I chose Positano in Wheaton because I've always enjoyed the Oak Brook location and was curious to see how this one compared. The Wheaton space feels more modern, though it lacks some of the warmth and charm I associate with Oak Brook. It was very busy and louder than I prefer, which made the experience feel a bit less intimate. That said, the bar area is inviting, and I can definitely see myself stopping in for a drink and a small bite. Service didn't quite have the friendliness and polish I'm used to at the other location. It wasn't bad, just missing that extra touch that makes you feel truly welcomed. The food, however, delivered. The linguini vongole was perfectly al dente with a generous portion of clams, and the homemade meatballs over creamy polenta were a standout appetizer. They craft a solid Negroni, though the Old Fashioned could use a bit more attention. Overall, it's a good option in town, and I may return. But with strong competition nearby, it has to work just a little harder to rise to the top. read more

I came here with a friend last night and we had a very enjoyable experience. We love downtown Wheaton and wanted to try something new. Our waiter was really sweet and provided excellent service. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing- it was great for a chill girls night out! The pasta was delicious! My friend ordered one of the specials from last week that she saw posted online. They were able to accommodate her and make it even though it was last week's special. She ordered it with the penne. It came in a creamy white sauce with blackened shrimp and broccoli. I tried it and it was soooo good! I ordered the rigatoni allá vodka with crumbled sausage and it was perfect. I really loved the large rigatoni and the taste of the sausage. We chose the more casual environment and it was a very charming place for a holiday dinner. The service is friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was very welcoming. While all the food and drinks were all good, the star was the Fruitta di Mare which was better than it had any right to be when we're in the Chicago land area and we're eating seafood. Definitely recommend it. This is a great addition to the neighborhood and we will definitely be coming back. read more

Wonderful atmosphere, food, and service. We made a reservation for 9:30 PM and were the only people in the restaurant. They serve fresh bread while you look through the menu and wait for your food. We ordered the fried calamari, Rigatoni Baragiano, and Pappardelle al Nonno. I loved the fresh noodles in the pappardelle and the sauce/meat of the rigatoni. Review is from a vegetarian's angle. This a fairly fancy "classic" Italian restaurant; wine menu includes Dom Perignon. I chose the formal dining room, as opposed to the bar. Service was solicitous and they were playing Sinatra. I was here early so there was ample parking; it's across from a parking lot if street parking fills up. They have a surprising number of vegetarian options: in addition to the salads, which I always ignore, they have 7 different pasta dishes including 2 kinds of ravioli and 3 of 5 pizzas, plus a build-your-own option. If you want a vegetable other than red sauce, spinach or eggplant, you'll need to get a side. The only veg appetizer is the bruschetta, as the risotto has chicken stock in it. What I wanted was manicotti and they don't have it, so I got the Eggplant Positano (basically manicotti but eggplant subbed for pasta), a French Martini and the limoncello cheesecake. My server was happy to get a light pour on the martini and sub garlic mashed potatoes for the pasta that came with my main. Garlic was a bit subtle but the potatoes were otherwise fine. The pasta is house-made, so you might prefer that. The drink and dishes were well-executed (not a huge eggplant fan but it was pretty good; textures were fine; not too much breading) and the entree portion generous. Nothing here will bring me running back, but if you're a vegetarian prowling for a fancy Italian dinner, this is a solid choice. Four stars for limited vegetarian appetizer options and no lasagna or manicotti. read more

Super classy vibe, and the food-from salads to pastas to dessert-was excellent. I had the Risotto alla Positano, Arborio rice with porcini mushrooms, grilled shrimp, and scallops in a saffron broth with fresh tomatoes. Every bite was rich, balanced, and full of flavor. I hadn't had Italian food in a while, and this reminded me of what I've been missing. My wife had the stuffed eggplant, and she said she loved it -- it was great. It was my first time back since this new restaurant replaced Wok n Fire, and I have to say the transformation is impressive. The space feels open and welcoming. Walking in to the sound of Sinatra playing at just the right volume set the tone perfectly. Service was excellent. Then we each ordered different pasta bowls, loved them and can't wait to try them all. The best part of the evening was our server, Sky. My girlfriend wanted to take me somewhere special for my birthday so picked Positano Wheaton as it's close by, love Italian food and this looked like a unique Italian restaurant instead of the normal Mama Meatball places. I also liked the reviews by Chicago people who said it was as good as places in the city (yes I used to live in the city and miss it.) Greeted warmly by staff and got a seat in the bar area seating (as opposed to the main seating area which I'll try next time) but this was perfect as Bears and Packers Pt 1 was on tv which was fun to observe but too much was happening at our table for me to really focus on them. The server was smart, funny and super attentive without being overly so and when she didn't know what wine to recommend she sent over a sommelier who set us up with a nice Italian vintage. We started with the mussels. These were ok. Seemed slightly pre-made but this was the only small knock on our entire fantastic meal. Next course was the Pasta: we selected the Rolled Eggplant with ricotta and mozz on top. Got it with "easy cheese" and it was perfectly sumptious and had the exact easy cheese as requested. The eggplant was cooked perfectly and was so very tasty. On the main course, if you've never had Veal this is the place to try it. I love a good Veal Milanese or Parmesan and the Milanese was perfect! Breaded, lightly pan fried with Arugula, large shavings of Parmesan cheese and a properly cooked Polenta side. Delicious! The meal ended with a homemade fluffy, light, exquisite Tiramisu to send us both home very satisfied and happy. Thank you Positano family! read more

5 stars all the way!!! Great food! As good as a great restaurant in Italy! Service was attentive and caring. Honestly- the best Italian food I have ever had in Chicagoland. The music and lighting was perfect. When we arrived we immediately were given the menus and water. The warm bread and olive oil dipping mix was served within a couple of minutes- with a pleasant- let me know if you want more. The Grigliato Misto was better than what I was served in Italy, the Chicken Parmesan was amazing and the Eggplant Positano was authentic. Normally I never have Tiramisu - but theirs is the best, lightest I have ever tasted. I'll be back! And soon! read more

Great new Italian restaurant just south of the train tracks in downtown Wheaton. Friendly staff and very prompt service. They definitely aim to please. Decor is modern black and white, which may feel a little sterile to some people, or hip and modern to others. The main dining area is open with high ceilings, which brings up the only negative... noise levels will likely be quite high during peak dining. The Pollo Marsala was excellent, probably one of the best preparations I've ever had! The Pappardelle da Nonno, Vitello alla Limone, and Pollo Positano also got great reviews. I think that there are better Italian restaurants in the area like fire and wine. Nice for a date, beautiful ambiance but not worth the $200 we spent for four of us. Our first dinner at Positano was great! We saw it being renovated in Wheaton last year and finally got a chance to visit. We had the muscles in white sauce to start, which was very good obviously. I had the filetto marsala, rare, while my husband got the salsiccia di puglia. The steak was so good, very nice crust and perfectly rare. We also had a few cocktails, which were strong but balanced. For dessert we had the limoncello cheesecake, grappa, and a lemoncello shot. The cheesecake wasn't bad but also nothing special-- but the grappa and shot were so good! Our server was Nelson. Very funny and charming guy. Service was slower like with any popular restaurant downtown but faster than other nice Italian places we've been. Our plates were cleared at a reasonable pace and Nelson checked in with us at the right moments. The dining room is large and gave us plenty of space to eat and talk comfortably. Decor is very minimal and classy, nothing distracting or alarming. Lighting is low, warm, and intimate. Overall, our visit was a very comfortable and smooth experience. 4 of use went to dinner Friday night. The restaurant was fairly busy. We ordered a round of drinks and it took 25 minutes before they came out. The waiter said the bar was busy. Not to sure about that. After that part of the problem was juggling our menu. Put on lap would slide right off. Table was too small to put them on it. Over all the table was too small for the 4 of us. Appetizers came out and we had to juggle things on the table again. The food was good but the restaurant is very loud. Even though it was not filled to capacity I had to talk uncomfortably loud for my table to hear me or for me to hear them. By the end of the evening my sister in law had to leave and sit outside while we were waiting for our check because her head was pounding from the noise. Over all I think it would be better to have a book style menu to decrease the size and some sound deadening material installed.Will we ever go back, probably not. Stuffed clams were shells filled with a soggy pile of breadcrumbs. The arrogant owner/manager told me I was wrong when I said my veal parm was actually chicken. Chicken and beef are pretty easy to differentiate so it was shocking that a man in the restaurant business insisted that a giant chicken breast was veal. The great waitress agreed. You can find better Italian in a can at the Jewel. Chef Boyardee has a leg up on this place. read more
