My favorite was hands down the giardiniera sauce, it had a little kick to it, but in a very good way! The other sauces were your standard dipping sauces, which is fine, don't get me wrong. The giardiniera sauce was just top of the list for sure. Also, now that it's coming to be spring/summer....their lemon cake shakes are back! I HAD to get the strawberry lemon cake shake, it's so good, but oh so bad LOL! All in all, the food was hot, and the service was great! Why did I wait so long before heading back to Portillo's. Huge parking lot with plenty of spaces. Inside is lively with the decor and energy. Staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. Order: Italian Beef with hot peppers and grilled onions with cheese sauce ... dry. The pro move is to order broth to dip on the side. If you dip the sandwich it was to be eaten in the restaurant immediately or else the bun just disintegrates and you are eating it with a knife and fork. The beef was flavorful. The cheese sauce is like a warm hug. The grilled onions add a little crunch and texture. The hot peppers add that kick that wakes up your taste buds with each bite. Portillo's has quickly become one of my favorite fast food now that there are locations in MN now. I really like the onion rings here. The chicken burger is seasoned well but it could be more crispy. I also like the cheese burger here and my husband likes how there is a fish sandwich for him (he doesn't eat red meat). I haven't tried their shakes yet but I heard good things. The chocolate cake is a little too eggy for me but it is very chocolatey which is nice for me as a chocolate lover. We usually do drive thru or delivery and had no issues. read more

I generally like Portillo's. I'd usually get chicken tenders or the spicy chicken sandwich and fries. Last time I went I got the spicy chicken salad and it was really good so I decided to get that again this time & a side of fries. My mom ordered the spicy chicken sandwich meal (w/ onion rings). We ordered on the kiosk which was very convenient and easy to use. The food wasn't as good as I remembered it being and I think it's slightly due to they had me waiting for about 10 min for hot bread (that comes with the salad) while the rest of the food was getting cold on the counter (besides the salad). By time I got to the table the fries and onion rings were not hot at all. My mom said her sandwich was lukewarm which she didn't really care for. Also the chicken on my salad which is basically the chicken patty cut up was not spicy at all, neither was the sandwich. I don't know if it's been toned down but it used to have a nice kick. We visited Portillo's for the first time just due to all the hype my friends share. My husband had a chili dog and a beer. I had onion rings and a IPA. Yuck. Hubby thought the hot dog was a bit messy and the casing had a crunch when he bit into it. My onion rings were good. I will never have another IPA again. But that's not a reflection of the restaurant. We just wanted to try it. The inside was definitely decorated and seemed family friendly since there weren't any TVs. I loved this part. I've been to this Portillo's a few times. I always love the chocolate cake, and I usually get a burger with the fries. They can be a little pricey, but overall, the food is really tasty. I love the authentic style of the building outside and inside, with all the fun signs and pictures. I tried a hot dog the other day and was also thoroughly impressed. Drive-thru service is pretty quick, which is always appreciated. Definitely recommend coming here for a burger or hot dog, and definitely get dessert! read more

If you have not eaten here before, their Italian gravy is more like an au jus... I was expecting something thicker - it wasn't but I still liked the food. The chocolate cake milkshakes are DELICIOUS if you still have gluten, sugar and milk allowed in your diet. OMG. Prices were fair. Service was good. I love Portillo's and wanted to take my mom to experience their food. I tried to hype up the Italian beef but she went for the hot dogs and sausages. However she also got two Italian dips for me and one was very pork made (which I took a photo of). The bread was barely cut and therefore ore was mostly bread and very little meat. We definitely didn't get our $ worth. The other one was made properly but we didn't notice til we opened the second one at home. My mother's review of the hot dog and sausage was that it wasn't good. She said it didn't have any flavor and she expected something different. The cashier was very nice and helpful and friendly. On the flip side our order wasn't called and I had to walk to the counter to see if a bag (that was left there by an employee) was the bag my mother ordered. She was surprised by this as well. Being from Chicago and now living in Minnesota, I was super excited to find a Portillo's in my neighborhood. I went there to get food that I loved growing up in Chicago that I used to get at the Chicago ones all the time. The roast beef sandwich with gravy, Chicago, dog, cheeseburger, and fries and cheese sauce all things I used to love to eat back in Chicago Portillo's. I decided on this trip to get a Chicago dog with cheese fries and a beef sandwich with gravy to eat for dinner the next day. Food was nothing like it used to be in Chicago. The fries were very cold and hard. The roast beef taste like it had absolutely no seasoning. The Chicago dog tasted OK. I was really sad for this experience. Kind of ruined what I hope to be a good experience of something. I always used to love as a kid. Indoor seating is vast, and there is a large outdoor seating area as well. Today, it was Chicago dogs with fries and diet soft drinks. Visited with my mom on a Thursday afternoon around 4pm- we ordered the #2 to get two regular hot dogs and then added on a slice of cake. The order took... a strangely long amount of time to make. It was a 20ish minute wait to get our food even though no one was there. But either way, the food was pretty good. I mistakenly thought that the pepper was a pickle so I bit the hell out of it and had a terrible time. So I took the peppers off and one of the tomatoes (I don't like them very much but had to try it). But the real star of the show was the CAKE. Oh my god I would go back just for the cake. Picked up an order with multiple hot dogs that was completely messed up. We ordered different hot dogs with different toppings for each family member, including garden dogs for the vegetarian. We got the right number of hot dogs in the order but zero garden dogs. They also just put the same toppings on all the hot dogs. So only one family member got what they wanted on their hot dogs, and we have two hot dogs that no one will eat since they aren't garden dogs. We went through the Portillo's Maple Grove drive thru a few months ago, and it was somehow my first time trying it! I was very excited as my old roommate used to tell me how awesome their food is - I'd say it's "upscale fast food." The line wasn't too busy, and we got our food quick. I ordered the Portillo's regular beef hot dog ($3.99) which comes with the classic Chicago-style dog fixin's and a large fry ($4.19). I liked both my hot dog and their crispy crinkle-cut fries. I'm not normally a crinkle fan, but these were pretty good and they gave us plenty. The one critique about the hot dog was some of the bun had gotten soggy due to the pickle/relish juice. I think they should give it to you on the side to prevent it from soaking into the bun before the customer even has a chance to take a bite into it. If it's provided on the side, not only does it help the bun from getting gross, but the customers can control how much of it they like on the hot dog. I'll definitely be coming back to Portillo's if I need a meal within minutes. It's a solid place if you're craving a Chicago-style dog. I think I'd like to dine-in (I've heard their dining space is cool and spacious) next time and try other menu items other than their hot dog. read more

The Italian beef sandwiches are amazing but...the last three times I have ordered food from here, I have not gotten the food I ordered. I have finally learned my lesson to carefully check my order prior to leaving. On this occasion, the did not include the "gravy" on the side as requested, which is better than missing an order of fries, but still a miss. As I was waiting for my gravy, the other customer at the counter was complaining about missing an entire chili dog, so that made me feel better that it's not just my bad luck!
