Major disappointment. This restaurant has been on my list for awhile and finally made it in to try. I will say, the atmosphere is great and a very nice place to have drinks, so I'd recommend the bar area. Having eaten in a number of fine dining restaurants over the years and reading the reviews for Poulet Bleu, I was anticipating a top notch experience. However, the service was lacking and the food was under par. Our waiter offered essentially no recommendations other than the dreaded 'everything on the menu is good.' That's always a first sign. On to the food....first, no bread to start, which we seemed to be the only table missed. We started with the Burgundy Escargot which was the oddest escargot I've ever had. Way too oily and way way too much lemon. We moved on to the French onion soup, which was just alright. The cheese was quite clumpy, there wasn't a balanced ratio of oxtail to other ingredients (too much) and one of our soups barely had any broth. Dinner time...our waiter got my order wrong, serving me gnocchi instead of duck. No, doesn't sound similar, I know. The filet was average at best and the bordelaise sauce was over the top salty! Paired with the heaping pile of salty frites, you could be awake all night drinking water after that. Oh, and my duck finally arrived. Bland as could be. Last, was a side of the Brussel sprouts which were the worst Brussels I've ever eaten. Period. They were burnt yet soggy at the same time, completely saturated by the overly tangy bacon jam and other mystery liquid. So, now that I've written this review I've dropped my rating to two stars because the only reason you pay good money for dinner is really for the meal. I can't say it was worth it just because it's a 'nice, intimate restaurant.' And let's remember this was a Friday night, which should be one of the best. read more

I was definitely not disappointed at my experience at Poulet Bleu. Honestly, the best dish that I ordered was the steamed carrots if you can believe that or not! I tasted the bistro burger and I was amazing but I ordered the gnocchi. First visit here tonight with my husband, and Poulet Bleu did not disappoint. We had scallops and crispy duck to start followed by the beef bourguignon and gnocchi and finished with the chocolate soufflé. Everything was absolutely amazing! Iv been waiting to come here for so long so I'm glad they are still able to be open! I had called a couple hours before our reservation to request a table on the first floor inside because the decor is amazing. The outdoor seating is cute but I'm personally glad I called and they graciously gave us an amazing table. We started with two French 75 cocktails that were great then got a side of the pomme frites. I would highly recommend them. The garlic aioli was incredible. For our entrees we got the duck and the parsnip risotto. I knew I would like the duck but I never thought I would love the risotto so much. Both were great. Definitely leave room for dessert because the chocolate mousse may have been my favorite part. My cousin and I were celebrating our birthdays so we were so excited to see a candle in it. She also loved her creme brûlée. Overall the meal was amazing and we can't wait to come back! read more

Does not live up to the hype. French onion soup was something I can make at home and properly season. Steak tartare, though the black garlic purée was smooth and delicious, the tartare itself had fat gristle within it. The gnocchi with white bean was smothered in calabarian chili which took away from the beans, housemade gnocchi and roasted mushrooms. Little of that chili goes a long way. Now the burger was the most hyped up item and fell many feet short. A Big Mac would have sufficed over What was served to me, and not at the temp I ordered. Now the finale, our chocolate soufflé was raw in the middle and for someone who was classically trained in French cuisine this was absurd to me. Then when mentioned it was raw, no chef or manager even bothered to come to the table to have a discussion about it. For the money being charged I would expect great spectacular food, but unfortunately This entire experience fell very short of what was expected. read more

This time when we went back the food was once again excellent: the carrots were again superlative, the little gem salad was simple and flavorful, the scallops super yummy (although please bring back the amazing preparation with the English peas!), and the wine list interesting and inventive (yay for half glasses!). Amazing is honestly the only way to describe our dinner last night! The service and atmosphere were both spot on. The weather was beautiful and we sat outside on the patio. We started with the escargot, caviar chips and dip (mp $40h), and beef tartare. These were all super rich and delicious. We shared the wagyu beef chef's cut medium rare for dinner (mp $40) and it was ridiculously tender and prepared perfectly with a side of crispy frites. The side of carrots was accompanied by hazelnuts and a light whipped french cheese. We ended with the soufflé, which was the perfect dessert. They also have a fun cocktail menu with some twists on classic drinks and a great wine menu by the glass. The service was exceptional from the moment we walked in until we left (I think our server's name was Jennifer and she was fab). This place is a must visit in PGH. It certainly isn't cheap, but it is absolutely worth every penny! read more

Perfect place for a night celebrating a special occasion!! Cutest spot in Lawrenceville. We sat on the rooftop and watched the sunset, and they offered us blankets which we did take advantage of. The service was great, and waiters and waitresses were very attentive. The food was not as expected though. I came to eat here for the second time because there is a lot of hype around this restaurant and restaurant group, and I figured maybe my first visit was a dud. Every dish I tried was overpowered with salt. The beef entree and the French onion soup were almost inedible because of the saltiness. I don't mind salty food and is excepted with French food, but this was extreme during both visits. Hope for improvements. read more

Overall, the ambience was very nice and the service was very good, COVID friendly . It might be my own personal preference and what had happened during my particular experience but it was a bit noisy and might have had to do with other customers at the time but it was hard to hear conversation at my table and there were about 3 other occupied tables around me. We ordered the mussels (which were well seasoned but also not fresh :(), the steak tartare (which I particularly liked) and the french onion soup from the appetizers. They were all pretty good but I would not say they are worth the price if not for the setting of the restaurant. The filet mignon and duck was very good and the meat of good quality. The only thing was that everything was a touch too salty, from the fries to the halibut and the parsnip risotto but that may just be a personal preference. Again, overall a great place but don't expect much privacy as their dining space is pretty open! read more

I made a reservation for Poulet Bleu on Yelp about 2 weeks ago (to fit my schedule not because they didn't have reservations earlier) which was really easy and I especially liked how i got a text reminder and could refer back to the reservation time in the Yelp app. Once we arrived we were seated upstairs, where the decor was so charming and quaint. we ordered the warm olives, the aligot potatoes, the bistro salad, the gnocchi and the trout, and finished with the giant chocolate souffle. I really enjoyed the warm olives, the aligot potatoes were really good - but the dish wasn't served so hot more like warm - for a cheesy dish that something you want to be particular about, i LOVED the gnocchi and found them to be cooked perfectly and were really tasty, and my husband really liked his trout. The souffle is definitely a dish i would say is for two based on all the topping and portion size. I wasn't really that impressed with the taste of it and felt like the chocolate flavor was just ok could've been richer or just MORE flavor - I wish I had gone with my instinct to order the chocolate mousse - but there is always next time! The service was impeccable and I will definitely be returning. This is a great spot for a date or a place to have a dinner to impress. read more

Our experience at Poulet Bleu was phenomenal. The service was top notch, the food was second to none, and even with Covid-19 restrictions in place, the whole evening was fantastic. We visited for my wife's birthday, and they did not disappoint. The staff was beyond friendly (almost ever server, hostess, and manager made a point to come over to my wife to say happy birthday). Our server was knowledgeable, patient, personable, responsive, and every other positive adjective I can think of. The special of the evening was the Chateaubriand. It was out of this world. If you get the chance to try this at Poulet Bleu, do yourself a favor. You will be blown away! It feels like you are truly in a little cafe in France. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable about the french wine and cuisine, the service was speedy, and the dessert was to die for. The food here is spectacular, I ordered the Waygu special with the foie supplement and the béarnaise sauce. The steak was the best I have had in my life, if not the best dish in my life. This is the only place in Pittsburgh that serves true French cuisine at an elevated level. My only gripe was that the frites aren't severed with an aioli, I had to request it. I had a country pate for an appetizer along side warm olives and a locally baked baguette. The atmosphere is spot on with beautiful decor and most seats have a great view of the chefs working the pass. Again the only reason for my four star review, as apposed to the five, was our service. Our server was at our table every 5 minuets. I appreciate attentive service but she asked us if we wanted to order the soufflé four times because it takes 30 minuets to bake. Lots of hype about this place so I grabbed a reservation when I saw one available. Very cute decor. Nice atmosphere. Great location. Lovely wine list. Solid service. Underwhelmed by the food. The best dish we had was the cheese plate. Steak tartare was a little funky for me. Didn't like the texture of the meat at all. Husband had beef borgueione (sp?) and it was ok. I had trout almondine and it had zero flavor. Like not one punch of salt in the entire dish. The carrots were good but the creme fraiche was odd. The marbled potatoes were just not good at all. The creme brûlée was so so and the chocolate mousse was standard. Really disappointed overall. Maybe we chose the wrong items but not sure we will go back. read more

Fantastic. It is literally perfect. Quaint atmosphere; unobtrusive service; soft lighting and music but yet bright and blocking out other people's conversations. The food prep (that we tried) was perfect. Happy salads; Soup, seasoned so that each ingredient can be tasted. Freaking perfect soups. Roasted chicken, crispy outer/tender inner, again with the perfect accompaniment of rutabaga and sauce. Roasted carrots with creme fraiche (chives and brown sugar? who would put these together - only kitchen geniuses. Mussels and frites. Oh my lord the frites. We have all had frites. Said to myself, am I eating air touched with potato? Light, airy, (mine served without salt) you would swear they were air fried. The freaking souffle. If you hate chocolate get the soufflé. It is that good. Side note on the (floor and bathroom) tile. I had picked this tile for our kitchen and was told a few days later it was sold out. Now I know why! I wonder where these "fantastic" reviews come from for this restaurant. I imagine many people really don't know or know how to prepare really delicious food. The meal we had last night was just OK at best. 2 1/2 stars is a generous rating. What really seemed disproportionate was the quality of the meal and the price charged for an OK meal at best. We split an onion soup, 2 cocktails, a bottle of the cheapest pinot, 2 entrees and split a dessert. The bill was just shy of $300, tip included. They don't provide an itemized receipt for the customer so I didn't check the itemized receipt there on the spot. When I got home, it hit me that $300 was way way too much money for the mediocre meal we had. At home I tabulated what we ordered based on their online menu and it was $196. The bill received was $241 and with a generous 20% tip came to $286. If I'm completely wrong in my math we were overcharged $90! The food was certainly not worth this much. There are far far better restaurants to go to in Pittsburgh with better food and better prices. Very disappointing and feeling very much cheated! read more
