Came back today. Ordered ahead, using the online order system. When I arrive to pick up my order, there is only one employee sitting there and he hasn't even checked the ticket box. My order is hanging there, infilled, while he relaxes. Then it gets worse. Another customer walks in. This one employee serves him before he starts my call ahead order. Unreal. I am still sitting here waiting for my order. There is no management nor customer service in this store. I asked the employee if there is any benefit to ordering ahead. What is going on with this place? I am admittedly remiss for not reviewing this place for the last few years because I've been coming here for lunch for a while. And during that time I'd probably have rated it reasonably ok. Yet here we are... I remembered to check in recently when I went there and I've had such a high frequency of not-ideal interactions at this place that it warrants some cautions. 1) Check your food. I've ordered online for salad several times and come in, picked it up (it was ready on time!) only to find in one instance there was no dressing. In another instance there were no eggs (there were supposed to be eggs). What gives with the randomly missing things all of a sudden? 2) I apparently can no longer order a Wreck Salad from my app. So I'd started coming in and ordering it in line. That worked until last week. All of a sudden nobody knows what a wreck salad is anymore. And it no longer costs $8.something, it now costs $12.something and rings up as a chicken salad salad? Admittedly all of this may be my fault because I've been ordering nothing but a Wreck Salad for 20 years from Potbelly, but I'd rather get a "oh, sorry we don't do that anymore" than the randomness that has been my recent experiences. I was a regular at this location but their incompetence and horrible customer service has taken its toll on me. I have had my order messed up so many times and I never complained, I just sucked it up and dealt with it. However, last week I finally had enough of my sandwich not having anything on it when I got home and eating two pieces of dry bread, so I called to complain. The manager or assistant manager (not sure at this point) 'scott' is very nice and he apologized and I understood that he would be taking care of my order the next time I was in, which is bi weekly for a tuna sandwich, pizza sandwich and a smoothie. I got to the store the next time and of course Scott wasn't there. The other manager, I think his name is 'Joe', was extremely rude and condescending to me and argued that only one sandwich was to be given for free. I told him both sandwiches were messed up last time and he continued to argue with me saying that everything is pre measured and portioned out. RUDE. He ended up giving me both sandwiches after being extremely annoying and awful but still made me pay for my smoothie. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I will never return here and this guy 'Joe' or whatever his name is should not be a manager in the service industry. This place is a cut above most other franchise sandwich joints. They have a nice selection of healthy sandwiches. They have the 'skinny' and the 'biggy' so you get a low cal choice. This place is an upscaled subway and little more pricey. The buggy turkey is great. Plus you get the option of a couple of different soups. Not bad for a quick lunch. So disappointed at the service I received from Manager Mario today. I tried ordering a combo meal deal advertised on their chalkboard and was told by manager Mario that the deal no longer exists. I asked him to honor it because it is still being advertised in their store. Mario told me no that he could not do that and he would not do that. After going back-and-forth with Mario ( which should have NEVER happened) over a total of about $.30 difference he decided to give it to me for free. I am not pleased that Mario was not more professional and chose to handle this simple situation this way. Mario needs a new job with less responsibility and less customer interaction. Potbellys catering is the WORST. This is not the first time that they have screwed up. Katie is supposively the manager, and she is awful. I called when my order was supposed to be delivered and they told me any minute now. I called 20 minutes later, and she couldn't get in touch with the driver. When I asked HOW LONG??? She said "I don't know." Apparently she is the highest you can go in Potbellys which is such a shame. I am still waiting for an order I have tried to get delivered 30 minutes ago. Very weird experience. Went there with hubs second time and it was completely empty again. The taller guy with longer hair was behind the counter making everything while the guy with glasses with sweeping. We asked how he was doing and he said rudely two more hours and I'm off finally. WTH! We were a little taken back with the rude tune. Then we were ordering 4 of the same sandwich with one different. He kept repeating it over and over with more confusion. The only difference was the bread. Then I think he realized how awkward he was making it and rude he was and was trying to make small talk. When he got over to toppings he just didn't seem into making anything. I get it you may be having an awful day and I'm sorry but do you have to take it out on your customers. I worked in the industry in college I get it. But please don't do the sighs. It was uncomfortable. Then we finally got to pay which seemed like eternity and he messed it up too. This place just opened last month or so, and the food is just great. It is very healthy eating at a pretty affordable price. I got an italian sandwich on whole wheat and a "wreck" salad, as well as an ice-cream sandwich (I had to order the ice-cream sandwich after reading the rave review of this item elsewhere) I thought it'd be good portion as the sandwich and salad are both sub-$5 item... But I was wrong... the salad is a full size salad (MEAL size salad), and the sandwich is an 8-inch long thing, with full of good stuff. They were not cheap in filling it up. After the sandwich (I ate it first because it's warm and toasty), I had to put the salad in the fridge and ice-cream sandwich in the freezer. Before putting away the ice-cream sandwich, my temptation got the better of me and I took a bit of it... yum! the ice-cream they use is those traditional ice-cream, so it's creamy and smooth... For a chain, this is one place that I can get enough of. I mean, it's like wheat-bread-crack for me. Seriously. Of course my office mate continually picks the stuff up for me so I can comment about the food in this review. This time, I acted on Miriam's question and ended up getting the meatball sandwich. Now keeping with the tradition of meatball sandwiches, I didn't get anything on it other than just meat, cheese, and sauce. However, this one came out rather dry and bland without any exceptional flavors. I have to say, the wreck will always get my check! The chili here wasn't as good as the one in Crystal City - it lacked any tang. I mean, it was still hearty and will always remain a solid choice in my book. I liked the fact that the store clerk was lazy and didn't bother to pluck the bags apart so I ended up with two pouches of oyster crackers - always a soup garnish for me. Overall, I've docked the joint a star since the meatball sandwich wasn't anything special. Maybe next time I'll ask for extra sauce to make sure there is a bit of moisture in the gut-bomb and also get some hot sauce in my chili - but that would require me to be there. Great place to stop by for a quick workday lunch. Lines are generally long because of the large workforce around here, but it moves decently well. Staff is efficient and friendly. The dining space is generally enough but can get tough at peak hours. My friend actually plays guitar/sings here at lunch hours on occasion, so it's not a bad location at all. I haven't branched out too much into their menu, since I usually get The Wreck with everything except mayo. So good. read more

Not sure if they had these in California where I live now but enjoyed potbelly when I did live in the Herndon VA area. It is different than most sandwich shops they have some very unique styles and tastes. There's also another one in Sterling Virginia that's really good. Potbelly sandwiches are above average as far as $6 sandwiches are concerned. This location is a great spot to grab lunch. The parking is a bit of a PITA to deal with during lunch, but once you get inside they are very organized and operate at great efficiency to get you back out of the door and back to work. This is a review of the chain at large, but I am posting it here to support my local/home Potbelly store. Best. Sandwich Shop. Ever. Let me first clarify that normally I am not a hot sandwich kinda guy. It's just not my thing. Potbelly requires every sandwich be warm/toasted, so you'd think this would be a turnoff for me. Instead, it's given me an epiphany. Does a BIG Smoked Ham with my favorite toppings come in at a whopping 889 calories for lunch? Yes it does. Do I care? Absolutely not. The price is unbeatable -- the large-sized sandwich is like $5.50 (a normal is under $5!). It is WAY more filling than Subway/Quizno's effort. $5 Footlongs just would never cut it anymore. The only type of place that even registers on the same wavelength as Potbelly for subs/hoagies/sandwiches/whatever you want to call them -- would be those little local delis that exist in like every town in the greater Philadelphia/South Jersey area. You know the type of place I mean if you've ever lived there. They know sandwiches, and you get a boatload of food for minimal amounts of money. Oh! And live music during lunch hour? Who cares if the performer is mediocre? It's still really cool and adds to the ambiance of the place. That's how Potbelly works, and to be a chain? Amazing. OMG I LOVE THIS PLACE, The sandwiches are made to order with what ever you'd like. It's not like any subway or quiznos. The sandwiches are always fresh and tasty. I always get extra mustard and pickles on the side. They have this really good mustard, i don't know how to describe it but yummy. Well pretty much everything I've had has been so far so good. Potbelly's makes a damn fine sandwich. My standard order is: A Wreck on wheat no cheese. Pickles Hot Peppers Mustard Italian Seasoning Tomato Lettuce And an Orangina to drink. The bread is really good, the sandwich is really good, the peppers actually pack a little bit of heat, and the price is right. Sandwiches are about $4, which is really pretty fantastic for this area. Oh, and the cookie! They have THE BEST oatmeal chocolate chip cookie in the area hands down. Be sure to get one. If you can get them right out of the oven, get two! They do not have a huge selection of food, and pretty much only do sandwiches. They have salads too, but I can't comment on them. If you want a low priced but delicious sandwich and a cookie made of crack, give Potbelly's a try. The herndon location is less noisy and busy than the Sunset Hills location.
