There are so many options, so come prepared to chose wisely. We went with the classic. The team got it out to us quickly and were friendly. Perhaps all poutine is like this, but the cheese was quite rubbery. I wasn't sure if it was real cheese. The gravy had good flavor, but I couldn't get passed the weird texture of the cheese. We came here on Friday December 20th in the early evening and ordered to go. The place was empty - we initially wanted to order online but noticed the menu was different, less selection, so came in person. We tried one of their smashburgers and a poutine which featured cheese curds, as well as cheddar cheese, green onions and sour cream. The food was delicious but my only complaint is the very small portion size and high price. The burger by itself is over $10 and is super thin - I understand the concept of smash burgers but was surprised it did not come with fries or a drink for that price. The poutine I chose was a "regular" size but felt like a small. The food is also packaged in these cardboard take out boxes which are not lined or waxed so unfortunately most of the sauce absorbs through the paper. There are lots of different container options such as alimunium or waxed cardboard that can be used which would be a more ideal choice especially for poutine. This is just bad planning. read more

My best advice is get several small versions of poutine and share. I had The MLT which was fantastic and da hubs had The Centrale (classic). Fried pickles are sweet if that's not your jam. First time having poutine and was not disappointed. We ordered the Verdun and poulet au buerre. The large portions are good for 2 people. The Verdun is ground beef and bacon mixed with green beans, and the poulet au buerre is basically chicken Tikka masala. Both were great and quite filling. None of us have had the fabled "smoked meat" before and that paired with the pickles on top of a classic style poutine was just amazing. The staff were sweet, and vibe of this place was super hip, super cozy, Edison bulbs... you know the stuff. Ca y est, this is the real thing (if you want to be the purist in the bunch, order the classic smoked meat version), with more than a dozen varieties from which to choose, and way too many good aromas as you walk in. During the busier part of lunch, it gets crowded, and it can take a few minutes for your order to be made, but that proves they're making the fries fresh. Beverage options are 3 types of beers and several options for soda (and I learned the French for Root Beer). Seating options are a couple of larger tables in the center, and table space along the walls, all with "log" type seats. It's not the most comfortable option, but that's not the part of your body you're trying to satisfy when you visit here. After giving the spot a quick Yelp once-over, we decided that this would be my first Montreal poutine, and boy, was I happy we choose Poutine Centrale! My wife ordered La Pulled Pork, and I ordered La General Tao. The fries could have been eaten by thenself as they were crisp and delicious. The gravey was amazing, cheese curds squishy, and the other toppings were fresh and did not disappoint. On top of the absolutely delicious poutines, the owners, a wonderful couple, were very kind and accomidating. The ambiance of Poutine Centrale is amazing! Well done to the owners for putting together a poutine spot that anyone would be happy to sit down at with friends or a date while enjoying one of the best poutines this dude from Toronto has ever had! I ordered the large Jacqueline poutine. I love the mix of bacon, cheese, shallots and sour cream. It's a really beautiful marriage between all of that and the crispy fries. My eating partner got Le Cheese Bacon and they said it was delicious and the bread (ciabatta style) really made it stand out. Only downside was that the fries were missing with the burger (i ordered through Skip so i settled that with them). I added a side of fried pickles (delicious) so maybe that overrode the fries? My friends and I walked here after our visit to the Jardin Botanique de Montreal! It's not too far of a walk - about 7-10 minutes long. We found this place by looking up nearby eateries. This place is somewhat small, but wow the poutine here was plentiful and delicious. My husband and I never had poutine before so he asked the staff which version they would recommend. They recommended the Jacqueline! Our friends ordered a mediterranean style poutine. Our Jacqueline was delicious and satisfying. We ordered I think the large size to split - at first I was thinking of ordering my own, but im glad I did not. The portion sizes are enormous. The large size was more than enough for the two of us with big appetites. topping was a fried eggs with cheese curds, gravy, fries, bacon pieces, and I can't remember what else, but it was drool worthy. We were under substantial pressure from friends and family to try Poutine when we were in Montréal. Our Airbnb host recommended a few good spots, but Poutine Centrale was only a few minutes away from our apartment. We arrived around 9:30PM, and thankfully the place was pretty empty. We had no trouble ordering our food and drinks. We ordered a regular poutine and a smoked meat one with a Boreale Red beer. I was happy to be able to try a Canadian-brewed beer. It was sweet and malty and accurately red as the menu described it. Then we tried the poutine which was piping hot when it was brought to us. It was definitely good. The gravy and fries and cheese curds mixed well together. The smoked meat was a nice added touch. Although it wasn't too comfortable to eat steaming Poutine in a warm restaurant, I still enjoyed it very much. It didn't blow me away though as some other people said it would. It seems like it would be excellent drunk/hangover food for sure. I may return if I come back to Montréal. read more

However, the detour is worth it if you are actually looking for a quality poutine. Their menu is very varied with different types of poutine as you can see on pictures uploaded by other yelpers. I personally settled on the General Tao poutine, which was surprisingly well orchestrated. Stomach was growling after a morning of walking through Jardin Bontanique. Luckily Poutine Centrale was just a quick Bixi ride away. My sister and I shared the grosse size of La Sautée (onions, mushrooms, herbs and more) and it was the perfect portion. The cheese curds were squeaky and we liked that the gravy wasn't too salty or greasy. Pricing was also reasonable, although I was bummed they didn't take MasterCard (Visa or cash only).
