Good food and service! Me and my bf went for dinner, good atmosphere, good service and food. The service was actually pretty fast, the food came in 5-10 min as soon as we order it. We had tuna ceviche (special of the night), he had the Veal Picatta and I had the Lamb Risotto (foto attached). We both loved our foods, we have to say that the Risotto was much better, it was incredible actually haha And we also had dessert, a NY cheesecake with blueberry! Which was a 9/10. I really recommend this restaurant. The Valet is free for dinner, is included in other words. We also had drinks: Stella beer and a White Italian wine. read more

To be fair I only experienced the takeout from this restaurant so I can't speak to the quality of the dine-in experience but I was a little disappointed with this place. I had penne vodka with chicken and my girlfriend had the gnocchi Alla norma. The flavor of mine was great but the texture of the pasta was a little mushy in my opinion. My girlfriend lives her gnocchi. The calamari on the other hand was not good at all. It was soggy and seemed over breaded. read more

I can't believe I've lived in Richmond for 10+ years and just discovered this place! It's perfect for date night and would make a great spot for any special occasion. The staff is attentive, friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. We started off with the eggplant appetizer with goat cheese and it was a burst of flavor. For dinner I had the swordfish special paired with a Sauvignon Blanc and my husband had the Pasta a la Vodka with meatballs. We decided to share the Limincelo cake for dessert and it was so good we almost got another piece! I would definitely go back again soon and highly recommend you give it a try! read more

One of the best meals we've had in Richmond in the last 5 years. Fried artichoke starter was the highlight of our meal, but both meal (tuna special and veal picatta) were close to a 10/10 as well. We've been to Portico before, and each time we've loved everything - the atmosphere, the food, the service. Tonight, my birthday, was not a good experience. I know we are in a space right now where things are different and everyone is trying their best. We've eaten out many times during the past several months, and we have friends in the industry - so have some idea of the struggles that many are experiencing as they try to navigate. But I do also expect a certain level of courtesy and respect when we plan to spend $150-200 on a dinner for two people. Short version: we've had the reservations for 2 weeks. My husband put in that it was my birthday, and that we wanted to be outside. Perfect. Arrived, told to wait while they checked us in. Great. Many minutes passed, we could tell they were trying to figure something out. She came out, mentioned someone was still at our table and so we would need to wait. Hopefully they'd be on their way, they could clean it, and it would only be a few minutes. I told her we would discuss, as we would have to wait out in the cold in the meantime. She seemed indifferent. About 5 min later, they came to take us to our table. Except it wasn't our original table under the tent, it was a table off to the side with a heater. Ok fine. Waitress was great, food good, drinks meh. Freezing. Started to rain. Couldn't find waitress. Found waitress, asked for check. Paid. But decided to talk to hostess about experience, unfortunately felt she blew us off. She noted we should have told her it was my birthday (it was in the reservation) and that we wanted to be under the tent. Manager? Came over, essentially said they were doing the best they can. Maybe next time would be better. Next time? I know people taking too long isn't your fault, but offer those waiting something as they wait. If you are taking us from a warm spot, offer us the choice. We could have waited for the warmth (it can make or break our experience). And finally, please don't say, maybe next time and leave me feeling like "oh well." It's my birthday, and so what happens to help salvage this time? read more

Portico: River Road's Overrated Gem. After six years in Richmond, I finally had a date night at Portico and the experience was stale to say the least. The staff were not as engaging or warm as you would imagine for that area. A variety of menu items were all looks, no taste. While there are certainly menu items that tasted good, that's where it ended. Thankful for an evening at a restaurant that was new for us, and disappointed that this River Road gem did not live up to its reputation. read more

This is a wonderful place. Whenever I come to Richmond, I love to come here. The food is wonderful. The staff is fantastic and friendly. The owner is also great. And the location is exquisite! So beautiful to be able to eat outside when the weather permits. And even if it is a bit cool, there are outdoor heaters to make things more comfortable. Coming to this wonderful place is like coming to a garden party. Just so pleasant. After having a brunch or lunch here, I love to have just a little ways down river road to the wonderful Tuckahoe plantation for a walk through the gardens. Just wonderful. read more

This is the best unknown but well known place in Richmond. It's right off River Road and Blair, and if you don't know where that is, it's because you need to get out of the city. At the risk of making this place even more popular I will give it 5 stars. The food is delicious and the atmosphere amazing. Pick a low humidity 70 degree day and dine on the patio or go when it's colder to enjoy the outdoor fireplace. The restaurant is very close to the West Oak subdivision so it does not stay open very late due to noise restrictions. Go early, valet park and have an amazing dinner. Off course lunch is pretty darn good too. read more

Amazing!!! From start to finish, our dinner was delicious. The apps were incredible- the best calamari I have ever had. We also tried the Portabello and the Grilled Artichokes and Crab, both were amazing. I had the Penne a la Vodka, again, the best I've ever had. My husband had the Seafood Crepes and they were phenomenal! For dessert we had the Sformato and the Gelati Celesti! The Sformato was incredible, similar to creme brûlée. The outside dining area is lovely. The service was second to none. The staff was knowledgeable, fun, attentive, efficient and very professional. Do not let the 3.5 stars deter you from going - you will not be disappointed. I can't even begin to understand the 3.5 rating, our experience was a 10 - we will be going back often!! I finally made it to Portico for bruch. This place is adorable. I loved that it's sort of tucked away on River Road in Tuckahoe. The interior is very clean and chic, but the patio area is amazing. Very exquisite restaurant. It gives a very relaxed but focused vibe. The vibe is focused on living in the moment that is now. The food is light, but filling. The chef has a very intricate technique in how he pairs foods. Out of the different delicacies I ordered, the charcuterie board was the best. Portico is pretty, and the food is good. But the management and wait staff lack a certain sophistication you would expect from a restaurant with food of such caliber. I made the mistake of attempting to schedule a special meal to celebrate a special day which included contacting the manager ahead of time with a couple questions and a couple small, basic requests. When I saw all my expectations falling quickly and began realizing my efforts were fruitless I mentioned my email from days before to the waiter who's reply was more or less "Well, he's been busy..." Fortunately another well-known restaurant, with the same small requests and same amount of notice was able to exceed all expectations later that evening as we celebrated our special day with an exceptional dinner experience. The manager replied with a lengthy email and the waiter simply nailed it. Portico has good food, but it's more of a place to take a coworker for lunch or an old college buddy to dinner. Portico quite possibly has the cutest outdoor patio I have ever seen at night. It's a small vineyard-like grotto with a roaring fireplace and tables strategically placed in a circular fashion- very Euro feel. We ordered the portabello prosciutto and cesar salad for starters. Excellent and refined. I noticed they had a really fun cocktail list, of particular mention were the spritzers- pick your liqueur, add prosecco. Cute idea. They make their own pasta so naturally I had to order the gnocchi which was perfection. Service was attentive but not annoying. Such a fine art. I loved the ambiance here more than anything, excellent people watching in a totally romantic setting. My new favorite place! read more

I've been here a handful of times for lunch, and I love the atmosphere, especially the outdoor seating. They do take reservations, so that's a plus. The service has always been friendly and timely. I recently had the pizza Margherita, which was slightly different than most places, but it was very yummy and cheesy! I also loved their garlic baguette appetizer. Definitely order a couple of these for a table of 4. I always order a salad before my meal, and they are a good portion size and they have a good variety. Also great here is their desserts. The chocolate tartufo is so delish! Everyone with me always raves about their dessert selections. The only thing I can't really comment on is pricing because I never paid the bill, but I believe the prices were in line with other Italian restaurants. Everything about this place was a lovely experience!! From the hostess who so so kind and with the utmost pleasant attitude explained all the covid rules to our server Jamie whom was always attentive and helpful with recommendation. The atmosphere is the best part about this place, we made a 4:30 reservation for my sisters birthday under the tent next to the outdoor fire place. The infrared heaters kept us toasty warm was never cold! The food was delicious ! We had the meatballs and fried artichoke apps, definitely recommend the artichoke. Our table enjoyed the lamb over risotto (delicious and tender braised lamb), ravioli special, tenderloin special (cooked perfectly to requested order- very juicy and tender), and I had the grilled shrimp in lobster cream sauce (it was everything you wish for in a grilled shrimp - I only wish there were more!) we enjoyed several cocktails and a delicious bottle of wine. We have been in the area for almost 10 years and hadn't been here before yesterday. We will be back! Excellent meal, waitstaff and management. We sat outside which was quite comfortable as the fireplace was roaring. We shared an asparagus appetizer ,salads, rosemary chicken and lasagna. It was all very tasty and portions were ample. A small menu is a sign of good quality this held true here. They even have valet parking. We have family coming to VA at the end of the month we will visit this gem with them. read more

The food was good. The waitress was disgustingly rude, to the point where I wanted to walk out.

Went there to celebrate my son's engagement. There is a great atmosphere outside. We ordered drinks which took awhile to arrive. We got salads which were fair. Had a Caesar salad that had unripe tomatoes on it. I don't think I have ever had Caesar salad with tomatoes. Two of the four in our group had dinners that were okay. They other two were BAD and were not eaten. We told the waitress they weren't good when she asked. She said nothing and and walked away. Then here comes two men to see what the problem was. Why send two people? Are they getting so many negative comments that one person can't approach a table? All they said was not everyone likes everything and left. Why did they bother to come and ask? This was such an expensive and disappointing dinner. I would suggest you avoid this place. Such a disappointment. read more

Ordered shrimp scampi and seafood crepes - tasty! Nice ambience! We self parked with no issues (probably problematic with more patrons). We ordered a good bottle of Sauvignon blanc too. First off I will say the food at Portico is absolutely delicious! The two stars on this review pertain to the staff at Portico, more specially one wait staff member and the manger on duty. We were a table of four with a waiter who had an attitude problem from the time we were seated. I will identify him as "man bun" (hopefully there isn't another waiter in his late thirties/early forties with a man bun). We all have experiences where the wait staff does the disappearing act but this waiter must have invented the concept. We waited over 45 minutes for our appetizers which we are certain he forgot to put in to the kitchen (tables all around us who were seated far after we were and had there's within 15-20 minutes). The biggest offense of the meal however was the main course... One of the guests at our table had told the waiter he wanted the chicken then promptly changed his mind and switched his order to a shrimp dish. The waiter acknowledged the change and went on his way. The entire table also commented and acknowledged the change as that was a dish some of us were considering as well. After waiting beyond the acceptable or reasonable time for our entrees they came out with a chicken dish for our friend who ordered the shrimp... What happened after this event though is was stood out in my mind. Not only did the waiter decline to apologize for his mistake he blatantly lied and said our friend never ordered the shrimp and went as far as saying he must be mistaking. The attitude and tone he was using while calling our friend a liar was also off putting to say the least... The manager was then called over to the table for another below average customer service experience. The manger asked our friend if he ordered the chicken (which of course he already knew he had not) then went on to ask if our friend still wanted the shrimp which he ordered (no apology from the manger). The three remaining at the table began to eat our meals and 20 minutes later the shrimp entree is brought out by the manger who essentially threw it on the table and said "enjoy". Of course all of us were finished eating our entrees as our friends was brought out. Again, no apology, no accepting of ownership for this mistake. For such an upstanding establishment who won't even let you park your own car (valet parking only) it surely leaves me puzzled how they stay in business treating customers in this way... What's even a bigger shame is the individual who was treated in this way lives in the neighborhood and spends a good deal of money at this restaurant on a regular basis... If rude is the new polite Portico was the front runner for this dinner. read more

Worst service ever. We started off with drinks, the girl didn't card as at all (we are 23&21) but if we were minors it'd be a problem. Service had an attitude from the start. We ordered food and it was okay at best. Other servers kept running her food, coming asking if we were okay and what not. Which is fine but not when you come back with an attitude still. The check came and she decided to be nice. It was $175 for 4 of us (2 children) and I gave her a cash tip. This old man came after us asking if we made a mistake on the bill, I would've said yes but he was hostile and told me "get the f out of here" when I decided to say yes. And then proceeded to yell at me and say "you should have f###### stayed home!" And I yelled backing saying "who follows someone out because of the bill!" But I guess that shows the type of establishment this is. If (assuming) that's the manager, the service is going to be bad too. What a shame, we were excited to celebrate a birthday here and it got turned upside down bc an old man decided to yell at us. read more

Who takes a 2:30 reservation and then tells the party that they cannot serve them food 5 minutes before the reservation time? Absolutely appalled at the service. They ended up turning our birthday lunch away even though she had this reservation for about a month. Birthday girl left in tears while other people were ordering food around her in the restaurant. Shame on the staff and owners for allowing the reservation to take place, and then to act so rudely towards the would be paying customers. The call to her should have been made immediately after the reservation and since this was the restaurants fault they should have corrected the issue and instead brought a customer to tears. read more
