I recently sold some silver to pmr. Some pure sterling and some weighted . These are two totally different grades of pay out. But in their initial evaluation they decided to bundle all the silver together and paying out at the lowest grade. After I pointed out that the pure sterling would be paid out at a higher rate they adjusted accordingly. This showed me that they knew that the value was greater and was willing to short me. If all owners took things this seriously, I would be blown away and I am a former business consultant who knows how challenging that can be for owners and mangers to accept the feedback. I uploaded photos along with an appraisal.An appointment was made at the Tanque Verde office.I arrived at the office and they were unaware that I was coming and seem to have no clue about the value of my watch or jewelry in general. The woman took a picture of my watch and sent it to their "watch specialist" in California who offered a value of less than1/3 of what A similar item but not the same quality was selling for on eBay. I left there less than an hour ago and had a funny feeling the woman I was talking to was either trying to get more out of me than she should have or thought I was an idiot... or both. I went in and she evaluated my jewelry and I realized I was dressed very casual and looked like I got hit my quarantine but thought I would'nt get judged in Tucson (having previously lived in the dc area). She definitely had a slight tone that made me feel like a child or incompetent. She kept asking me if I had more jewelry to sell and had a very disingenuous reaction when I said I had jewelry that I misplaced and needed to sell. But that didn't bother me. She quoted me $40. I said no thanks and that I needed to do more research and she immediately disengaged with me and wasn't even pretending to be nice. My father pasted away 15 years ago and left me his Rolex he received for his retirement. It was to large for my wrist and I came into precious metals refinery to get it fitted. I was first told they didn't have the tools to do that, then a gentleman named Dart who fixes watches, asked to look at it and said he thinks he can help. He was able to adjust the watch to fit. The trainee was nice enough when I brought in about twenty pieces from an estate sale to check the gold content and platinum content. But the manager, or whoever he was, spotted my sapphire ring and clearly called the owner, who sailed in and eagerly started looking at it, taking photos to send to his friend, and trying to shuck and jive me into giving it to him for a song. First he tells me it is "tanzanite." Trainee believes him. They test it and it is a sapphire. Then he tells me it is not that good a color. Tells me it is four, maybe four and a half carats. Says it is worth $1,500, maybe even as much as $2,000, if I am interested in selling. It is a 7.58 carat natural blue Ceylon sapphire, unheated, emerald cut, eye clean, mounted on platinum with side diamonds. I am now selling it through a very reputable jewelry company on consignment, I will get $16,500 when it sells. Their ads claim they pay the most; not in my experience. read more
