    Posty the cat
    Bradley L.

Post Beer & Wine is one of those neighborhood spots that instantly makes a bar crawl better. We stopped in during a crawl and ended up lingering longer than planned, which feels like the best compliment you can give a place. We enjoyed a glass or two of wine, tossed some darts, and soaked in the relaxed, unpretentious vibe. It is casual in the right way. Easy to talk, easy to stay, and not trying too hard to be anything other than a solid local bar. The real highlight, though, is Posty the bar cat. An adorable black and white cat who clearly runs the place. Getting to know Posty outside was an unexpected and genuinely charming moment that made the stop memorable. If you are a cat person, this alone will win you over. Even if you are not, it is hard not to smile. Great drinks, darts, friendly energy, and a bar cat that steals the show. Post Beer & Wine is exactly the kind of place you hope to find when hopping around Houston, and absolutely worth a stop even if you are not on a crawl.

Smoked beef pot roast! With mashed potatoes!!

I'm a regular but recently Post Beer changed their menu on Wednesday to be pot luck. I showed up and had their smoked beef pot roast! On top of mashed potatoes. Incredible beef that fell apart and no need to chew. Very tender! Staff is always friendly and hopefully the pot roast will be back soon.

Oh my god this place is good I don't even know where to begin. It's the perfect local neighborhood dive bar with a wonderful unique wine selection and the most delicious smash burger you'll ever have in your life. Our bartender was super knowledgeable about the wine which I very much appreciated. I can't wait to come back!

Amazing food, amazing staff, amazing experience every time. Colton is the man. This is the best burger in Houston. Make sure to add grilled jalapeños.

The internet speed is blazing fast for a wine and beer garden. I could take my meetings here

Disclaimer: I'm on a hunt for the best restaurant to work from as I'm working remote. My review is based on factors for a good place to work from and not necessarily the drinks or food. Overall great restaurant for work and drinks. Noise level - 60db quiet conversation Wifi speed - 111 down 127 up (zoom meeting friendly) Power plugs - Unsure. Did not manage to see. Seats - 30-40 indoors Parking - free 10 lots and more on street AC indoors was cold like in 60F. The staff were friendly but the food took around 20 minutes to get ready. The food is delicious and flavour is on point. Happy hour wine at $6 from 4pm-6pm is great. I'd not recommend the outdoor seating as the flies and mosquitoes are annoying.

I came here on a Sunday night after having some drinks across the street at Lei Low. It's such a great neighborhood bar with lots of seatings, a large bar area, and good food and a wonderful wine selection. It is a Beer and Wine Garden, there's no liquor. There's games like jenga and a selection of table top games you can choose from to play with your buddies. We played darts, drank beer, and shared a juicy cheeseburger with some crispy fries. I would like to return during steak night. The restrooms were clean, staff was friendly and polite. Overall good vibes.

Another new place tried and liked. Bartenders, wait staff, managers, owners - all very nice and welcoming. They have a nice wine and beer selection, but know their non-alcoholic selection is very limited. Impressed with their menu items - we ordered appetizers, tacos, mac and cheese and a dessert. Highly recommend the brie grilled cheese - bites or sandwich - and the pretzel beignets. Also, Tuesday night is steak night. I'm not a red meat eater, but the outdoor grill area smelled REALLY good!

This place has great chill vibes but also has great quality wine and food. I've enjoyed going there to read a book alone a glass of wine, a girl's night, or on a date night. I had gone a couple times without food, and when I finally tried it, I was pleasantly surprised! My boyfriend and I loved the pretzel (him, being a pretzel expert of Houston, declared it the 'Best Pretzel of Houston') and grilled Brie sandwiches the most. But, the olives were great and the quesadilla had great flavor so you can't go wrong there either. We can't wait to go back one day to try the rest of the menu and the desserts! The place can get a little busy but the service is great and they will recommend great wines based on your mood and food.

What a gem! It was Yelp ftw on this one. After hurricane Beryl a lot of places are still closed due to no power, and it's hard to find a place to eat other than what you stocked up on. I literally called Burger Bodega, Toasted Coconut, Rodeo Goat, and maybe a few others that I can't remember atm, but no one was answering until...The Post Beer and Wine Garden! Clearly, I was craving a burger and fries. Haha. I was told that they are quick to open after a storm and also have backup generators. Good for them!! So, we drove here since it was 9 minutes down from where we live. It is across from Lei Low and a block from one of my favorite Mexican restaurants , Puebla's. There's ample parking on a gravel lot, and I was able to find an open spot. The place has plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. Love the white picnic benches under the covered patio. You place your order at the bar using the QR code. It was popping for a Wednesday night post hurricane. I think people just wanted great comfort food and A/C. Tuesdays are steak nights, and I overheard they had tomahawk steaks the night before. Wednesdays are pasta nights with wine. The bartender explained to a customer that it was worth buying a wine bottle than 3 glasses of wine. Very cost effective and appreciated his honesty. Not gonna lie, but I wanted to try a lot of other items on the menu. I was on a mission though. Needed to focus on the burger and fries, so my date and I ordered cheeseburgers that came with fries. We sat at the bar which was a nice touch cause the Stros game was on the large screen. I will say that the counter stools are lower than the bar top, which makes it a little trickier to eat for a shortie like me. Haha. I dealt with it, so no biggie! We added an extra of sautéed jalapeños with our burgers. Didn't have to wait long. The food is made to order in the little trailer outside. Most people were ordering cheeseburgers, pasta, or a ribeye. Mmm. All sounded and looked great! The cheeseburger was a double patty smash burger that came with caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and mustard. I asked for mayo on the side. I expected the cheeseburger to be huge because of the description, but it wasn't. Perfectly fine cause it filled me up! It was packed with flavor and had the right amount of spice with the added jalapeños. I'm all about good fries, and the seasoning was great. From photos of other reviewers, it seems like they switch it up sometimes from crinkle to not. Either way, I'm sure it's great. We loved the food, and if my date said "great choice" then I'll take it cause he's a CDC (Chef de Cuisine). I told him that Yelp never fails me. ;) There's a few beers on tap, beer cans, wine, soda cans, and water. The ambiance is great. It's a chill space. Not expecting all the space from the outside. You can get darts to play. It is dim like other reviewers mentioned, and I saw one of the bartenders dim it more from a switch at the bar as the night went on. You could tell customers who were regulars cause they knew them by name. Service was excellent, and everyone was so friendly. I definitely want to try steak night here, as well as their other food items! Thank you for being open for great food and fellowship!

10oz filet mignon for both of us. So tender. Perfectly done! I added the mushroom pepper demi, and it was amazing, balanced.

Let me preface this with 'we were very hungry'. In this instance, the camera was not going to eat first! The Post had been recommended to us several time in the past, but rarely are we on this side of Heights. This day was the perfect opportunity. I had my days mixed up and sold my husband on the idea that it was steak night, when, in fact, steak night was the night prior. BUT lucky foe us, The Post serves steak every night! It's unpretentious, and I'm here for it. I'm also here for the food! Don't let the outward appearances fool you. This place is legit. Super easy to get to off Main/I-45. Ample parking. Indoor/outdoor seating (but it's August in SE Texas). Service was on point. The bartender recommended great reds to accompany our steaks. The wine list offers many great options. And my other favorite part: they're dog-friendly! They have specials throughout the week. We are eager to go back for pasta night next! *please forgive the basic photo skills.

We love this place! Parking is a little limited but it's worth it for the charm of the interior, delicious menu and great bartenders - not to mention the wide selection of wines. The vibes are immaculate. It's like dive bar met upscale wine bar and it's the perfect mix of cozy and casual. Lastly- get the burger.

The bread was very buttery and nicely toasted. The frank itself was very juicy and I loved how the pico and mustard help cut through the fat. The thing that made this hotdog stand out was the cheese sauce. The cheese sauce was delicious and I could probably have just eaten that alone. One thing though, the hotdogs were a bit on the smaller size, you probably would have to order something else or a second hotdog if you were hungry. Would come back again just for this hotdog! Parking/Service: There was a small lot on the side of the building, but other than that you might have to street park in the neighborhood right next to it. The ordering system was a bit of a surprise for me. You have to walk in to the bar and order there.

It's located right at 19th St. and Shepherd near the light. There's a small angled parking lot that can be tight when people park along the fence. It looks like a cute tiny A-frame home with a few patio tables in the front. The inner area has about 6-7 high tables. It's nice and clean inside. The vibe feels similar to H-Town Brewing Co. but on a smaller scale. You can also sit at the bar. I didn't really like the high tables/chairs. They're not as comfortable. It was hot out, and there are mosquitos, so we sat inside. I ordered the salmon plate for steak night. The drinks here are ok, and since I don't really drink, I was looking for mocktail options. In this era, most places have mocktail options with brand alternatives like Ritual, Seedlip and Lyre's or at the least, something with juice, Topo Chico and simple syrup. The female bartender made me a NA margarita which was great. I liked that she didn't make it too sweet or too tart which happens with mocktails that don't have alternatives and are mostly juice or lemon. On the other hand, when I ordered a second, the guy bartender made it too sweet. I didn't like his version. For the alcoholic versions, they seem to have good cocktails, wine, beer and flights. They also have daily specials. Aside from the steak night, they don't serve food here. It wouldn't be my first choice of bars in this area.

We were able to snag some free street parking and wandered our way into a cute setup with mood lighting and plenty of seating. There's a central bar and plenty of outdoor patio space. You can choose between 3 or 6oz pours, or a bottle. We also decided to share a cheese board with the Willoughby cheese which was soft and delicious! We came in as an impromptu visit after an earlier event and figured we'd just stop in for a glass of wine or so. Upon walking in, the place is super cute with dim lighting and was quite crowded on a Thursday night. We didn't immediately find available seating, but after a couple minutes, a table opened up and we sat there. Our primary server was Grayson, who was super knowledgeable about the wine list. Other servers tended to us throughout the night, and all were equally as knowledgeable about the menu offerings. At the time we went, they were featuring various wines from Beaujolais. We ended up trying one of these, the Alexandre Burgaud Brouilly Rouge, which was a full-bodied red. This was a great recommendation, and I will say that we didn't conclude the visit on only one of these bottles... Based on Grayson's food recommendations, we ended up ordering the Mortadella panini and a combination charcuterie board. The Mortadella panini was unique but good - tomato, mortadella, provolone, and mustard all served on a pretzel bun. Probably not my dish of choice alongside wine, however I did really like the charcuterie board. We asked them to surprise us on the cheese and meat, and they really came through. The prosciutto was tasty and the cheese (can't remember which one) had a peppery flavor to it, which paired well with our red wine. The overall clientele vibe seemed like a range of date nights, girls nights, first dates, and solo drinkers. I love the diversity! We ended up making friends with the table next to us and eventually merged tables to make this a fun group date night. Definitely a highlight of the visit. We will definitely be back sooner than later. This is a cute neighborhood bar that I look forward to returning myself and brining out-of-town guests to come experience. They also have a dog-friendly patio - something to keep in mind whenever the day calls for drinking some wine in nice outdoor weather!

They offer wines for every taste and budget, and the staff is knowledgeable when asked for recommendations. That's why this is difficult for me to write. Despite visiting frequently, I've consistently found the customer service to be unwelcoming. The service has a strange tone, and it isn't limited to one employee they all seem to share the same indifferent, slightly annoyed demeanor. The experience feels less like genuine hospitality and more like, "You're here what can I get you?" On my most recent visit, others in my group noticed and commented on the same thing without any prompting from me. Since they had never been before, it confirmed that it wasn't just my perception. One small interaction captured the overall tone. We asked whether they happened to have a birthday candle, and an employee responded in an annoyed tone by pointing to the candle on our table which, realistically, no one would put on a birthday dessert. We completely understood that they might not have one; it wasn't an unreasonable expectation or request. A simple, friendly response like, "Unfortunately, we don't, but we do have some delicious desserts," would have been perfectly fine. It wasn't the answer that bothered us. it was the way we were made to feel for asking. It may seem like a small interaction, but great hospitality is built on small moments. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and inviting, but unfortunately, the service doesn't reflect that same feeling. People return to places where they feel welcomed and appreciated, especially in a city like Houston with so many wonderful food and wine options. I genuinely want The Library to thrive because it has everything else it needs to remain a true neighborhood favorite.

It seems like there are quite a few businesses around town that are closing. I'm sad to see Mutiny go, but I'm glad my friend and I got to dine in on their final night.

"Closing time, you don't have to go home But you can't stay…read morehere." - Semisonic I have lived in the loop for 5 years now, and I'm sad to say that I finally tried Mutiny on their last day. I often pass by it going through a shortcut to I-45 and sometimes going home around the area. It's literally a 5-minute drive. I booked reservations Friday since I saw they opened up the 31st on Resy. It wasn't earlier in the week, but I knew it was the last day, and my friend and I really wanted to try. I'm glad we made reservations because they were at capacity (150 person capacity) and weren't taking any walk ins. We got there early cause Resy suggested checking out the Tasting Room before or after the reservation time. We got there about an hour earlier, and the host said he didn't know anything about that except that the Tasting Room area was used for events. Interesting. We were seated earlier on the patio on this freezing evening. At first, we were at a table that didn't have a heat lamp, but when one freed up, they were so nice to suggest that we move closer to the heat lamp since they saw us shivering. Lol. We were thankful for that. I wore fleece lined jeans and brought gloves and a beanie anyway having been in the below freezing winter in London. Laura was our server and was kind and funny. So was this other guy who checked in every now and then. He made light of their last day situation. The dining area is so beautiful inside. I love the limestone-looking interior and chandeliers. Reminds me of Fredericksburg or something. They had many large groups and a few small groups of friends or couples dining on this last day. Way to go out with a bang. A lot of the wines were selling out or already sold out around 7-8 pm. We tried the truffle fries and Sicilian meatballs with focaccia bread. I like the thick cut of the fries and the black garlic aioli. It reminded me of yuca fries. The Sicilian meatballs were a bit small, peppery and salty. I wish the marinara was a little more tart. The focaccia helped cut through the saltiness. I had 2 glasses of the NA Sauvignon blanc which was light and a little tart. They ran out of the NA red blend. My friend ordered Sayonara, one of their farewell flights which were aptly named for "goodbye". It was a great night on the patio but chilly. My friend purchased a rosé and a Pinot Grigio as part of their Last Sail wines. Actually, the Pinot Grigio wasn't part of the sale, and he was going to take off 20%, but he also made it 50% off. So nice!! I'm glad we got to try them on their last day. Bon voyage, Mutiny.

Our server was checking in on us very frequently and she explained the menu to us when we told her we hadn't been before. The manager on duty also had stopped by and introduced herself. They told us up front that tapas would be able to be out quickly with only up to a 10 minute wait but that larger plates could be up to a 45 minute wait. We ordered several tapas and one large plate half order. I don't know much about wine, personally, but the drinks we did get were amazing. The restaurant itself was very pretty as well, lots of natural lighting and then low lighting as the sun went down. The music was low and we were able to hear each other well, apart from one group across the room that would get rowdy but I can't blame them for having a good time. Our food was all delicious and I forgot to take pics of some of them because we devoured them so quickly. Not pictured, we ordered the grilled asparagus and focaccia. I highly recommend all of what we ordered.
