For my flight I picked: The Horchata Latte which was my favorite of the flight! It has a great horchata flavor, light cinnamon, creamy and all without being overly sweet. The Banana Latte was my second favorite in terms of flavor. I wasn't a big fan of the chunky texture from the smashed banana (not something I enjoy in coffee in general), but the banana flavor itself wasn't overpowering, which I really liked. The Mazapan Cold Brew was my third favorite. It's a true cold brew topped with a delicious cold foam. Last but not least the Cafe de Olla Cold Brew was a solid and strong cold brew with a creamy finish. While there I ordered the Macadamia Nut Latte just to try which tasted exactly as expected smooth and nutty, but just ok. I also ordered my absolute favorite coffee at Carino Cafe which is the Cortadillo Latte. It was so good the last time that I had to get a large this time! This Carino Coffee Cafe location offers both indoor and outdoor seating, making it a great place to relax, study, and socialize. They serve coffee until 4pm then transition into Rabbit's Got the Gun a bar that's open until 2am, which is honestly like experiencing two spots in one. The service was excellent, the drinks were creative and well made (all iced with almond milk). I'd definitely recommend checking this coffee shop out if you're in the area!

I've been meeting up with a good friend weekly for coffee mostly on weekends, and we decided to try for a Friday morning so my Yelp search pulled up Katz. I had just read an article about Avi Katz (I'm a huge fan) in the Spring Branch magazine, so it was like it was meant to be! Now keep in mind they don't open until 9 am so it's not a good caffeine pick-me-up option for early risers nor those who need to get to the office before 9 am, but if you can make it during their business hours, it's certainly worth it. I'll walk you through the experience. I arrived to an empty parking lot at 8:45 am and sat in my car. Note: the lot isn't too big with limited spaces, but spots constantly open up after the morning rush) I started seeing other cars pull into the lot so I got out and hovered near the front door. By the time they opened (exactly at 9 am), the line was 10 people deep, but I was in front. I decided to go easy with a morning brew drip coffee so I wouldn't hold up the line behind me. And if you've read the reviews or you're familiar with how Katz's works - the coffee was free! That's my favorite f word. I sat down, enjoyed the nice ambiance (lots of seating and pleasant decor), chatted with my friend, and the rest is history. Staff are super nice and we chatted for a bit as well. I truly appreciate what Katz Coffee means to the local community, and I'll continue purchasing their high quality coffee beans to support the business, but also because I just really like their coffee. And if you read their story on their website, it's actually really inspiring how Katz Coffee really gives back to the community with non-profits and other worthy organizations. Astounding and mind-blowing, actually. Parking is a bit limited here, which is a bit similar to the parking nearby at Karbach Brewery, but the parking here IS better than Karbach Brewing, and just a heads up, the gate in the back does open to those exiting the lot, so don't feel pressured to have to park in the front area - you can park along the side with the Katz trucks which is along a one-way road. One downside is the place opens at 9am, which perhaps doesn't lend itself to the pre-work, get-the-day-started crowd. Then again, it's free coffee, so this is so so understandable because the crowd would likely build to unfathomable levels if the place opened at, say, 6am. Plus, come on - the baristas are doing their part making free coffee for the customers, so obviously there is some grace here. It feels like the get-the-day-started-at-9am crowd for free coffee does tend to arrive the minute the place opens, so a line does tend to build for the first bit but then kind of dips back down again after the initial rush - something to keep in mind when planning your visit. The vibe is fantastic. So many tables, easy place to camp out and work or meet up with people. Really earthy interior design. The service is also top notch. Keep in mind these people are giving us free coffee, which Katz certainly doesn't HAVE to do. The baristas today during my visit were SO friendly and SO welcoming. I started with a drip coffee, which came blazing hot and fresh. Didn't add any creamers or sugar, and it was great. Then, for variety purposes, I tried their pumpkin chai latte. Delicious again. And again... FREE. It really doesn't get any better than this for bang for the buck, while also supporting community causes in Houston. So for those visiting, it is encouraged to perhaps buy a bag of coffee beans, whether it be for yourself or as a gift for others. The beans are obviously of great quality, given the taste. My thought is all of us should do our part to help ensure Katz Coffee is able to sustain their generous (and tasty) ways as much as we possibly can.
