The food was good and this is coming from someone who lived in Chicago most of her life. While it comes close, it's not the same. There are difference in sandwiches and the small things that Katy staff misses, that Chicago wouldn't. IE: no veggies or jour dip in the beef sandwich. Hot dog is ok and the hamburger is good. It was our first time at a Portillo's. We were excited to try it because we heard good things about it and were happy to see that it made its way to Katy. We really enjoyed our experience here. I love the vibe and theme of the place. It's super fun and cool. It's a big space so there's lots of seating. They also have a drive thru. The ordering system is nice because they have several kiosks available at the front but you can also order directly at the counter. We decided to order at the kiosk because it was a lot quicker and there wasn't a line for the kiosk. It was really busy when we came and it took some time to get our order but wasn't too long of a wait especially considering how packed it was when we came. The food was great. The closest you're going to get to a Chicago dog in Texas! The onion rings are fantastic. The spicy chicken sandwich was good - similar to chick fl a but the sauce and breading is a bit spicier, but good. Drive through was huge and quick. Only thing I didn't like was that they put a sticker on the mirror of our car of our order number for the food runner. After we got our food they did not remove the number. We'll definitely be back! Note: I'm a fan of Portillo's. I even own stock in the company. So this is typically a very biased review on their locations unless they are doing something completely wrong. The parking lot is large and when I came here on a Wednesday afternoon, it was pretty open. The outdoor patio looked inviting although it was kind of windy today in Houston the exterior was clean When you walk in, they have some of that old 1950s 1960s music playing give it a nice nostalgia great atmosphere very inviting you have three or four kiosk ready to take your order free go straight to the line. I prefer to do it via kiosk that way, I can take a little bit more time to order. The food came out quickly, hot very delicious today. I only ordered the Italian sausage with hot peppers. The bathrooms were clean. Paper towels were low low, but they did have two Dyson hand dryers there as well. I would recommend this place and look forward to coming back again. Note my rating system: 1 Star: I wouldn't recommend 2 Stars: Didn't hit my standards 3 Stars: Average (nothing special) 4 Stars: Above Average. Would recommend. The Italian Beef sandwich is delicious! Get it dry with the au jus on the side, if you're ordering take-out! The hot dogs are where it's at. They have an epic snap to the wiener when you bite into them. Skip the $4.99 chili dog and get the $3.87 Chicago dog. Customer service is fairly quick. The crinkle cut fries are okay. As one who lived in Chicago for 20 years, when I get a chance to get Portillo's, I take advantage of it. Now I had never seen one with kiosks before, but I used it. I got my big beef sandwich with sweet peepers, hot peppers, and cheddar cheese. So so good. I even added a Chicago hot dog for dessert. No fries? I'm split so like a 3.5 for me. I absolutely love the vibes here. Huge parking lot with great atmosphere. Lots of choices of seating and nice decor and customer service was super friendly. Ordering food was fast and super easy. The reason it's sort of on the mid for me was the food. Chicken sandwich was good with bun, sauce, lettuce, etc but the chicken itself was dry. And I wasn't a huge fan of the cheese that was offered even though you can get a jumbo size of it. Came here on a Saturday night: a few things I loved about this place is that the parking was ample, and the restaurant itself is huge and spacious!! Like it was busy, but I did not feel the least bit claustrophobic in there. I also like the fact there were touch screen tablets to order from, so we could take our time perusing the menu. The inside felt very new and had a great lively texas ambiance as well. Seating was also plentiful. It was definitely hard to hear the person over the speaker to hear when your order was ready. There is a screen, but it's stationed to one side and the font is very tiny that I felt like I had to get really close to see anything, and I have 20/15 vision. Let's talk food: I ordered italian beef with hot peppers meal, dip on the side with a Chicago hot dog. For almost $15 for the meal, I did feel it was a bit overpriced. Everyone gets their food wrapped to go, which I feel smushes everything together, and is frankly a bit of a waste of paper if you are planning to eat in. The Italian beef while tasty was a bit on the smaller size, and there could have been more hot peppers that I paid an extra 75c for. Fries were just okay, I honestly didn't feel like they had any seasoning on them, just tasted fried, but were plentiful. Chicago hot dog was solid, and beautiful presented. I grew up in Chicago and always have a taste for the junk food of my youth. I was excited when Portillo started opening in Houston serving just that. I went to the Katy location which is much larger with exceptional seating than any hotdog stand that I know. I ordered an Italian beef sandwich thinking that I'd come back for hotdogs later. The sandwich was good, but much saltier than I was expecting. I generally stay low sodium, so others who have a normal diet may not think this is the case. I had the combination meal with fries and a drink. The fries were salty too. There is also a drive through. I'll come back for a hot dog sometime. The days of having a polish sausage with grilled onions are past. So, much nicer than my memories of Chicago hot dog stands. Give it a try. read more

First thing: this location says it's temporarily closed until 1/16. Not true. You can go visit riiiiight now. A few years ago, my husband imported me to Houston and introduced me to another hot dog chain (that has since closed) that made some wonderful chili cheese dogs/fries/etc. They did, however, multiple times, put CINNAMON on their Chicago dogs. On purpose. Like it was necessary. I've been scarred for YEARS since this experience, but then, like I said, that chain closed so it was no longer an issue. The new issue for the last 5 years is that we've been living in a chili cheese dog desert. Enter Portillo's. The story behind this chain, as told by the plaque affixed to the Katy mural inside, is pretty adorable. Have a look when you drop in; it'll warm your heart. While hot dogs seem to be their specialty, Portillo's has a cornucopia of other offerings, including a chocolate cake milkshake they claim contains an entire slice of their chocolate cake. On the note of chocolate cake, apparently you get a slice on your birthday fo' free. Allergies aside, who wouldn't love that?! Anyway we were there for serious business: the hot dogs. The drive in looks like it's a pretty efficient setup, but we opted to go inside. Being a brand new location, they're clearly still getting their bearings so some things like the self-serve ordering stations aren't functioning yet. The service was still plenty friendly and efficient. We got some Chicago dogs (NO CINNAMON, HALLELUJAH) and a couple other hot dogs and chili cheese fries (they give you the chili and cheese on the side for you to assemble yourself when you order to go). First of all, the hot dogs were delish. My niece doesn't like when the casing of a hot dog gives that extra snap (I know, we're working on it), so be aware that's a thing. The fries are thin crinkle. I'm a fan. They're not too much potato. The cheese sauce. THE. CHEESE. SAUCE. I don't know how so many other places get this wrong, but Portillo's gets it right. The chili was also MUCH more interesting than most places offer. All together, it was a delightful experience. The burger meal was just not right, ordered it all the way with mustard and all we received was a meat patty with mustard and buns. Boy I was excited to go there for the first time ever. However I was not sold and like I told my wife I have been here and done this. The hot dogs did taste great and had good flavor. The French Fries were cold May have been sitting there a while. Oh I order the side of chees but I got about the same amount as the dish the ketchup is put in.
