It has been awhile since Ive been to Nedderman's. I was disappointed to see they charge a 3% fee for anything other than cash. Thankfully I had cash on me! When I mentioned it to the employee she snickered at me and then turned around and made fun of my remark to other employees. The American people cant seem to catch a break! Neddermans Is a cool place when you want drive thru goodness and skip Hamburger Row on McKinley. Always flavorful. They use a good bread for the sandwiches, and even offer a 1/2 size sandwich if you don't want a heavy lunch. I will always go back, just not on a ND Home Game Saturday. We thought this place wouldn't be good, but we got the shaved steak sandwich and the lunch steak tips and both were so great! I absolutely loved my sandwich, and it paired really well with their tangy bbq sauce. I placed an online order for pickup during lunch rush and anticipated a 15-20 minute wait at least. Nope! The Walk-up Carry-out window had it ready in 6 minutes... the drive-thru style of it is off putting at first, but now I can see why there's always a line wrapped around the building. Or you can get a larger meal option and they even have a vegetarian option available of sautéed veggies and mashed potatoes. They do have some limited seating available outside. You can order at their window outside but I've always used the drive-through. The people working there have always been really friendly as well. I bought the Large, Steak Tip Dinner ($13.49), & The Veggie Dinner (A Side Order) (4.99), & The Green Beans (A Side Order) ($2 49). (I ate the whole Steak Tip Dinner & 1/2 the Green Beans! And I was full! Of course I'm a Senior and I don't eat as much as the younger whippersnappers do!) I haven't ate all day. Been out paying Bills and it's the only time I eat out. I feel like the little kid who can't see the emperor's new clothes, but, here we go anyway... I've lived in this area off and on for 15 years- I've driven past this place hundreds, if not thousands of times. My spidey-sense always told me "that place CAN'T be all that great", "it looks like a carnival food stand". Today the weather was beautiful, I was in a good mood and I finally stopped at Nedderman's. I decided to eat at the picnic table- I walked up to the window and the girl took my order. I got the large steak tips sandwich with green beans and mashed red potatoes with a Coke. She "suggested-sold" me some mushrooms for $1 extra and some A-1 sauce for .50 more cents. As I waited for my food I could hear the drive-thru orders being placed and people were being asked how they wanted their steak tips cooked- I was not asked what temperature I wanted for my tips, and since this was my first time here it did not even occur to me to request a certain doneness. I received my food in about 10 minutes and I did not get the A-1 sauce for which I had paid extra. I walked back to the window and got my sauce. I also asked about the side of mushrooms I bought and I was told they were on the sandwich under the meat. I looked and saw the mushrooms under the meat - large, un-cut, whole mushrooms that took up a lot of space- where maybe the rest of my steak should have been? I expected the mushrooms to be on the side and I would add them to my sandwich as I saw fit. The steak was bland. Not horribly tough, but not melt-in-your-mouth tender either. The only salt and pepper available was ONE each of those tiny little packets that you get at McDonalds or Burger King that was included in my plastic wrapped fork-napkin-salt-pepper kit. The potatoes were unremarkable to borderline disappointing, the green beans were beans. I need to repeat this- THE FOOD WAS BLAND, UNREMARKABLE AND UNSATISFYING! And it was not cheap!, $13.35 for a steak-tip sandwich! For just a couple dollars more I could have gone to a real steak house and gotten a REAL steak dinner with table service, unlimited salt and pepper and no flies! The place always seems busy, and they were busy during my visit! But, I have no reason to lie- if the food were good I would be shouting it from the rooftops. I am always excited to find a new, GOOD restaurant. Didn't happen today. This Place Makes Me Like Steak! And I Don't Like Steak!. Moist and meaty! This place is a simple drive-through or dine outside on picnic tables kind of place. Nothing fancy. But don't let that fool you. The sirloin tips are WONDERFUL. Very flavorful, and they come served with onions, green beans, and some of the butteriest potatoes you've ever eaten. For an additional small fee, you can also add mushrooms to your meal. I actually picked out this restaurant in advance as a place I thought my husband would enjoy. Never did I expect to like it so much, especially since I prefer not to eat steak. I'm not a vegetarian, but it seems that all steak just ends up tasting the same to me. We both liked it so much that we made a return visit! I opted to get mushrooms and not onions with my sirloin tips meal. You aren't allowed to substitute, but that was no big deal for me. The food is great. But drive thru operator tends to lack the intelligence to execute a simple task. I ordered 3 shaved sandwiches and 1 steak tip(s) through the speaker. My total seemed a little low so when pulling up to the window I asked about my order. It was wrong I she only entered 2 shaved sandwiches attempted to clarify it but it seemed like I was talking to a complete moron. I absolutely love their food! Not a big selection but their steak tips are as good , if not better than the expensive steak houses in the area.
