Post Office is a cool spot in Babylon that's somewhat hard to spot from the street. The ambiance and the service were great, but the food and drinks were mediocre. I would consider coming back only because I know the owner has a reputation for having quality in his food, drinks and employees. Tired of sushi and not wanting to spend a ton of money on a big, fancy dinner, Post Office Cafe seemed like a good place to go on a Sunday evening ... however this is in the same chain as The Library Cafe so I'm not sure why I subjected myself to this loud noise yet again. We went to this place on a game day. Again, it was hard to hear over the televisions and the yelling. I ordered shrimp tacos, which were good, but I felt like they could have come up with something better than a plain wrap that you would make your turkey sandwich with. The atmosphere is a bit unpleasant and trumps the goodness of the food. Last time I came to this bar, I ordered a salad. The dressing had so much vinegar in it I almost choked. It completely overpowered the salad. I'm glad I gave this place a second chance but I don't think I'd come back here for dinner. read more

Rarely do I update a restaurant but my last experience at the Post office left me SOOO let down. We went here last night for a quick Mother's Day bite. Clearly, it was busy but not PACKED as you sometimes see it. We were seated at 7:00 and waited 10 minutes for the waitress to come. She took drink orders and appetizer orders. At 7:20, I had asked where our drinks were. They came right after that. At 7:30 I had to ask where our appetizers were. They came right after my reminder. Our meals came at 7:45. They were simply mediocre. If this was my first experience with the Post Office, I WOULD NOT come back. Our waitress told us how busy it is, which we do understand but they service was TERRIBLE and the restaurant was not packed that there should have been such a delay for food as well. As I said, I wouldn't come back if this was my first experience. I'm local to Babylon and will be trying to get a new go-to spot going forward. Disappointed. read more

The menu is, literally, to a tee, the same menu as that of the Library Cafe. It is also the same menu as Lessing's other restaurant, Maxwell's. I know this not because I have ever eaten at Maxwell's, but because the menu I was handed at the Post Office Cafe said "Maxwell's" on the front, crossed off in pen. Classy touch, Post Office Cafe management. I gave the Post Office Cafe 3 stars instead of whatever I gave the Library Cafe (I think I gave them 5) because I am miffed, miffed I tell you, that the menu is entirely the same. Why not just call this a chain and get over it? I was rather fond of Lessings, which owns all of these restaurants, until I realized the fraud they are parlaying on an unsuspecting public. Having been to the Library Cafe (terrific) and Mirabelle Tavern (sumptuous), I wanted to check out Post Office Cafe. But it's just another name for the same old thing. At least I know the Library Cafe used to be an actual library. Was the Post Office Cafe ever a post office? I would ask the people who manage it, but knowing what I do now about their menu, I wouldn't believe them, whatever they told me. I had the North Fork grilled cheese, sans tomato and arugula, and french waffle fries. It was as well made as it so often is at the Library Cafe, but it had a little extra ingredient I couldn't quite identify at first, but now I know is the taste of betrayal by the Lessings corporation as they try to pawn off the same restaurant as several different ones. I came here expecting a small pub but the Post Office is way more than that. Its a full bar that is way bigger in the inside than it appears driving up. On a Sunday afternoon I was surprised on how packed it was. If you come in through the back, they have a large room that was holding a baby shower. If you come in through the front, you walk into the bar/restaurant portion of the place. I loved the atmosphere of the Post Office. Really cool place with a diverse crowd but the reason I have to give it three stars is the food issue. Let me say this; the bar tending was great, the beer selection wasn't bad, and the prices are moderate. The issue I have is I order the chicken wrap with a side salad and requested it as a sandwich instead of the wrap. They had no problem customizing my order but something didn't sit well. The sandwich was dry and the pico served on top couldn't even help. I finished the food, with some help of ketchup but that night I had horrible stomach issues. Without getting to graphic, and trust me you don't want to know what I did, I was sick as a dog. The only thing I had for the entire weekend not cooked by myself was that lunch. I obviously can't for sure say it was the chicken sandwich but I can say I won't be eating here anytime soon. I will however come back for drinks if I am in the area. read more

Therefore, if you look like crap and aren't in the mood to run into someone from your long lost high school past, you probably should NOT go here. Nor Mary Carrolls, Horace and Sylvia's, or anywhere else in Babylon. My brother's rehearsal dinner was held here, as well as my 10 year high school reunion. Appetizers were served at each event. Although the selection wasn't huge, what was served was pretty good. The cajan style shrimp was my favorite, as well as the terriayki chicken on sticks. I've eaten at the P.O. Cafe a handful of times but my experience there lastnight takes the cake with the all time WORST service I've ever experienced anwhere! In ordering my first drink of the night, I specifically told the waitress that I wanted a Bloody Mary not too spicy. She did say that the mix was pre-made but not "too spicy". When I took the first sip of my drink it was super spicy, and my friends agreed after trying it. When I told the waitress that it was too spicy and asked her nicely for another drink she told me "Well I'll tell the manager but I dont know if they'll take it off the bill!" REALLY? So, the manager's response to my requesting another drink wasn't "sure we'll take it off the bill and you can have another drink" it was "We'll try and fix it first" Um OK? Isn't your job to make the customer happy? And as far as my meal was concerned, the shrimp were way over cooked! Never again, grumpy ass waitress and a manager who isn't trying to make her customers happy apparently. read more

Went for an early dinner on Saturday and it was just OK. The place is seriously loud. Not only from the people but they have the tv's blaring. Yes, it was the football playoffs which I totally understand, but seriously, I was at a booth outside of the bar area and had to shout to speak with my co-diners. Service was very good - very prompt waitress, cocktails were delicious and generous. We started with a couple of appetizers - chicken quesadilla, soup of the day (zucchini with cheese on this day), baked clams. All good - not to die for, but good. We then went with burgers. I opted for the chipotle bbq burger which was really good but light on the bbq sauce - our server brought over extra. Hubby went with the bacon cheese burger - good - cooked to temperature requested. The bun on these burgers, in my opinion, is too thick and dry. Too much bread, I wound up taking the top bun off. Also I couldn't believe the amount of raw red onions that was stacked on the burger and salad - it was obscene. If anyone ate all of those onions, they'd stink for a week! Desserts we had were molten lava cake with ice cream and a banana chocolate empanada. Both were good. All in all it was good - not fantastic - but good. Not really highly recommended if you're looking for a quiet dinner but it seems like a fun place for a group of friends. read more

This review is strictly for restaraunt only- I didn't go to the bar section. LOCATION: Went here the other night, this was my first time in the babylon area. The town area is so cute. Lots of bars nearby. DECOR: Loved the inside, very old fashioned and decorative. Wood walls and floors with antiques and decorations hanging on the walls. High ceilings add a nice touch as well. Little white candles on the tables were comforting. FOOD: Ordered boneless buffalo wings and mozzarella sticks. Very impressed, food came out pretty quickly and was hot and fresh tasting. Delicious mozzarella sticks, very stringy and cheesy. I chose regular hot buffalo wings and it was perfect amount of spiceyness for me (but there were options of mild and hot as well). The PO is my favorite bar in Babylon. Friendly staff, decent pub grub, and great drinks. Extensive beers on tap, I recommend giving the Lessing's local brews a shot, they have a flagship blonde and usually a seasonal as well (the Oktoberfest was stellar). Their big event every October is the Post Office 5K run with proceeds going to the MPS Society. Hundreds of people run, then stay around for prizes, drinks, and food. It's a fantastic event and a cause especially dear to the owners' hearts. read more

I have heard many good things about this place, and thats why I decided to try it. First, the service was sub par. It was extremely busy though. The food took extremely long, and all we had ordered was salads and pretzel bites. Quite unnecessary. The wine selection was good, I was impressed with that. The prices are also fair. I had a caeser salad with shrimp. It was very fair. The dressing was too creamy for me, but I'm kind of picky with that. Based on all the good reviews and some suggestions from friends, I was excited to experience the Post Office Cafe. It's nice, if you like lots of TVs everywhere and lots of people everywhere. The atmosphere is very sports bar-ish trying to blend with a cozy pub. It's way more on the sports bar meets family eatery side of things though. Not bad, just not what we expected. Plus there was a thirty-something birthday party going on behind our booth, which was quite loud and didn't add to the atmosphere. The food was tasty and they have amazing Root Beer Floats, if you're not in the mood to take advantage of their fabulous beer selection. We had the Wings and pulled pork sandwich, which were good, but nothing boom-wow. All in all, The Post Office Cafe is a fun joint with plenty of televisions to keep track of any game. Went there with Jen S. and two friends. Split spinach dip, buffalo chicken empanadas, and southwestern chicken spring rolls. Everyone seemed to enjoy them. I enjoyed all 3 of them. Admittedly, I was hungry, so food tastes better. We all ordered sandwiches/burgers. There was a medium rare marinated sliced steak sandwich that was missing the medium. It wasn't mine, so not a full mark off for me. I mean that's their review unless I had to hear about it more than twice. I had a Po Boy with waffle fries. I definitely enjoyed it. The ketchup seemed a little off. Maybe it was because they reuse the bottles or maybe it was because I haven't been using Heinz at home. That's for you to decide. Best little hidden jewel in Babylon. On one side this place can be a cool hangout for drinks with friends, but on the other you can bring the kids and have lunch in the dining area. They also have live music at times. Their fries are very good and I never had a bad experience here. When I came home to visit my mom and I would have lunch here. I also brought my boyfriend here when we first started dating and he loved it. Can be busy at times but if you go before the dinner rush (or just avoid happy hour) you're golden. read more

I've been a patron of the Post Office Cafe in Babylon for many, many years. And they never disappoint. This past week my kids and I ordered their family style meal for pick up. We're a family of 5 but we ordered the 4 person meal. Not only was the food delicious, there was plenty for my 4 grown kids as well as myself. And we had leftovers!! This was a great deal for our family and so easy to get. This was such good food and such a great deal we are sending the PO family style meals to our friends who have sick family members. Nightlife update! On a weekend night, wow does it get crowded. People stand alongside the bar and quickly fill up the space dividing into the restaurant. They have a good selection of music playing and you'll see the poor workers hustling and bustling through the person-to-person crowds. I found myself in a much older crowd which I wasn't expecting. It was pretty difficult to get through from one side of the place to the other. So prepare yourself to do some acrobats that night. Other than that, it's a fun lively place with good drinks and beers on tap. A blue moon cost $6, pretty average. It's a place I could find myself again and hopefully next time I'll get there a tad bit earlier. Also, no dance floor but people disregard that and make their own. read more

Smithwick's is a beautiful beer, and it was $3/bottle for the entirety of March. It's been a week since my last taste and I'm totally craving it. I wish I had gone here more for that. They seem to have a great beer selection, and those nachos with chili....holy cow. By far the most intense I've ever had as far as portions of EVERYTHING on top. I was sad to leave the Post office Cafe behind when I moved out of NY. This was my go-to place for taking visiting friends, my dad's hard-to-please wife and significant other. POC has a really great low-key vibe that is both intimate and fun - it's really mellow for a low-key but nice dinner with friends, romantic enough for date night, and nice enough for those times when you want to treat yourself. And yet not unaffordable - nice place to eat with a reasonable price point (think a bit above your average diner.) Word of advice - it's worth it because the food is so damn good, but give yourself extra time for dinner...the service can be slooooooooooowww (more so some nights over others, but I usually count on it.) Personal favorites - the Marinated Skirt Steak. Perfectly wrapped around the mashed potatoes so they soak up all the delicious steak juice and marinade flavoring, ahhhh.....It's a big portion though, good for sharing...or for bringing leftovers to work the following day. Potato Skins - Big thick cuts of potato, all loaded up with (this is sooo important to me haha) generous amounts of cheese. Again, a heavy portion...I'm not too good at sharing these though lol. read more

Absolutely incredible meal. From the hostess being kind to their wonderful server Gabby being fantasic, everything was wonderful. For drinks my fiance has the stella on tap and I had the rum runner. The drinks were fresh and delicious. Our food was fresh, delicious, and hot. For appetizers we had the spinach and artichoke dip and the pretzel flight. For our entrees we had the Killer mac and cheese with the pulled pork added on the side and the cali blt with coleslaw. Everything was exceptional. The decor was puby and cute. The first time I was here was in the 1970's when it was a wild pub with bands playing and fights broke out all over like a wild west movie. My friend was seeing a member of the band, so they snuck us out the rear of the building. It left a bad taste in my mouth and I never returned until my daughter wanted to meet me there for lunch. I tried to explain what I remembered, but it has mellowed with time to a lovely dining experience. They do have a bar, but I swear, I didn't see anyone smashed over the head with a chair. The food was delicious, I had salad and grilled chicken and later my daughter, son and I raved over our dishes. I was happy to go there for the occasion and am happy they have changed with time, as we all have. I'd love to go back again. read more

This is one of my go to spots after work. When i need a bar i come here by default for bar food & drinks. This restaurant is part of the Lessings brand and they all relatively have the same menu items. The inside is very loud by the bar, and the bar area is one little walk way that can barely fit two people walking past. That being said they have a decent beer selection. I always try to sit at a booth. The waitresses are friendly for the most part. There are a few that really make your experience great. They have good specials mon-fri and brunch on Sunday which isn't bad. You can check the specials on their website. Food Review: They have a really good selection of appetizers from wings, to a really good artichoke dip to loaded tater tots. Their salads are humongous and can be shared by two. They make a juicy burger (one of my fav) and each burger choice can satisfy the toughest critics. All the prices are reasonable from $10-$25 roughly. So for anyone that just wants to sit down relax and enjoy the tvs, good service and solid food menu; this is definitely the place to be in Babylon. At night, it becomes over crowded with plaid shirts and meat heads, cranking the dance music to the point of screaming to order a drink, oh and there's no dance floor so... I ordered a beer and I got a Gin & Coke... I watched the bartender make it. I have never even heard of a Gin & Coke. they don't belong together EVER. I was so excited to try this place but unfortunately the food wasn't good at all. Me and my boyfriend got tacos the fish and chicken- it tasted like the chicken was reheated in a microwave. In all of the dishes that had it- the nachos and egg rolls and tacos. Everything was very bland. I think it all lacked seasoning and didn't taste fresh. I hosted a bridal shower there this past weekend and the entire staff was amazing, Asia helped me coordinate the event and switch dates when I booked this in February of 2020 and honored everything that was in the contract, there were no surprises! The room was beautiful, the food was prompt and delicious and the entire staff was so helpful assembling our decor, cleaning up, making sure the bride was fed and comfortable. They even packed up food for her to take off. My guest were so impressed on how diligent and accommodating the staff was and how delicious the brunch was! read more

Waitress was very inattentive. Our food (steak sandwich ) came out ICE COLD ....waitress didn't give a shit didn't apologize just got her manager who said "ok we'll reheat it" once again no apology. We honestly were so grossed out we just left. We had a calamari appetizer and they still charged us ..... bathrooms were dirty and had no working locks on the stalls. Place is just not good there's better places in the area. I get people have bad days but to not even be apologetic in the service industry is pretty shitty. read more

I often visit the Post Office Cafe for dinner with my family. The food is very good (only had 1 sub par meal during many visits), the service is EXCELLENT, the atmosphere is great and waits are usual minimal even during busy times. I recommend the burrito bowl or the fish tacos, both excellent. Be sure to sign up for the rewards card b/c I usually save $10-20 every third trip or so. read more
