It took me awhile before I decided to try Mishawaka, but I wanted to give them a try to iron out any kinks when I came at random. So after working 12 hours today I decided to go to potbellies and have one of their sandwiches and get some hot soup I love their chicken pot pie soup there was a lady in front of me she said I have an online order the guy said we just received it pull forward will get it ready for you so I was next pull up to the drive-through a guy says what can I get you so I told him I wanted the original wreck Sandwich with just mayonnaise and provolone nothing else he said do you want any other toppings? I said no. He said is that it did you need anything else? I said talking really really fast I said you know what go ahead and wait on that other lady. I can't figure out the soup that I wanted. This is a nice little sandwich shop on Main street in Mishawaka. They have an interedting variety of sandwich, salad, and soup choices. They have a cooler that has a bunch of bottled soft drinks that you can chose from. The ordering goes down the line and seems a bit rushed and could confuse a first timer. In my opinion the people there talk a little too fast, but hey! It's called fast casual for a reason. The food is a little pricey, but good. This ain't no subway folks. They also have a drive thru and a reward points program through their app. The place was clean, for the most part. There was a family behind us who dumped a bag of chip on the floor. It just kind of like sat there on the floor. The bathrooms were clean. I ate at the Potbelly in East Lansing for years during graduate school and I occasionally pop into this one now that I live in the area. A way to screw up your order is to order a sandwich without bacon. Always get bacon on your sandwich from Potbelly. I decided to try Potbelly because they have a drive thru window and I was doing my morning errands, looking scrubby. It was a great decision because they were so wonderful. They took the time to explain what they had going on at Potbelly as far as sandwiches, while I was in the drive thru. The service was phenomenal. I decided on a 6" Tuna Salad and a Sugar Cookie. Also, I got a Power House salad for dinner. They give you an option on bread (multigrain, regular, or flat bread). I added mayo, spinach, oil, and s&p. The texture of the tuna salad was nice and thick, chunky. The sugar cookie was crispy astound the edges and soft in the middle. As soon as I put it in my mouth the butter and sugar started melting. Potbelly just opened in Mishawaka. I ate in a Potbelly in Chicago about a year ago- was not impressed. I LOVE good sammiches, so lets see how this place does. I was shopping nearby and I wanted a "little somethin'-somethin'" before I called it a night. I was very close to the new Potbelly, so I decided to give them a try. The décor is what I would call "faux-eclectic", with all kinds of bric-a-brac strewn across the walls that was obviously provided by Potbelly's corporate "decorator", who likely buys these items in mass quantities to adorn every new Potbelly that opens-up in America. (The Chicago store I ate in a year ago looked pretty much the same.) The menu is hung at break-neck height, about 10 feet off the floor so it is very difficult to read. I asked the girl at the register for a menu, and she did not know where any were located. I found one on my own before she was any help to me. Quite honestly nothing really grabbed my attention, maybe the Pizza Sub, but I had just eaten Italian food at Olive Garden for lunch, so I got the tuna salad. She pulled my white bread out of a plastic bag and slit the side- she then put one full scoop of "tuna salad" on one half of the bread, but there was only enough tuna left in the container to put HALF A SCOOP of tuna on the other side of my sammich! Instead of going to get more tuna to make my sammich proper, she quickly grabbed a spreader knife and smeared the tuna over the bread and nervously looked up at me to see if I had noticed- I did. She told me to step down and tell the other girl what toppings I wanted. You cannot see the toppings in the make-table at Potbelly, and I had no clue what toppings were available, so I had to ask the girl. You would think with this being A BRAND NEW RESTAURANT IN TOWN that the employees would be a little more outgoing as far as offering to tell their new customers what toppings are available and describing how Potbelly operates a little better- but no. I told her I wanted lettuce, green pepper and onion. She mumbled something and started to put some wet, slimy looking red stuff on my sammich! I asked her "What is that?" She said it's roasted red pepper- I said "I wanted GREEN PEPPER"- she, "Sorry we don't have that"! As she scraped off MOST of the slimy roasted red pepper stuff, I asked if I could have onion. I THINK she put some on, but I'm really not sure, it must have been chopped very fine. I sat down and pulled out my dinner, all the while wishing I had just gone to Jersey Mike's, where I KNOW I will get a great sammich for the same price and points on my loyalty card towards a free sammich! Basically my tuna sammich tasted kinda like a Subway, except drier with less flavor and fewer available toppings- Oh, AND ABOUT 3 DOLLARS MORE EXPENSIVE!!! Actually, in truth, the sammich was EXCRUTIATINGLY BLAND AND TASTLESS! Imagine ground-up, wet newspaper that had been used to wrap fish; pretty close. I had a little of my sammich left and I decided I wanted to wash my hands. I went to the Men's room and when I came back to my table one of the girls was wadding-up the paper wrapper on my table WITH MY SAMMICH INSIDE! I just stopped about 10 feet from her watching in disbelief when she finally noticed me. She said "Oh, I'm sorry, weren't you done?"... I said "No". She offered to make me another sammich and I just said "No, please hand me my receipt". Potbelly seems to be trying to sell itself as a Starbucks-style sandwich house with a bo-ho twist; the faux-eclectic decorating, the live music (the idea makes me cringe), and the off-the-wall quotes and scribbles on every flat surface. All I can say is delicioso. For the sandwich that is, I ordered the italian and it was super yummy. I liked that we had the option to add various addons. I chose bacon and mushrooms. I was in the mood for a nice sub sandwich and I had yet to try Potbelly Sandwich Shop. I am by no means a food snob however i do appreciate quality food. I've always loved a good flavorful meaty sandwich and over the years have grown tired of eating at sandwich/sub shops that are nothing more than over priced knock offs of Subway. So I hoped that this place would be different. On their menu what I noticed was that some of their meat options for some of their sandwich's they offer are supposedly off the bone. Which I like, due to the fact a lot of sandwich shops only serve customers low grade lunch meat which isn't my style. However as my sandwich was being made I was in suspense due to the counter wall being sooooooo high I couldn't see how the server was preparing my sandwich or the ratios of toppings that was on my sandwich. So I didn't know what the final result would be. When my sandwich was revealed I was somewhat disappointed. Like so many restaurants Potbelly's pretentious advertising was the cause of my disappointment and restaurants are getting better and better at it, leaving customers disappointed and this was yet another case. When I opened up my sandwich their was barely any meat, and skimpy lettus. From the flavor aspect the taste was just decent. I've had better, but I've also have had worst. Potbelly does have options for adding more meat to your sub (of course for an extra fee) and I highly recommend doing that otherwise you'll eating just bread. I might give them another try if I'm in the mood for a sub and I'm in the area. But I probably won't make it a point to go their in the future. I opened up my food and my sandwich was missing ingredients, so I went up to the counter and explained my problem to the employee standing there. She then told me I needed to tell another employee about it and pointed for me to go talk to someone else.
