While making change, Kimberly was wearing the same gloves used for handling food. She was fumbling through the cash trying to make change and then handed me my receipt without giving me the full amount I was owed. When I asked where the rest of my change was, she told me they didn't have change. I told her that she needed to figure it out, and she then went to the drive-thru register, which was literally right behind her, and said all they had were pennies. I told her that was fine, and she counted out the remaining change and gave it to me. What really bothered me was that she then went right back to helping the next customer and handling food while wearing the exact same gloves she had just used to handle cash. That is extremely concerning from a food-safety and cleanliness standpoint. Gloves are supposed to help prevent contamination, not transfer whatever is on money directly onto food and food-service surfaces. I also don't think a customer should have to ask for the change they are owed. If the register doesn't have the correct denominations, the employee should find a way to make the correct change rather than initially handing the customer less money. I normally enjoy Zupas, but this experience was really disappointing. I hope management addresses both the cash-handling issue and, more importantly, the glove/food-handling practices with their employees.
