Beer selection is pretty good, not too pricey. Definitely don't miss your free pitcher on your birthday. Also a great spot to watch the UT games if you don't have a ticket. I love the Posse East. Great mix of old and young and in-between. I always get the XX on tap. Great burgers, tostadas and Queso. The food is cheap and sticks to your ribs. The beer is not very cheap but cold. The staff is familiar. Leave your pretension and anxiety at the door. Great for a beer or two or twelve after work with friends. A friend introduced me to this place. At first I was like, where the heck are you taking me? This looks like a road-house, the type that's full of rogue bikers who dislikes college of engineering students. But once I got inside it was a very cozy sports bar atmosphere. A place you wouldn't feel awkward eating by yourself or bringing a couple of friends to watch the game. The food was pretty good but only a very stereotypical array of selection. The burgers and fries will fill you up even though they might not sound like much. They're pretty laid back with the soda machine by putting it in the common area. Woot, free refills. Finally, the staff was very friendly, the food came out fast. All in all, it's an OK place to go to chillax for a bit, especially if you're stuck on campus for the day, hungry, and in need of a nice cold beer. read more

This place is awesome for a regular hang out after or inbetween your classes during the day, or if you want to stop in and grab a beer anytime just cause, it works just as well. The beer on tap is cheap and the service is quick, so its easy to get refills with no buzz kill. The food is better BAR (that is key here) food than most places, its hot its greasy and its worth the few bucks with your beers as a quick snack or a decent lunch. Also, if you want to watch a game with a TON of UT fangs, get there early and snag a table because the place gets overflowed with students. Some people may prefer right off the drag and some of the other hot spots, but I like Posse because if you are there you are in the mix with tons of screaming fans, but as soon as you walk out there is no crowd to fight since they are not 1 of say 4-6 bars all next to each other in a line read more

You know I have been here countless times, they have food and nice TV's. Its a great location with a pleasant wait staff. I also don' really know why I come back. Its a bit perplexing to me. Their beer specials are horrible, if they have them, you can walk literally 50 yards and pay less for higher quality beer. The outside seating is very comfortable, but you can just walk another block for better outdoor seating. The food isn't very good, again with the walking thing, its much better at the other place. I guess they have a private bathroom stall, that's kind of nice, i guess. The decor is pretty lame and one of the TV's constantly shows fox news. They usually play the audio for sports which is kind of nice depending on how much you want to watch it. They don't have any bar games such as pool, darts or shuffle board. They do have a few sporadic board games with half the pieces missing. So yeah I guess I don't really know why i go back. It is a kind of nice place to watch longhorn games, there is usually a crowd of people to cheer with and thats kind of fun but overall, I think i will be walking the extra block for my burger and beer. read more

This place is right outside where I work and has amazing food for a great price. They have plenty of outdoor seating, pleasant staff, and the food is consistently good. I'm so glad they've managed to stay open during COVID because I'm not sure what I would've done without them! I've been meaning to swing by for some drinks here but it can get a little crowded in peak times (Friday afternoon, Saturday eve, etc.), so I've mostly only had lunch or dinner on a weeknight. read more

If you're an engineering student at UT, chances are you come here fairly often. The owner is so friendly, and always remembered me and asked about my family and boyfriend even when I came back like a year or two after I graduated! This place was always good for a burger and a beer, onion rings too. I really miss hanging out here between or after classes. Ahh, college. The Posse East is deceptively close to the Erwin Center, making it a great spot to grab some brews before or after things like UTexas basketball games and big concerts. The food is mediocre, but not all together inedible and the prices are fair. They have burgers on the menu, and the taste varies but they are always filling. More importantly, they have pitchers of beer. LARGE pitchers of beer. And if you're like me, hanging out at a table sort of inside and outside like they have here, drinking cold beer is a good use of time. Good bar with good food! Ordered a cheeseburger with some fries on the side. Nothing out of this world, but the atmosphere made up for it! The selection of beers is big too. Tried the Austin Pearl Snap, and enjoyed it. Not a big beer drinker, but it was enjoyable! I like that there is plenty of patio space, especially since the weather in Austin is beautiful right now. Not at all like your typical chain restaurant burger place. It has a very nice chilled out vibe where you can eat awesome burgers and play old arcade games and board games. Thank god there are still places that have those. Sometimes they have live music as well but you have to check what days they have it. I already wrote my favourable review of Crown & Anchor, so now it's Posse's turn. This is the place I go near campus when I actually want to watch sports (NFL for me). They play the sound here, and have plenty of TVs that they will adjust to your game and volume. The staff is awesome: fast, friendly service and they accommodate people watching lots of different games. One time I left my wallet in the bathroom and they tracked me down before I left without it! The beer and food are cheap and totally serviceable. Their nachos are better than Crown & Anchor's. I often get a bison burger ($7) with fries. My husband loves the cheeseburger with sliced jalapenos ($6) and the seasoned Posse chips. I always see tons of people with the chips and salsa and the queso. The specials are good, with $2.50 pints of domestic beer until 7pm and some reduced snack prices. They also have other beer specials on different nights of the week. I rarely pay more than $3 for a pint here, and their regular prices are low. As a few other people have mentioned, the crowd here is not only students. You'd feel at home here if you were seventy or twenty-one. It's loud, but I've never seen anyone be obnoxious here, and I've never seen it overrun with frat guys. A very comfortable and chill place to watch a game in my experience. Advice: stick to "bar stuff" at this bar. My only bad experiences here have come from ordering fancy on-tap beer, which was oddly flat, probably because no one was ordering it, and from ordering a turkey sandwich (I wanted to be healthy!), which was extremely "meh." Go with the cheaper domestic beers and the bar food. That's what they do best. read more

My husband is a grad student and this has very quickly become our favorite happy hour spot near campus. The bartenders are great and nice, it's not too loud (still loud, it's a bar), there are great TVs for watching the game, good prices and highly underrated food. Seriously, I've never had anything that didn't taste good there. I discovered Posse on my first day at UT, and went there almost every other day for the rest of that semester. I love sitting on the covered patio on a cool evening. It's great as a bar, a place for getting work done, a place to hang out with friends. They also have a wall with board games, cards, books, etc. Their happy hour is from 2-7, so I like hitting it up after class. They have wifi so I can get work done as well! I'll say it: *Posse has improved my productivity at school*. Never thought I'd say that about a place like this. Being so close to UT's Engineering buildings, the likelihood of running into your professors after hours is extremely high. I hear there's a sandwich off the menu named after one of the mechanical engineering professors, 'the Benito', but I am yet to verify the authenticity of that. The food: Well, posse is one of those places where the food is cheap and greasy and pretty good for what it is. The burgers are pretty much the highlight of the menu, nothing else stands out. The fries are good, and the house potato chips are actually really quite good. The chicken nuggets are a must if you get a beer. They have good cheap beer on draught chilled perfectly and food that suits the beer. Ambiance: Posse has its own charm. The owner (see other reviews) is pretty awesome. Service is prompt and friendly. The people who frequent it are chill and friendly, mostly engineering students grad students and professors, locals. It tends to get busy on weekends and forget about getting a foot in the door when there's a game. The bad: the menu really isn't that good. They could do with more variety. Why did I give it 5 stars? Honestly, I haven't found another place like it. Posse is just a really cool place to hang out. The best thing I like about this place is it's so close to campus but in a much quieter and more relaxed area than the Drag. They have a mid-sized range of beers on tap. The ambiance is pretty nice and casual (esp. the outdoor seating which I like). They have trivia on some days of the week. The food is not so great though. We ordered fish and chips or a fish burger once, don't remember what, because it was very unmemorable. The only thing I eat regularly here are the beef nachos. That's good, but even that is sometimes cold. Service is nice and prompt. Overall, it's one of my favourite places to chill with friends, mainly because of the atmosphere. read more

Aaaaah... College. For me this is one of those places where, as a Longhorn, I leave with that acute nostalgia for my alma mater. Burger is really subpar. Fries have that coating that has the texture of a dirty floor. The bud light is 2.50 a bottle, not bad. The decor is puke orange. The only three things I liked were the bball games on TV, the bones of the building and the burger toppings set up. read more

I heart Posse. I went there a lot while at UT and occasionally stop by with some friends now that I've graduated. To be honest, I go for the atmosphere and for a good time with good friends. Posse is a laid back bar without pretenses where different groups of students and alums congregate to enjoy a few beers or lunch. The food won't knock your socks off, but it's decent. The beer selection isn't the most extensive, but it's decent and the prices are better than Crown and Anchor, down the street. We visited hours before the LSU-Texas game and definitely had a great vibe and atmosphere. We sat on the patio and had DKR in our sights from our seats. Went to UT for grad school just down the road from Posse East, but never ate here back then -- always did Crown & Anchor, instead. But today we ventured out after the UT game kick off, just cuz it's so close & I was craving a burger, and I haven't been too impressed by the other local Austin burger places I've tried... My cheeseburger was pretty darn decent -- the meat was just okay, the burger overall a little salty -- but man, their array of condiments is pretty impressive, so with the perfectly-spicy-pico added to my burger, it got bumped to pretty darn good. I vote 4 stars b/c their fries are exactly how I like them -- crunch outside w/ a little texture (i have no idea what does that, but I love it), not mushy on the inside; I don't know how much salt, if any, was on there, either, but they didn't need anything added. Loved their onion rings too -- the big kind (but not ginormous) with the breaded/crumbly coating, yum. Since we went after the UT kick-off, it was pretty empty tonight -- more people out on the porch than in, and that was a handful at best, so we had our pick of tables & views of all the tvs -- that was pretty nice. More people started filtering in around the 3rd quarter, filling up the patio & spilling into their indoor dining area, so it was getting a little crowded. Overall, good laid back atmosphere, just like you want a good burger place to feel -- lotsa wood, kinda grubby-but-not-grubby-b/c-its-clean feel? I don't know, but I like it. I love this place. It isn't classy, and this isn't a place to bring a date. This is the place you go after work to have a beer. It's totally unassuming, casual, hella good cheese fries, and cheap pitchers of cheap beer. It's exactly what I want on Friday afternoon to unwind. Seating is in an outdoor "patio" type situation, basically picnic tables in a glorified tent. "The Game" will be on the tv, and everybody just goes to be themselves and hang out with friends.
