We ordered one cup of Maryland crab and two grilled chicken sandwiches. Twenty minutes go by and the waitress tells us our order will be out soon. The thirty minute mark hits and she comes back and apologizes, says she is new and the order wasn't submitted. The soup is ready and will be right out. At 40 minutes she brings us one cream of crab soup. We remind her it is suppose to be Maryland crab and she apologizes, takes it back with a woman with longer black hair. That woman with the black hair gives the table next to us (who were seated 15 mins ago) their food. She goes past us again to give them extra plates. I ask her, can we please get the soup? She knew we were waiting, she heard there was a mixup, did absolutely nothing to make it right. She's bringing extra plates to the table next to us. She comes back with another cup of cream of crab and two salads. We said we give up and left. At no point did anyone offer a roll or anything to us. Knowing they kept bringing the wrong thing or hating us wait for that long. We sat there and wasted 46 minutes to drink water.

He loved the fish & chicken- well seasoned without feeling your blood pressure rise as you indulged- LOL. The sides were good. I did the smothered porkchops - WOW, best that I have had - really enjoyed the main entrée and my sides (greens, black-eye peas). Both meals came with cornbread (another option was a biscuit). I have to say the food, the Staff and the establishment has been my best taste of southern cooking in the DMV area. I ordered chicken wings (6) to go for wife & I to enjoy later. Definitely worth a visit, we will be back - The smothered chops are calling me already. Lunch for two with a take home order of wings & 2 deserts plus tip was around $100.

The fish (catfish and croaker) always tastes like it's been fried in grease that needs changing. There's no flavor profile in the food which is weird for a soul-food restaurant. The mixed veggies were absolutely disgusting-- gave them back. I paid $65 for fried catfish with two sides, fried croaker with two sides, a cookie and two drinks---and sadly, the only thing that was sort of worth it was the cornbread, but it tastes like it has coconut in it. I hate coconut. The item that was the most flavorful for me was the black eyed peas/hoppin John (minus the big pieces of fatty meat in them).

Then we were basically told to leave because they were closing in 15 minutes and she needed to cash out her checks/tips. Offering a "to-go box" while husband hadn't finished didn't change the fact that we were rushed out after already having a bad experience. The two pianist did no dueling at all; they did mostly duets or took turns taking requests. I was hoping to witness a musical battle. In addition the food was horrid. I ordered the stuffed shrimp with the mushroom risotto but twice my shrimp were undercooked literally gray lines still on the shrimp. When I asked for melted butter for my broccolini I was given cubes of cold butter. I then ordered the short rib having given up on the shrimp and the short ribs slow cooked would surely be done and savory however the carrots could not be cut with a knife at all. I returned the dish and decided to give up. My partner ordered the fish and chips but the fish and chips had a charred old taste as the grease was old and therefore the food had a Smokey taste. I looked at my surroundings and everyone pretty much ordered sandwiches and fries of which they left ample amounts of food untouched. As for the drinks the holiday margarita was mostly ice, very thin small glass and there was no edible glitter in it as promised per the menu. No beers on draft. U had spoke highly of this place after my experience with Chef Ahmad but since I regret I can no longer speak highly. Last but not least the grinch and Santa were the personality for the evening and carried the energy. The waiter due to me not having any food did not comp, send over a manager or right the wrong. I will not return nor recommend. Either do events well or food well; this event was a miss on both. We left early as the event was mediocre at best but also I was hungry and in need of food.

If I had one small note, the potatoes could have been cooked a little more for a crisper texture, but it didn't take away from the flavor of the dish at all. No cover charge, no security screening, no ID check. The smell of fried wings, liquor, and too much perfume/cologne permeated the place. What was absent was the smell of any smoke, which is a huge plus. The place is homey and oddly cozy. The drinks seemed to be poured appropriately. The cups are plastic but the prices were low even for top-shelf cognac so it was a win. My friends had the wings and they loved them. Almost every high top and low table seemed to be enjoying the wings too. We didn't play pool but it seemed to be several pool tables that were in heavy use. The music was 90s and 2000s Hip Hop, Go-Go, and R&B. Solid play list played from a system with no DJ. A few people danced, but most folks were just talking, chilling, and vibing out. Nothing fancy or pretentious, just a cool scene. It is what it is, a juke joint/pool hall. Spartan but in a good dive bar way.
