It took me a long time to finally try Potbelly Sandwich Shop. My first couple of tries were via delivery. I don't think I fully figured out how to get the condiments I wanted so those experience weren't the best. But, I finally wandered in with my parents who are big fans and was able customize my order appropriately. It was good! Their sandwiches are exclusively toasted. They offer a variety of specialty sandwiches as well as the ability to build your own. They have a couple types of bread (white and multigrain). The set up is like this: You step to the end of the counter and order the type of sandwich you'd like. That person gets the sandwich started and in the toaster. You then move to the next person who takes the sandwich out of the oven and adds any condiments and toppings you may like. Their toppings aren't as expansive as some other sandwich shops but are plentiful enough that they'll build a good sandwich. I love that the avocado is cut fresh to add to your sandwiches (not a bin of pre mashed). Then off to the cash register to pay. My husband loves that they have milkshakes. They have a few basic flavors and then usually have some sort of seasonal as well. For me, I typically order the tuna and swiss with avocado added. It's not a local, artisanal sandwich shop or deli. I have been to the location on 124th and Capitol , Milwaukee several times since its close to me . Generally when you go instore the service is ok because you are there to correct errors . However whenever i order online , there is a mistake with the order . Most often im in a hurry to go to work so generally overlook it if the extra item i order is not included . Today i ordered a Salad and Chilli and was in a hurry to pick up the food , however my order was not fulfilled ; the store clerk was clueless as to whether i even ordered anything . So this was my first time in a Potbelly for almost two years and based on this latest experience, it will likely be at least another two years (or longer if I can help it). First I get there and there is live music being played at a volume that I had a hard time hearing the staff trying to take my order. I finally found a small lull in the racket to place my order: tuna and Swiss cheese sandwich - should be a very simple thing... I was then directed to go to the counter to pay; which I did. Then I waited at the side of the counter with a closed bag of chips and a can of coke and waited for my sandwich to come. All the while people (in line behind me) were all able to get their sandwiches and drinks, and pay and sit down - as I kept waiting. After minutes of this, the staff finally noticed I was still there (waiting) and asked what I was waiting for. I told them, I was waiting for the sandwich I ordered and they were making. Well, it seems they lost my sandwich (or forgot to make it; or gave it to someone else). They then asked me what did I order. I told them it was tuna sandwich with Swiss cheese. I answered this question 3 times with different staff before I (finally) decided to cut my loses and go. I asked for a refund; the employee told me I would have to wait for a manager. And wait I did, before I finally giving up, taking my receipt and leaving. I suppose now it is on me to contact my credit card company for a refund (so happy I did not pay in cash). To put it mildly it was frustrating experience dealing with sloppy (and/or forgetful) staff for what I already expect to be a mediocre dining experience. Sadly, the time I lost there meant I had to return to work without lunch. Long story short I was contacted about it and the individual who contacted me truly went out of their way to ensure I would have a better experience next time - even though I was quite adamant about not returning. As a result, I decided I'd give the same place another try and was much happier with my visit. I went an additional time after that to clear the tie breaker (1 good experience ,1 bad) and was quite happy with that visit too. The veggie toppings don't taste artificial and retain an excellent crunch to contrast the tenderness of the meat, which seems to be of a much superior quality compared to other fast sub shops. The bread is nice and toasty and doesn't get soggy or smell gross (Subway). The hot peppers give every sandwich a serious amount of heat as well. The big sandwiches are super filling and definitely hit the spot for my post-Adventure Rock meal. read more

Food is good. For years I haven't been able to find a deli that sells chicken salad sandwiches that weren't made with something weird like Miracle Whip, apricots, raisins, etc.. The service leaves something to be desired. The staff is often curt, and dismissive. Twice in a row out of three visits, they've managed to make a mistake in my order. The second time I politely asked for this to be rectified. They didn't seem overly concerned with making sure I was made happy and didn't offer an apology on behalf of the store. Potbellys was the Friday work lunch. I had the Italian with hot peppers. First thing it was a warm sub. The bread was toasted with a nice crunch on the out side. This is a messy sub by the way. The sub was cut in half, see my picture of the close up. For just under $8.00 I noticed very little meat and cheese on this sub. I took the first bite and it was very tasty and juicy. The sub is 95% bread and vegetables which is a shame because when you think of a sub you think about a meaty sandwich. I'm not going to knock it because It was good but it has the least amount of meat compared to other chains. See my picture of jersey mikes on miller parkway because this is what a sub should be. Over all it was good and and I would give four stars but the skimpy amount of meats compared to other chains for the same price took a star away. Every one at work likes the subs they had. I've never seen another fountain soda machine that has zero caffeine-free soda choices. There's a lemonade, but it's sugar free by default. Huh? No Sprite or Sierra Mist, orange or root beer. Sure, they sell bottles of some of those, but they're more expensive, and sometimes you just want a fountain drink, you know? Very weird. I like Potbelly sandwiches. They're good for chain stuff. The meat is really salty though; I'm always thirsty afterward. The bacon is Nueske's if that's your thing. The hot peppers are delicious, especially on the Italian sandwich. Service is usually friendly at most Potbelly's, but sometimes you'll have a long wait to pay for your food even after the sandwich is in your hands. The system with the shakes/soups doesn't always work and that leads to cashiers making those things and ignoring the line of people, especially during slower times when there's always too few people working. Meh. Won't keep me from going there, but it sure can be eyeroll-inducing when no one cares that you've been waiting 5 minutes to pay with 4 whole customers in the building. read more

I love potbellies and this is a nice location. The staff is always very friendly and even crack a few jokes with you when the line is going out the door. I always get a big wreck on white and it's very good every time. But the main reason I come here is for the dream bars. They really are a dream! Chocolatey caramel crumble goodness. I love them. I also like that during lunches they have a local musician playing in the dinning room. It's a little something extra that I haven't seen at other "fast food" sandwich shops. I have been here twice. First time I paid for extras on my sandwich that I did not get. Second time I was handed the wrong sandwich- ordered a skinny and apparently he made it a big. I questioned why my sandwich was $10- twice as much as a skinny and the cashier said that's a big. I did not order a big. Well you have a big. Not sure how I was supposed to know that as it was handed to me unmarked in a brown bag and I didn't really notice it was bigger than it should have been. He took it from me and rudely asked me to repeat my toppings. They remade it and I paid and the cashier could not have been ruder. Potbelly's is one my favorite chain sandwich shops. This one is nice because they are fast (when they say eight minutes they honestly mean it) and friendly. They work hard to meet speed with quality. I really enjoy the mushroom melt. It is an awesome go to sandwich when I do not know what I want eat. I also like to pair the sandwich with an chocolate oatmeal cookie which are amazingly soft and chewy. They also have a great loaded potato soup. Asked cashier if she needed email for BOGO. She told me I needed App for that. No where in the Rewards Program or email did it state that I needed App. Only reason went there was for the BOGO.
