It's portillos. It's delicious. We like this location but have been to so many different locations. Food is hot, not a long wait, we love the inside theme and decor. Workers are friendly. Prices are higher but all fast food is unfortunately. We cut out a lot of fast food and junk food so this is our treat and I'm happy to get it once in a while. The hot dogs are the best but these days are on the drier side sometimes on the outside but the insides are still juicy. Can't go wrong with a cheese dog or Chicago style. My go to used to be ketchup and onion Bf always get a chili cheese dog and likes it. The beef is delicious. Charbroiled burgers are exactly what you want if you crave a burger. Not thick patty, that grill taste, the BEST buns with fresh crispy lettuce and mayo. Grilled chicken sandwich was always my go to but it was a hit or miss eventually after some chewier fat pieces. I'm not a thick / cake chunks shake person and only tried the chocolate shake once I think but people rave about them. Onion rings and fries are the bomb. read more

My 11 year old son was eating a beef sandwich last night when he jabbed his tongue and spit out a staple. My family and I love the food here but safety comes first. my son was really shaken up by this. This should have never happened and could have ended up really bad. Thank God it didn't. I'm not sure that we feel safe to ever eat here again as I have an even younger daughter that eats the beef sandwiches as well. Me and my wife recently stopped here to see what this place offered. I'm always a big fan of going to a Portillo's and this was one of the old style locations just by looking at the outside. This place was really busy with the drive-thru as well as the dining area as well as the dining area. Expect this place to be very loud. Wait times were not too bad at all, it was a little pricey. Staff here was pretty moderate but the dining tables were Pretty disgusting and unclean. Overall, my experience here was pretty average to say the least. Went to the New Lenox location for a quick carry out lunch. It was a choice of this or Culver's so we picked here. BIG mistake HUGE mistake. Ordered two beefs and large fry. Drive thru line wasn't busy and we live three minutes away. The beefs were lukewarm and tough as if the beef was sitting in gravy since last night. They also had no flavor at all; I mean none. The fries were soggy and cold even the few I snatched driving home. I guess that was a sign of things to come. Other locations have been fine but this one not at all. It will be a long time before I think about returning to this location as this seems to be a trend there lately. We use to go on a regular basis and have seen signs of it going downhill. Been coming here for years. Yes, the prices have gone up like everywhere else with labor and food costs. Yes, new owners in 2014, IPO and have gone national. But the basics haven't changed. Ordered the beef & sausage combo. Beef was kind of bland. Sausage which has gotten smaller in size in the past few years has been way overcooked the last 2 times I ordered this. It's grilled almost to being charred. French fries were good. Hot and crispy. Prices are up everywhere and I never complained because food quality was superior at Portillo's but lately it's not worth the higher prices. We were looking forward to their legendary wonderful chopped salad, but were very disappointed. I ordered a chopped salad with chicken on it, cheddar cheese instead of Gorgonzola (I'm allergic to Gorgonzola), and Ranch dressing instead of house dressing. I first opened the dressing and poured it on my salad, not reading the label. It was the house dressing). I noticed there was no cheddar cheese. I assumed they simply misunderstood and just omitted cheese. I had a bite of salad in my mouth, and realized it had Gorgonzola cheese. They had almost not added the chicken to my salad. There was a long line, so I did not go up to have them re-make it I just ate my piece of bread and drank my Diet Coke. The entire salad went in the trash. I placed an order on line. The order was to be delayed. Once I received the email confirmation it advised to pick up sooner. I called right away. The rep who answered sounded as if she was a teenager who didn't care about the issue told me the cooks had already started cooking the order. (I just ordered). she gave me options. She advised the food can be made as the time said in the email or she can tell the cooks to hold off but it may delay my food being made. I chose the delayed food because I would not be able to be there as the email said. (I preferred to have my food hot as opposed to having cold soggy food. Further the option I chose she made sound as if it was going to be more of an inconvenience to me because I may have to wait a little. I told her that's fine please ask the cooks to hold off on my order. When I arrived there were not many people inside and the order was ready and sitting in an oven. The pops were sitting out. I received my food went to my car and attempted to try the fries. They tased like soggy left over microwaved fries. The ice, if ice was put in the pop, was all melted. The buns to the burgers, on the bottoms were complete mush. I asked for my food to be cooked fresh, was told it would be, and lied to. I agree with several customers that prices are up and quality is down, I have been a customer since this place was opened, our main orders are usually their hamburger sandwich, beef, sandwich, and the chopped salad, for the chopped salad now you can hunt for a piece of chicken and good luck If you find one, I don't mind that the price is almost doubled since we started to eat there and I understand inflation but to pay $13 for half head of lettuce is not worth it, I have to admit that the manager was nice and she gave me extra chicken when I complained this time, however, she told me that it is measured by scope and supposed to be 2 ounces, most of the time it is not that much. This is not my first time at Portillos but first time revising this location. This is a fairly new location and very large inside with tables and booths. The inside is very clean and well kept. The cheese fries are some of the best I have ever had; They are crinkle cut fries. Tonight I had the beef sandwich dipped but did not like the way the bread tasted - almost takes stale so I ate the beef with a fork. The chocolate cake shake is always my favorite! I have had the Maxwell street polish hot dog here before and that is really my favorite and I will get that again next time. read more

I waited 10 minutes for my food inside while I watched (and counted) 13 people in the back scrambling so slowly to fill the orders. There is even one person to make fries, one to do drinks and this is just for inside orders. They have a separate area to fill drive through orders. I work nearby and the drive through line is even slower. You better have time because there is no way this is FAST food. On the contrary. They could learn a few things from McDonalds and efficiency. They then began combining orders in the same bags and on top of that they had half of the orders wrong. My girlfriend and myself's food was very cold and when I insisted on new hot food she aggressively grabbed the food and threw it to the back if the kitchen. She touched my fries which was nasty. Then gave me new fries and aggressively put the bag in front of me. The overall cleanliness of this establishment was nasty, disturbing, and disgusting. Beef sandwiches are good like most Portillo's, but I stopped in for a combo with hot peppers and a beef tamale. They weren't very crowded. Kind of slow at the drive-thru. People outside and at the window seem to not know what they're doing. When I got my food and drove away and started eating my combo I realized they didn't even give me any napkins, which, as you know is quite necessary with a beef sausage combo and to top it off no spoon for my beef tamale. read more

In a word: overwhelming. This place is so big, so busy, and so loud that it's absolutely exhausting to sit and have a meal, especially if you want to interact with the people you're with. Otherwise, it's fast and easy and the food was tasty. I had a combo meat sandwich with Italian sausage and beef, and an order of fries. Both were tasty. I regret ordering the sandwich dry, because it was indeed dry. And I feel like I could have had a much better sandwich with some more interaction from the cashier. It being my first trip to Portillo's, I didn't know I could top my sandwich with cheese or peppers or other deliciousness, which would have been nice to know. Could use some improvement, but tasty enough for another go someday. read more
