A few friends and I headed to The Tavern for the Super Bowl Watch Party 2026. The Tavern has been an Austin icon for over a century. It has a warm pub feel with dark wood bars and lots of windows. It was the perfect venue for us. When we arrived it wasn't too crowded and the service was fast and friendly. There are screens all over the place and the clientele is all ages. I'd have to say, it's a fun hang out place and the food is pretty good too. I had the buffalo wings, which I had been craving and they were yum. This pub is over a hundred years old! The original woodwork inside is incredibly well preserved. It's outside is in German Alpine style, you can't miss it. We went yesterday for the Arsenal (soccer) watch party. It was almost full but we were able to grab a table by the door. She got a shiner cheers for $8 and I got a beautifully poured Guinness draught stout for $8 and we started with the bar pretzels with mustard and queso. They were really good with croissant like flakes and we both really enjoyed the cheese and mustard. We were thinking of getting the stroganoff and asked the waitress what her favorite dish was and ironically she mentioned that without knowing which way we were already leaning. It was really good...the sauce, the mushrooms, the steak....mmmm. They have buckets of domestics for $15 so we got one of those as well. The service was pretty solid overall. Started a little slow to get our first order but she was stopping by every few minutes after that and was friendly and helpful. Any place that will make my dog a scrambled egg is a-ok in my book. Whenever we go to Pease Park we like to swing by for a bite to eat. It's a neighborhood sports bar with large screen everywhere so if you're there to catch a game, you'll not miss a thing. We primarily go because we love the old school neighborhood vibe. It's just always welcoming. Lots of bars have great food and drinks but The Tavern ranks high in the ratings for comfort food. The portions are enough for two to share and the prices are really reasonable. Some of my favorite things are the classic house salad wrap, it's literally a salad in a wrap that you can also get with either grilled or friend chicken. The Tavern Burger is a classic cheeseburger and it's served on a homemade potato bun. Southern Chicken Salad is huge with generous servings of chicken pieces. Surprisingly, the veggies were the best part of the dish. The original server just refilled water for one person at our table. That was it. Weird part was at the end. She literally stopped us as we were leaving asking about a tip. I was honestly confused. The online app did not itemize the receipt so I assumed tip had been included. She insisted we go back to look at the tab, but it had disappeared as I'd paid it a half hour earlier. I gave her a $20 just to get out of there. What hit me later is that she did virtually nothing. We ordered online. Other people brought our food. If she had taken our order herself and brought our food, the tip would've been more appropriate. If she had given me a receipt where I could see charges and itemizations, and if she had actually served us, she would've gotten a better tip. read more

The two of them made comments and looked our way, which was uncomfortable and unnecessary in front of other customers. I understand tipping is part of the service industry, but we did tip, and I would've appreciated more professionalism. A good restaurant experience shouldn't come with being made to feel singled out for how much you leave. Came to The Tavern to watch a Texas Football game. It was very hot and muggy in the restaurant there is not good AC or air circulation due to the age of the building. However, they have tons of TV screens which is good for watching sports. We sat at a table in the bar area and had drinks and appetizers. The bar was able to make me a few mezcal margaritas and the drinks we a good value and tasty for the price. We had appetizers while watching the game including the pretzel with cheese and stone ground mustard which was served warm and was a good bar snack with appropriate dipping sauces. Also has the potato skins served with cheese, bacon, chives and sour cream and were a good texture. Overall, I think this historical establishment is a great place to watch sporting events and enjoy cocktails and bar snacks. The Tavern is a sports bar in Austin, TX that is home to Kansas City Chiefs, Texans, Arsenal, and Barcelona games. They offer plenty of TVs to watch the games and plenty of seating. It is two stories and has a patio outside with tables, TVs, and heaters too. I ordered the Mahomes fries and the tavern white wings. The Mahomes fries were great topped with bbq brisket and jalapeños. The Tavern white wings were boneless chicken wings wrapped in bacon and jalapeños in buffalo sauce, you get 8 of them. I felt the wings were a little to saucy but they were different and haven't had boneless wings like this before. The service was great there were always three plus people at the bar to take your drink or food orders. I would definitely recommend it for a place to go to watch a game or grab a drink. read more
