My husband and I stopped at Jason's Deli in West Madison for lunch, and as always, it was a wonderful experience. We keep coming back because the food is consistently fresh and delicious, and the restaurant is always spotless. Every member of the staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely seems to enjoy what they do. One employee in particular, Corneil, really stood out today. His sincere kindness and genuine love for people made our visit even more enjoyable. He has the perfect personality for the hospitality industry--warm, welcoming, and exceptionally polite. I took out lunch from here on a weekday. The place was spacious inside. I ordered in store. My food was ready in 10 minutes. Food was really good and prices were reasonable. Pot pie soup was in interesting and excellent soup. It came with a pot pie dough kind of a topping, which went well with the soup. Wild salmon sandwich was an excellent healthy sandwich. I went for a fruit cup side. Fruits were good. Chipotle chicken and avocado panini was also really good. I went for a Strawberry shortcake as dessert. It was more than enough for 2 people. I came in with my daughter, and although the food was good, I originally was not happy when I first came in. I asked the manager on duty to double check in order and although she said she did, it came out incorrect. Cornell at the front desk was quick to correct it! He gave me great customer service and put a frown upside down into a smile. Cornell even corrected my food order and turned out even better than the original and corrected pricing for me as well. I'm a person that appreciates the food they eat so I didn't want to make a big deal about it, but he is very attentive and came in like a superhero before I even thought to ask. This place is awful & vastly overpriced. My husband & I ordered take-out lastnight from the Mineral Point Road location. My California club had no guacamole nor bacon which is supposedly standard on this item. The amt of meat was paltry. The cheese rubbery & bland. The hibiscus tea, which I was very much looking forward to, was basically colored sugar water. The potato salad, dry & bland. We did receive a nice fresh fruit cup, which we didn't order. It's been a long time since I've eaten at a Jason's Deli and didn't even know we had one in town. I was starving and left the gym and went to eat my body weight in salad. It's the one all you can eat buffet that you can leave and not feel completely terrible about eating so much. Went in sorta later, maybe 7 and there were only a couple tables of people. Just got the salad bar and everything on it seemed fresh. No disappointments. THe only issue is I couldn't figure out where the extra plates were for the extra visits so I just used the same one over and over. I thought that was against health code but maybe not. read more

Well today one of our insurance reps bought our agency lunch and I was super excited to hear that we were ordering from Jason's Deli. I got broccoli cheddar soup and Italian Cruz Po'boy Regular sub. I have to say that it was really good, the only thing I forgot to do was not get it toasted. I am not a big fan of my subs being toasted but other than that I give it two thumbs up. I ordered a handful of items and overall it was average. The salad was sub par, the Mac and cheese was the worst, however the sandwiches saved it. The beef sandwich was flavorful and the au jus was perfect. Flavorful and not overly salty, made an amazing complement to the beef. The Po Boy was nice too! While the sandwich felt robbed of meat, this was one of the few times that I enjoyed the stone ground mustard. The cookie, chocolate chip of course, was the perfect balance of crunchy and chewy. Jason's Deli offers sandwiches, different types of loaded baked potatoes, a select number of pasta dishes, soup and salad. The salad bar is one of my favorites, and for sandwiches I'm partial to the Turkey sandwich and chicken salad. Pros: Healthy fresh options, plenty of seating, drive through window for those days you just don't want to get out of the car, free soft serve ice cream! Cons: A little on the pricy side for salad and sandwiches you could in theory make yourself at home, indoor seating area is always cold so dress in layers, managers walk around the restaurant but rarely ask you if there is anything you need, beverage station was out of napkins during my most recent visit. read more

I stop in mostly for takeout, primarily the salad bar, which is fantastic. Overall, the food is fine. I like the sandwiches I've had, but the salad bar is what brings me in regularly. The service is generally good. There have been some occasions when I've stood at the counter feeling that people are available to come take my order, but no one is in a rush to do it (to be fair, in my experience this is not the norm). However, the salad bar is always clean and stocked (at least when I'm there), which is where I'm most concerned with regard to service. The ambiance is okay for a chain restaurant, though sometimes it is apparent that tables haven't been bussed for a bit. This might sound like a 4-star review, but I've been stopping in regularly enough for some time that it's a 5-star spot for me. read more

Jason's Deli, in spite of being a national brand, is a pretty good deli. Their reuben and muffaletta are the stuff of daydreams. But for me, the New York Yankee is the way to go: a mountain of corned beef and pastrami taller than any person should eat at one sitting (eater's hack-take half home), Swiss, and mustard. I have eaten this sandwich in five different states and for the most part everything has been consistently delicious. That's why I was so surprised to be a little disappointed in my meal here. The corned beef and pastrami were both still cold in the middle and the corned beef was too fatty. Whoever sliced the meats needs more training, the meat was sliced with the grain rather than against it. I had to manhandle the sandwich to keep every bite from pulling out the entire filling. The potato salad, generally my favorite side, was full of chunks of almost raw potato, undercooked and to large to fit easily on the fork. I want to put in a solid thumbs up for the black currant iced tea. This may be my favorite beverage. Plus, I had such a fight trying to get the lid on the cup I probably burned enough calories to make the meal only slightly overindulgent. In spite of these footfalls, the flavors were all up to the chain's high standards. read more

This is my go to place to get a fix of home (TX). Originally from Beaumont, TX and now based out of Austin, TX...this is one of my favorite chains from Texas. I always get the Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich and a cup of their Chicken Pot Pie Soup (see picture). Their salad bar is great too because of the choices. Surprisingly this bar is smaller than what I'm used to. Everything IS bigger in Texas. The corn muffins and ginger muffins are so fresh. Plus they always have frozen yogurt. It's so yummy. This location in particular is soooo clean. They are prompt and friendly. I highly recommend this place for lunch but it was also perfect for a light dinner. Great for families and good for solo trips. Don't forget that they have specials (half sandwich, half soup/salad...Manager's specials). Jason's Deli is just okay, not amazing. The only thing on the kids menu that my kiddos would eat is the bow tie pasta with meatball and half the time the meatballs are cold. The soups are a salty gelatinous mixture. Had a veggie wrap the other day and the tortillas were thick and heavy with hardly any filling. A slice of avocado, a sprinkle of tomatoes, a couple mushrooms. The salsa with it was clearly spoiled. I ended up with an upset stomach. Besides this the last two times we ate dinner the salad bar was mostly empty for around 30 minutes. It's likely attendant had taken the trays to the back to add to the top rather than bringing fresh ones out to replace the current ones as buffets should do. Another time I ordered the spinach potato thinking it would be healthier and ended up draining an entire bowl of butter or oil off of it. The chocolate drizzle by the soft was out the last two or three times, even some of the soft serve was out. My recommendations would be: Getting a soup that is thin like soup and not salty or gooey people can add sat or pepper if they need it. Having the cooks retrained so the potatoes aren't dripping with oil and butter. Thinner & softer tortillas for the wraps, with more insides. A large lettuce leaf, or multiple small lettuce leafs/spinach, tomatoes, chopped cucumber, sweet pepper slices or diced, sliced zucchini, avocado is okay but make sure it's fresh, mushroom is okay but again fresh. Leave the cheese as an option not automatic. And never serve spoiled salsa or other foods! read more

I got the Cuban press and tortilla soup and my partner ordered the Cali club. My Cuban arrived cold, which was odd. Served with pickles, yellow deli mustard, and Swiss. The Cali came with bacon, lettuce, and avocados. Both sandwiches were served with a bag of Lays kettle chips and a pre package slice of dill pickle. This is comparable to a Panera. They do dressed up sandwiches sufficiently. Nothing more nothing less. The tortilla soup had tiny bits of chicken and was otherwise salty. I saw there was free, self-service soft serve machines. Not sure if that's a clever or desperate marketing scheme. read more

Four stars? Five stars? I had a hard time deciding. I love a good sandwich. I LOVE a good corned beef sandwich. How could I not order that? The "manager's special" is the way to go if you ask me. A half sandwich plus a bowl of soup and chips. All that for about about seven and a half bucks. For a dollar, upgrade the soup to a trip to the salad bar. I went with the salad bar and a half corned beef and swiss on rye. OH MY! Let's go back to the beginning. We walked in and were greeted by friendly staff. They were more than happy to let us stew over the menu for a while and answer any questions we had. When it came time to order, they helped us figure things out (pointing out the Manager's Special). The dining area is clean and very comfortable. The outside dining looks inviting on these warm spring days. The food has been ordered, now what? We grab our salad plate and head to the well-stocked salad bar. This itself could be a meal. F'realz. All the popular toppings plus some pasta salads. No substantial meat to add on, but between crumbled bacon and boiled eggs, you can get your protein. I made myself a meal-sized salad and it was pretty excellent. The sandwiches and chips arrived after we started in on our salads. The corned beef was stacked high and looked great. The rye bread was pretty standard - nothing horribly authentic or special, but it was sufficient to deliver the savory corned beef to my food hole. SO GOOD! The meat was exploding with flavor - I was half surprised, half elated. While the salad would have been enough for my lunch meal, I didn't feel like I could leave the sandwich on the plate or banish it to a to-go container, so I finished it. Next time, I'll try to be smarter and stash that away for a mid-afternoon snack or dinner item. Not enough you say? Go get yourself some free ice cream! Nothing special, but you can choose from vanilla or chocolate soft serve. Swirl is an option as well. There's some chocolate syrup available to dress it up if you like. Small bowls and cones are the serving options. So, bravo, Jason! Your Deli as excellent! Why four stars and not five? I continue to fight that. Maybe some artisan bread to really make the sandwich pop. Or some more authentic chips instead of whatever Lay's makes. I was looking for a quick, fresh sandwich to eat on my way to Woodman's so I wouldnt have a hungry grocery shopping experience. I should have detoured a little and gone to Bagel's Forever. Instead I decided to try Jason's for the first time. Not knowing exactly what they sold, the drive through window was a little overwhelming. I asked what they were known for and they said the club and the reuben, so I got both. Both came with a choice of chips. I got BBQ, which were underwhelming. The club had a healthy amount of meat on a croissant. The croissant and the vegetables seemed fresh. There was some sort of faint sweet sauce, maybe honey mustard? If the menu specified I couldnt see it. I would have preferred mayonnaise. It was good, but I dont think it was $9 for an average size croissant good. The reuben was bigger, but also more expensive. Unfortunately it was mostly sauerkraut. If there was any thousand island dressing I couldnt taste it. Again, not terrible, but not worth $12 for just a sandwich. I'm sure there are local delis offering similar food or better for better prices. But it wasnt terrible. read more

Nice place for sandwich, salad, and soups. I got a chicken sandwich, which was surprisingly tasty and a 1-time salad bar. The salad bar had your standards, and if you're wanting your greens, it is a nice place to get a quick assortment of fresh greens on your plate. There's also random stuff like granola, yogurt, crackers, potato salad, and pasta salad, but you have one bowl to fill what you want. My husband got the rueben and that was pretty good, too. Is it lunch time yet? This is a great place to eat, especially if you're planning to dine-in. You can either stand in the ever growing lunch line and order a sandwich or another item on their menu. OR, you can skip the line and order at their computer at the end of the line to access their salad bar. I've done both, I will likely revisit the salad bar. You can even fill a plate, finish the salad and go back up to get a fresh plate to make another salad with. Whether you order from the salad bar or not, you can still enjoy endless ice cream! Boom, that's right. Endless. Ice. Cream. The perfect end to any lunch, especially if you have a sweet tooth. There seem to be plenty of booths and tables for seating with a group or on your own. The staff is also very attentive and float around the room to clean up messes and make sure the salad bar is fully stocked. Any time I try to convice another Eastsider to go here it's like that Lion King meme where Simba asks about that "dark space" and every Eastsider replies "that is the West Side - you must never go there." I exaggerate, a little, but this place really is worth it! The salad bar is fresh and delicious. The options are ridiculous and there is always something that will tempt even the most picky of taste buds. All of the sandwiches are stacked high and there is nothing that I have seen come out of that kitchen that did not look tasty. Also - their deli pickles are amazing...it's those little touches that get a place to have 5 stars. I got the spinach veggie wrap which I envisioned being a yummy melty wrap with warm cooked veggies as was hinted in the menu saying it came in a toasted organic wheat wrap. However the insides were all raw. I expected cooked spinach & mushrooms. Hubby got the Reuben lighter portion. The sour kraut to meat ratio was ridiculous and he has to remove the excess kraut. The remaining meat was still filling. On the plus side we enjoyed the free soft serve and will probably still be back since it's a cheaper and quicker alternative to standard sit down restaurants.
