Old Style Hot Tamales 2004 1/2 Claire Avenue…read moreGretna, La 70053-4448 I had been asking around inquiring about who was one of the best tamale makers in greater New Orleans and statewide. Well 4 out of every 5 said, Old Style Hot Tamales. I called them because I was needing quite a few for an event coming up in a few days. I spoke with the youngest of the children of the Buwes, who built this dynasty. I told Don Buwe about the feed back from my inquiry and told him what I needed, and when I would need them. Don Buwe said let me check, I'll call you back with availability, Hence , I placed my order. It arrived a couple Of days later as I requested, I tasted the product and I can honestly say, " these are the best Hot Tamales I have ever eaten". They were the right size, the right amount of spice, the right amount of meat, and the flour/Mesa was unlike any I've ever tasted. There was a buttery taste, and the gravy was a beautiful brownish red, nat'ually Nu' Awlins y'all, just the right weight for the tamales to soak in, uh huh. Oooh mah gawd,! I think my mouth turned into a tamale conveyor belt! The matriarch and the late patriarch of this company needs to be given the congressional Metal for their Hot Tamale Product. Every event I have in the future will be an Old Style Hot Tamale theme. Dat's right, it's my pawdy and I'll serve Old Style Hot Tamales if I want to. The Buwes have several stands, the website has the locations. You can call and place orders for pick up fresh out of the pot. The Buwes tamales under the same name Old Style Hot Tamales are sold in our local markets. All calls are turned in ample time. If you have a big order call and see if you can be accommodated. This is a family that goes back many decades with a nat'ually nu'awlins product. I met Don and his mother and I was totally delighted. They feel the heartbeat of Louisiana in every way. They have made big changes having the tamale stands accessible for every one since Covid-19. Let's keep these Old Style Hot Tamales thriving, they are uhmmmmm uhmmmmmm good y'all. This is "MO" checking out, be mindful, prayerful and tamale y'all! I will follow up with pics this week.

It's a one stop shop for your taste buds to travel Latin America- no passport or cash needed. They had food vendors from Mexico all the way to the Dominican Republic. We tried shakes from Honduras- we picked strawberry and guyabano. Both flavors were delicious and cooled us down. Next we got carne asada arepas from Colombia, the meat was seasoned so well and it was oozing with cheese. We played it safe and got tacos from the Mexican spot. They were delicious! The tortillas were freshly pressed and the meat was loaded. They also give you a red salsa and green. I wish we would've left room for dessert because there were some good looking dessert options. I will definitely be back! If you do stop by, bring your appetite and athleisure wear (it's hot and you will leave with a full belly).

The food court offered mostly Latin/South American options. I really wanted some french fries but could not find any. For a nice Saturday afternoon, I wanted to see more of the vendors open for business. I do like the fixed structure of the flea market versus the typical mobile structure you usually see.
