Portillo's is always a Chicago staple, so I can always appreciate getting a nice Chicago Style hot dog to hit the spot here! I'm also a huge fan of their chopped salad since it's packed with lettuce, onions, blue cheese, bacon, and chicken. I also got to try their chicken tenders and onion rings recently, and I was a huge fan of their new giardinera sauce. It's tangy and flavorful, but I just wish it had more of a kick to it! The service is always amazing when I come to this location. They're quick and always get my order right. I met the marketing manager here once, and he was extremely friendly and welcoming. The ambiance is like most portillo's with a drive through and a ton of parking. It is on a busy corner, so it does get packed at times. This location is large, modern, and well lit. There are examples of the eclectic decor like some of the older locations that had more of that authentic personality. The taste and quality was pretty much the same as the other two locations I've been to (Taylor St, Chicago and Schaumburg). To order, there are a few kiosks near the entrance. HOT TIP, there is a Take Out window at the end of the main dining area which may be a good option. I'm not sure if our order was called out in a rhyming style (like the other 2 locations). It only came with beef- the peppers are extra. The beef was flavorful and bun was soft but did not justify an $11 price tag for a fast food sandwich. Man oh man!! Portillo's is TOOOOOO GOOD. I wanted to go to Mr. Beef BUT didnt have the time so my colleague said you have to have Portillo's. Of Course I'm a skeptic so I am like it can't be that good. Welllll... Portillo's is TOO good. I kept hearing about the Italian beef and mannnnnn does that meat taste delicious. It is so tender. I had the sweet and spicy. What a great combo? And it really is NOT that spicy but it is good. That sweetnesss. The team was kind and kept the line moving. Not sure why this location is getting the reviews that it's getting but every time I come I don't have issues with the food or service. I always order a whole chocolate cake here for pick up whenever we have some type of get together and it's always on point. The cake is ready when it's scheduled to be ready and it always tastes delicious. The restaurant itself is huge and there is always plenty of parking. It's a nice laid back atmosphere if you are looking to dine in, with plenty of space and tables to choose from. They have both booths and tables available. If you have never been to a Portillos, you order you food in the service line and they give you a number. Whenever your food is ready, they call your number and you grab your food from the counter and choose wherever you want to sit. They have the best cake, the chocolate is to die for and I also look forward to their lemon cake during the summer seasons. Don't leave without getting cake! read more

Should be a 3.5. After reading the reviews, I understand what people are saying about your order being wrong. Check before you drive/walk away! You order on a kiosk and wait for your food to come out. We received a chicken sandwich instead of a burger. They were good about it when I went up to tell them, they made the burger right away. I really love the cheeseburger from Portillo's, and this time I got the one with onion rings and BBQ sauce on it. Next time I will just get the cheeseburger. I went here last night thru drive in. I ordered a meal, and two strawberry short cakes. I got home and the cakes were so dried out, you couldn't even eat them. I called tonight, spoke to the guy who picked up the phone, no apology, Just said they were probably prepared in the morning. What do you want me to do? No compensation at all. After I called back a second time; I threatened to dispute it with my bank, and he finally gave in, and sent me a coupon. He wanted a receipt. I have a bank statement. This is the 4th bad experience I've had at this location. I've given them multiple chances because everyone is human but I've had enough. I am a Chicagoan that has been eating at Portillo's for over 20 years. This is the only location I've ever had a problem with. Tonight I ordered a beef, extra dipped with peppers. I got a dry "gravy bread without the gravy or peppers." Gravy bread is basically a bread dipped with a very small amount of beef for about $3. That's not what I paid for. First time in Chicago so I had to grab Portillos. Chicago dog was good, nothing insane but it was yummy. I liked the hot pepper inside. Fries were crinkle cut and fine. We ordered a side of cheese sauce that enhanced everything, HIGHLY recommend. Finally the Italian beef sandwich (ordered with mozzarella cheese, and sweet and hot peppers). Freaking delicious. I'd recommend subbing the mozzarella for the melted cheese, it's basically nacho cheese but I think that'd make everything better. Me and wife stopped by to have a Chicago dog and Italian steak sandwich. I got the classic Chicago dog without relish or peppers and wife got the chili cheese dog. It came with fries and soda. We also ordered an Italian beef to share. I have to admit the Chicago day was delicious. I didn't think all those ingredients would work but they do. Would definitely order another one. I'm not sure why I thought that if I ordered carry out I could pick it up through the drive-through. I think I probably am the only one who had this thought, but in case there are others, that's not how it works; you have to go inside to pick up. Like really almost every other place. However, what's significantly different from other places is that they have the food out on shelves but there's someone there to see your ID to make sure you're claiming your order. I haven't experienced that at Chipotle or whatever. Since I'm updating this review anyway, let me mention that the salted caramel shake (a special in September/October) is amazing and you should get one. There's never any complaints about the food. They have the best hotdogs, hamburgers, beef, and in case you didn't know they have Ribs. And they're fantastic too. The only thing is you can't order them in the drive through. Either order them on line or go in. It's worth the wait. Whenever I use the drive through even if it's crowded it moves fast. The workers are friendly and pleasant to talk to. If you use the dining area they have workers keeping the tables clean. Very nice ambiance. Love all the the pictures and stuff on the walls. We got a regular Chicago dog ($4.29) - good, loaded with toppings, a nice 'snap' to the Frank itself. Solid. We got an Italian beef sandwich slightly wet. ($8.94 with extra sweet peppers). Great bread. Did not skimp on the beef or peppers. Small onion rings ($4.39), nice crunch. A chargrilled Maxwell Strret Polish sausage ($6.59) - again, not chintzy in the sausage size. Lots of carmelized onions. Wife was a fan of the chocolate cake slice ($4.19). Moist. Is this Morton's-level dining? Well it was a quick stop on the way to the train station after a nice boat tour. Ordering was quick and easy, the food didn't take long, I guess the classic Chicago dog tasted as expected at least it was hot and the meat was cooked well, slightly charred of which I like. The service lacked enthusiasm, but it was also the end of the day and I'm sure they were closing soon and all ready to go home. I can honestly say that I was totally underwhelmed by it. They sprinkled shredded cheddar cheese, thin flimsy bacon pieces on top, & added tomato, lettuce & Mayo. The inside is your usual Portillo's set up with ample seating, a like to put your orders in, and a small waiting 'area'. There is also an online order area where you can grab-and-go. I was immediately welcomed with hospitality as soon as I walked into this location. The managers could tell I was not from this area and took their time to go over popular picks from the menu. I settled on some classic hot dogs and the beef sandwich with dip on the side. We also ordered the French fries. This was a classic Chicago favorite and I was glad to experience it. They were generous with their portions. The beef was so juicy. The hot dog seemed like any other hot dog but was still tasty. The fries were perfectly done, not greasy and still crispy.
