We pulled into the parking lot and there were quite a few cars. We started walking towards the playground, which is right next to a covered picnic area. There were no children when we first arrived, the playground just had grown men hanging out. There were grown men hanging out under the picnic shelter, a few acted like they were on drugs. There were men playing cards, men sitting on benches that were facing the playground and just talking on their phone. Older teens, hanging out underneath climbing toys. We left within five minutes and we would've left sooner had our two year-old grandson, not spied some playground equipment towards the back section. As we were leaving and looking by the lake, there were a few people fishing, but then I noticed homeless people living around the lake. I would definitely never suggest bringing a child to this park. It was also unkept with trash around it. It's really a shame because the lake itself looks pretty and the playground probably was updated not too long ago and has Astroturf underneath, but the whole atmosphere makes it unsafe. As we were leaving another family brought a couple of children to the park, but that is all of the children we saw at the park in general.

Bennett Park offers a quaint spot to hang out with the kids or get away for some much needed…read moreprivacy. Basically, Bennett is a square, its boundaries formed by trees on all four sides. It creates this little tucked away spot that feels rather intimate and protective. BP is using the coolest thing for landscaping ever-recycled rubber tread from tries. Colored in a rusty brown, I almost thought they were some type of wood chips until they gave way as I stepped on creating a very spongy walking experience. Do try. It's a great use of recycling-replacing the chance of splinters from wood and the reuse of materials. BP is a small park but has a pretty rockin' jungle gym along with a merry-go-round, basketball goal and miniature baseball/soccer field. I did get drunk though. No, alcohol isn't allowed in these places but it might as well have been after my stint on this other weird piece of equipment I can only describe as a one-man merry-go-round. I stood up straight while being spun around and completely lost all sense of direction and clear vision. BP should be on your list for a small getaway simply because of its quaint appeal and private ambiance.

HVP features a 0.4 mile, mostly shaded, mostly level, well-maintained trail winding beside Tomahawk Creek with one bridge and an open 14 acre multi-use area. The bird calls were plentiful and the sounds of traffic disappeared - nice. The park does not offer parking, but parking was available at nearby I-Lan Park. Overall, very nice!

The trees are huge and form a natural canopy over the playground and splash pad area. Currently reminiscing about how beautiful this park is and might have to take a stroll through it this weekend because there are so many great parks in the area it's easy to frequent those you live nearby. Thompson park is in the heart of Overland Park that I don't want to describe as a "hidden gem", because iykyk; but if not come find out what the hype is all about!

The next entrance over is baseball fields that have two connecting play sets inside the fenced area but I'm not sure if that's part of the park. GPS tried to take us to that area, but there is no sign that I saw that stated it was part of that name. The small place that area is where the park name marker of Monticello Spring Park is located. I think this park is good for people that want to have a picnic because there are picnic tables near the pond that are covered, and also people that would like to walk. The playset is newer, but basic.

This park is the true definition of "there is more than meets the eye". It is right next to the 3&2…read morecomplex fields. Not too small, not too big! Perfect place to watch the sunset, go on a run, have a picnic or play with your little one! There's also a quaint pond with a waterfall in the middle that you can only see if you take a small walk.
