I should have left a review years ago when my kids came here however I never realized it until throughout the years how much anxiety my son has now going to the dentist after coming here. I can still remember his scream when they "numbed" him then took out one of his teeth. They were suppose to do an extraction but I didn't realize it until afterwards she didn't numb him enough and pulled the tooth out. He screamed this scorching scream I won't ever forget now at 10 years old he can barely get cleanings done without anxiety:( it's really hard to calm him at his appointments because of this one experience and he still remembers it. read more

Worsted customer service ever from staff members and doctors. Your not allowed to bring in strollers. your not allowed to throw diapers in the trash cans. Doctor told me to control my child when my child was just closing the door after me. Your not allow to put your 3 months old child shoes on the counter when the nurse is weighing them. I gave this doctor and his practice chances to redeem themselves, today was the last draw. I had been taking my kids to him since my 1st child was 2 months and my 2nd child since she was born. 3 years. the 1st year he was a great doctor only bad part was he treated his employees like dirt. Ever since he got big in the business and opened the urgent care he started treated his patients parents and employees with coldness and rudeness. Four years after my original review: We have grown to despise the medical side of this practice. They will cancel your appointment if you are more than 10 minutes late but if you are on time you will be waiting REGULARLY for 1-2hrs past your appointment time. While the office is clean, it is not what I would consider "kid-friendly". You must bring something to entertain your children because there is nothing to do while you wait. The office staff has had some turnover, which I first thought would help things run more efficiently. Still they have the same problems they've always had. Over-booking is a HUGE problem! I went for my daughter's well check in November 2018 and there were 4 other families with multiple children to be seen at the same time as my daughter. That's more than 10 children with the same appointment to see ONE doctor and ONE nurse practitioner. We waited 1 hr for the NP to come in and say my daughter looks great and passed her vision and hearing. Problem is, the nurse marked down that she did her hearing and vision without even seeing her. So we had to wait even longer to finish our appointment. All in all we were there for close to 90minutes. This clinic has potential to be great, lack of organization and over-booking are its downfall. If they would've listened to clients when we first had issues they could've fixed all the issues. Dr and Dr Mrs, I am sorry that the last 4 yrs has come to this review. I am no longer willing to put up with the issues. My daughter has been w this office since she was born. I enjoyed the girls that worked there at the time. And eventually when she got older, I enjoyed the dentist part as well. However, the wait to be seen is ridiculous. We waited in the waiting room for a bit, but every time we entered the exam room, we'd wait 15-30 mins sometimes. And then the doctor had the nerve to give me crap for my daughter being cranky since it had become her nap time. I schedule the appointment before it, not thinking a routine check up would take well over an hour. I stopped going for the check ups and found a new pediatrician, but i was determined to keep going for the dentistry. My daughter is 3, so it's every 6 months. I forgot about the appointment, being that we schedule it in September. When we verified our insurance a few days ago, we asked when the appointment was and they told us they'd call us back with the date. Yet, I get a phone from a rude lady about how it was today and the moment she was calling. My fault, I should have remembered. But I when I said I would cancel and then reschedule, she said "you want to cancel? Okay" and click. I planned to reschedule. When I messaged the office, she called me back only to bicker with me. Way to go with the professionalism. I won't be back ever again. The dentist was great, but not with the crappy ass attitude I got. I'll take my child elsewhere. read more

Find yourself a pediatrician that knows how to run a business! I know after 7 years of trying to give them a chance - they are in way over their heads. Doctors are not trained business owners. Their staff is overwhelmed due to the doctors having high standards of the staff, but not providing them with the proper training. I have witnessed the wife yelling at member of the staff. I almost didn't want to believe I witnessed it when it happen, because I was so mortified for the woman she was attacking. I had high hopes for Dr. Adetona, and am disappointed and upset. I gave them several chances and let too many red flags go; however, the FINAL straw, was last month when their systems went down...all of the shot records and records of our visits WIPED OUT and lost forever... No track of my daughters visits, emergency related visits, nor dental records?! All of this has caused a huge inconvenience as now, as I am enrolling my daughters in a new school and am unable to do so without their updated records. Then when I called to get some sort of communication from the office to give to my daughters school, it wasn't sent to me - there wasn't even a follow up call. I am not interested in apologies for this inconvenience, there is no excuse for not having systems in place for a paper trail of records and/or the proper back up for their systems to ensure that none of them would ever be lost even in the event of a system shutdown. That should be standard protocol for any healthcare office. You've lost two new patients, and I can imagine there will be more. read more

I love Practical Approach Pediatrics. Dr. Mr. Adetona and Dr. Mrs. Adetona are very caring and really take their time to explain what they are doing and why. I started taking my 9 year old son here when he was about 4. They were smaller then with a pretty bare bones office. However, they always took care of my son and addressed any concerns I had. We moved out of state about a year later and both doctors took the time to tell me what I needed to do when I got to my new state and new doctor because my son was getting ready to start kindergarten. This past summer we returned to San Antonio and I knew I wanted to return to Practical Approach. I have always suspected that my son has ADHD. In my previous state I have been dealing with doctor after doctor to get some sort of diagnosis or direction to go so I could help my son who has struggled in school. Moving to Texas has been especially hard because any services that he received is in our old state could not transfer here because I needed to get a new medical diagnosis in order to be compliant with the new school district. I explained my dilemma to Dr. Mr. Adetona and he immediately went into action. Within 3 weeks he has given me the diagnosis that I need and with it the validation that I have been searching for these past 3 years from other doctors. My son is not a severe case but it does affect his ability to focus and learn in school. Dr. Mr. never made me feel like I was imagining the behavior or just couldn't control my kid. Both doctor and dentist, take their time when interacting with my kid I never feel like just another patient on a long list of patients. As I stated they are very thorough with each patient, so, plan accordingly. I make my appointments first thing in the morning or right after lunch. That seems to help lessen the time that I am waiting for the doctor . I had a late afternoon appointment once and waited forever but I can be patient since I know I'm going to get great service. Also, there does seem to be a lack of communication at times between the office staff and the doctors. I sent an email to Dr. Mr. that he requested from my son's teacher on the 9/28 and I could hear him asking his staff for it while we were waiting for our turn. I, specifically, called the office a week ago and asked if he had received it and they said yes. So, that was a little annoying but all in all nothing out of the ordinary. If you are looking for a doctor and dentist that is concerned about your children and will take the time to listen to your concerns then look no further! read more

Had some rough times here. my biggest take aways being: the Dr. had has license for vaccines taken away, he does not vaccinate. and the exam rooms have no sense of sanitation or sanitary paper on the exam tables (mentioned below) here are some other things that made me not enjoy me experience as a parent. 1. as a solo parent you can not bring in a stroller, the waiting room is plenty large enough to do so. squirmy anxious 3 month old was not happy (nor were my arms) 2. nothing about the exam room tells me it is clean: ex: no paper on the exam table, not to mention it's more of a massage chair? not an infant friendly room. it's a chair i'm the center of the room so no setting anyone down as they would fall right off. 3. no one EVER washed their hands. the sinks were always dry, no soap in the rooms we were in. we visited a total of 4 times. i noticed this all 4 times. 4. on our last visit, the doctor made his assistant cry hysterically, for something that was HIS fault. you could hear him yelling at her like a child in the next room. he made her apologize to us; i truly felt so bad for her...it was poor business practice and poor public relation. 5. rather than taking the time to go over my child's growth, i was handed a basic print out to go home with and review on my own time. these charts are not something i am familiar with what so ever. google became a friend during that time this place wasn't for us, but maybe for some it is. my family had just moved to san antonio and this seemed like a decent place. we were fooled. we have since moved on. thank you for your time. read more

The dentist was very nice and caring. She and her staff were ill prepared for my son not wanting to do X-rays or teeth cleaning and were impatient and abrupt with him. I feel this is really lacking in a pediatric office. The second issue I had was when I followed the dentist's advice to have two baby teeth pulled in my older son's mouth. I made the appt with a $50 deposit paid right away. Then one of the two teeth fell out on its own and I realized the other was very loose. I cancelled the appt well before the required 48 hour notice. But it took several phone calls and me ultimately going and sitting in the waiting room refusing to accept the answer of the billing department would review my account and contact me next week to finally have someone do a reverse charge on my same card. Absolutely ridiculous. Between the two incidents, we will not be returning. read more

Wow. I was told that they were open for discussion on delaying vaccines and doing a schedule parents are comfortable with. My 4mo daughter has had an appointment for her shots for a month now, came in and there was a dr who came in with major attitude that I said I won't be doing flu shots and will delay MMR. He cancelled her well visit, meaning we were here at the office and instead of checking my daughters growth and administrating her vaccines, he made us leave! WTH. So unprofessional. And had the front office say she would walk me out. Mind you, I was not being disrespectful, disruptive or anything. They made us feel so terrible about it. If you're looking for a pedi that cares about parent wishes, do NOT expect to find that here. They should have still done her well visit and kept it professional. Took my daughter to her first appointment here, seemed ok. Scheduled her second appointment that same day. A few days before the appointment I got a message that the office was closed due to an emergency. For the whole week. When I called back to reschedule I could not get an appointment until WEEKS later. That's 3 weeks after she's supposed to have vaccinations- pretty important since some people are not vaccinating their children. Today I got a message that the appointment for three weeks later was canceled AGAIN. In calling back repeatedly for rescheduling (on a Monday morning) there was no answer. No way to leave a message. Something is not right- we are going to a different doctor. read more

Dr Adetona is a great doctor. Both of them actually, him and his wife. But Im writing this rating for the CLINIC MANAGER. This clinic's medical staff is horrible. No sense of urgency when were talking about the health & well being of a child. Too much. Ive been seeing this pediatrician doctor for my daughter since she was born. It is just not right how the staff treats clients without "common sense" & outstanding rudeness. If you have not heard CUSTOMER SERVICE please train or talk to them about it. The nurse was awesome! The dentist was more concerned with telling me how and when to breastfeed my child than making sure my child had a good experience. The 20 minute lecture came with 3 minutes of traumatic dental care for my toddler. My 9:30 appointment happened around 10:00, despite my timeliness. They don't send the paperwork ahead of time, so I had to fill it out (roughly 8 pages) when we arrived at 9:20. There are ZERO toys in their PEDIATRIC waiting room, so while I tried to fill in outdated, repetitive forms that asked for social security numbers they DON'T NEED (at least three times the forms asked for it) my toddler was either screaming in my arms or trying to grab my pen. The dental patients wait in the same area as their medical (sick) patients... I could go on. 0/10 would not recommend. No strollers allowed in office, no food/drink, judgemental stares if you breastfeed... read more

We are so grateful to have one place for checkups, dental, and urgent care-- and feel so safe knowing that we can get this level of care from a reliable, friendly place when we need it most. We love Dr Adatona. He was great with our daughter and a really nice guy. But you have to look past the little things when your kids health is what matters. First they were constantly out of vaccines! My daughter is SO behind and our new pediatrician is gonna catch her up. They opened up an urgent care and the 2nd time we took our daughter, they suddenly didn't take our insurance and had to leave. (Just the urgent care). We constantly get text messages about how they promote same day sick apts until 5p, but when we called and tried to get an apt at 12p-3p, they said go to urgent care. We can't! UC quit our insurance! So they lied about that too. Also we get tons of texts saying how they apologize but they'll be closed here and there. We hated to leave the dr but his office/staff drove us away. Sorry read more

I took my daughter in because I noticed a really bad congestion and I was doing everything I could for her. Dr adetona walked in as if I was wasting his precious time and was talking to me in a real condinsating way. He didn't test her for the flu or rsv and NOW I'm going on a WEEK of my daughter being in the ICU with a breathing tube and feeding tube down her throat. Results??...it was the flu. If he would have tested her there for it withing the 72 hours of catching this nasty bug she probably wouldn't have gotten so sick. My advice....DO NOT GO TO THIS SO CALLED DOCTOR!! This is by far the worst experience in my life to see my 7 Mon old daughter go through this. I don't wish this upon anyone!!!! read more

Doc and dentist team are wonderful, warm and inviting, they take great care of my kids. I love that my son can get his dental check up and annual physical check up in the same appointment. Very strict on appointment confirmation, but they make it easy to confirm by texting and emailing you. Never used the urgent care, but glad to know it's there. I have had some long waits in the waiting room, but nothing like other pediatricians we've been to. read more

Since they deleted my review I have to write again do not apply for work here unless you want to work for free. They'll "hire" you on without telling you they're actually doing what's called a "work interview" so you won't be getting paid, but still trained on everything so they can train you without paying you and they don't tell you that. We met Dr. Adetona about 5 years ago, we stopped seeing him because he started to be very rude with me and my mother. He scolded my kid for taking a business card and he refused to treat my daughter when she got a very bad skin rash and swollen hands.... We left that day very worried, concerned and upset. After 5 years I took my kids to get a dental check up and his wife the dentist "mentioned" that my kids could have stolen a toy because they had one "very similar" to the one my daughter took to the appointment. Also she refused to treat her cavities saying we got to wait until they get bigger!!! She found several cavities and didnt want to treat them. I dont know why people keeps seeing these doctors, they dont know anything about bedside manners. Very sad and dissapointing that they called themselves christians and people of faith. read more

We've been bringing our 4 children here for two years, having an all in one stop was suppose to be great, but with the long wait times we might as well have our pediatrician and our dentist in two offices. They are expanding and hiring a lot of new faces and not retaining the old ones as far as I can tell, as they grow (with any business) they are getting impersonal and greedy, maybe out of necessity. The new expansion doubling there size comes with a lot of expenses and investor relations I'm sure, they forced us to have X-rays done for a dental cleaning on all the children, got rude when we requested it not be done this visit and told us the cleaning would not be done if we didn't get xrays. Even the assistant apologized after she left for her "pushiness". I used to really love the doctors Adetona, but I think big business has finally gotten to them. We will be moving offices, but on the positive side, The office will always be clean and no one is questioning the education and knowledge of the couple. I feel they are still great with the children, as well. Definitely not the worst doctors we've ever seen, but their commitment and attitude to helping people has definitely declined in the last year. read more

I took my 2 kids in for a wellness check up after being there 3 times before. My son was in for needed shots. I then realized that ALL THE RECORDS were lost by a faulty computer system. I would think that ALL medical facilities would have a backup system in place but this one did not. I could not be more frustrated as I was not aware what immunizations my child had previously. In addition, ALL my childrens dental records were lost. I learned all this as I walked in the office and proceeded to check in. I would think at least they would contact patients to let them know what had happened. To top it off, I witnessed the pediatric doctor belittling his staff in such a traumatizing way. I could not understand how the staff could undergo this type of disrespect from a medical professional. After all this, my children and I will never step into this medical facility again. Dr Adetona is the best very caring flexible and open minded. Very understanding and supportive of parents choices and never rushes. He even came to the hospital at 3am when we had our son even tho we were brand new patients. Be prepared to have quite a bit of patience with the admin staff. We can be placed on hold several times with them forgetting or mixing up who we are during an a simple appointment scheduling phone call...i cant say its better or worse than any other medical office admin ive experienced in san antonio...(so far all pretty bad) but the annoyance hurdle so far is worth the care we get from dr adetona and his wife they are rare finds! read more

I have taken my children to this dentist several times before and the majority of the staff has always been rude, but we dealt with it because the dentist herself is good and does not mind having the whole family (siblings included) in the room when performing dental procedures on your child. Yet even with as good as the dentist has been in the past, what happened last Tuesday with her staff was beyond rude, it was discrimination. Taking any kid to the dentist can be a very scary experience for that child. Taking an autistic child to the dentist can have that normally frightful experience turned up a notch, or more, depending on the level of the spectrum that child so happens to fall on. So when you take a comfort item for your autistic child, such as a tablet, into a pediatric dental office to help your child cope, it's the last place you would expect to find a problem at (especially with not one, but two T.V.'s playing in the waiting room) with stimming and other autistic behaviors, parents of autistic children often get judgmental looks and ignorant comments from strangers in passing out in public. It is unfortunate that there is not enough awareness on autism for everyone to understand why a child might be acting different, but hopefully as technology advances, that will change. However, inside of a PEDIATRIC clinic, there is no excuse for such ignorance of autism; especially when the child's condition is on file and written the paperwork right in front of the person who exhibited a problem. Yet, even though my son's diagnosis was right in front of her face, she addressed me quite rudely, "Mom! Can you turn the volume down?!" I explained he has autism and if I turn the volume on his tablet down (which was set below medium by the way) he would scream. This woman then bobbed her head, scoffed at me with a snarl and whispered something to the other receptionist and eyed my child in such a judgmental and demeaning way that I wanted to get him out of there right then, but I wanted my children to be seen by the dentist. When we were called back and walked by the front desk, the same woman glared at us with such contempt that it made me uncomfortable. How can someone be THAT disdainful over such a small thing?! All because my child required a different need to cope due to a condition that he was BORN with and cannot help?! At that point, I just wanted to let the dentist know what happened, get my kid's records and get them out of there. When I complained to the lady who called us to the back room, the dentist refused to see us! When I asked for my children's dental records, they first told me no. Then a different woman came in the room and said it would be a $25 charge for each child's record and now they are supposed to mail me their records. To top it off, no one wanted to know the details of what had happened or even the name of the staff member who had treated us poorly, yet the reason I was told that the dentist refused to see me is because I let them know we felt discriminated against. I told her we were discriminated against by the receptionist, not the dentist and I wanted the dentist to know what happened. The dentist still would not see me. Then, the girl who was talking with me in the back room took me right back to same receptionist who had treated us like with scorn to begin with! I had to request someone else to complete the transaction and charge my card for my children's dental records, because I did not want to give that receptionist a chance to treat us like that again. At least they did agree to that and she went to the back so we did not have to deal with her ignorance to autism again. It was really upsetting that the whole ordeal happened, as well as very disappointing that the dentist did not care enough to even hear the concerns from the parent of a returning patient. So parents of special needs kids, even though the dentist has been good in the past, it is not worth being treated with contempt by her receptionist, please save your child and yourself the headache and get your child's dental needs somewhere else. read more

His staff is very rude. They canceled the appointment of my 2 week old daughter because there was a wreck and I was 5 min late. They said I was late if I wasn't 10 min. Early. When I rescheduled I waited 45min before seeing the doctor. I had to have a make up vaccine appointment for my daughter and they lied on her file and said she was ill with an upper respiratory infection but the doctor never even examined her. Just a nurse giving her the shot. They refused to correct it and. Charged me for a sick visit saying that was there policy. So I transfered to a new doctor but his office refused to transfer over the files initially because I was working with insurance to try to clear up a messed up bill, but even after I paid they continued to with old her medical information until my new doctors office told them they had to release them. They kept spouting it's our policy but it's illegal to with hold anyone's medical files because of a bill. They did not care that they were doing something illegal. My insurance company even saidbi had grounds to sue, but I decided to just move on. read more

We loved Practical Approach and Dr. Adetona until last year. This is the only pediatrician my 4 year old has seen. We used to have personalized care and always felt valued. As the years go on, Dr. Adetona has longer wait times, less friendly staff, it takes longer to get an appointment, and we have now run into a vaccine issue. At my son's well check, we were informed Dr. Adetona did not have the vaccines he needed but should be getting them within a week or two. FIVE WEEKS LATER I have been informed they have not been ordered. I have requested 4 times for Dr. Adetona to call me and I have yet to hear from him. When we first became a patient of his, we would get a call back fairly quickly. With vaccines being an important issue for our family, I cannot, in good conscience, take my son back where they do not make him a priority and we cannot get basic vaccines. We won't miss the long wait times!!! read more

Horrible experience with billing staff. We called and set up an appt for our 20 month old to see Dr. Adetona for a dental checkup and were given an appointment several weeks out. One day before our appointment, we got a call from their billing office that they were having problems verifying our insurance and if they couldn't verify it by the end of the day, we would have to reschedule. Apparently they have a policy where they don't verify insurance until the day before, even though our appointment had been scheduled several weeks prior. My husband spoke to Nikki in the billing office twice and both times she seemed confused, saying that she was on hold with the insurance and would be unable to get us an answer that day. She was very abrupt and at one point made a derogatory comment about insurance under the Affordable Care Act, to which my husband replied that we are not insured through the ACA...I am an anesthesiologist! She told us that if we were uninsured it would cost us $145 but that we would have to pay $1000. What???? I nipped it all in the bud and told her that we were no longer interested in keeping our appointment. I didn't want to give a place like that our business. Not sure why Nikki had such a problem; I called my own dentist and they agreed to see my son the following day. They were able to verify his dental insurance no problem in 10 minutes and we only have a $20 copay! read more
