Friendly service and a cozy little restaurant. We ordered the chicken and ribs for two. Despite the name it was enough to feed a family of 4. 2 adults and 2 littlish kids. The ribs while not fall off the bone, it was still very tender. It had that signature Portuguese bbq grilled taste. It was dry rub but still super flavorful. I didn't even need any spice to eat it. The French fries were also nicely done. The entree also comes with a massive salad. We very much enjoyed the experience. We would be back. read more

I've picked up here before for a party and only had their food after driving 30 minutes and dropping off their food at a party. I never really had the chance to sit down and enjoy their food fresh which I finally had the chance to. The food definitely tastes better fresh. We were on our way back from CT looking for a place to eat and this place just so happened to pop up on places to eat with 0 wait time so we had to come check it out. They had no patrons on a Sunday night which was fine for us being that we are an army of its own with 4 adults and 7 kids. The service was great being that we were the only table. The food was great because everything was fresh. The ambiance was like an old worn down restaurant, but still can pump out some good food. The only thing I'd critique is the ribs, those were some tough ribs with more bone than meat. I'd come here again and definitely come on a Sunday when no one is dining here. read more

When it originally opened the owner was Portuguese and it was authentic. He has since sold. Plaintains are not used in Portuguese cuisine. Food is dry and does not resemble our country's cuisine at all. read more

Loved the food! I ordered the picanha steak, and devoured it. The portions were filling, and the plantains were THE BOMB. There's a cosy Portuguese atmosphere. Service was very friendly. I topped the meal off with flan, and of course that was great too. Definitely will come back. read more

I ordered online and regret it!! I ordered the shrimp that comes with two sides and chose fries and salad as my options. The order took well over an hour; I'm wondering if they don't pay close attention to web orders?? I almost cancelled the order it took so long! The rather large tray of food finally arrived and I was actually salivating until I opened it up! The majority of the tray was a pile of soggy, greasy bland fries and a salad that was more an afterthought than anything! The shrimp were okay but nothing to write home about. I ordered a side of plantains that were a hit with my wife, I thought they were just okay. This delivery was not worth the $25 (not including tip mind you!) I spent on dinner! My family absolutely love your food. They have been getting food from your establishment since it first opened they know the original owners. The chicken, rice and vegetable dish had a great presentation, great favor and cooked very well. We've haven't eaten there was get takeout. The restaurant is clean and organized. Staff is friendly. I don't throw around five star reviews. But the only thing on Yelp that offends me more than inflated ratings are the idiots that gave this place low ratings because their delivery contained soggy fries (duh!) or ribs did not come with barbecue sauce (go back to Virginia). My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal here and I'm giving an extra star to compensate for the undeserved low rating and for the adorable waiter. She had grilled fish; I had pork with clams and potatoes. To start there was a small salad, a dish of olives, and warm crusty bread. The olives, bread, olive oil and vinegar were all top notch. We each had a glass of wine -- white for her, red for me -- and left the choice to our waiter: both were very nice. Main portions were generous. Wife's fish, vegetables, and rice were perfect. I'd have preferred more clams and less pork and some of my pork was not as tender as I'd have liked, but I still found it to be a delicous dish and used the excellent bread to sop up the rich flavorful sauce and cleaned my plate. Two postreis natal -- small custard tartlettes -- were a pleasant way to end a lovely meal. We look forward to returning soon. read more

I normally go here because of the ribs. However, I put a take-out order and the size of the ribs were extremely small, about 1/4 the size it is normally. Not only that, but they sent over a smaller quantity. I was totally ripped off. read more

Wow...wow...tucked away in a shopping center. Transported to Lisbon for a late lunch. The gentleman that served us was so good. Sharing how long he has worked at the restaurant. Food portion was a lot. French fries were not the best, ribs were lacking go to Big Daddy's if you want great ribs. Like I said food portion was a lot but there was no sauce for any of the items ordered! no barbecue sauce at all! No steak sauce! Food was tasteless, no flavor or seasoning. Great spot! Would like it better for take out then sit down. We sat down as a family and service is a little slow. There seemed to be only one waiter (I think he was the owner). Kind of wish he was more attentive to us. Portion sizes are great for the price you pay. Food was okay, definitely used real quality meats. Pretty good take out place to try. read more

This place was very hard to find but I was determined and glad I did. Got seated and started with Sangria not great but good. Had the garlic shrimp for appetizer pretty good. But know the bbq was banging!! My kids had the chicken and ribs platter for 2 and couldn't stop saying how good everything was. My husband and I got the bbq mixed platter yummy. Would recommended this platter to anyone eating here. Portions are large. Also, can't forget our waiter he was awesome and gave us a little history of the town. This is restaurant has a nice quaint atmosphere. The staff is wonderful. It's got a real "family owned restaurant" feel to it. It's great for a date, luck with friends or a family dinner. This is truly a hidden gem in a Spring Valley strip mall. They serve generous portions of authentic Portuguese cuisine. The Portuguese sausage appetizer was a real highlight, and could have been an entree (we took the rest home and can't wait to eat leftovers). The proprietor/waiter was very charming. If you're in Rockland and drive to Newark any time you are jonesing for Portuguese food, please give this place your business once in a while. You won't regret it. Went back a few weeks ago on a Saturday night and what a disaster. Two waiters who also had to bartend. Waited and waited for our order and they came out with the wrong dish for my wife which was also cold. Sent it back and kept waiting. Finally told them to forget it. This place is a hidden jewel. The food was REALLY GOOD. The fried calamari was great, good taste, not soggy. Also had chorizo or sausage, that was good too. A bit spicy, but I liked it. Yes I had more than one appetizer! So what!? Don't be cheat have more than one appetizer. Ordered the bbq for two, it would had served 3 or 4 people with "normal" appetites. I took my leftovers home. The chicken was really tasty. The ribs were fall off the bone. Over all food was really good, I would had given this place 5 stars for that. The only reason I didn't given them 5 stars was cause there was only one server. The place is clean. Family friendly. But this place has to be manned by two people. The guy did get Some assistance after a while, I believe the lady had to be a kitchen personnel. The guy got some things in my order wrong. Which I'm guessing was cause he was overwhelmed. In short? Quality food, flavor, and portions for an insanely low price. If you're looking for affordable, family-style food full of flavor, you have to come to Portuguese Churrasqueira. It's family-owned + their secret recipes are amazing. My dad introduced this place to me about 6yrs ago. You can feed a family of 4-6 VERY WELL for less than $30. Order the Frango no Churrasco with yellow rice + fries, you won't be sorry. And it'll only cost you $14. The rice soaked with the chicken juices is the best. I'm more of a chicken fan, but my family/friends always rave about the ribs + steaks. This place is also good for takeout orders. You can even throw a dinner party for friends that will have them thanking you forever. Tip: do NOT reheat in a microwave. You have to heat it up in an oven. They give it to you in aluminum trays, so it's really easy to do this. Some people complain the fries get soggy. I don't really mind. They're soaked up in all the chicken juicy delicious-ness. But to silence my complainers, I usually heat up the fries separately in a toaster oven in one single layer. I've gotten so many people hooked on what I call "my little secret," I should get a finder's fee. ;) read more

The seafood rice was really good, especially the delicious clams and mussels. Unfortunately, it arrived so late that the group was already full and couldn't enjoy as much of it. The sangria was also good. Atmosphere: The restaurant was especially lively on the weekend, and it was great to see the place so full. A busy old fashioned dining room is always a good sign and shows that the restaurant has built a strong reputation.

The buffet had an assortment of delicacies and you can pick and choose whatever you want (priced per plate, not totally sure the full pricing structure but the small to go box was $10 and I think the medium was $14?), so we got to try some tasty pork bean stew with bacon & tripe, ribs, etc. Regret not trying the chicken dishes too as they look great. Staff was friendly, welcoming and very helpful when we asked what was in each dish. Would most definitely come back again!

The service - well you feel like family. We did a tasting menu that the chef planned. 8 courses (plus bread service). Dessert was served in the kitchen. All courses had a beverage pairing. Menu: Beet / yogurt pairing with little hints of different flavors that surprise you in a good way Tomato soup (cold) - not like anything I have had before. The father of the chef grows the little tomatoes - maybe grape tomatoes. Not sure. The best tomato soup I have ever had - there were three small tomatoes floating in the soup. So tender (no skin). Wow! Raw yellow tail with two differed sauces that you combined it all together - super fresh fish, amazing sauces - I really can't find the words to do justice for this dish. Even my husband who doesn't eat any sushi had this. And loved it. Seas bass on fava bean sauce - likely the best seas bass I have had. I'm used to Black Sea bass off the boat in Montauk; hard to beat this and they did! Tiger prawn tempora - this was served with a cold beer. Omg. I will never have tempora without a beer again. (I generally don't drink beer.) The batter was exceptionally light, the flavor if the prawn shined. Sockeye salmon on rice - I am not explaining this properly. Wowowow Filet beef with a concentrated au ju - perfectly prepared ... so flavorful. So good. Dessert: tiramisu, two different decadent cookies small and wow. Chocolate truffle (maybe not the right word) but wow We started with champagne, had white wine, red wine, beer, and port. The wines were from Portugal and were sulfite free. And they were spectacular in their own right and perfect pairing with the food. We were here for a big bday cele - it was so special. I will never forget! And I look forward to going back. I wish there were more stars to give. Wish there were more adjectives. I am at a loss at how to explain how good this experience was. If you ever get a chance to go, run there! If you haven't been, call and get a reservation or plan an event. This place has great history with an amazing family. Their passion for food and people is off the charts.
