Something about the mix of a slightly spicy hummus, hard boiled egg, and avocado - delicious!! You don't even need to use the dressing that's included (although I'm sure that's equally delicious). Okay...I finally tried Potbelly. And I have thoughts. First off, I'm not sure what I ate. I tried their new gyro because it's been getting advertised to hell on my social media, so I threw caution to the wind and gave it a shot. Firstly, the flatbread got toasted and this made the edges almost inedible. They were hard and crusty, but not in a good way. It hurt my teeth to chew through them. The center part of the flatbread was good, but the edges were terrible. Secondly, the meat was okay...but there was about a third of the amount that you'd get at any Greek place worth its salt. Usually, at most Greek restaurants, I have to get a second pita because they overload it with too much meat. Not here. Bare bones. Thirdly, the tzatziki WAS NOT tzatziki. It was a flavorless yogurt sauce with no herbs, no dill, no lemon, no nothing. It was basically sour cream. The onions were white onions, not red. Red onions are more acidic and sharper in flavor, which you really need to set off the fatty meat. The standard white onions they used were pretty bland. All in all, I'd never order this sandwich again. If you offered to buy it for me, I'd ask for the cash instead. I did not mind everything else about the place, though. It was crowded, which is always a good sign. The employees were courteous and seemed to be busting their humps (a drive-thru window on a sandwich shop always seems cruel to the employees). They definitely could have used a few more people working there. That said, none of their guys looked particularly washed or shaven. They all looked greasy, sweaty, and tired and almost all of them sported more than a week's growth on their cheeks and chin. Now, I'm no George Clooney, but in my day there were standards of grooming for working with food, and being shaven was one of them. This place's employees had a pretty unwashed hippie vibe. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but if I were managing that place, I would have had words with them. I guess beggars can't be choosers in this economy, though. I understand. At least they were good dudes and worked hard. Can't complain about the service at all. I'll probably go back. But not soon. I'm in no rush. There's a MOD Pizza right next door to this location, so I'd probably go to MOD before I go back to Potbelly, but if the mood is right and there's an intriguing-looking sammie to try out, I would go again. read more

I'm Wisconsin for some high speed military training and was tasked out to drop off a rental at Madison airport. We were hungry so we asked the staff at the rental place of a good place to eat. They referred us to Potbelly which was not too far from the airport. Came in and from the entrance it looks really neat. The setup they have for sandwich making is something I've never seen before. I ordered the A Wreck sandwich along with a Banana Shake. The food was amazing and the shake was one of the best banana shakes I've ever tried. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I will definitely stop by again whenever I'm in town. read more

We ordered ahead of time for pick up. It had been years since I've been to a potbellys so I was excited! I ordered a salad and my daughter ordered a soup. When I walked in one worker was helping a customer and another was just standing around. I had to wait for the other customer to be done before I was even acknowledged. My food was already paid for and ready to go so all they had to do was hand me a bag ... so I'm not sure why that other worker couldn't have done it. Other than that, the food tasted good and the prices are reasonable. Not sure I'll go out of my way though to make a stop back anytime soon. read more

Ugh. Potbelly. I keep going back, and I keep getting burned. Today I was SO happy when my food was ready ON TIME. That was a first in a long time. The gentleman who greeted me could have been a little more friendly, but I didn't even care. He brought my food out and I was good to go. In and out in less than 5 minutes. That's a win. When I got everything back to the office, though, my excitement quickly disappeared, as I noticed multiple screw ups with our order. 1st - I ordered one of the salads for a group. The Farmhouse. I asked that onions be left out, as we have an onion allergy in the office. The whole things was littered with onions. And they aren't the big, easily picked out onions, either. They are tiny little chunks. 2nd - I ordered an individual sized salad off the underground menu for myself. I *hate* bleu cheese, so I asked that it be sub'd with cheddar. This not only came with loads of bleu cheese, but it was also the group size. Cool. A GIANT salad that I can't eat. 3rd - We got absolutely NO salad dressing. Yay! Dry salad! Luckily we order salad from other places and we have a decent stash of dressings, but come on! If it's not one thing, it's another. Just can't seem to get it right here. read more

When ordering off the menu when they ask you what you want, specify exactly what you want on it, because if you say everything on it, everything on the entire menu is put on the sandwich, not everything that the menu says comes on the sandwich. We have been constant customers of Pot Belly since it opened in the original building near East Towne. It has sinced moved to another location in the old Shopko parking lot across from East Towne Mall. The new location is smaller and not as quaint and cozy, but it serves its purpose. I always get the same thing, the Italian with everything (except tomatoes). It's always perfectly done. My husband has been more adventurous, and likes to try various other sandwiches and soups. He's particularly fond of their chili. I have no complaints at all with the food, but on my last visit I noticed something that I thought I should bring to the managers attention. The servers were all wearing plastic gloves to keep their hands off the food, very good. BUT, they were all also wearing headphones and would constantly be touching the buttons on the headphones while still wearing the gloves. Those headphones have been handled by hundreds of people I'm sure. So it sort of defeats the purpose of wearing gloves if you are still going to be touching germy items, then return directly to the food. Also, as far as those headphones go, they seem to be a rather new addition to the restaurants staff, and we both noticed a definite drop in friendliness from the staff. They seemed to be trying to do too much. Your attention should be on the one person you are serving, you shouldn't be listening and talking to someone else at the same time. Let one person handle the drive-up orders and leave the other employees to the people who actually get out of their cars and come in. read more

Food is good but the staff need some training in what it means to be in the service industry. When a customer thanks you, they should say 'your welcome' or 'thank you'. Not 'no problem'. I know it wasn't a problem--and it really won't be a problem for me to get a sandwich somewhere else. When a customer pays, it takes no effort to tell them how much change they are getting and say 'thanks'. Don't dump the change in their hand without a word and walk away. Does this place have no training? I won't be finding out if things improve, because I'm not going back. read more

I recently had a good experience with Potbelly in Chicago, and decided to check out their east side Madison location while running errands. The store is nicely decorated and kept up, and the staff was very friendly. I decided to repeat my order from my previous visit, but upgrade to the "Bigs" - a larger sandwich that would allow for lunch the next day. I opted for the turkey but subbed cheddar for the swiss and had lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard, oil & seasonings. Everything was fine except for the sandwich maker being super stingy with the sauces. I know he didn't miss them because I saw him pick up the bottles, but I could only taste mustard on one bite. Overall everything was on the dry side. It was a fine sandwich, but skimping on mustard and oil & seasonings seems silly since neither is a premium item. You get a lot of food for a low price so I'd definitely stop here over Subway, but next time I'll ask them to go heavy on the mustard. read more

Two big thumbs up for the new location! On top of the wonderful new construction smell (which I love) on the interior of the restaurant, the new location offers a nice patio with outdoor seating. I like the new location's patio because it has a few trees nearby and because it doesn't have all of the 151 Highway road noise like the patio at the old Potbelly location. The staff people are warm and inviting. Everyone has a big smile on their face, and they're all quite friendly. Very tasty sandwiches! I always like to get the tuna salad on flatbread. Potbelly's tuna salad tastes fresh and has a balanced tuna/mayo ratio -- it's not overloaded and gloppy with mayo. During lunch on Saturdays -- and perhaps other days, although I'm not sure -- an acoustic guitar player plays music inside Potbelly. While I like the concept of the live music, I think he is a little too loud inside the restaurant. That's where the nice patio comes into play. Potbelly is my favorite sandwich shop in Madison. This restaurant is consistent with good service and good-quality sandwiches. read more

I really enjoyed their chocolate shakes more than anywhere else. Though often I found the people that work at the store don't have a very good memory and screw up my order a lot. They're particularly is one lady who's attitude for the last few months is horrible. Doesn't care customer service and makes it feel like I am causing her pain to order from. Also 15 minutes to close she came out and locked the door. Maybe just a bad day, but her attitude is always seemingly angry and upset. No smile never your Welcome or anything. What an epic fail. Ordered delivery (catering for 10 people) to be delivered at between 11:30-11:45am. Received confirmation email that it would be delivered at 11:45 great! The order was for Full Belly (originals) which includes sandwiches, the fixin's, chips, a cold side (macaroni salad, coleslaw, potato salad), and cookies. I did add on a few can sodas and water bottles. Fairly easy order, right?! Or so I thought... This is where things went down hill and went down hill fast. Our office orders catering a lot. With that being said we more often times than not have GREAT experiences (with other restaurants/delivery services). This I have to say was not one of them. Since this is a corporate office, there often is limited time to eat between meetings, so on time delivery is a must! By this time it was 11:58am and food was no where in site. I called Potbelly and expressed my concern. The response I got was, "it was ready to go, and should be there any minute", okay understandable we are only a few minutes away it is lunch time after all. 12:35pm rolls by... Still no food. At this point meetings started again. Called was told "The food is on its way. It should be there". Okay.. Not happy at this point but I wait. and wait some more. 20 minutes later mind you it is now 12:55pm, original delivery time was 11:45am, and I was told 20 minutes prior food would be there. Well its not. I called again (3rd call to Potbelly). The lady on the phone explained the man delivering the food left over 30 minutes ago and it should have been there. I asked for the guys number, but she insisted that she would call him. I explained it was way past the time we needed the food by, and that we would have ordered elsewhere if we knew this was going to happen. 1:15pm... Food FINALLY delivered 1 hour and 30 minutes past the time it should have came by. They ended up not charging us the whole order. Great, I appreciate that but to be honest. I wish they would have called earlier today and asked if someone could pick it up or have been honest that they couldn't fulfill the order. It was an order for 10 people. Not 20, not 50, 10. I am sure they see that many people in the restaurant in a matter of minutes. read more

Other reviews confirm, the staff does not understand what it us to give good customer service. Stopped by on our road trip to Minneapolis. The food was fine - sandwiches and soup. Unfortunately the service was not good because there was only one cashier who was also manning the drive through. I have visited the Potbelly Sandwich Shop near East Towne Mall several times without any issues. However, when I visited there a few days ago, things had deteriorated. As I waited to place my sandwich order in front of the deli meats, a plastic bag containing sandwich bread fell into the turkey meat. A staff person was right there and saw it happen, but all she did was replace the bag on the nearby shelf. She did not remove the top layer of turkey meat to dispose of it. I was ordering turkey sandwiches, and asked her to please not give me turkey meat from the top, because of the bag falling into it. Instead of throwing away the top layer of turkey, she instead used her gloved hand to pull turkey out from the bottom. That was OK for my sandwiches, but the other turkey meat might not have been safe for other customers (I don't know how they store their bread bags before they're shelved, and who knows how they were transported on a truck to get to Potbelly's - my guess is the bag probably came into contact with a lot of germs). As my sandwiches were coming off the conveyor belt and I was asked what toppings I would like, the staff person working the drive-thru threw something over toward the conveyor belt that landed very near my sandwich. This person did the same thing again twice more before my sandwiches were bagged. The person who prepared my second sandwich did so with her mouth gaping open the entire time. I was worried she was going to drool onto my sandwich. I won't be going back there any time soon... read more

The food was great, and the décor is even better! I had a turkey club with hots. The hots are really good here and I got them in the mac n cheese. The staff was friendly. I also really LOVE all of the photos from the WI Historical society on the walls. Check on the really cool one in the back hall of three people ice skating. I'll be back for sure. read more

She answered and told me "did you try using our app" which I replied yep and told her I thought it would be easier to call. She then tells me how much work she has to do to take my order over the phone and how much longer it's going to take her. I replied my husband can just order when he gets there I guess. Woot woot! Potbelly NEVER disappoints. My faves are the veggie (mushroom and cheese) and the wreck. Do not forget the yummy soups and... oh those giant chocolate chip oatmeal cookies!!!.
