Good Seafood, Fun Rooftop Atmosphere We had a very enjoyable evening at Poseidon Coastal Cuisine in Hilton Head. We started with the Oysters Rockefeller, and they were excellent--fresh, flavorful, and a great way to kick off the meal. For my entrée, I ordered the Broiled Seafood Combination. Everything was cooked well, fresh, and nicely presented. While I enjoyed it, I thought it could have used just a bit more seasoning or flavor to really make it stand out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had reservations for the rooftop, which has a fun atmosphere with dueling pianos providing live entertainment. The music made for a relaxing and enjoyable evening.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The only downside was getting upstairs. It was a little confusing because security was collecting admission for another event, and we had to explain we had dinner reservations. Then, despite being clearly well over the minimum age, everyone still had to show ID to prove they were 21 or older. It wasn't a major issue, just an unexpected and slightly awkward process. What a treat to have gluten free fried seafood! I've wanted to come to Poseidon for quite a while, and finally we got here during our most recent SC trip! Service was VERY friendly and on top of refills and recommendations, and their gluten free menu is extensive! I even appreciated how my dish was marked as an allergy! We got the hush puppies, calamari (GF), sliders, kid's pizza, shrimp roll, lunch deal with she crab soup, shrimp and grits, and a salad, and then I got the GF oysters and scallops with fries. Hush puppies were the best of the trip (per my mom). Fried crispy and super puffy and delicious - their batter is great! Calamari (GF) was solid, but I would have liked the giardiniera to be on the side since it was too spicy for everyone at the table, and the batter came off the calamari easily. The sliders were solid as well - nothing too wild but nice and juicy. My mom enjoyed her shrimp roll and also said it was fine, and she loved the roll it came on. Hubby really enjoyed his lunch deal, especially the soup and shrimp and grits, and he appreciated the opportunity to try 3 different dishes. He said the salad was fine, but the shrimp and grits and soup shined amidst the 3 dishes for sure. I truly appreciate the opportunity to eat gluten free fried seafood. The oysters were juicy and perfectly fried, and those fried scallops were perfection. Maybe a smidge overcooked, but I enjoyed every single bite and would 100% recommend the scallops to anyone going for some fried food! The fries were thicker which I liked, nicely seasoned, and also gluten free. We brought the whole family out to enjoy Poseidon while on vacation on HHI, and it did not disappoint. Service was friendly and attentive. Poseidon's was pretty mediocre. There are a couple of things it has going for it right out of the gate... they take reservations, which on Hilton Head is practically a public service, and they have a kids menu, which makes life a lot easier for families. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the convenience. I started with the musubi, and it was missing the sticky rice texture that makes musubi so satisfying. The sauce that usually ties everything together just wasn't doing it for me either. Then I moved on to the poke bowl. It was okay, but there was a surprising amount of lettuce in it. Lettuce in a poke bowl feels like the culinary equivalent of getting socks for Christmas. It's not bad... it's just not what I was hoping for. Give me more rice, seaweed, fish... something that belongs there. My mother-in-law ordered the cioppino and described it as missing what we in the restaurant business call "flavor." It was so uninspiring that she didn't even take the leftovers home, which may be the harshest review a meal can receive. Maybe we just hit an unlucky combination of menu items. That's certainly possible. But with so many fantastic restaurants around Hilton Head, I won't be rushing back to conduct further research. read more

I went to Poseidon based on recommendations from a gluten free app I use for restaurants. I would consider this a more casual dining restaurant due to the volume of the restaurant and how busy it seemed. I was seated right away without a reservation. I ordered the fried green tomatoes caprese and the blue crab dip with a glass of wine. The crab dip was creamy and very good. I prefer a little more crab and a little less cream but the taste was on pointe. The fried green tomatoes were a little hard and not as tasty as I expected. The beet, goat cheese salad with fried oysters was perfect. They all paired very nicely together and I was very excited to have gluten free fried oysters. I can't wait to return to try more of their menu. My waitress was also very accommodating and helpful with the menu and suggestions. read more

Well this is a great place but unfortunately I am concerned their advertisement of Tito's vodka isn't Tito's. I had an allergic reaction to Tito's and water, which I never have but I do have with cheap vodka. The happy hour is worth it but maybe the Tito's is not as advertised. Upon the recommendation of our Omni Hilton Head shuttle driver we went to Poseidon. Greatest immediately by the server. He asked if we want inside or outside. We chose the outside bar with plastic roll down windows / wind barriers with a heater over our table. The waitress greeted us promptly and brought waters. We ordered drinks and sushi roll appetizer. Both couples chose to share surf and turf and mixed grill options. Both were delicious both with a filet cooked perfect medium. We visited the Rooftop Bar and Dueling Piano show for the next evening. My waitress was so amazing, so friendly and knowledgeable of the menu! However, my food was soooo bland, I was so shocked because it was such a great vibe in the restaurant! We made a reservation for 4 for dinner on Saturday night. When we arrived, the host was pretty lacksdasial about greeting us and just asked if we wanted to be seated upstairs or down. It was out first visit so we decided to try upstairs. The vibe is definitely very casual and looks like a great spot for appetizers & drinks during warmer weather. Our server was friendly and did a good job taking care of us. We started with a dozen VA oysters on the half shell and they were a-ok. One or 2 of the oysters had a weird consistency but overall tasted fine. One of the people at our table got the she-crab soup & did not finish it.. She said ahe wouldn't order this again here. Hubs had a ceaser salad & said it was fine. For dinner our friends ordered a couple of sushi rolls. They said that the rolls were OK, but nothing to write home about. I ordered a Pacific sushi bowl with salmon. The salmon was cut into tiny bites but was an ok amount of salmon. This bowl also had some edamame, sushi rice, jalapeños, soy pineapple, etc. I would order this again. Hubs had pasta with shrimp added. He said the sauce was a weird consistency and it did look rather oily to me. He said the shrimp were tiny & not worth the $8 extra upcharge. First night in the area, the friend we're visiting knew we liked oysters and a happy hour bargain, so she brought us here. As it happens, it was restaurant week, so in addition tour our buck a shuck oysters, we had soup and entrees off a special menu. Two of us got fried shrimp and scallops, delicious and generous portion with the lightest non greasy batter. Hubby got trout on grits (salty like the she crab soup, but yummy). After dinner we went upstairs to a dueling piano show. It was a fun surprise and a nice way to kill an hour with an after dinner drink. Don't hesitate to come - inside, outside. When visiting Hilton Head Island in SC, be sure to stop at Poseidon Restaurant for lunch or dinner. The restaurant has delicious seafood and steaks. They have a great Happy Hour from 4pm-7pm. There's indoor and outdoor seating. The upper deck has live music on the weekends. I'm giving this restaurant 4/5 out of 5! We always enjoy stopping by Poseidon Lounge, especially during our annual trips to Hilton Head Island. It's become a bit of a tradition for us. We prefer sitting at the outside bar rather than inside -- it's covered, so you're shaded from the sun, and there's a distant view of the water, which adds to the laid-back coastal vibe. They have a nice selection of draft beers, and I especially enjoyed a glass of Sycamore Super Quench, a refreshing wheat ale with citrus notes. There's also a decent wine selection by the glass -- we went with the Domain Barcelo Rosé, which was light and easy-drinking. For an appetizer, we had the Pimento Cheese Dip served with pita wedges. The dip was flavorful and satisfying -- a great choice to share over drinks. Our bartender was helpful, lively, and entertaining, which made the experience even better. Service is consistently good, and the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. All in all, Poseidon Lounge is a reliable and enjoyable spot. Our experience at Poseidon was OK at best. Our sever was really nice, and so was the owner (or manager?) who came by to check on us. The food was average, and definitely overpriced. Out of our party of 7, items from 3 of our meals were forgotten. The duck wings as an appetizer were definitely the best part of the meal. We had some get fried fish & some get broiled (can't exactly remember which fish specifically, in writing this a few days later) but the consensus was the fried seemed to be better. This is one of our go-to spots when visiting the area. If you don't have a reservation you will most likely have a wait. The bar area has limited seating and is usually filled. You can dine outside with your fur friend which is a plus. The hush puppies are some of our favorites along with the she crab soup and fresh fish. We were craving good Seafood and that is what we got! The clams were fresh, chewy, and salty. Perfectly paired with bread to sop up the liquid to end the meal. The She crab had a tomato base and distinct taste. Definitely felt like eating straight from the ocean and meaning it in the best possible way. All the seafood that came were substantial, "meaty", pieces. The shrimp had a snap to it. The crab dip was addicting. The casserole had a nice texture with smashed Ritz crackers in it. We happened to be there on a Tuesday Night and dined on the Rooftop Level. At 9p, the server was so kind. She saw that we had young kids in our party and told us to take the kids out to the balcony area to see the Fireworks on the Island. She was so patient-- told us to take the kids to see the fireworks and would take our order after because she didn't want them to miss it. The gesture was super thoughtful. The service was really warm and hospitable. The Nautical theme of the restaurant was super cool. The light fixtures, signage, decor and Wall Art made you feel you were walking into a kingdom in the ocean. Super chic, hip and vibrant. A Margherita flatbread that was practically inedible the cheese was a question mark HOWEVER...the dueling pianos was so much fun. The only reason that I gave this restaurant a 3 is due to the location, ambiance and good service from our waiter. The price point was also nice for HH better dining. There was so much wrong with the food I am only going to hit the highlights. The food quality is akin to an Applebees restaurant. Mass produced and processed. The waiter told me that the NE clam chowder was his favorite so I trusted his suggestion. It was allegedly home made and I assure you this was not the case. I've opened my share of Campbell's soups and this was as if they forgot to add the water or milk. Thick and too salty and NOT homemade. The she crab soup was also mentioned. This may have been home made there, but was still too thick. Nice flavor with hints of sherry which can be over powering if you add too much. I ordered a " beet salad" which the waiter also told me had ample beets. This was not the case. It was a decent salad at best, not remarkable at all. The size was not equal to the price. More like a side salad than an entree salad. My wife had the wedge salad which was really poorly presented and made. Someone at the table ordered the crab cakes . Being from Maryland and also a cook I can tell you these were okay but not what you'd expect for the price. They had that orange look to them which pure lump back should not have. Too much filler as well. Our other friend ordered the fried seafood which they served in a bowl. Awkward and it looked oily. He was not impressed. I could go on but I think you get it. The food was good. I had the broiled seafood platter. Drinks took an unusually long time to get to the table. Our waitperson did explain the bar was backed up. My main gripe is with the greeting station. They have one and it was empty when we got there and empty for the 15 minutes we had to wait for a table despite reservations. Meanwhile walk-in's are getting seated immediately. Waitpersons are apologizing for no one being at the station. Either the restaurant hasn't trained staff well or scheduled enough coverage.
