I have had an amazing experience at Power Pilates. I have been to three of their locations in the city. This midtown location is the largest one and is their flagship location. It has nice amenities with bathrooms with showers. I appreciate that they have a variety of classes from mat, reformer, and tower. I feel like right now Reformer is very trendy and it's hard to find studios that have anything else. I appreciate that power powers is real classical Pilates. They even use a real classical Pilates reformer. The classes are as challenging as you want them to be-as any real Pilates classes. I've had pretty good luck with all of the instructors being high-quality. I do appreciate that generally their classes are on the smaller side, and even with our classes that are larger the teachers tend to be great at giving attention to all the students. This place is so disorganized and unprofessional. I had a private session on a Saturday morning booked and confirmed. The instructor and I both showed up on time, but the studio was locked. The poor instructor was calling everyone to see if she could get it opened, but there was no support for her. I had already arranged and paid for a babysitter so I could attend my Pilates session, but it was a total waste. The instructor was never able to get the studio opened. I asked for a refund, and all I got was the runaround. Apparently, no one is authorized to issue a refund? I sent emails, left voicemails, and even spoke with "managers," but nothing was ever resolved, and there was barely an apology. The lack of accountability and customer service was so much worse than the original mistake. Spend your money here at your own risk! Look at all of the one star reviews for this place. They tell the same story as me. I wish I would have read the yelp reviews before wasting my time with Power Pilates. read more

First time trying traditional Pilates was at this studio. I felt really comfortable in class and I appreciate the small group setting. Do not take their teacher training. They're scam artists who will have you sign up for in-person trainings and cancel them multiple times for their mat level one and two to force you to go online. Hosting Power Pilates Was the Biggest Mistake I've Made as a Studio Owner. Power Pilates approached me to be a host studio in Los Angeles. I agreed--and it turned out to be the worst business decision I've made in over three years of owning Breakthrough Pilates. The program was unstructured, lacked progressive benchmarks, and prioritized rushing students through rather than ensuring they actually learned the Classical Pilates system. I terminated my relationship with Power Pilates after the first phase of the Comprehensive training because I completely lost confidence in their model and educational integrity. Worse, the situation escalated: Power Pilates allowed students to observe sessions at other studios without disclosing their affiliation. One student would take a lesson while the other observed--without notifying the host studio, which in this case was the Romana's Pilates studio where I trained. This put me in an incredibly uncomfortable position with my mentors and damaged my professional reputation. Meanwhile, I had invested heavily in supporting these students. They had 24/7 key access to my studio, deeply discounted classes, and countless hours of my time--for free. Despite this, they barely showed up. Not one of them completed even 300 of the required 600 hours before finishing their Comprehensive classes. When I asked for my studio keys back (after the coursework ended), I received aggressive pushback. So I revoked the additional perks and still gave them two more months of free business-hours access. THEY NEVER RETURNED. In total, they had free or heavily subsidized access to my studio for nearly six months. Now they're threatening legal action--while Power Pilates has failed to provide a copy of the complaint and has been withholding payment for over three months. To date, I've received $453 for 1 student (the one I still mentor for free)--for hosting four full weekends of workshops, offering free studio use, and months of discounted classes. Repeated requests for a breakdown of payment have been ignored. Ali from Power Pilates rarely returns calls and has never provided an accounting. The entire experience has felt predatory--from the way studio owners are treated to the poorly structured training model. It's not a program designed to build great teachers. It's a pipeline to fast-track unprepared instructors and cash in on host studios' resources, time, and integrity. read more

The woman at the front desk was sweet and helpful, as it was my first time at the studio. The space is inviting and colorful. There are shower stalls and toiletries available as well as merchandise for purchase. I didn't see an actual locker room, but they have everything you need to shower. They also have free locks you can use for the lockers to store your stuff. The instructor, Kevin, provided modifications and form correction as needed, and had a funny sense of humor and a sassy personality with who I assume are his regulars. He streams his classes online, at least this one, but it didn't distract from the in person teaching at all. The open mat class was really good and challenging in a rewarding way. I was scammed by Power Pilates. There are so many reputable Pilates companies to be certified with--run from Power Pilates. The materials seem dated in the programming I've completed. After the purchase, I was never able to reach the downtown studio by phone and their other studios occasionally answered my email but never gave me a private lesson appointment. I love Power Pilates. I currently live out of the country in a small town of about 20k people with absolutely no Pilates options, so I decided I would seek out online training and become the Pilates teacher in my town. Course Completion Flexibility: I very much appreciate the self-paced courses. I have a busy career and need the flexibility for completion. Last year at the Pilates in Paradise retreat in Costa Rica, I met the kindest people and learned so much. I reinvigorated my love for surfing which brought me to a halt when I was injured last January while surfing. The flexibility of training completion allowed me to take time to heal before I jumped back in to complete my education. Communication: I don't know where the comments are coming from that it is hard to contact anyone. Any time I have EVER needed anything, I email or chat on their website and I get an immediate response. Caring: These people really care. I love the online classes I have taken, with Allison and Dani in particular. I will say though, that every class I have taken (aside from the retreat) has been virtual, but all instructors have been really attentive to virtual students. In person? Daniel is an amazing instructor and I really hope he's teaching at the retreat in PV this year. He is the best Pilates instructor I have ever had. I have attended both - semi private - group classes with Kevin many years. I am always amazed at his ability to manage the many clients at the same time to ensure that each of us get the most out of our session. I don't write many post yet had to call out Kevin from a tower class a few weeks ago. There was a older client who clearly had no experience with the tower who was next to me. She was completely lost @ Kevin had to give her many corrections & help throughout the class. He never lost focuswith the flow of the class while trying to help her throughout the hour. I on the other hand wanted to tell her she was a distraction to everyone else & if she couldn't follow simple instruction she should leave. Bravo to Kevin for remaining his fabulous self. read more

I've taken the Sunday 10am mat classes with Katrina and she's great. Explains each move clearly so you could follow with your eyes closed, gives special attention to each person, and creates a welcoming environment. The mat classes are small, so make sure to sign up before. They also have tower, reformer, wunda tower, magic circle, advanced mat, and beginner mat Pilates classes available, so this is the place for all things Pilates if that's what you're into. The prices are a bit much for a single class compared to what I've taken in the past, but you'd be hard-pressed to find cheaper in Manhattan. Audrey at the front desk is very helpful. It's also an extremely clean place, much appreciated. The special touches are the free tea and chocolates they offer in the lobby. read more

Wow. What ripoff artists. Somewhat comforting to know I'm not their only victim. I walked into the Flatiron location to see about booking some sessions and signed up for the 3-session trial for $155. In trying to book sessions, it was clear I could not get the same person twice a week on my schedule so opted to cancel the membership. The Russian gal at the front said it would be credited to my account in 3 days. Mind you, this all happened in 15 minutes. Later that day I get an email from the owner saying I couldn't get my money back because they have a no refund policy. BUT NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT THIS POLICY WHEN I SIGNED UP. I even disputed the charges with the bank and they declined to refund my money. These are ruthless money-hungry people, and I wouldn't be surprised is this place closes down from all the bad karma they've accumulated. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! read more

In 2019, I paid more that $3100 for apparatus 1 and apparatus 2 trainings- specifically for in-person trainings in summer and fall 2020 in Scottsdale, Arizona. PP cancelled the trainings. PP then cancelled the rain dates. To date, no Arizona training dates have been rescheduled. I've reached out many times over the last year for updates. Their customer service is horrible. I've just been stonewalled. I've not been able to 'speak' to anyone; just email. I've been told there's a managing director but have not received any communication or direct info for said person despite numerous requests. To date, the only options I've been provided are: waiting for them to schedule something in Arizona, doing online training, or traveling to a state where they have a training. Waiting isn't an option, and also seems highly unlikely as it seems the AZ studio I did both my mat trainings at no longer works with PP... I had even provided PP with the name AND number of an AZ studio that might allow them to use their location for training. Crickets... I lost my business in 2020. I'm now beginning new full time employment. Thus, waiting for PP to maybe one day maybe schedule something and then taking time off IF they ever get around to scheduling something is so unreasonable for them to 'offer.' (Thank God my future employment isn't as an apparatus instructor pending training - God forbid that I've been waiting this long and even longer for my main source of income!) Online is a joke- and they should know that. Beyond the fact that they know I don't have equipment for apparatus, this is a hands on, in person athletic activity. They are making a mockery of the entire Pilates philosophy. Joe must be rolling in his grave that a studio would purport to provide classic training through the internet - not in person! And, in my case, contractually I did not pay over $3k for a zoom link! Traveling is also not a fair 'offer.' I paid for Arizona training- I didn't contemplate at the time of payment paying additional airfare, hotel and travel fees nor should I have to. Interestingly though I traveled to another state for other reasons during which time there was a training in said state but despite multiple emails and requests no one at PP would confirm me in time to make arrangements to participate. In fact despite many attempts, I got no response at all regarding registration, which would have to be done via PP personnel themselves since I would have to pay AGAIN to sign up online, and need I say more about that! They also won't refund me despite the fact that their own student contract refund policy provides for a refund when they cancel training dates and rain dates. None of the exceptions listed apply that might preclude a refund. The very one sided contract THEY drafted - they won't even abide by that! There is simply no justifiable reason that to date there's been no Arizona trainings, there's not even any upcoming trainings on their schedule, which goes into 2022! While I can comprehend that COVID in early to mid 2020 might result in a short postponement, when people were figuring things out ... but to fail to provide training in Arizona to date, April 2021, let alone any upcoming training dates in the schedule and to fail to show any proof that there's been any effort on their part to make a training in Arizona happen- is just egregious conduct on their part. Clearly they couldn't care less about training as they've already gotten paid! NYC might be more restricted I suppose but Arizona has been open for business! And I've been ready willing and able to participate should they have said the word! Essentially they are milking the COVID excuse to their advantage and to others detriment. They simply have no justification to keep my money if they cannot provide me the services for which I paid. Bottom line these people will take your money gladly but couldn't care less about students or training. The fact that they would even offer online apparatus training as a substitute for in person apparatus training is proof positive they don't care what kind of teachers they put out into the classical Pilates universe. read more

I should have written a review quite some ago. I've taken private sessions with Mary since the beginning of my journey with Pilates. I'm so fortunate that she was the person that introduced me to all I learned about Pilates. She is patient, kind and warm. She is committed to teaching her clients. She challenged me at times, and I've seen a significant change in my body as a result of my private sessions. She is also very knowledgeable about the human body, and what to do if you have an injury. I learned so much from her. It is clear that she has a passion for what she does. These are small classes of just 4-5 people, with just the right amount of hands-on correction. I am writing this with a very sad heart due to the lack of compassion. I signed up for two Power Pilates classes on January 29th, 2020. The training is to be held on Orcas Island, WA in May. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 the training as been cancelled, but now offered online in it's place. I understand this, however; I have been laid off work and my husband's small business is in jeopardy. I kindly asked for my many back, because I could really use $950 right now. They have refused. I find this to be very unfortunate in a time like this. I am not even in the right mindset to take an online class. I really just want my money to help my financial situation at this time. I have never written a yelp (or any) review before, but I have never been treated so poorly. I am a long time client (4+ years) and asked to put a hold on my classes during my pregnancy - I offered multiple doctors' notes. The studio refused to do this, citing a decision from "management". After a few weeks of fighting this decision via email and phone calls with the very nice receptionists, I learned that "management" is a man named Ari (maybe Ali?). However, his assistant (I think Alison?) will not let me reach him and her behavior is appalling. She laughed at me, mocked me, and acted like a cliquey teenager. The gist of it can be summed up by the fact I was told that Ari's only availability to speak to me is "three Fridays from now at 7 PM" and that since he doesn't have an office number, a cell phone, or an email address which I can use to reach him, I should wait for his call on Skype. I recommend anyone reading this review to take your money elsewhere. read more

I've been attending a series Mat classes at Power Pilates this past week since I have mid-winter break as a teacher. It has been such a pleasure to spend my staycation getting in shape with all the different instructors. I got a 10 class package and am almost half way there. Each instructor has been better than the last in different ways. Pedro was super friendly and patient (my first class!), so was Atsko the second instructor. By my third class with Jordana, I was somewhat able to keep up with her demanding and brisk style, which is exactly what I need in an instructor! My fourth class was with Meaghan who was also demanding but silly in between. Tomorrow I will be with Atsko again and I'm super excited! I really like the environment and everyone who works there. They provide locks for your to store your personal belongings and you can even shower there if you want. The studio is clear, sunny, and open. It's been a fun way to work out and get back into a healthy routine. I like the neighborhood also because I went to Hunter College, so I get a bit nostalgic :-P read more

Last night I took the mat class with Debi! I signed up via classpass and it wasn't until it was too late to cancel that I realized I had signed up for an intermediate/advanced class. I was a little nervous because I am no where near advanced, but decided to go and happy I did. I learned a lot of new moves and was able to keep up for the most part. Everything we did was on the mats. Debi did a really great job of explaining the move which helped me follow along very well. The studio itself is very nice and large. It is two-levels, downstairs is where the reformer machines are and upstairs is the mat classes with the towers. There was about 10 or so mats so it wasn't a huge class which is nice because it allowed for interaction with Debi. There are lockers available with locks too upon request. There is also a single person bathroom with a shower in it. Defiontiely recommend this class and studio! read more

I tried the Mat Class at Power Pilates through ClassPass. I really wanted to like this place (the instructor was super friendly and attentive), but the workout and facilities left much to be desired. Maybe I was expecting a strenuous workout, but I found the workout at Power Pilates to be really light and basic. I barely broke a sweat and was never challenged during the class. This is a problem because I don't consider myself to be particularly strong. Also, the building the studio is in is really old. There were problems with the elevator where it would not go up despite me pressing the button multiple times. After 3-4 times, the doors finally closed and the elevator worked. Also, they moved our class to a random studio on the lower floor that did not belong to Power Pilates which was unfortunate. Note that I haven't tried the other classes so this review is solely for the Mat Class. read more

For a while, I was coming here 1-2 times per week. I enjoyed the quality of instruction and find that power pilates produces good instructors. The studio is very clean and quiet; actually it's quite lovely. I'd say the 3 stars has more to do with their pricing and inadequate website. They don't list their pricing and they could use a more interactive scheduling system. Also, their prices are a bit high especially if you don't purchase a package. read more

Love this place. I've been taking the mat classes with Megan and Erin and they've been wonderful- both instructors do a great job of keeping the class moving, but they're still attentive to everyone's needs. The classes can be fairly busy (15-20 people) or really small (3-5) depending on the day. The busy classes are fun because they move quickly, but I also enjoy the smaller classes because you get extra instruction and get to push yourself a little more. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is the price. It's about the same as other pilates studios, but it's still a lot. So far though, I've used a Groupon deal and I just started the $120 Jumpstart deal, and I feel as though those are both worth it. Plus, when you spend the extra money, you make sure you go! So if you have the money and you want a great pilates class, I highly recommend Power Pilates. read more

EXCELLENT Power Pilates studio (that follows the classical technique of Joseph Pilates). The front desk receptionists are bright and helpful, the studio is always cleaned and teachers are all HIGHLY QUALIFIED. I have tried Mat, Tower and Reformer classes with Kevin Mondrick and he is just the BEST (as an instructor and human being). Guaranteed you will have a highly effective workout and FUN, his sense of humor during the workout (including the time you are sweating for the last ab series) will make the class unique and enjoyable. Make sure you sign up in advance for Kevin's classes because they book up quickly. I also had very effective and enjoyable workouts with Jordana Herman and Debi Field who are among my favorites. Stephanie West and Emily Swan are also very good, I just didn't have a lot of sessions with them but enjoyed every time I did. read more
