We came to Annapolis specifically to have steamed blue crab, but on day one of three, after navigating the 495 Beltway, we were tired and hangry. We chilled with a glass of Pinot Grigio served by Carlos at the bar. Then we reluctantly opted to eat at our Doubletree hotel, Ports of Call. Wow were we glad we decided to stay in. Our veggie crab soup was so tasty, and where restaurants usually over-salt, this one was perfect. Then there were the crab cakes with a tad of our no-no Canola mayo, we succumbed because it was mostly amazing lump crabmeat. It's our rule and ours to break! My lump crabmeat appetizer was layered with avocado and mango with wasabi drizzle and was outstanding. I want it every day! I'm not kidding. Even my small garden salad with balsamic and olive oil on the side was fresh and garden good. Our server Craig listened, reported answers to all of our oil questions, and even brought me warmed rolls since I wouldn't go so far as eating crackers which were likely laced with "vegetable" oil. It IS our rule, and we can't break it for crackers. Our second night Rodger cheerfully served us, even introducing Chef Jeff, who assured me no veggie oils and all butter. His rockfish Imperial featured tender fish topped with crabmeat and his amazing all-butter remoulade with sides of creamy garlic mash and asparagus. So good I can't see why there isn't a wait line to enjoy this very caring gifted chef's culinary delights. The disco and pop rock offered enhanced ambiance and we were even tempted to do Al fresco patio seating but stayed comfy in our booth Dinner 3, why not, it's that good, was the creamy crab soup (a bit salty), and the oysters Rockefeller, which I last had at Bookbinders in Philadelphia. Chef Jeff did it again and surpassed my expectations, making these less salty than some--maybe still a tad too salty, but cut by a generous wedge of lemon. And speaking of generous, FIVE oysters filled to the top with spinach and buttered breadcrumbs. Rodger again was superb serving with attentiveness. My two breakfasts were for Doubletree's delicious yogurt parfaits--day one with sweet Kim and day two with Julie, who went over the top to serve and make sure everything was perfectly to my liking. I decided to have dinner here since I was staying at the hotel. I opted for the seafood trio, which is a crab cake, grilled shrimp and fried calamari. I decided on broccoli and garlic mashed potatoes. The calamari was absolutely delicious. Some of the best I've ever had. The crab cake and shrimp were ok. Needed more flavor. The broccoli was cooked exactly how I liked it. The mashed potatoes were pretty bland and I ate only a few bites. Overall, the food was ok. The downside is that the music being played is really loud, so I sat in the smaller room that had a door to drown out some of the noise. read more

So this is a two part review: bar and restaurant. First the bar. The bartender I had has no situational awareness and is slow. I stood at the bar trying to get a drink for over 10 minutes while he helped other people. I watched him help people out of order, before others, and just all around a mess. Now the restaurant. The soup they are known for, nothing special. Service is beyond horrible. You wait forever to get seated then you don't see a waiter/waitress for at least another 15 minutes at least. I've had breakfast and dinner here. For breakfast, the communication from the staff is non existent. Needless to say I won't be eating here anymore while I'm in town. read more

Ports of call is at the DoubleTree in Annapolis where I am currently staying and their drinks are absolutely amazing and the bartenders really do a great job... they are all very personable and have their own unique style of how they do things... The kitchen staff definitely knows their way around the kitchen if you come to Ports of call I do recommend getting the Rockefeller oysters they are great appetizer and they are not disappointing if you like seafood. My main entree for dinner was the chicken Caesar salad all the ingredients were fresh and the chicken was on point. The wait staff rather you go for breakfast lunch or dinner are very friendly. This also seems to be a place that locals go on the weekends to hang out in the bar and have cocktails and to socialize.. I have definitely had a great experience here.. read more

A hotel bar and restaurant, it was much smaller than expected when I walked in- maybe 50 people peak? The service people were all extremely courteous and accommodating but really only served the buffet. This was fine as we were looking for convenience and speed. You can also tell while the hotel itself has been updated from the old wood and brass fittings of Annapolis in the past, this restaurant has NOT. Which has its own charm but certainly feels like an entirely different space from a few feet away. Everything on the buffet itself was fine. Fruit and veg were fresh, cookies were fresh, desserts were well cooked. All basic but good food. The proteins were all a bit dry- I know it's a buffet food set up but having a gravy or sauce to add after awhile would have really made a difference here. Tasty and plentiful in general, but again basic and dry. It was also chilly due to being next to the hotel doors which were constantly opening from people coming in and out. We got what we wanted- an easy filling meal and pleasant service with no issues. But we got no happy surprises either. read more

Stopped in for breakfast at 9:30. Stood around for a few minutes because no one seated us. Eventually sat ourselves. It took a while for anyone to acknowledge us. We overheard one of the waitresses tell another table (who had seated themselves after us) that none of the menu breakfast was available and it was just the breakfast buffet. We tried to get the buffet twice but the eggs were completely gone both times. We eventually left (without ever even getting our coffee). We really only came in for the items on the breakfast menu, but were willing to settle for the buffet. We found the menu online and we're driving through, we weren't staying at the hotel. We are staying at the hotel where this restaurant operates. They have gone way down hill. Wings were horribly BREADED of all things, crab soup had the consistency of grade school art class paste, calamari was 90% breading and tasteless. This place is obviously only suited for the occasional hotel guest that is to tired to go across the street to the new Annapolis Town Center with all it's upscale places. The ambiance and atmosphere are decent enough but unless you're sitting at the bar you could die of thirst and faint from hunger. I was there with a group of people last week (maybe about 20 of us) and not a single person asked if I wanted anything to drink or eat. To be fair, we were mostly just standing around and mingling and talking but there was a row of tables set as if we might sit down and eat or drink. This restaurant is a MUST GO! I have been here several times and will continue to go back! I am a Salmon fanatic and they have some great salmon. The Chef cooks it to perfection. Just the way I ask, everytime I go. There crab dip is very delicious as well. What is awesome is that when I went for lunch one time, they weren't serving their salmon. So I got bummed out and the chef came out and made the salmon dizh just for me during lunch hours even though they didnt serve it at that time. That was very sweet of him. Service leaves a lot to be desired. This is my 2nd time staying at the hotel. I'm eating here because it was easy and convenient. I wish I had just ordered from Ubereats. After standing at the host(ess) stand for a few minutes with no one in sight, the bartender finally came and sat me. About 5 minutes later Armando came out and took my order. In the 3 steps from my table to the POS system, he forgot my order and had to ask me what it was again. I ordered grilled salmon, house salad, and steamed broccoli. The salad and broccoli were great. The salmon was over cooked. It was a decent portion, but being on the coast I'd have thought they'd know not to cook salmon well done. Armando's slow service was likely not his fault - he seemed to be the only server working. But the restaurant also wasn't very busy. Had breakfast here twice over our weekend stay mostly because it was super convenient and family members don't get out of bed at the same time. The special bananas foster pancakes were a hit with the kids. The breakfast buffet was nothing outstanding but gets 4 stars because it was fresh, clean and not crowded. The scrambled eggs on the buffet merit mention because they were fluffy, and not dry and not soggy. Bacon and sausage were perfectly cooked and NOT swimming in grease. The banana muffins were seriously delicious! The service was prompt and attentive. Love the patio, especially at night when the fire bowls are lit. read more

When staying at the hotel and you don't want to leave to go anywhere for the night then eating here or ordering takeout is probably your best option. However if your'e looking for a good meal then this might not be the spot. The staff was nice but the food needed work. My calamari came out good but the sauce that came with it didn't go well with it. As for my wings, not only was it salty but I was disappointed when I found that my last 2 pieces were under cooked. I didn't bother with anything else on the menu because it seemed overpriced for the dish. The cream of crab soup was also tasty. However, there is nothing about this establishment to differentiate it from the myriad of restaurants it competes with. I give three stars for average, or what I expect an establishment should offer. This place gets four because it was better than I expected. I tried the classic Cobb salad, twice. It was delicious, both times. I also tried the cream of crab soup, and that was pretty good too. The two breakfasts I had there were just average unfortunately. I ate at this place for dinner out of necessity and wasn't particularly excited about it after reading other reviews. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised! My party ordered basic pub fare. Everything was well prepared and served quickly. The sandwiches were made with fresh ingredients and very flavorful. The food rated 4 stars, but I was very impressed with the level of service and would be remiss if I didn't give 5 stars based on the service alone. At first I thought I just had a really good Server (Carlos), but as I observed the dining room every server was attentive, friendly and very customer focused. Three visits were fantastic! Crab vegie soup and the seafod chop salad great. However, after dinner we ordered a decaf coffee for my lady friend and it had to be caffinated. Unless you have an issue with caffeine you can't imagine how it destroys your sleep and the following day without sleep. My wife and I went to this restaurant for dinner on a Tuesday night. We were upon entering as it was 6 pm and we were one of two parties in the whole dining room. The service was decent but it was the food that ultimately ruined our night. We ordered some calamari which was tasteless and were also brought some garlic rolls which were obviously reheated. My wife ordered a seafood cobb salad and I order a shrimp platter. The shrimp were soggy and not seasoned. But the cobb salad took the cake. lettuce, tomato, cucumber, huge chunks of sliced lunch meet, cheese and some crab meat. I inquired of the server if this was the cobb salad. She answered yes and I inquired as to what about the salad made it a cobb. She asked what she could bring us to make it a cobb salad. She then informed us that the manager had been notified (he never came to our table but rather spent the entire time that we were there sitting at the bar talking sports with the bartender) and that he had spoken to the cook about the issue. Horrible food, okay service, and zero attentiveness by the manager accompanied a $50 check, There is a reason that no one knows about this place. read more

This restaurant provided the single worst dining experience I have ever had. On walking in we were greeted by no one. After chasing down a waitress, we informed her we'd be sitting outside. 10 minutes later, I had to go in and get menus for our group. After another 10, our waitress came to take our drink orders. The drink order finally arrived... Incomplete. A full 20 minutes after we'd received our drinks, I had to go inside and find the waitress to get the last drink. We were about an hour in when our appetizers arrived, but again, I had to go back in the restaurant again, this time to ask for silverware which was not brought with the food. Our main courses finallyee arrived, one seriously over cooked salmon and 2 undercooked shrimp skewers among them. I had 2 crab cakes, unremarkable save for their diminutive size. In the end, the only remarkable thing was the price, which came in at about $40 ahead. My advice, steer your ship to a different Port. read more
