Once inside your greeted by intimate colors, an open dining area and a friendly crowd that appear to be from the neighborhood and they are surely regulars The restaurant has full bar service, this evening we chose wine and since it was late we opted for the small plates (which ironically are not that small) Our selections included the wedge salad - think chopped salad if you order this as that's truly what it is, the fresh tuna over arugula, orzo and tzazziki and finally the giant sea scallops We found all small plates good , ingredients were all very fresh and portions respectable. Beyond just a good rating, the sea scallops were unbelievable The scallops were hard seared first, the finished in the oven in a large rammacan with a poached butter sauce. DELICIOUS without compromising the butteryness texture of the scallops and the flavor -YUM Service was great, all were friendly and the POUR RICHARDS special made table crackers are worthy of asking for seconds Hope I can visit again and try other items read more

Poor Richard's is a little secret gem of Bluffton. My husband I are grateful to have discovered it. The owners are Ali and Richard, together are a very cool couple! Richard creates a new menu every night. He using ingredients that are in season. His savory creations are a delight to the palette!! Ali is a pastry chef, her desserts are delightful!!! Tonight we stopped by for a quick dinner. I ordered the Lobster Roll, Richard is from New England so he knows how to make a lobster roll!!! It was delicious, served with potato salad and watermelon. My husband had the pizza with fried chicken on it... he said I'm going to eat only half of this... well as he was going in for the last slice I reminded him... he said, it was just so good!!! We couldn't leave without having Ali's famous pecan checkered pie with vanilla ice cream... While every bite of it is delicious, I just love the buttery crust soooo much!!!! I'd say tonight's visit to Poor Richard's is like every other visit... it was SPECTACULAR!!! So go have a nice meal at Poor Richard's try to reserve a seat at the Bar... you'll really enjoy that!!! With out a doubt one of the TOP restaurants in the low country of Bluffton South Carolina. Pour Richard's is one of the few consistent restaurants in Bluffton. Pour Richard's is a true hidden gem in Bluffton , SC . The chief acquires the freshest seafood and ingredients. Fantastic atmosphere and the service is the best on the island and Bluffton. The menu offers small plates and full entrees. Dinner Specials are also available nightly. This is my go to spot in Bluffton and it always delivers. Literally some of the BEST food I've ever had! My bf and I were in town for the weekend and we stopped here for dinner. I had the oysters Florentine & it was amazinggg. My bf had the lamb chops with shepherds pie. Cooked to perfection. I also ordered the surf & turf pizza which was also very good. I was stuffed and could barely finish. My bf ordered the blackened steak/shrimp which were really good. Definitely try this place out if you're in the area. Our server Delina was super nice and attentive. This week my family and I decided to give Pour Richard's a try after hearing some good things. Upon arrival we realized they don't post menus online because the food is "seasonal" but in reality they just don't want people seeing the prices. We decided to stay anyway because they must be making fantastic food if they charge 60-100 dollars a plate....wow were we wrong. Not only was the food nothing special... it was actually bad. The 80 dollar steak tasted very similar to a 15 dollar grocery store cut and other entrees made you left wondering why didn't I walk out when they charged me for water at the start. If you and your family are deciding between Pour Richards and McDonald's... just know the only difference is McDonald's doesn't sell T-shirts off the wall. read more

Although the food was enjoyable, most dishes are not unique enough nor good enough to justify the prices. For example, 2 Thai meatballs with glass noodles for $18 ? We spent $150 for a bottle of wine, 1 bowl of soup, 1 salad, an appetizer and 1 shared dessert. From when Allie the desert chef and owner meets you at the door; and when Leah rolls through the daily ( changes daily!) menu, you'll find this more than a dinner! I think maybe we were oversold on this place before we got there. Had high hopes. My martini would have fit in a shot glass. Ice particles floating around. Hate that. Bad start. Wedge salad was fair at best. Wife's onion soup was bland. Blackened ribeye was dry and lacked seasoning. Actually more charred than anything. Topped with fried shrimp (why?) which were also dried out. Never had overcooked shrimp in Bluffton before. Hmm. Sides were... meh. At $45, way overpriced. My wife had a pizza. It was decent but $18? This place has fantastic servers and the food is to die for! My party's server was a really nice man who went over the whole menu in detail when I told him I'm pescatarian. He told me which dishes I would like because I like seafood and told me about what was in every dish. The wedge salad is the best I've EVER had (and I'm a huge salad person). The Oyster pie was different than anything I've ever had and honestly so good! I recommend you make a reservation if you plan to go here (which you should) because my mom and I got the last table that wasn't reserved. If you're not one of their local regulars be prepared to be treated like an outsider and get terrible service. My husband and I ate there one time were sat at the very far end the bar away from everyone. We are locals, but we don't come in often. It felt like we were being stared at the entire time. I didn't feel welcome at all. The hostess was especially short and rude. Made a snotty comment on how you don't get in usually without a reservation. Clearly we were branded as outsiders as soon as she realized we didn't have a reservation. The food was really good but that doesn't make up for the crappy experience. There's no shortage of good seafood in the Bluffton/Hilton Head area, and Pour Richard's is no exception in this regard. What sets Pour Richard's apart is the exceptional atmosphere and excellent service. From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted with a wonderful smile and a catering to our every need. We were told to not even look at the menu because we were there to relax. The waitress for our table explained the specials and our dinner options almost like a performance, with emphasis on all the right words to make our mouths water. There were enough options that everyone at the table was able to try something different. For myself, I tried the flounder, with was juicy and flaky at the same time. It came with linguine and mussels to make it a full on seafood experience. I wasn't as big of a fan of the bedding that it came on top of, but the overall meal was nothing to complain about. It was just the right portion and left enough room for dessert. All in all, I was very impressed. I will definitely be looking to come back when I can! read more

Just finished having small plates ( not really small). I had the short ribs on noodles. So tender and the broth delicious . Hubby had the spicy tuna ( not really ) on ramens w broth and he loved it. The food was creative and was hard to choose our dishes.. all sounded exciting. Our server was engaging, knowledgeable and accommodating. Richard stopped by and chatted and it made the meal even more enjoyable learning some background and meeting the man with such great vision. Ally s desserts were delicious and soooo good. We are so happy to have found Pour Richards! We were looking for a nice meal to celebrate our anniversary and from what I was able to glean online we were very excited to give them a try. We could not be happier with the experience. We were warmly greeted and were seated immediately even though we were thirty minutes early. The service was excellent without being intrusive and the food was amazing. One of the most enjoyable meals I've ever had. Went in to celebrate our 24th anniversary. Obviously full of people who go in a lot as they got a lot of attention. Server was friendly and food was above average. Regulars seemed to get some crispy breadsticks to snack on, we did not. Wife asked if her choice was spicy and was told "no". It was too spicy. My glass of wine ordered before the entree was to come out never arrived. We were comped a dessert to take to go, but wasn't that impressive nor worth the $12 price tag it would have carried. I don't usually write a bad review but had to in this circumstance. I had their $10 Chopped Wedge salad which was average. The Short Rib Pho, under the small plate section, at $16 was an insult to the word Pho. Traditional Pho (and I've been to Vietnam) has more than 6 noodles in it. Our waitress, Jordan, was pleasant and provided good service. I'll agree with the other reviewer, the owner needs a lesson in customer service. With all the wonderful restaurants in our area, Pour Richards falls to the bottom of my list. A message to the owners --- don't try to charge those prices in a restaurant with a TV above patron's heads and overhead lights that dim and brighten every few minutes. It was OK, but not for the $$$. Sat at the bar. Service for us was above average, engaging and entertaining. We liked it. Food? Overpriced given the atmosphere. Don't get me wrong. Atmosphere is warm and comfortable--just not at this price point. We expected something differently. Ribeye was good (but not great). Whole flounder was fresh but collards seemed to be lacking of flavor. It was "good",...but not great. Liquor also a bit overpriced for the environment. Would we return? Pour Richards is a quaint little restaurant in Bluffton, SC that offers some of the food in the area (and that includes Hilton Head). Some of the food can be a little pricy, but it can also be very affordable if you order the small plates or flatbreads (which are made in a stone fire oven). All of the entrees that my wife and I have tried have been excellent. That includes what is permanently on the menu and the ones that are specials. I'd definitely recommend Pour Richards to anyone staying in the area. Make sure you make reservations though, because the place fills up fast! read more

Let me start by saying that the food here was incredible. There is a unique creativity that goes into the creation of each dish and I was extremely impressed with each item I ordered from the menu. The bartender who served me was cheerful and polite and very knowledgeable about the menu. The reason for the poor review comes solely from the experience I had with the female owner/manager (so I assume). I sat at the bar earlier in the evening on a Wednesday, between 5:30-6, so as not to take up valuable table space since I was dining solo. After my meal, I was forced to handle a rather time sensitive matter regarding some business, and I stepped outside to take a phone call (which I had informed the bartender I needed to do so she wouldn't think I was pulling a dine and dash). Since I desired to stay for a bit longer and enjoy my wine and possibly order dessert, I did not close my ticket. It was too loud to take the call in the restaurant and I did not wish to be rude to the others sitting at the bar. When I came back inside, I went to sit at my place at the bar, only to be told by the owner that she had a reservation for two coming in and needed my seat. There were plenty of open tables in the restaurant, so I was unsure why she needed that particular seat. Not only did she move me without asking, she moved my water glass to a new spot wedged between two other couples and informed me that "your water is right there". As someone who worked in the service industry before, I was appalled at this behavior. She never once asked me if I would mind moving, never apologized for the inconvenience, and worst of all - handled a beverage without my knowledge and never bothered to even offer a new glass of water. Treating paying customers like second rate patrons is never acceptable. I hate writing this review because the food here really is fantastic but it's certainly not worth being treated like that. read more

We had an excellent dinner at Pour Richards . It was our first time and our waitress very patiently when over the menu. I had the lobster roll with a side of potato salad. The roll was small but delicious and the potato salad was the best I ever had. My husband had the tuna special and did everything but lick the plate.
