I hate writting these but its the truth of my experience. Let's just say the cliché "meh" does not encapsulate it. This place basically has the layout of a Baker's Square with horrible service. I mean, I had to seat myself and then had to get up to grab my own menu. All I could see is that these waitress cared about was their closing procedures. BTW I came in at 9:15pm and they close at 11pm. My gosh really? Needless to say they didn't care for their tables this far away from closing. Second try? Umm... I would but the icing on the cake was at checkout. I paid and gave a standard tip because I was a waiter too but when I asked for a itemized receipt for work expenditures, I waited and waited and waited. Then I noticed the manager's viewing window where I could see the manager chatting away with another waitress. Then it occurred to me about 15 min earlier I saw long length of receipt paper, about 5 feet long coming out of the register. What does this mean? It means even the manager was closing early and did care to address the needs of his customers. I did get a receipt only until I had to yell into the back for someone to come out... Sure this place could be good but sure as heck not within 2 hours before closing. That is all... read more

Nothing WRONG with the food, it's the hearty, predictable diner fare. I had a solid (but unremarkable) french-dip with fries. Nothing out of the ordinary, decent fries. What's worthy of stars? Their four dollar chocolate cake, I got a slice that was about the size and weight of my head. GREAT value there, I finished maybe an eighth of it, and my family helped with more. I was pretty taken aback that the waitress didn't know her pies available off the top of her head. I thought that was weird when the place features it's bakery as you walk in the front door. Additionally, we had to ask no fewer than 3 times for a full report of what desserts were available. You'd think she'd know that, or at least have it on a little pad of paper to report in a timely manner. Not the best service I've ever had, and not even the best in a small diner. Breakfast today. I ordered country fried steak. Scrambled eggs. Sourdough toast. Toast burnt in spots and really hard. Eggs overcooked, had brown spots. Steak was very good and hashbrowns very good. But 50% good is not good enough. read more

The menu was very large and had a great selection. The sweet potato pancakes are incredible. The omelettes are fresh and delicious! Our server was fantastic though. Very helpful and with a smile. My husband loved their "Reuben Sandwich or Chef Salad". Country fried steak, bacon burger, and breakfast food. All yummy and filling. I really like that they allow diners to order off the small plate menu. I was also pleased that they tried to help me order in a way that my son with food sensitivities would be able to eat. He often tries foods that end up making him ill, and this did not happen here. It was a pretty diverse menu. The kids' meals included a ginormous cookie. And the cookie was good. I wish the small plate menu had more options. The food was on the pricier side, and for a large family won't be something we can do often. I liked the restaurant. Fast service, great prices, yummy. We drove through Yakima on a day trip. We stopped at the Powerhouse grill. We were surprised by the low prices on their salads and sandwiches. We were even more surprised by how quickly our order came out. My husband had a club sandwich and fries. My daughter and I each had Shrimp Louie's. Everything came out within minutes of ordering. I asked for sweet potato fries when the food arrived. They came out hot and fresh minutes later. Quick and efficient. Everything tasted fabulous. Restaurant was clean well maintained. From the outside this building looked like lots of other not particularly remarkable restaurant/bars and the name Powerhouse Grill could kind of go a lot of directions. But Hubby and I were tired from a long day of driving and seeing the sights for several hours in Mt. Rainier National Park and decided to take a chance. Which turned out to be lucky for us. Our server made us feel welcomed right away and the menu had many tempting-sounding items but we decided to go with the tried and true and ordered grilled steaks and baked potatoes with sour cream and chives. It was served with grilled yellow squash with onion and a fresh, warm loaf of wheat bread and real butter. The steaks were flavorful and tender and everything tasted very good. We had excellent service and a good meal, ordered from the Senior menu, for a good price. So, Yes, I'm a fan of the Powerhouse Grill! read more

Today was my first time visiting, I was super excited because the menu looked promising. When I asked if the jalapeño burger had fresh or pickled jalapeños I was answered with a whole lot of attitude from the waitress. She had a pretty spicy attitude with our whole table and were not a problematic bunch. The burger I ended up ordering was so dry, didn't come with any condiments until requested them, my daughter picked hers all the way apart just to get to the edible pieces, the fries were so over cooked. I was not impressed at all. No one in our party enjoyed anything we ordered. read more

Probably one of the better diners in the outskirts of Yakima, in stripmallville. Similar style diner to Denny's, where you are served way too much food for one person, but it was decent enough. The carrot cake was massive.... do not order for one person unless you are already obese. Seemed to be a big hit with the blue-rinse brigade. read more

Powerhouse Grill is described here as a "diner". I consider it a notch or two above the diner category. The menu is extensive for all three meals and there is crossover. Every item I've eaten here is very good, from an entree salad, sandwich, and dinner entrees. My favorites include their specialties, the Powerhouse melt with homemade potato chips, and Powerhouse halibut. The quality of service depends upon your server. Having said that, the managers care very much about having happy customers and will make sure of that. The desserts here are well known, deservidly so, exceptional. They have recently remodeled, having new furniture, so it looks a little more upscale. read more

Great for kids! Clean high chair with disposable bib, moist towelette, and saltines to feed the kiddo before the food arrives. Came for lunch while visiting grandma. Menu full of choices; reasonable prices; good service. Food was fine--not memorable but still tasty enough. read more

I just had the pleasure of dining at Powerhouse for the second time. It isn't easy to find a family owned and operated restaurant that does a great job. And I think that is important. The menu had a,wide selection of entrees. I choose the salmon with tarragon sauce. Excellent! also I noticed they included local produce and wine.I had another excellent experience, good service and good food. I'll stop in again when I travel through Yakima. As drama kids, we have a reputation of being loud and rambunctious and of course we are no exception. Even in the chaos, the staff was so polite and wonderful. Our party showed up, reserved for after regular hours, and the staff remained patient and willing to serve us. The restaurant was clean and it was an awesome environment for after the show. Our server, Miranda, was on top of everything and made the experience 10x more enjoyable that it would've been anywhere else at this hour, thanks for everything! read more

Went there before Mother's Day for a family outing. Mildly busy and the service was sub par for a restaurant of this size and caliber. It's been about 7 years since I was last in there. Don't think I'll be back. Prime Rib was great, but wasn't happy at all with service. Waitress forgot to put in part of my order, glasses weren't refilled in a timely manner, empty plates and cups weren't removed from table to make room. I expect just a little more when spending over $100.00 on dinner. read more

Surprised to see this place with only a 3.5 stars as it deserves at least 4 and above. It's typical diner food but done well, with more than reasonable portions and prices. The main problem people seem to have with is the service here and that's because it's usually very, very busy. Also the mean age is about 65+ so be ready to get stared at by very quiet old couples. I haven't ever had an unpleasant experience here though and anybody who is complaining is either entitled, snobby, or just plain hangry. Is it the best diner you'll ever go to? No, but it's a step and above every other place in town. PROTIP: HOMEMADE CORNED BEEF HASH! Consider getting the Reuben with sauerkraut. read more

Breakfast at 9 30am on a Wednesday morning. The place was packed. We were seated right away and immediately given water. My boyfriend had the powerhouse skillet - he liked it except for the potatoes, said it was overcrispy... hard to eat. I tried a piece and indeed it was. I had the strawberry creme blintze (only get one! These things are huge and majorly sweet, I could only eat half of one.) It was delicious!! Nothing to critcize on. However, the side hash browns I ordered weren t very good - even if I asked for it to be cooked more (crispier). It still wasn't very good. I also had side of english muffins and it was OK. Lastly, our server was great! Very nice, quick & efficient. The server alone earned a whole star for the place. read more
