The counter girl who took our very large order seemed confused and slightly nervous, although I have no idea why. The place was fairly empty and there was no rush to be served. They don't have waiter service, you have to get up and grab the trays from the counter. I'm not a huge fan of that, but the food was layed out on several trays and we managed to get it to the table. The roast beef sandwich was tasty, but very salty, as was the cheese sauce. I could feel the sodium filling me. The burgers were standard burgers, nothing to rave about. Oh how I miss my work trips to Chicago every month. While I'm glad to see there's a Portillo's in Orlando, and it did bring back some fond memories of great Italian Beef sandwiches, but unfortunately it falls a tad short. The first visit here I went with my sandwich "wet" where they dunk it in the "gravy" (jus). It was so we it fell apart. So the second visit I ordered it with the standard amount of gravy and hot peppers. So my wife and I drove all the way up from naples to get portillos as its one of our favorite places to eat as we decided to make a day trip out of it. Yes driving almost 8 hours just to eat somewhere is crazy but we love the food. Unfortunately, this trip was a disaster. My wife got the Italian big beef and I got 2 italian big beefs and Chicago dog. The big beefs were all with hot and sweet peppers which added 4 more dollars to each sandwich on top of the extra charge for the big beef, which i dont mind because theyre always great. We ordered 2 fries and choc cake as well. We got our food to go as we always wait until we get home to eat. Upon getting home and being extremely tired and excited to eat, we found that we did not receive big beef sandwiches and they seemed to be regular size or even smaller and no peppers on any of them as u can see in the picture im putting here. We were there early when they opened and not busy at all. I did not call or go back as the distance makes it irrelevant. I left wrapper on pix so u can see how we got. I was thrilled when this amazing slice of Chicago heaven made it's way to Orlando back in 2021. After visiting Portillo's in downtown Chicago a few years ago I was hooked. This location in Orlando brings that downtown Chicago vibe while providing tons of seating inside & patio dining outside so it can handle a large crowd. Being from south Florida, I only get to visit when I'm in the area but I make sure to stop whenever that's the case. Every time I've gone, whether it be the drive thru or inside, the employees are always so nice. You can usually tell when someone enjoys their job & the people here really give off that energy which is great to see from a customers standpoint. If you've never been & don't know what to get, I'd strongly suggest the Chicago dog. They nail it every single time & serve consistent food that's always fresh. Their crinkle cut fries are always salted to perfection & make sure to order some cheese sauce to dip them in!!! After enjoying your meal you really need to get a slice of their famous chocolate cake (or even a cake shake if that's more your speed). The cake slices are generous & I'm not exaggerating when I say it's some of the most light/airy/moist slices of cake I've ever had. When I consider how great the employees are, tasty the food is & clean the restaurant is kept I really can't see giving it less than 5 stars. They have a large seating area with plenty of tables and despite how busy it always is, we have never had an issue finding an open table when we needed it. You head to the back left to order in the line and the menu is easily visible overhead. They have a good number of options to please just about everyone. I usually go for a hot dog and onion rings with a shake (cause who makes good choices at a place like this?). They'll provide you with a number on your receipt and the next station down. There is a great board that shows what order numbers are being worked on and which are ready, so it's easy to track the progress for your order. We've had no issues with orders being made wrong and the condiments and utensils are readily stocked and easily accessible. However, mid-afternoon on a weekday has proven manageable on 2 visits. Their hot dogs are pretty good. Since it was a long trek for us, I had a Chicago style hot dog on my first visit. I went all in with the fixin's since it was my first time. I also had the Italian Beef Sandwich with the dib on the side (you can get it soaked dunked if you're a try Chicagonite. It was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. The 9 inch was like a beef bomb so maybe share it or get the smaller one. If you're vegan, they have a pretty good Plant Based Dog with all of the good Chicago toppings. I don't 100% know if their buns have dairy or not, so do your own research on the ingredients. I thought it was delicious and would make it a regular non-meat option if and when they come to East Orlando. I'd totally go back and when I'm in this area, I usually hit this and the White Castle for a Slider Chaser! What makes it spicy are the peperoncinis and pepper on the chicken breading. The Portillo's house dressing was like a thick Italian with a little sweetness to it. I thought it was good. We were out and about today, as it was a holiday. Decided to stop in when we passed as it was a new place. It was really busy for 2 PM in the afternoon. The seating area is large and was clean and very diner looking. This is a fast food service, where you order and then pick up your order. The prices compare to the "fast casual" restaurants that offer you to order at the register and then be seated and food is delivered to your table. For the seating area, my only suggestion would be to have at least one more station that you could get your condiments and napkins from. For the size of the seating area and business, that area was super busy to pick up ketchup, napkins, etc. For food, my husband ordered the Italian beef sandwich. He had never had Italian beef, so has no comparison as to what to have expected. He found the meat dry and with little flavor. The bread was just OK. I had the hot dog. -and found it not be as good as I thought. It wasn't bad, but just OK. We shared fries and onion rings. They were both OK, not as hot as I would have expected for the price. Overall, a 3 start due to the food not being as great and flavorful as we would have thought for the price. I would say a good place to go to check out the decor and theme. One of my FAVORITES fast food franchises that serves delicious food. This and CULVERS are to me good quality fast food places along with Chickfila and Shake Shack. Let's talk about the location - It is on Palm Parkway near the White Castle Location. Large amount of parking space. The place has indoor and outdoor eating spaces. They used to serve long foot hotdogs but I noticed they took that off the menu. The place also hands you a FREE chocolate cake if its your birthday. My regular eats here is: Jumbo Chicago Hotdog - It's chicago style and I request pickle on the side. The hotdog bun and the hotdog is delicious. There is a snap when you bite onto the hotdog. The toppings adds taste something to your palate. The hotdog will fill you up. Request JUMBO compared to REGULAR because with the regular it will not fill you up. The Jumbo Chili Cheese Hotdog - Another favorite. The CHILI is the star along with the hotdog and bread. The chili is delicious. They add onions on top with the gooey cheese sauce. Sometimes Chili Cheese dogs are tad salty but the ones here are not. That is why I like it. Again order the JUMBO not the regular to fill you up. The Maxwell Polish Sausage - Now this reminds me of a New Yorker Hotdog if you visit NYC. It's mustard with grilled onions on a Polish Sausage not a Hotdog. This was delicious and better than the Hot Dog version I had in a recent NY trip. It had that snap when you bite into it. I think out of all the ones I have tried - This is my favorite. It's simple but so delicious. And it fills you up. It's the priciest at $6 and change per order. The desserts - The raves on the cakes from here is unbelievable and I had to try them out. I heard they use mayonnaise in the batter to keep the cakes moist and tender. The Lemon Cake - Tender soft cake and the Frosting is delicious - Of course sweet frosting but had that lemon zing to it. It's a delicious refreshing cake. Strawberry Shortcake - I wanted to love this one but It was ok. It was good but It was just ok for me. Its a trifle layered cake - white cake with a layer in between of perhaps strawberry jam? The whip cream frosting with a slice of a strawberry on top. It had that Tres Leches taste and texture to it. Its a refreshing cake for the summer because it's a cold cake. All the cakes are cold not served warm. Eclair Cake - MY FAVORITE. Oh soooooooooooo delicious. I love custard on desserts and this cake was soooo delicious! Its a layered yellow cake with custard after each cake layer and chocolate frosting. This cake was slap ya mama good OH MY! I would order a sheet cake or a round cake with this one. Def a worth try from the cake menu! The onion rings are good here depends on who cooks them. We only went to get cake shake's from the store. We did get the chocolate cake shake and the strawberry/lemon version. Got the smallest sizes, which I think are "regular". They are impressive. We were able to eat half and then save half in the freezer for another day. Chocolate is overly sweet as expected. Strawberry/lemon is ok. Texture can be an issue for people that may have texture issues with having chunks of cake or frosting in a shake. I think we'd go back and get them again if they had a mini size. Haven't tried the food, but one is opening near us in a year or two, so may try that out. read more

Well one certainly gets one's fair share of nostalgia here, much like the one other time we visited this joint. Considering our food cost us over $30, I'd certainly hope so. While one does get a good amount of it too, I often ask what or whether there's a decent profit margin in this business after all? From the perspective of detail, the tile floors, chrome chairs, tables, Naugahyde booths, the retro junk on the walls and the 50's-60's music playing...well: you get it. Meantime, the dining area is totally spotless, and there's also one young lady scurrying about sweeping this, scrubbing that and so on. Kudos to the dear girl for her work. I could eat off the floor and not be grossed out: THAT's how clean it is! While it reminds me of my auntie's restaurant of 40+ years past, there's where we diverge a bit. Cheerless fellow taking orders at the one end certainly needed a less glommed grimace. Other end where one picks up was a lil more in tune with enjoying his work and the goofy atmosphere of 1960 Italian American Chicago grub at its greasiest. I as a New York City type will not eat a Chicago dog based on principle alone. That didn't stop my Maine raised Queen Bee one bit, and she downed them two doggies like a starving pelican dive bombing a tuna trawler. Full monty on them: poppy seed bun, tomato, pickle, relish, peppers and all that. I wound up with a combo beef and sausage sandwich, dipped. Sausage was of excellent quality too. I could taste the fennel in it! He (our doleful order taker) asked if I wanted peppers. For what they charge for this stuff, they have the nerve to add .75c for a couple slices of green pepper?! No thanks...my nod to the vegetable kingdom for today. Some may think I'm cheap; no. It's the principle of the thing; as a Greek American I certainly have more than enough of that for three people. Meantime, these may look like upsized combos in the photos. However they're both "small." We both got filled up, and my combo sammich was certainly a nice tasty parcel, albeit a bit salty from the jus.
