I rave about Poutous Auto Repair to EVERYONE! I recently moved to the area and needed an oil change. I'm a big proponent of local businesses for auto repair. I tried Mister Oil Change/Car Wash for a while, but honestly felt like they were always trying to stack on additional things needing fixed on top of an oil change. I did a Google search for oil change services in the area and Poutous stood out to me because of the high reviews. The experience was so easy! My car was done in about 30 minutes. I drive an old model Tahoe and had always opted for pretty much the cheapest oil, usually a cheap Mobil 1. When I spoke to the mechanic, he mentioned that they used a price friendly premium oil that would extend the mileage of this oil change more so than the oil I had been using. When checking out, the man at the front desk signed me up for their rewards and loyalty program, which gave me about $20 off the service, making the oil change much more price friendly than any place I've been to in Houston. Afterward, I spoke with a mechanic about my Service Engine light which is throwing an EVAP leak code. He was very upfront that there was no immediate issue other than not being able to pass an emissions test. He then proceeded to tell me the process of finding out where the leak is, giving me my options based on best case scenario and worst case scenario and informed me that if the leak would take longer than 20-30 minutes to fix, they would provide a shuttle to go home and I could pick up my car when ready. He also gave me a price estimate based on similar instances. And seriously, I've never had a mechanic be so upfront with me about pricing and process. The communications I receive from Poutous make me smile! They're so genuine and so kind. I actually received "Poutous bucks" and a hand written note in the mail, and for me, those things go so far! Poutus was recommended by another mechanic to fix a knocking on the driver's side. We were told it needed arm control replaced as well as other ball joints and alignment. $1004.00 Drove better first day. Wheel is tighter (but not what I brought it in for) Knocking started again & sounds the same as prior to bringing it in. I took it back in & let them drive it. They acknowledged it is clearly still knocking. They said they are not sure why but suggest it is probably the struts. Quote to fix that - another $1016.47 I would steer clear of these guys!! Dishonesty is something I really can't tolerate. If you don't know what's wrong with the car - then be honest - don't charge me to fix a problem I didn't bring it in for. Brought my car into this shop. I knew what was wrong but didnt have time to fix. They called quoting me over $1,300 for a part that would cost me about $40 to replace. What they did was basically quote to replace parts that didn't "need" to be replaced, only recommended. I finally got it out of them of the part that just needed to be replaced and asked them to replace just that. Still, long story short, the ordeal cost me $400. So what this shop does is quote you for things you dont need, and if you dont know better, you're paying for things you don't need. Ive talked with other places about this shop and it seems to be a common complaint. I do not recommend this business, any place who first quotes you things you dont need first, is deceptive. I would NOT RECOMMEND this place to my worst enemy. Brought my 13 Jetta tdi in for repairs on passenger side suspension due to to an accident I had. Only reason I brought it here was because of the proximity to my job, even though I did read bad reviews I decided to trust them. Mind you my vehicle had not been worked on for suspension or any other reason on any side of the vehicle. These were the only people to ever work on my passenger side suspension, all factory parts. All together parts and labor I paid around $1200 this was in Feb 2022. My family and I decided to take a trip to Big Bend National Park Nov 2022 about 9hrs away from where we live. We arrived safely but the next morning I noticed my front right tire was flat so I took it off and quickly noticed a missing flanged nut on my stabilizer bar link and a bolt missing from a mount that holds the brake lines. I'm aware that the missing bolt and nut would have not put us in any life threatening situations but the fact of the matter is that any missing parts is just unacceptable for a mechanic shop to not replace or tighten up. I called and spoke to not sure who but he denied that they worked on the bottom side of the link never touched or unscrewed it, but like I stated before no one has worked on it but them. I checked the driver side suspension my self and everything is there like it comes from the factory as it should. Please think before taking your vehicle here. I had another bad experience when the check engine light came back on 2 days later and they said that I needed another part that was only available from Honda at a cost of $722. Went in to have my AC fixed. They fixed it and the ac worked again, but when it came time to pick it up that's when the problems began. The employee who gave me my car back damaged the interior door handle. Before this visit I could easily pull to open my door, but now I can't. I have to roll down my window first and then open the car door from the outside. I called them back the same day after seeing the damage, but they were already closed. Call the next day and dropped it off, told that it would have been paid for since their employees caused the damage, but when the time came that was not the case. Was told there was more damage and instead of paying for all of it they only agreed to pay half as they thought that was fair since "we supposedly caused the damage " (their exact words btw). I just find this unacceptable as this damage was done under their supervision. I will never take my car back here. read more

Very very pleased with my first experience here at Poutous!! I have been fighting an AC problem for almost 4 years. I have been to 3 different dealerships and none of them have been able to diagnose the issue. In just a short amount of time after dropping my vehicle off here, I got a phone call with the problem unfortunately I also have a Ford extended warranty that requires Ford to do the work. So it's back to the dealership I go and can tell them what's wrong. Thank you for your time figuring out my problem. Definitely do not recommend. Went in for a diagnosis. When they "found" the issue, the made me order my own parts, since they said they couldn't for some reason. The part was not cheap by any means so I called again and asked if this was for sure the issue. They said yes so I bought it. After they installed the part, my car was no different so I called them and told them it was still acting up.. and they didn't believe me. They told me I must be doing something wrong. When I said no the car doesn't seem fixed at all, they told me that they blamed the part and that I needed to buy a whole new expensive part just so they could try again. That never happened though, because my car ended up breaking down on the side of the road because they were completely off on what the issue even was. The whole time the customer service was awful. The prices are not good for a mechanics, either. Please go somewhere else that's cheaper and can fix whatever issues you're having. Don't lose out on money like I made the mistake of doing. read more

Went in for an emissions test to renew my registration. They were so fast, very nice and efficient! In and out in 15 minutes!

Open early, people were friendly, car was ready the same day but that is where the positives end.. Would love a firm explanation as to why a $160 alternator, and $100 battery cost us over $900.. Yes, it's a Volkswagen but they're as common as a Toyota these days. My dad used to get work done here in the 90's here back at the older location, even went to HS with some of the family who own this, but still wound up a very expensive repair bill for a very common repair. They have contacted us and tried to make things right, though given the bill it's still unlikely we'd use them again, would recommend you call around and get estimates. Also failed to catch other serious issues with the car, that we had to repair literally a couple days later. No denying they're very nice people, clean shop, but you'd be well advised to shop around. But they do quality work, rest assured. read more

Have to agree with Todd. I work out of town a lot and sent my wife there to get a simple wiper blades replaced and tune up. They were supposed to call before they did any work. They did not call. My wife goes to pick it up and it was $1300. They claimed they found a air shock problem and needed to replace it because it was unsafe to drive this way. It must be noted that if you don't flip off the switch on my air shocks and jack it up on the lifts then you can damage them. They damaged them. I chose this shop because they were approved by AAA, but that means absolutely nothing. They are a dishonest shop. read more

Awful. I pulled up into the drive-through area and no one came out. I went inside the office and the cashier said she would call for a technician. When I drove back, no one approached my car, although I saw two people moving around inside the office. A man saw me from the garage but quickly went back. After about 5 minutes of waiting I see a man waving at me from inside his office, rudely trying to get my attention. He finally came out when I didn't get out of my car. I rolled down my window and asked politely if they could do an inspection. He looked at me and said, "Do you have insurance? Only if you have insurance." I mean, how rude! Poutous auto has been working on my truck for over a year. They are fast, dependable, honest I believe, and extremely helpful and polite. I wouldn't take my truck anywhere else. I do think they are somewhat expensive compared to my last mechanic who was also awesome but retired. Steven always takes me to work or pucks mr up when my car is ready and he's super nice. I first started using Poutous way back in the late 90s at their Kelvin location. They always provided reliable and honest service. When we moved to the Jersey Village area I was lamenting to my wife that we wouldn't be able to take out cars to Poutous anymore. "I wish there was one up here," I said one day when we were out about about running errands. I looked up and there was the sign for the Poutous 1960 shop, which I didn't even know existed. So I've been taking both our cars there since we moved up here in 2007. These guys may not be the cheapest in town, but they are solid and trustworthy in my experience. Sure they make recommendations for things that they believe should be addressed but I've never felt pressured to do anything for any other reason. In fact they've helped me prioritize repairs by safety, nice-to-haves, etc. When I needed a transmission rebuilt, their price was cheaper than the dealership and they provided a free loaner car and did it all with a lot less hassle, less standing in line, etc. In all these years I've never had them do a repair without calling me with an estimate and confirming I'd like to proceed. Long story-short -- I don't trust our cars to anyone else. My experience has been much more like Heather's than the other reviewers'. read more
