Convenient location-great place to be if you're a sports fan and games are on. Lots of seating options, and quite busy on a beautiful December Sunday afternoon. Service was attentive and super friendly. The meats were excellent, but we too didn't like any of our sides. No flavor whatsoever.

Smoked wings with mild bbq sauce

This is one of my favorite restaurants on Hilton Head Island. The restaurant is clean and very welcoming. They have plenty of outside seating and a decent inside section as well. I grabbed one of their specials this week, award winning Mac and Cheese- pork belly and pobalno macaroni and cheese made with a creamy blend of white cheddar and pepper jack cheese. Topped with bacon and bread crumbs. I also got wings, smoked with mild bbq sauce. The Mac and cheese was very flavorful and very nice presentation. The wings had a very nice flavor and were cooked perfectly.

Food was really good, service was majorly lacking. When we came in it was clear they were super understaffed, there were at least three tables near us that needed to be bussed and by the time we left (over an hour later), two of them still needed to be bussed. I've never really seen that before but I know a lot of places are struggling to get employees so I'm assuming that was the problem here. Idk if this place is like that all the time but if so, prepare for it to be slow. Service was slow and refills took a long time coming. We weren't in a hurry so it wasn't really a big issue for us. That being said, we all enjoyed our meals. I got the brisket sandwich because their meats smelled absolutely amazing as soon as we walked in. The brisket was moist and the fries were hot and crispy. They have three sauces you can try, one like sweet, one hot, and one mustard based. I liked the sweet one. It isn't too sweet but went well with the meat. I also got garlic aioli on the side and it was my favorite condiment here. Very garlicky and was great on the fries.

Butt and Bones

It was date night with another couple. The Smokehouse doesn't take reservations, but that shouldn't be an issue since they can accommodate many hungry guests. There's plenty of parking in their private lot. I thought they were supposed to have a car charging station, but I couldn't find it. We arrived just as happy hour was ending around 6 pm. They do have some great happy hour specials and hopefully I'll be back to enjoy them. We were quickly seated at a booth in the dining area away from the bar. Jack was our waiter and did an excellent job. I ordered the Butt & Bones taking the ribs and pulled pork. My wife had the black bean burger which she said was excellent. The ribs were quite tiny. The end of the baby backs. Fortunately they gave a lot of pulled pork which was perfectly smoked and very tender and not fatty. The dinner came with corn bread, grilled veggies and mac & cheese. Very filling. Plus 2 pints of Side Hustle Liquid Gold. The prices are reasonable. They have a great selection of craft beer on draft and an offering of signature cocktails. Checkout is provided by Toast and they also have a rewards program.

The layout of The Smokehouse is not what you expect a BBQ restaurant to look like. They have outdoor seating in the front, on the side and on the rooftop (that's not including all of the indoor seating). This place is massive, modern and definitely newer. The only side I liked was the beans honestly. The potato salad, grilled veggies and green bean casserole lacked flavor but the fries were good as well. The second round of ribs that were actually warm weren't too bad and they were better especially after adding their house made BBQ sauce. I felt the same way about the brisket, it lacked flavor but the BBQ sauce made it better. The pecan pie stole the show and that's why I gave this place 4 stars. It's easily probably one of the best pecan pies I've ever tasted. They put the chocolate sauce OTS and when I paired them; decadence! Our server was good too, I don't remember his name though because I wasn't there during the intro.

For lunch my mom and I decided to stop at 12:30. I do have some food allergies so I asked her server her name is Jordyn; what I was able to eat she said I could eat any of the meats but nothing fried. I had the half rack of ribs for $28 which comes with two sides I got there two sides of baked beans. They also have their own barbecue they have a medium barbecue sauce, they have a Carolina barbecue sauce which is vinegar based but also made with the house mustard, and then they have a spicy barbecue which she said you can see it has a chili flake on the label. I ordered their low country twister for their drink; which was vodka, cranberry and grape juice as well as Gingerale. The drink is very light but also very refreshing you can definitely taste the cranberry grape juice that they used. A perfect drink for the afternoon. My mom and I both got ice waters with lemon and then she also got a diet Coke. For lunch she had at their French dip with their fries and the French dip comes cut in half with the dipping sauce on the side. You can also come for dinner; and they also do you need to go they have a little brochure at the check-in booth where you can come and get their options for what they have on the menu as well as their needs to go menu. They also have a brand new bar up top that it's open for happy hour from 4 to 7 PM; but the bar itself is 21 and up only and it's open from 4 to 12 AM. The ambience of the smokehouse is a upscale barbecue joint with easy options for sandwiches, meat plates, steaks and sides it is also a great option for dinner. 10/10

Finally got a chance to actually eat here--had only been for drinks prior. There were 5 of us and we were immediately seated at 5:30 pm in the dining area on a Thursday. The bar area was crowded and hopping! Our server, Allison C was attentive and friendly and checked in frequently. I had the Kansas City burnt ends plate from the Specials board. It came with baked beans, pickle slaw and steak fries. I'm a sucker for Carolina-style sauce too. Wondered if I could have swapped out the fries for cornbread? It was delicious nonetheless. Other entrees included the chicken Caesar wrap, boneless ribs, fried bologna sliders (forgot to photograph), Butt & Bones plate, and Smokehouse Bowl. Everyone enjoyed their meals, leaving no room for dessert, but I have my eye on the key lime pie for next visit.

Burnt ends sandwich

Food was 3 stars and atmosphere & service were 5 stars - so it equates to 4. We've been to lots of bbq places in the US as well as one back home in Connecticut which is pretty good, so we felt we could compare pretty fairly. My husband got the brisket platter which was kind of underwhelming for $24. His sides were Cole slaw which was neither good or bad, and baked beans which he said was good. He asked for lean meat, which it was, but just not that great. There was a piece of cornbread too. I had a brisket sandwich for $15 with burnt ends (up charge of $2.50 - totally expected & worth it) shoestring Fries came in one of those cute metal baskets. Totally fine - probably from frozen vs homemade. The place was crowded for a cold January day. The bar was packed as they have happy hour Monday-Friday. I heard it had burned down & was rebuilt - the interior was very nice, open & airy. Lots of tvs to watch football on. Our server was great & the food was out in mere minutes. I'm told in summer, you can't get near the place (crowds), but I think that's just most places on Hilton Head.

Burnt ends, I think not.....!!!
Tedd W.

Stopped in for a late lunch today, place was not very crowded, have visited Smokehouse several times, always good food and service, not today, arrived around 2:00pm and as I said no crowd, dropped the wife off and went to park the car, assuming she would have a table or booth in the dining area, she was still waiting at the hostess station as no one was there , finally we were seated and a server came over to take our drink order, ok fine..... now he takes our food order , I order a cup of chili and ask if I could just order a baloney sandwich, at first he said no they only come as sliders, I said you mean to tell me I can't order fried baloney on a bun as a sandwich, said let me check, so now my wife orders , she ask for burnt ends which she has had here before and really likes them , not as sliders just burnt ends, so when the server returns with our food mine looks good and is fine (a fried baloney sandwich, imagine that)... he starts to drop off my wife's and before we can say anything he realizes he had brought a pulled pork sandwich and takes it back quickly returns with just the pulled pork on a plate, telling us this is a order of burnt ends, not so , what we think happened he took the pulled pork sandwich back scrapped off the meat and called it burnt ends, not wanting to argue with the sever or call a manager we accepted and left very irritated with the service from the server, was not very friendly or professional (he must have been having a bad day) love this place and food and will return , but today the service not so good.....!!!

Chicken and Ribs
Chloe B.

The food. Amazing. They are known for their ribs and for good reason. They come so nice and tender, and they give you their variety of sauces to add yourself. My mom got this with chicken, but we don't recommend the latter. Chicken was incredibly dry. Everything else, the salmon, cornbread, potato, perfect. Don't get me started on that BOWL - meats were devine and perfect way to try a bit of everything. The rooftop has this great view, feel, and bar with some couches to watch the big screen. I recommend it on a nice day. Just be prepared for the wait because the bartender ended up being our server. He sorta forgot about us, entered our food late, and just lacked personality. Entrees came out at peculiar times too, the bowl coming out fifteen minutes before my family's. If you're looking for a stunning spot for the game or just relaxation with amazing ribs, this is definitely worth the stop.

Does anyone know if the outdoor space is dog friendly? Always looking for an option for "check-in" afternoon.

I’m pretty sure they do, but so many places take your doggy .. Coast on the patio, Skull Creek, Dockside all tide doggies for sure. The beach is the best place ever for your doggy.

Surprisingly roomy with two separate dining rooms and a third with a bar and more tables. Service was quick, but a little too quick. Our appetizer, salads and entrees all arrived at the same time crowding our little table. We ordered onion rings to start. Let me tell you: these were the best I've ever had. Positively delicious. But no sauce!!! So I made my own with ketchup and hot sauces. Chicken picata was good. Chicken a Parmesan and crab stuffed grouper were also ok. Salmon was decent. There was a huge selection of sandwiches and some yummy desserts. We all had a good meal. A little pricey for what got. But I still recommend.

My husband is a sucker for spinach artichoke dip and we gave theirs a try. We both really liked it, but we were sort of fighting over it since there was so little of it. For our entree, the stuff was super accommodating and let us split the Italian beef sandwich. Points to the staff for giving me the plate with the pickle spear! Also points to the staff for the warning about the spicy giardiniara. I still got it and enjoyed it, but was still a little (pleasantly!) surprised. We each enjoyed our half of the sandwich. Very Chicago-esque atmosphere inside, surely to appeal to those traveling from that area, or who miss home. The food was great, the staff was excellent. Check them out if you're missing your midwestern food!

Back a year later and there has been distinct improvements. However, let me start by recommending…read moreyou AVOID the food trucks in the beer garden. Here's why: when paying the person processing my payment selected the tip level and paid themselves a 30% tip before I could do anything about it, so beware. Inside, the food and beer are better. There is also a large beer selection inside instead of ordering at the outside window, but the service in both of these locations was excellent. They also had live entertainment, which was a great addition. Food has improved. Try the dry rub chipotle wings. They are delicious. Owners: look into the food truck issue. You will lose customers because of this. I did not make an issue of it because I was with a large group and did not worry about the $8 auto tip on a $17 total bill but if this happened all the time it will catch up with you. Worth addressing.

It is now all kid games and vending machines, and all their merchandise is packed in the corner by the side door. And I understand they wanna be family, friendly, and kid oriented however they also have moved their chips and salsa from their menu; and there's lots of families with little kids so if you wanna come here, I don't recommend coming on a Sunday night. Since it is Sunday night, they have all of the sport games playing they have baseball, soccer, golf, etc. I'm pretty sure they do watching for the FIFA as well. Overall, our bartender is very knowledgeable regarding what drinks have dairy one of the sours has dairy.
