We enrolled our 11 month old English Lab in Powerhouse K9's 3 week Bootcamp! Anthony showed us that our crazy puppy was capable of learning! He came out of the three week training Heeling as we walked on leash and he sat as soon as we stopped walking and resumed as soon as we took a step forward. Anthony also trained him the Down and Stay commands. We have not had the opportunity to continue that portion of the training, but plan to. The best decision I made for my puppy and I was going with PowerhouseK9 for obedience training. Working one on one with Anthony helped me to get a handle of my puppy before he grew into something that I did not want him to be. My fiancé and I took our 6 months old GSD "Sabrina" to Anthony at PowerHouse K9. Her behavior prior to her arrival was AWFUL! She would pull on her leash so hard it would almost take us down. If you are in need of a trained dog, please read this entire review. I'm going to give you background on our journey with our dog and what led us to powerhouse. We got our dog Loki one year ago this month. He is a German Shepherd mix we adopted. Im embarrassed to say we were completely ignorant to how active German Shepherds can be, and Loki was definitely hyper. He started off like all puppies, wanting to play and nipping. We tried our best to get an early start on training him at home, watched every YouTube video and read all the advice. He responded to some things, like sitting, laying down, and shaking but only when he was calm and only when we used our hands. By the time he was 6 months old we knew we needed help. He was growing into a pretty large dog and although he had the sweetest nature, his nipping never stopped, we couldn't go to the park without him pulling us all around, and jumping to play with other dogs, and at home he would jump up on us all the time. With a 7 year old son, it made it really difficult because we could never really have Loki off leash around him. I was also 6 months pregnant, and knew we couldn't keep things the way they were. In trying to save money, we hired a local trainer which was fine but made no real lasting change. Finally we hit a wall at 9 months, we couldn't give him what he needed for training which at this point meant we were living completely apart from him, which none of us wanted. Enter - Powerhouse. Loki knows he can get away with a little more stuff with us, so he is not as perfectly trained as when we picked him up but he is still amazing. He hangs out with us as a family, goes public places with us and behaves, is able to sit and stay when company comes over, doesn't jump up, and doesn't nip. Our 6-month-old Cane Corso Maximus is an amazing pup...great temperament! My Husband and I spent over a year researching the breed and studying dog behavior prior to getting him, and even purchased an online course to assist us in our training. But it just wasn't enough...after going through a major growth spurt he was pulling so much that my shoulders starting hurting after our walks because his heel wasn't consistent...and not because he was being aggressive or anything, we have a cat and he doesn't chase them, he also isn't dog-aggressive or reactive either...he was just jumping around being a puppy. But because he's a large breed we needed to get things reeled in, real fast! He was also going through the "I don't have to listen" phase that usually happens with Corso's around 6 months. 3 Weeks Boot camp (wrote it on Feb 3rd) NOT WORTH IT! We have a 4 months Goldendoodle that we sent for 3 weeks boot camp. He has aggression behaviors that would come out of nowhere. For example, moments in which we are just chilling, hebwould start snarling or growling at us out of nowhere. But majorities of the time he mainly does it when we try to remove any objects out of his mouth (i.e rock, tiny woods, napkins) as he would chew and eat on them if we don't remove it. We also had a hard time leash walking him in general, he would just lay down when he sees people or either gets too excited. We sent him to this particular boot camp in hope for him to be better with leash walking and for both him and us to learn proper techniques on how to properly control his aggression. When we dropped him off to Anthony; Anthony didn't really listen to our concern. I had a list of questions and concerns written out so he can hopefully pay closer attention to our concerns. But none of our concerns were conversed or listened to during the drop off. We just signed a paper, paid half of the training cost, and dropped our puppy off on Jan 11. Weeks went by with no update despite texting Anthony. Finally informed Anthony that we were going to come and pick up our puppy on the weekend (a few days earlier than the planned 3 weeks) and told Anthony that we were disappointed with no update or video updates on his progress. Then finally, we got three videos in total as Anthony stated that he had forgotten to send to us update videos. When we picked our puppy up, he did kind of improve with walking and had learned maybe four tricks max (sit, down, heel, and place?). We asked about his aggression behavior, Anthony said he didn't experience it. I was quite surprised when I heard that because every time we take our puppy for walk, he would always try to eat/chew rocks, woods, mask that he finds in the street. Not sure how he had missed it. So we asked him how do we handle in that situation, he said pull on his leash and say no. We have tried that. We had tried treat offerings so our puppy would drop the objects he has in his mouth and also tried the tricks that Anthony had mentioned. No luck. Our puppy still has aggression/guarding behaviors and just now he almost bit my niece when she wasn't doing anything to him. It's very concerning because he's a very friendly puppy that exhibits this aggression out of nowhere. I may have to look for another trainer to help control his aggressive/guarding behaviors. To be honest, I don't know how much time Anthony had spent training our puppy each day, but I don't think boot camp is worth it or at least it wasn't worth it to our puppy. Anthony said we have to maintain the training but there wasn't much to maintain as our puppy issue wasn't even addressed or trained out of much to begin with. Update March 4 Our puppy is almost 6 months now. Almost a month went by since boot camp and our puppy still hasn't changed much with his behavior. Instead, it's getting worse that we are currently looking for a proper training center for him. His aggressive behavior is definitely getting worse. He snaps pretty much randomly. He snaps while other people are walking pass him, he snaps when we try to pet him at times, he snaps when we go near his treats that he hasn't eaten, he also snaps when we try to take his toys to play. He definitely gives warning by growling at first but snaps instantly. If this aggressive behaviors continues, it will become a costly reliability to us in the future. I have been wanting to post this review for the longest time. However, I didn't feel comfortable leaving a bad review among all the positive reviews. I definitely wouldn't recommend 3 weeks boot camp based on my experience. It's costly and our puppy literally knew about a few tricks from this training and that was it. He is still bad at walking with leash on, he has very poor recall, and the aggression behavior is getting out of control. This review is long overdue. Anthony worked with my Beagle, Malakai, in October 2019. Malakai is a very spirited and headstrong dog. Anthony trained my dog on the basic commands. When Malakai came home, he was more attentive and listened. Was he a completely different dog? No, he wasn't. However, the foundational basics were present because of Anthony's training, which I can and am still building on. Malakai still has a ways to go; but, Anthony has made my life as a dog owner a lot easier. The investment in dog training was worth it. Anthony knows how to train dogs, and my dog's improved behavior is a testament to his skill. I deducted one star for a couple of reasons: 1) communication wasn't consistent, and I only received one training video and 2) the training was cut short due to Anthony going out of town. My family and I were going out of the country and left our 3 month old GSD, Ponzu, with Anthony for the 3 week boot camp. Before the boot camp Ponzu was a very energetic and eager puppy; when her vaccinations were completed we started taking her on walks and she'd pull so hard on the leash she would almost start choking herself. I was afraid she'd hurt herself if she wasn't trained and saw the board and train as a great opportunity for her to learn how to properly walk on leash. She also had trouble with obedience when I didn't have treats in hand; she wouldn't listen or pay attention to us unless we had a treat. As I tried to train her on basic commands she would only do as told if I had a treat and if I didn't have treats she would become extremely mouthy. This is my first time being a dog owner, so I didn't know how to properly train her/handle her treats. Since she's come back from the boot camp, she still acts like a puppy, but she is a lot more calm, confident, and obedient. She actually listens when we tell her no and she's not as mouthy anymore. She walks on the leash way better now and only pulls when she's overstimulated, which Anthony advised us on what to do in those situations. She listens to commands and doesn't need redirection as often. She's not perfect, but Anthony really laid the foundation so we can work towards her being a confident and obedient dog. In addition to the great training, Anthony has been extremely accommodating and helpful; we had to leave Ponzu there for an additional week due to scheduling issues and he was more than happy to keep her and work with us.
