EDIT: I would like to note that a manager has called, twice, and offered a refund, additional mementos and to reprocess. The cost was $500 just for the cremation, which through a non-emergency vet would be around $200. Because of the holiday I could not transport the body to a vet and so paid up. Then I was shown a folder of memorial urns and items I could buy. I was appalled. Grieving people do not make good choices, but usurious Agape thinks it can make more bucks by playing on our sorrow. But the real horror, after all that, was finding out my cat's cremains were being shipped through the post office--the cheapest way possible and so insulting. sending your pet home on a mail truck. I was able to get the cremains off the truck and to the vet, but for $500 I should have received Fed Ex kid glove treatment. I fault the vet clinic for using this greedy company. I have had other cats cremated and have never experienced such treatment. I just wonder if the ashes I get will be my cat's--some places take videos of their cremations, but I expect Agape has no proof the ashes are whose they say they are. Shame on them.

Not only are their prices VERY reasonable, but they communicated very clearly to me what I needed to do. Everything was handled by phone and e-mail. Kip Austin and Tiffany Rahl were both SO patient with all my questions! Even when I changed my mind at the last minute and asked them to deliver my mom's ashes to my home (because I was trying to avoid an emotion trip out to and back from Chantilly), they were just super nice about it and got me on the schedule for the very next day's delivery! Of course NO ONE wants to face the death of a loved one, but DCSV went above and beyond to make this process as painless as possible. I am beyond grateful for how they handled everything.

Two of them failed to disclose all their fees until I asked additional questions (based on my research), one of them was double the price of the other three, and the fourth one was Direct Cremation Services. I met with a gentleman named Kip, who didn't try to upsell me, and gave me a package that met my requests. The costs were significantly lower than the other three places. He assured me that Direct Cremation Services would take care of everything, and explained both the logistical process and the paperwork/payment process. When my mother passed away, on a weekend, Kip returned my (notification) call, emailed me the link to take care of the documents, and immediately send his team out to transport my mother's remains. He told me the paperwork could wait until Monday. Thereafter, everything went as promised, and I picked up my mother's "cremains" yesterday. An unbelievably smooth process during a difficult time. I can't recommend this place enough.

He took action and arranged to have her immediately transferred to Harrisburg even though it was in the middle of a snowstorm. At a time when we were grieving and simply trying to understand what needed to be done, we were made to feel as though our questions were an inconvenience. I understand that funeral and cremation professionals deal with death every day, but the families they serve do not. For us, this was a son, a brother, our loved one, and one of the most painful experiences of our lives. Compassion, patience, and basic kindness should be the bare minimum in this profession. Based on my family's experience, I cannot recommend Maryland Cremation Services. Families dealing with the death of someone they love deserve to be treated with dignity, patience, empathy, and respect. Unfortunately, that was not the experience we received here.

As for anyone in this situation, I had non stop calls from other funeral homes, family & friends. I never responded to them, so they took it upon themselves to pick father's body up w/o authorization or payment. The company I did hire, called the hospital to arrange pick up only to find out that he wasn't there! I was mortified! The hospital refused to give me any information on my father's where abouts. THEN Kellen from Harmans calls my son And leaves a message that my father was in their care. He was mortified because we discussed the arrangements. I called Kellan and she told me because she had phone number she was able do pick him up & she did me favor because after 3 days his body would go to the state crematory!!!Lies! The hospital and the company I chose confirmed that was a lie, as we had already had a plan in place. Both WVU Medicine & Harmans broke state laws! Neither of them will answer my calls and refuse to give an explanation as to how this happened! They won't respond to calls or emails.They wanted to secure that $ by picking him up! I even told them I'd like to discuss this matter & find resolution before leaving a review! They still failed to respond. No answer doesn't equate to removing someone's deceased loved one without a contract or authorization. Despicable! Do me a favor don't do me any favors! They refuse to return my father's body to the hospital or the correct funeral home! They made them come pick him up which was another 30 mins out of their way. Disgusting!
