This is a fantastic diner. Perhaps the friendliest service I've ever encountered. The (Utah) scones are amazing. Different from traditional scones, Utah scones are a yeasted dough that are deep fried. Piled with honey butter, I'd forgotten how much I loved them. We also ordered a blueberry fritter, which was a scone filled with blueberry filling before being deep fried. It was delicious. Not that their biscuits and gravy were bad, but I prefer my own biscuits. Theirs are a bit on the dry side. The gravy is perfect though. My daughter had a fried chicken sandwich which she liked, but she thought the fries weren't the best. In fairness, her fries were takeout and fries don't always travel well. I saw this place on one of the food shows and said I should give them a try. This a typical old style diner complete with stools at the counter and several tables and booths. The service was very good we were seated and provided with water almost immediately. I order tomato juice and my wife ordered coffee. They have a nice menu with many choices. My wife ordered a scone and a side of bacon. I ordered the SOS on toast and one fried egg. The egg was good and cooked correctly. The SOS on the other hand was terrible. No meat or if there was it was ground so fine you couldn't find it. The SOS had way too much pepper which gave it an off taste. The scone was great but the bacon tasted like it had been sitting in grease under warming lights. We will give them another try and get something different read more

Honestly i was disappointed after reading all the hype reviews on this place. 2 stars because the service was really good. The food was disappointing, i ordered steak and eggs with hashbrowns extra crispy. It came with their version of a "scone" which is fry bread with a mound of butter on top, it was good but only for 2 bites then it was too doughy. The steak was not a great cut, very chewy and fatty. They put the steak and eggs on top of the hash browns that were not cooked extra crispy so they ended up soggy the minute I went to eat them. For $18 plus tax and almost $4 for a cup of coffee, i wish the quality was better. The restaurant is pretty small which makes it very loud when full, it was pretty uncomfortable when I was alone trying to relax and enjoy my meal, nothing the restaurant staff can do about that but it does get crowded if you're not into larger crowded spaces. read more

**TIP: There is a sign inside that requests that you send in one person from your party to put your name on their list and then to wait in your vehicle for them to call/text. The inside is very small with little to no lobby, so servers have to weave around any people standing and waiting. We were there this morning, on a Saturday, and the place was slammed. Even with people arriving non-stop, the hostess and all of the servers were very friendly and attentive. The whole place had a nice atmosphere. We were able to order shortly after we were seated and our server brought our scones with honey butter to eat while we were waiting for our food. Which arrived shortly after that. We hadn't been in for several years and were very happy with everything we had. I had chicken fried steak, which was very good and the side of hash browns were just the right amount of crispy. My husband had a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns, which he enjoyed as well. He also ordered a sweet roll the size of a dinner plate and was covered in an ample amount of good-flavored frosting. First, the staff was amazing. In true diner fashion the staff was buzzing around the restaurant serving, seating, cleaning and making everything look so smooth and controlled. They were super attentive and very nice. Secondly, the scone...This thing was huge and came with an ice cream scoop sized serving of honey butter. There were three of us at our table and it was a good size for the three of us (factoring in we all ordered meals) however, I saw several tables where people ordered one for each person and they ate the whole thing so maybe we were just the light weights:). Boy, did I pick the wrong day to start a diet. As soon as I saw those ridiculous scones, I knew that the healthy food would have to wait for another day. I have no regrets and I happily stand by my decision. My friend and I opted to sit at the counter so we could get right to it-all the tables were full and people were waiting to be seated. After we confirmed that nobody else wanted to sit there, we hungrily bellied up to the bar. Service was a little hit or miss-likely because it was packed inside and perhaps when the staff go behind the counter, they have full focus on gathering food for the tables. We did get someone's attention and were able to place our orders-but coffee refills also required us to ask. The food was pretty good-I had eggs, sausage and hashbrowns. Those alone were ok, but the scone is what sold the meal for me. It's giant, it's delicious and it's just shameful. Maybe not complete shame, since I only ate half of it and took the rest to go. Came here on a friend's recommendation; she grew up eating here so I thought maybe she had nostalgia glasses on when she was talking about it but she did not, this food is GOOD. Classic diner picks and not too pricey, friendly service/environment, and the flavor was so on point. The scone wasn't too greasy and the hash browns were crispy on top with a soft middle. Had some family come down so we meet them for breakfast. When we first arrived I knew the place was good just by the number of people in the parking lot. When we got inside the main reason besides the good food was the size of the place. It was quite small. We had a party of 8 but were still seated quickly by the hostess who was super nice. The server was also supper happy for that early in the morning. The food was great and the portions were large. One of our party had a pancake that was about 14" and hung over the plate. She had to eat it from the inside out. It was recommended to try the scones so we did and they were amazing. They put a huge scoop of honey butter on the middle so if you don't like that much I would recommend telling them to put it on the side. Everything was great and tasty. Passing through SLC on our way back to California, and being a SLC native, I wanted an Utah scone doused in butter and honey. We diverted our route to take us through Layton so we could swing by Sill's to get scones to go. So glad we did. The scones were perfection. My family went here for lunch and every single one of us loved it! It is such a cute little cafe that has the best service and best scones! We didn't have much of a wait and once we ordered it felt like our food was out in less than 5 minutes (for 6 people!) their staff was really nice and I loved the old esthetic look of the cafe. Our food was delicious. I got the Boss's platter and it was big and came with a delicious scone. My sister got a different breakfast plate that also came with a scone. My dad and sister got a cheeseburger that was big in size and came with fries or tots. And my mom got some kind of sandwich that I don't remember. Absolutely delicious breakfast, even worth a drive out from Salt Lake if you're so inclined. My friend and I each got breakfast combos, he got a scone with honey butter and I got pancakes. Both tasted amazing and portions were great. The "small" pancakes that came with my combo were what other places would call regular sized. Service was wonderful, our server was fun and helpful, and she got our food to us very quickly. The decor and ambiance was typical of a small town diner. This restaurant has been a go-to spot for breakfast in my family for many years. They get super busy on the weekends, so we have tried to plan our visits to be during the weekdays or off-peak meal times in order to get a seat in a timely manner. We used to go to their much smaller location on Main Street many years ago, and continue to enjoy their yummy breakfast options in this newer location on Gentile. On my latest visit, I ordered the Boss Breakfast. I tried some of the S.O.S. this time but found that I didn't care much for the strong sagelike flavor in the gravy. It seemed to be overshadowing the other great flavors of the meal including the hashbrowns, eggs, cheese, and bacon. In addition, I substituted the elephant ear scone with honey butter for the toast. I love the scones and always make sure to get one. I love eggs and always favor ordering breakfast fare here. This is the Mom & Pop, greasy spoon diner you wish you had in your hometown. We were visiting a friend near Hill AFB and Yelped breakfast places. Sill's Cafe piqued our interest so we decided to check it out. Around 8:30 on a Saturday morning it was hopping. We were seated quickly, although there were just two larger booths open after we got our smaller table for 4. The counter seating was full! As I said, this is a local place that obviously has its regulars chatting with other diners and the staff. We were treated no differently, the staff were so friendly and we never had to ask for anything as they did a great job checking up on us and refilling our coffees. The menu is full of straightforward, stick to your ribs, good American diner food. As soon as I saw the SOS I stopped looking at the menu. My dad got me into SOS when he told me that's what they'd get served regularly in the military. I was hooked after he told me what SOS stood for. Lol! My husband got the Boss's Breakfast which I did not get a picture of because he plowed right into it. He did share the scone with me and it was delicious and different. You HAVE to order a scone if you eat here. That was the highlight of our meal! It is not your typical scone. It is light, slightly crispy, kind of pastry-like and when you take a bite with the melted honey butter on it, you will smile!
