Reservations seem to be for a guaranteed seat but that does not include comfortability. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were sat with another party and shared a couch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] While the couple who was seated with us were lovely people, we were hoping to be somewhere on our own. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Where we were seated was also across the bar and all we could see was the people standing around from the waist down.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The crowd died down and the seating areas became available but most of the crowd was standing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Not sure if there's a dress code as there was a variety of different attire, from people in birks with shorts to dresses.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This casual get up also downgrades the experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall, it was just ok.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We were so excited to check out this secrete lounge. It did not disappoint. Just go through Manny's, the sandwich shop, and you'll immediately see two metal doors right by the refrigerator. Come prepared to separate from your cell phones for an hour or so. Not going to lie, I had to prep myself mentally for a year before coming here. It's manageable. You are encouraged to converse with your party instead of looking at your phones. The ambiance is warm, peach, cozy, not over the top. Feels like you are inside a jungle with tropical greeneries and exotic big cats and birds as the main decor. We got a corner booth with extremely comfortable seats (always a plus in my book!) Great for an intimate dinner date or girls night out. It was on a Saturday night featuring a live DJ who also played a guitar. Music was lowkey Miami night club-ish. Great turnout at 6:00 pm! The powder room stalls are unisex. Service was decent. Though, the servers wore low cut leopard print uniforms. We got our drinks and appetizers pretty quickly. For a party of four and one to two drinks each with three appetizers, the total bill including tips was $250. Not bad.

Ambiance: Speakeasy located through the waiter doors of a to-go spot called "Manny's" that features leopard print, upscale modern decor, and uniquely crafted cocktails. Yes, the cocktails are expensive. That said, they are super creative and worth it! I loved the "Oh So Jaded" matcha cocktail and their twist on an Old Fashioned was delicious. Friendly and knowledgeable bartenders. A bit hard to order when the bar is busy, but that's too be expected. Ideal spot for an intimate date night! We celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary and Powder Room was a perfect end spot for a night in Austin. No phones allowed! They literally lock up your phone and give you a key. We really liked that this created a more engaged atmosphere and no one was taking photos. Reservations for tables recommended! Somewhat busy on Saturday nights. Sneakers and shorts seemed to be allowed but definitely recommend dressing nice for the space.

Experience: This place was a vibe! I came here for my birthday with a group of friends (8) and we all had a good time. We were a bit hesitant about giving up our phones but we slowly started to feel the room and enjoy our time together Place: It was a lot smaller than I imagined. We sat in a small couch the entire night and although we were all in good conversation you couldn't help but feel stuck to your little corner. I wish there was more room to walk around and enjoy the whole room. Restrooms: was NOT a fan of the open restroom concept. A room for everyone to use the closed stalls, not private enough to touch up your makeup or talk with your girls.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The coolest speakeasy in Austin, with a strict no-phone policy (photo taken outside the entrance).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It feels like going back in time to the '70s-'80s![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The policy helps you connect more with the people you're with or even with strangers without distractions from your phone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The only downside is that the drinks are pricey.

Quite an interesting spot hidden behind a small storefront, Manny's. I stumbled upon this place by accident after seeing a crowd of people gathered around a place that clearly did not match the clientele. I could not tell who was working there and who was just hanging around so I tried to go in, at which point a woman stopped me from entering the building and asked what I was doing. I asked what this place was and she told me it was the powder room, which I had seen pictures of online, and realized it was more hidden than I thought. I asked if I could go in and she said they recommend reservations, but that I could go in tonight, though she seemed to be trying to dissuade me. I made my way in and there were a few small groups of people still hanging around but it was mostly empty. The aesthetic is very cool, and definitely a warm loungy vibe, but it oddly clashes with the DJ and really loud music. It's like it doesn't know whether it wants to be a club or a speakeasy. It seems like the kind of place to sit around and have conversation but it would be very hard to do so. I got a drink from the bartender. Asked for the cocktail menu, and was given a falling apart magazine. Props for creativity, but it seemed a bit impractical. I don't remember which of the drinks I tried, but they had some creative choices to choose from and I enjoyed the one I had. I went off to the side of the bar to take some photos and was harshly reprimanded from someone on the staff for doing so. He told me they had a no cell phone policy which I had no idea about, I had no problem with it, just didn't know it was a thing. I told him I wasn't aware and put my phone away, and he continued to scold me which was just somewhat ridiculous. After reading other reviews I see people have their phones taken away by the hostess, I was never asked by anyone to turn in my phone. I understand the idea, but in practice that seems a bit insane. Like what if there's an emergency and someone needs to get a hold of you. Informing people and requesting to put their phone away ought to be enough. I enjoyed the music and the space, the overall concept seems a bit off though, and I didn't really feel welcome being there. Would I recommend? Maybe. But come well dressed and with a reservation or prepared with a certain confidence to dare your way into here.

Entry door to Manny's. The door to Powder Room is the back right gray door with the black circle in the middle.

The bartenders are really friendly, the bathrooms are immaculate, and the inside of the place is really cute -- think kinda pink vintage? There are some tables, and big comfy couches around a coffee table in the middle of the bar which is where we sat. I had one of their happy hour cocktails that was similar to a creamy espresso martini, and they are 50% off on happy hour days/times! My friend got one of their floral cocktails which wasn't discounted but I LOVED it personally. I also got a strawberry matcha drink (non alcoholic) that was a little too sweet in my opinion; I finished it but wouldn't get it again. Overall though the cocktails and vibe in there are worth a visit alone! When it's not too hot, the area outside has little mini-chandeliers and is also very vibey.

I usually only go to coffee shops to work, but today, went on a coffee date with my dog instead. There's ground floor parking in the garage that's complimentary for two hours. I kept it simple with a vanilla latte. I noticed they had tacos at the bottom of the food menu, but at $13.25 for two tacos + an a la carte item, I decided to pass. Maybe my expectations were too high (as usual) because it's inside a hotel, but I was hoping for the kind of warm hospitality hotels are known for, but instead, the service felt a bit cold. It didn't exactly make me want to spend more money there. While sitting on the patio, I spotted the food truck outside and thought, "PERFECT. A food truck HAS to be cheaper. Take that Simona's!" I walked up to the window... only to find out it wasn't actually a separate food truck. It was just the pickup window. To order? I had to go back inside to Simona's and place my order with the delightful staff... I ended up ordering two Blue Migas tacos, and honestly, they were just... good, but nothing memorable. They tasted like your average breakfast tacos that you can find all over Austin for less. Despite loving how relaxing the outdoor patio is with its lucious greenery surrounding you and the beautiful French chairs and cafe tables, it's located right next to the hotel pool. If you're visiting on a summer afternoon, expect some extra noise with pool guests. If you're looking for a quiet coffee or a place to work, I'd recommend coming early in the morning instead.

The bartender claimed I was drunk and cut me off anyway. I was at the bar talking to a girl while waiting to get a drink (the wait was long because the service is very slow, despite the bar not being very busy at all). She was clearly into me, and the bartender kept jumping in trying to talk to her too (instead of doing his job making drinks). He was doing all sorts of things to try and flirt with her and make her laugh: pulling out and showing her buckets of pre mixed cocktails, running and sliding under the bar, etc. She was engaging with both of us , and right in the middle of that, I get cut off out of nowhere. No explanation other than claiming I looked drunk, which I very clearly wasn't. It felt very clear what was going on--he wanted me out of the way. I left and asked the bouncer on my way out if I seemed drunk. This was literally two minutes later. He said no, not at all, and asked me why I would even ask that. I then told him exactly what happened and asked him to let the owner or whoever was in charge know about this extremely unprofessional conduct so they can discipline the bartender. His response was that the bartender has discretion to cut anyone off, and let me know the bartender is supposedly married so he couldn't have been flirting with any of the customers. Well, sounds like his logic is flawed--not only COULD he flirt with his customers, he WAS, and was therefore cheating. I hope his wife finds out. This is perfectly representative of Austin customer service lately and not normal in other places. I was in Tampa for an entire month earlier this year and this would've been unthinkable there. I'm not coming back.
