Standard Potbelly location which reliably makes tasty hot sandwiches and other items such as shakes and soups at a reasonable price. This spot is fairly efficient so my wait times have been fairly reasonable when I make a visit here. The sandwich construction is generally pretty good, with a fairly consistent flavor. Parking is fairly plentiful here, though the shopping center can get quite busy so it may not be that easy to park super close to the restaurant (in front of here is a fairly spacious walkway, so you can't park super close to begin with). The interior is fairly standard for a Potbelly, comfortable enough to enjoy your sandwich but not necessarily somewhere where you'd sit around for a long time for a chat -- though having cookies, ice cream, and other side options does provide extra things to casually eat after the main sandwhich. My husband and I went to Potbelly to get lunch. We got the roast beef and provolone sandwich, garden vegetable soup and oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. The servers were friendly and helped us get our food just the way we wanted it. We took the food to go and ate it at home. The food was still hot when it got home and I ate it and the soup didn't spill on the trip either. The food is exactly what I would expect from a Potbelly. I love the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. Came in and got so hungry just by walking in and smelling the restaurant! They had so many options which I loved! I have heard amazing things about their shakes so I had to try one! Last week I was in the PotBelly on Waukegan and Deerfield Road. I used the bathroom, washed my hands, took off my watch (which happens to be very expensive), and inadvertently left it in the bathroom. I didn't realize it for 4 days ( I've never been accused of being bright) . When I traced my steps I thought it possible that I left it in the PB bathroom. I called the store and talked to Michael, the store manager. Without hesitation he told me he had found it in the bathroom and said I could pick it up the next day in the store. He very easily could've told me he never found the watch and I would've accepted that someone must have taken it or that I left it elsewhere. This kind of honesty and integrity is rare and I applaud and thank Michael. We need more Michaels in our world. read more

Hadn't been to a Potbelly in awhile, so we stopped in for lunch. I like the sandwiches alright, and I'd give those a 4. Place wasn't terribly busy, maybe 3 tables that had people at them, but there were from where we sat, 4 tables that could be wiped down, and at least one person pacing behind the counter. I had the Wreck, and that was decent enough. The coleslaw is a sort of pre-packaged thing, it's not terrible, but I found it kind of flat. The mac and cheese travesty though, we need to talk about this, Potbelly... I'd wager a good $10 that this mac and cheese is started with a rue, and it's made with a mega-bland cheese. The bacon was awesome, I did indeed love the bacon. The noodles were a little on the soft side, but the cheese "sauce" was a little on the gluey pasty side. Not sure what is going on with that. Service was a little confused, might have gotten in the middle of a shift change. Order was right, but lots of shuffling, and I was a little confused as to where I was supposed to be, despite signs being everywhere telling you where to go. Potbelly has one of the best sandwiches available, anywhere, for any price! Now my friend Scott, formerly of Barrington, IL disagrees with me. He calls them, Empty-belly. But, we have dined here at least once every two/three weeks for years, going back to when they first opened. Now that we moved to the Valley of the Sun, aka Phoenix -- we miss coming here even more. Like fellow Yelp'er Allison M. we didn't have a Potbelly, but sometimes your wait is rewarded, since one just opened down here and we will soon make it's acquaintance. Our favorite time to come-by was around 4:30 or so, before the dinners rush from nearby METRA. This store also has some of the best potato & macaroni salads available in small plastic containers (ugh!). One of the few draw backs. The best deals are on their "big" sized sandwiches. This store also has plenty of seating, including a small back room available for parties. Nice! It also has some live music from time to time -- from a guitar player sitting above your heads in the booth area. Though I tend to like the banjo player in some of their Loop stores. I really like Potbelly subs. As much as I love the Mom and Pop places I like/ love this place as much. It took me a while to realize they were an up and coming chain since I haven't found one worth a damn until now. I like the inside of the stores, the looks of the room, the many tables to eat at, the sometimes live guitar player, all good in my book. The toasted subs are a good value and taste great. Good salads too. Great Giardiniera. You have to ask for extra,extra, extra to get the proper amount IMO since extra means one teaspoon full and thats just not enough!! They recently introduced a bigger sub (BIGS) since their Original sub might be a little small for the bigger eater. I love that you can pick from an assortment of potato chips if you desire since I love chips and can do without fries. Fries are not available. Soooo! Soups and chili are too salty and overpriced. Wendy's has better chili. Stay away! Made to order shakes and malts taste great I'm told. I've been to several Potbelly's and they are very consistent. They have a new sandwich-- the Mediterranean-- which I had twice during my 6-day visit to Chicago AND which I have since recreated in wrap form at home. CALL AHEAD, weekdays. Another example of a place I've had to wait in line for almost twenty minutes. Sometimes they will send a runner out and around the line taking orders, when the line becomes nervously too long. I wish they would take a clue from their sister location downtown.. when the line gets too long there.. they yell "HEY.. YOU IN THE SEXY RED SHOES.. What ARE YOU HAVIN?" At least when you make it to the front, your food is ready to go. Still on any normal occasion its one of the nicer, more spacious, Potbelly locations. One thing I detest! are employees that say but not do. I.E, the other day, I was having lunch in their outside seating area with co-workers. This is a popular Potbelly. It's so popular, they often have live music with a guy singing with his guitar around lunch time. The lines can be long, but they will often have someone taking preorders before the production line with a tablet computer. As for the food, it is no different than any other Potbelly. I tend to try the different and unusual stuff so I will get my sub on whole wheat or a skinny sub for a change. I also discovered a vegetarian sub which includes hummus and artichoke hearts on the menu. I also like the uptown salad with grapes, cranberries, apples, blue cheese and chicken: it's a winner. The dining room is very loud, however. With the cavernous ceilings, live guitar singer and loud children you won't find a relaxing lunch if you dine in. The food was made right but the quality of the chicken was not good. Very fatty. We had our sons Bar Mitzvah at Potbelly's restaurant in Deerfield. We had no idea that a sandwich shop could be converted into a mini night club. The staff was friendly, and very accommodating (ie. they helped us bring our party prizes and give-a-ways in from our car) The food was GREAT as expected... they recommended 4 Sure Entertainment. My son has seen 4 Sure entertainment at a few events and he wanted me to hire them for his bar mitzvah. When I emailed for information they were eager to meet with my family. They offered to send a DJ or MC. 4 Sure Entertainment was amazing! They kept the kids fully engaged through the entire party. They had this guy Ryan who was able to entertain the parents as well. Given them multiple chances and most times some unhappy issue happens. Check your receipts. They like to overcharge. Inconsistent service: If you order a salad they do not ask you half or full and just assume the Full for the higher price. When you order a salad, you have to wait longer so that everybody behind you can get their sandwiches until they feel like making your salad. I really like Potbelly Sandwich Shops - they're among my favorite less-expensive deli-style sandwiches. They have good quality meats and fillings, the bread is hearty, their soups are all pretty decent, and every Potbelly is fairly well-staffed. Out of the all the Potbelly Sandwich locations, however, this is one of my less favorite. This location seems to have more staff turnover than any other location, so the quality can be a bit inconsistent. I've never had a bad sandwich here, but I also feel like I could order 10 of the same sandwich and get 8 different results while waiting a bit longer on two or three of those orders. Y'know, that's still not bad... Other sandwich shops (Panera and Schlotzsky in particular) wish they had such minute problems to contend with. This location also suffers from being in an odd corner storefront, in a really busy shopping center. This means it can be a bit hard to get parking for, and you might get run over (Deerfield Square has a notoriously hazardous parking lot). I recommend parking in the back near Il Forno, and walking through the corridor between Potbelly and Dao. read more
