He took the time to explain her symptoms, the possible causes, and why he was recommending each medication, making sure we understood everything before starting treatment. A couple of days later, my husband developed painful bumps after snorkeling off the Nā Pali Coast. Dr. Sparks was able to diagnose it from photos as a Portuguese man o' war sting. My niece had the same reaction, and he helped her as well. Once again, he took the time to educate us about the local marine life, the toxins involved, what symptoms to watch for, and how the prescribed medications would help. I especially appreciated how thoughtful and cautious he was with the medications he prescribed. What really sets Dr. Sparks apart is that he truly cares. He reminded me of the kind of village doctor everyone hopes to find--knowledgeable, compassionate, reassuring, and willing to spend the time you need. His mobile service was incredibly convenient. Dr Lanson's schedule is a busy one, but I feel that I am able to get an appointment with him in the same week that I call. It may not be the same day, but they try to accommodate you to the best of their ability. He sees patients in Lihue Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and half day on Friday.
