The food was amazing! I got the limited time Street Corn Chicken Sandwich and Chicken Pot Pie and it was a really good sandwich. I liked it so much that I got the sandwich a few more times while I was in Chicago. It was only available for a limited time but if they ever bring it back, which they should, you should definitely give it a try. I read that this specific potbelly was their first location which was cool and based on the interior you can tell. It's nice and cozy and kind of reminds me of the hobbit. The original store. Hadn't been here in years. In a neighborhood where everything is way overpriced Potbelly still has the best reasonably priced sandwiches in town. Fresh crisp and filling this Potbelly can't be beat really. And they still have Zapp chips. The staff here on Lincoln Ave. is about as friendly as you're going to get anywhere in city. There were more "hello's" and "thank you" and "goodbye's" than most places you will go. I got charged for a large sandwich when i didn't order a large and i felt like an inconvenience when i asked them to change it. I also ordered a mac and cheese on the side and they barely filled the container up. The inside was clean and the vibe was good along with one of the workers who was extremely nice. Super cute & aesthetically pleasing was my first thought when hobbling in to this Potbelly Sandwich Shop. *I was on crutches. It was a little difficult to navigate in this store on crutches but great sandwiches. Fast service. Them manager was sitting down doing paperwork & the schedule. He saw I was struggling & offered help but never got up. A bag with a handle .... I had to pay .25 cents more! Okay. But do you think you could have gotten up to open the door for me? SHUT THEM DOWN! I'm apart of a church group & lived in the neighborhood a couple years now. I love Belly's in general, but gosh darn it I cannot go quiet anymore. I'm fully convinced this is thee WORST run restaurant in North America. do NOT, I repeat do NOT order for delivery here. It is a GUARANTEE it will be late & it will be wrong. Hard working delivery drivers have to wait in a line out the door. Poor pedestrians have to wait in line for 35+ mins. By the time you even sit down it's soggy or incorrect. I understand the employees aren't making much, but they STINK, and it's managements fault. They listen to music/ FaceTime blaring from there phone, picking their ass in the corner of the store, and I think some might be on marijuana. Ownership & management might need to be incarcerated. I pray often for this store - I hope my message helps patrons avoid at all cost, as well as light a fire under potbelly's behind. Drastic changes must be made. We came here for a friend because the original Potbelly's has been on his bucket list for years. He had his 1st Potbelly's sandwish when he lived in Texas. We got here after lunch hours so there were not many customers. Their menu features a variety of sandwiches that are all served hot. My boyfriend and I got a wreck flat, a roast beef flat and a coffee shake. Our friends both got the regular thin cut sandwiches. The flats were good but not impressive. This is my favorite potbelly location so I was taken by surprise when my chicken sandwich didn't have chicken on it TWICE, once when I ordered and again when my husband went to pick up the corrected sandwich. I laughed the first time because I thought it was funny to forget Chicken on a Chicken sandwich and Patrick was very apologetic. However, I am less than two weeks postpartum so needless to say, I lost my shit the second time and my husband had to take over. Long story short, this review is for Patrick who went above and beyond to rectify the situation. There was issues with doordash that day too, and he tried his damndest to correct everything. Although we weren't able to get everything corrected and delivered that night, Patrick made sure to take care of us when we returned. He could have easily given the issue to someone higher up or blamed doordash or whatever but he really did go above and beyond. Because this is still my favorite potbelly location, I will give it more chances but I will be checking my sandwiches before I leave to make sure my chicken sandwich has chicken. read more

I come here fairly often as it is close to my location and normally I tip. Today I ordered with a young man who guided me to payment before adding toppings to my sandwich which was weird, i payed and for was the first time I didn't tip. We proceeded with topings and I asked for peppers "xtra peppers" to be exact because I normally like a lot. I literally decided to instead dine in for the very first time ever instead of heading out and sure enough I open my sandwich and was give 2 small pepper pieces. It was around 12:30 Pm when i came in and ordered a few hoagies and a salad. The line was wrapped around the small counter and no organization. That's the only bad thing to say. I think I loved Potbelly more when it was one little store on Lincoln that I had to trek to.... but somehow they managed to expand without annoying me. They provide really great service (it was the only place I trusted to have a sandwich ready for me during the bar exam) and the sandwiches are solid. I even got a free Potbelly on Christmas Eve last year. I was delayed getting into O'Hare and knew my carnivore family would have nothing left for me (a veggie). When I discovered a Potbelly on the way home to the farms (in Lombard I think), I stopped to get my own Christmas dinner. They were closing and had already shut down the register... so they just made me a free sandwich. It was one of the best Potbelly's I've ever had. I had the 'A Wreak' with everything except mayo &peppers on the side. For $4.50 (regular size), it was the perfect amount of food for dinner, and pretty cheap! I snuck it into one of the bars across the street and the added peppers paired perfectly with a beer I was drinking. The original Potbelly store, started as an antique shop then sandwiches were added to bolster sales. Ownership changed in the 90's and the sandwiches took off. New menu items have been added but the original sandwich is still the best. My advice to you at Potbelly, do not be afraid of the toppings. Select your sandwich and bread, wait for it to be toasted then you order toppings. As a general rule, I tell people to only omit the things that they absolutely cannot stand and get the rest. Its that gooey, melting, spicy combination that really sets the sandwich apart. Oh and get a cookie too, especially the oatmeal chocolate chip. Really you can't go wrong when you order here, you made it in the door already - smooth sailing from there. I grew up with Potbelly's. In middle school, my friends Sophie and Cate and I would walk from Parker to the original Lincoln Ave location for lunch. Our weekly (or bi or tri weekly) excursion was always a special occasion. Cate, who was a professed vegetarian, always got the Italian sub - with about 4 or 5 different kinds of meat - because, according to her, she was a "vegetarian except at Potbelly's." Sophie and I consistently questioned this, because Cate would also eat meat at Max's Deli, another one of our haunts across the street from school. While I'm sad Max's is no longer around (for nostalgic reasons only), I am VERY glad that Potbelly's has maintained it's consistent high quality over the years, even with it's expansive franchising. My favorite has always been the turkey sub. Except now I get wheat instead of white (they didn't have a wheat option back in the day) with 1/3 less carbs, when they basically scoop out part of the bread. It tastes the same. Amazing bread, perfectly toasted. Where do you think Quizno's got the idea? (And why would anyone ever go to Quizno's when Potbelly's is around?) Potbelly's should trademark that toasted shit. And try their milk/frozen yogurt shakes. Chocolate is my favorite. (Chocolate is ALWAYS my favorite). I also love those mini butter cookies they give you on your straw. What a charming touch. I didn't know the story of PSW until I sat down with my friend and while eating our sandwiches, she filled me in on how it started off as an antique store, thus explaining the decoration of the place. If you're a carnivore, get the Wreck - salami, roast Beef, turkey, ham & swiss cheese. Damn good. I get extra hot peppers because they are the best. The "big" sandwiches are only $5.40 and way more satisfying than, for instance, Subway's $5 footlongs. The general atmosphere of the Lincoln Ave location does not really differ from the cookie-cutter kitchyness Potbelly has reproduced across the country (the "chalk" menu, wooden booths, stupid "hand painted" signs with stupid slogans like "Eat Here Before We Both Starve!"), but the staff is always warm and sincere and they make some fast sandwiches. Also, this location carries Zapp's potato chips! I fell in lust with Zapp's after watching "How it's Made" and Mr. Zapp explained that chip eaters should open the bag upside down to distribute the delicious flavor that hangs out on the bottom. Genius. The BBQ is so good, these are seriously some of the best kettle chips around. This was always a dilemma when I went back home and then visiting Lincoln Park :) Would I want a series of incredible flavors in my mouth with fine wine or a few bites packed with incredible flavors followed by one of the best malts sliding down my throat? I remember over 20 years ago and for years it was just one shop and then it expanded to two shops in the city. I would have to haul my ass from Northbrook to eat the BEST DAMN SUB in the world. And of course you couldn't get just one.... I had to order three. Two to eat and the third to take home. If you've never been here, you have to get every sandwich toasted and with their pepper sauce.... hot peppers blended so perfectly for their subs. I remember taking so many of my friends visiting Chicago to Potbelly in the mid-90s, and they would talk about it for weeks after their visit. Potbellys is addictive. Drugged. Your mouth become dry just thinking about it and you want a fix. Drugged. Just like Buffalo Joe's wings in Evanston. Actually, all Chicago food is drugged :) Anyway, Maveron Capital (Howard Schultz's investment group) investment into Potbelly was an excellent move for them (don't you smell a great IPO?) and for everyone. Not sure what it is about their sandwich craft, but damn, they have it down and have been doing it for some time (since 1977). Toasted buns, perfect blend of meat, spices, melted cheese, ooh, ahhh. I was first introduced to this fine LP eatery when I was just a spring chicken right out of undergrad at my 1st job in the city. Their sandwiches were THE Sunday morning antidote to a Saturday night of imbibing along Lincoln Ave. Oh, the sweet memories... And to ... today .... every time I am back in Chi-town visiting, I make it my own personal sojourn to hit one of the Potbelly locations that have expanded through out the Chicago metroplex. It is a religious experience for me. I go with my tried and true chicken salad, a bag of chips, and top off the order with one of their handmade old school chocolate shakes.
