Even though I've been living on and off in the Potomacs since I was a child, I came here for the first time recently with my fiancé on a rainy Monday evening looking for a quick but not unhealthy dinner option. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean, well lit, and organized the interior was. We grabbed their packaged chicken pot pie (needs ~20 min in oven) and got 6pc of cocktail shrimp, an Italian meatball, a medium container of kale and Brussels sprouts salad, and a crab cake all for about $48. The staff were very friendly and the place had a good atmosphere. In terms of food, the cocktail shrimp was amazing. It was about $9 for the 6 pieces of shrimp (small container) that we got, but those shrimp were HUGE and very succulent. They are two-bite shrimp for sure. Definitely worth it for a little treat. The crab cake was nice as well - lots of big hunks and good flavor. The chicken pot pie is probably enough for 2 servings, but since we had other food, we had a little bit leftover (that I ate the next day). If you follow the instructions and heat it in the oven, the pastry is very flaky, buttery, and crispy. Although kale is far from being my favorite veggie, the salad was pretty decent and good to have for some plant fiber. The only item I didn't really like and won't get again was the Italian meatball, which was too dense and finely ground for me (I prefer a larger grain, looser and juicier meatball). In any case, I'm very happy to have finally tried this place out and will definitely be back! read more

Love this place! Love their pizza too! My kids love it better then Potomac Pizza! Safe to say we have tried almost every thing they make and have never been disappointed. We've only purchased their salmon fillets to cook on our own and those were nice and fresh too. Folks working there have always been nice and helpful too! Potomac Grocer has been open for several weeks. Almost all of their food is very high-end, local, organic. Bravo! I bought a sandwich. But for one flaw, I'd have called it amazing. Bread (ciabatta) was fantastic - ideal texture and taste. Filling (chipotle chicken salad) was perfect. But it was cut sloppy so that there was a hole in the middle of the bread through which things squeezed out, sigh. (Since I bought it to go, I didn't realize it until too late.) This is service I'd expect at Subway, not here and not at $10+ prices. The person (a young girl) working behind the counter should have known enough to discard the bread and try again. If PG prides itself on service (as its website asserts), it shouldn't allow things like this to happen. But ignoring that, it's hard to imagine how this place will survive. Most of what they sell is fresh so they cannot afford to stock/make a lot each day. Even ignoring the nearby proximity of Giant and Safeway, PG is small, the prices will necessarily be high, and parking is inconvenient. It will be a very difficult business, convincing locals to come here on a regular basis. I wish them luck. They're going to need it. read more

We noticed this place by accident while we were across the street at another store. Only intended to stop by to see what they had, but wound up purchasing a bunch of gourmet supplied. Everything looked very fresh and the place was spotless. Staff were friendly and we were asked if we needed help by several of the staff as we browsed. Unfortunately, we had just eaten so were not hungry but will certainly be back to try their sandwiches and salads which all looked fantastic. The fish and meat all looked fresh and the prices were not bad for Potomac. I did splurge on some exotic balsamic and truffle essentials, and will certainly be back to try more. read more

The spinach pie was good. I asked for it heated in the oven so it was nice and crispy after five minutes. It was the cheapest thing there, like $3.50. The salad are by the pound and my friend got a small portion that turned out to be $7! read more

Still stop by occasionally. Tried their pizza recently. Very meh, crust is too thick and doughy, not worth the price. Also have had their roast beef sandwich, which is solid but overpriced. I love shopping at Potomac grocer. The prepared food is always quite good and the staff is extremely helpful and pleasant. We love their crab cakes, crab balls, grilled shrimp, and the chicken parm is to die for. For lunch, I recently tried one of their packaged salads to-go and it was terrific - crisp and a nice variety of ingredients. As for their fish, it is fresh as can be! The service, especially Max, is perfect - there is nothing that he doesn't know about seafood. The salmon is presented beautifully and tastes as good as it looks. The crab cakes beat any others that you might find anywhere. The soups are delicious. There is really nothing negative that I can say. This is my go to place and will always be. Little Gem in Potomac! This is such a wonderful specialty grocery store located next to a Walgreens. The store isn't big but the selections they have are stellar. I always get these on a regular basis: Turkey and cheese on a baguette with thousand island dressing - they use fresh ingredients and the turkey isn't as processed like at other sandwich places. At first I was skeptical about putting thousand island dressing on it instead of mayo but now I won't have it any other way. Maryland Crab Soup - delicious without a ton of salt in it. Crab Dip & Crab cakes - love the seasoning in the dip. Fresh seafood - excellent cuts from mostly wild-caught sources. Baked cookies - the peanut butter is my favorite but also like the chocolate chip ones too. Cole Slaw - just right. Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing - nice flavor but a tad bit tart for me so I add a tiny bit of sugar which makes it perfect. Organic nonfat milk - this is so darn fresh and I like that it doesn't taste as sweet as other skim milks on the market. A first the $7 price for a half gallon threw me off but there's a $2 rebate when you return the bottle making the price just $5 for fresher milk (the commercial brand of organic skim milk I get at other grocery stores is just a penny less and not as fresh). Seaweed Salad - hard to find unless I go to a Japanese restaurant or Whole Foods. Now I just wish they had some sushi to go with the seaweed salad! read more

Maybe I was a bit harsh on my previous review. I still don't think PG is THAT great but they do somethings really well. Seafood is the gem here. Crab cakes, crab dip, fish, etc. Desert is good but cheesecake, etc seems to be their thing and isn't my thing (maybe that is a good thing....;) Some things are downright terrible - one being the tuna spring rolls. I think all they did was stuff some tuna salad into a spring roll wrapper. Kind of gross and REALLY fishy (at least the were when I had them). The avocado spring rolls are better. Same goes for the dumplings. Bake your own crab dip is like heaven in a tin container. The deli counter sandwiches are pretty good as well. I've had the chicken salad sandwich before but the lettuce and tomatoes certainly could have been fresher. The lettuce was the bagged variety, not local. read more

Food looks as good and is as expensive; I bought a very good egg salad; I asked for 2 chicken empanadas and got meat instead; the server seemed to be in a hurry though there were very few people there. They should try not to make the shelves look empty, for instance, there should be more pastries or cake. But then again, if they don't sell it.... Bought the tuna burger to grill; had a terrible taste, and was mostly some kind of filling. Spicy seaweed was good. Potatao salad good. Prime steak was borderline pedestrian at best. Chicken and cilantro sausages were good. Service was nice enough. Overall 3 stars but when you consider their prices (you can get most of their shelf inventory at Trader Joe's for way less), this is a 2 star deal. I would only come back on a pinch, but I can't imagine what that would be. read more

I've been stopping here at least once a week, mostly to buy fresh fish for dinner. Potomac Grocer has provided the very best tasting fish I've found anywhere in the area, including River Falls Market, and Potomac Grocer's staff is a lot more friendly. The staff is very helpful in offering tips on cooking or grilling food and their advice has proved very sound! And their prices are considerably lower! We have enjoyed the very best PEI mussels, salmon, kebobs, and other fish. This week we practically drooled over the delicious salmon kebobs we bought there. Potomac Grocer has now become my go-to place for seafood and I'm looking forward to trying some of their other fresh foods, including pork, chicken and beef. Menu had great choices to support broad range of dietary needs. Owner advised on appropriate amounts while not upselling me. If I could give this place a hundred stars, I would. I haven't had anything here that was less than amazing. Their chicken salad sandwich is THE BEST chicken salad sandwich you will EVER have, and as a bonus, they sell the chicken salad itself in small, sandwich-size servings to go! Everything is high quality, tasty, delicious, amazing, not enough adjectives to describe my love for this place. I wanted to buy an avocado, normally i have to sift and sort and search to find a suitable avocado; at potomac grocer, EVERY SINGLE AVOCADO was the perfect ripeness and texture. Stopped in needed some water. Did know know exactly what type of store they were. Cashier lovely, rest of help in store never said a word and we were the only people in the store. I went over to River Falls Market and noticed they were closed, so I decided to try Potomac Grocer across the street by Hunters Inn. Wow, I'm glad I did. They had a book signing going on there with Carla from the Chew and there were lots of familiar faces. Junior, the guy I was going to see over at RF was there now. I got Fresh Salmon and Tuna for the adults and It was just terrific. For the Kids, I got a bunch of prepared foods including, Chicken Parm, Meat Loaf and Beef Stroganof. I asked the kids for their reviews and they all gave a big thumbs up. I'm so happy I found this market in Potomac, and will be a steady customer. read more
