I totally disagree with these 1 & 2 star reviews. The breeder and seller can't possibly know for sure what the dog will weigh when they grow up - unless it's a "Tea Cup" breed which will cost you double! Bill (the owner) made it perfectly clear to us that our puppy would be between 11 and 17 pounds as an adult and that it's difficult to know for sure. She is now 13 pounds and we couldn't be happier. Since most of their puppies are "hybrids" meaning a mix of two breeds it is difficult to know for sure which breed will be dominate. Ours is a Havanese and Maltese mix so it's a "Havamalt". They DO allow you to handle the puppies even if you aren't going to buy! We were in there 10 times over 2 months playing with different puppies until we decided. They obviously won't allow unsupervised children to play with them and obviously non-serious buyers. Our puppy did NOT come from a puppy mill. We verified it. Our dog is the smartest dog I've ever owned and most healthy. We also love the groomer there. She does the best job and the price is great. She is friendly, efficient and on schedule. Our dogs love going there and are never stressed when groomed. As a matter of fact, we were there today! read more

This store is clean, friendly, and professional. The owner is extremely knowledgable and cares about the animals he sells. He owns dogs that have come through his breeders, to me, that says a lot. He is very knowledgable about the animals and asks questions to make sure the purchase is a good fit. He even offered to extend the amount of days the puppy could be on hold! We were also given advice on housebreaking methods. The owner is very accessible and wants us to call him if we have any concerns it questions. We were even given free puppy food! All of her papers check out as well! My little Boston Terrier is social, happy, and healthy. She loves people and other dogs. After a few days she is already getting the hang of housebreaking! She is not protective of her food at all. She shows no signs of a puppy mill dog. Her new family loves her so much and is very thankful for the amazing service. I highly recommend this place. We bought our dog from this place in 2015. The sales experience was fine. The salesman made everything seem legit and even provided USDA license numbers from the breeder. Come to find out, these USDA license numbers don't mean much and are typically flaunted to discourage thoughts of puppy mills. We did not know better at the time. While visiting a friend, I talked to a store clerk who dodged questions about whether or not the puppies here were raised in humane conditions. I was shocked at how much these puppies cost - equal to or greater than an AKC reputable breeder! I'm pretty sure my face said it all when the clerk told me the price of these puppies. I was pretty much ignored after that until I left. Really glad where I live now banned pet stores. read more

We recently purchased a Mini Australian Sheperd from Precious Pups in Edgewater. First, I loved the cleanliness. Second, I loved that the staff actually knew about the breed(s) and the temperment of each puppy. Third, I loved that they allowed us to visit a puppy to see if she would be a good fit. Our puppy is just amazing!! She is very healthy. We went to the vet (Liberty Animal Clinic) recommended by Precious Pups as the first puppy check up was included. The vet is amazing. We have purchased puppies (from another puppy store) and the puppies have always had a health issue. This is NOT the case with our puppy from Precious Pups. Our puppy comes from great "stock". The breeders used by Precious Pups are not puppy mills. I HIGHLY recommend Precious Pups to anyone looking into purchasing a puppy. We will be returning to Precious Pups for future puppies when needed. read more

The guy who owns the place is very rude. When my sister and I walked in no one even said Hi or anything. Then when I asked to hold a dog, he wouldn't let me because I couldn't give him a yes answer to buying a dog that day when I was looking for a dog to buy. I'm sorry but I'm not going to spend 1500 dollars if I don't know if I'm going to connect with it. The place is absolutely ridiculous. Now I see why there's a lot of the same dogs every time I look online.. because they don't let anyone hold a dog unless they are absolutely going to buy it! Terrible business read more

I worked at a vet clinic near by to this place and a lot of the puppies had things wrong with them or had problems later on. Most if not all of the dogs prob come a puppy mill. My suggestion is to rescue or if you really want a purebred then check out different breeders. The ones that have a solid bloodline will guarantee the dog will not have certain health problems, even later in life. read more

We got our puppy from here last year and was told that he would not grow past 10 pounds due to the size of his parents. He currently is over 22 pounds and the owner clearly lied to us about his size and also about his gps chip. I brought my puppy back a few months later and he claimed that he can't find the chip but I remember paying for it to be activated after I brought him home. Now reading all the reviews about puppy mills, I regret not going to SPCA and rescue a puppy. We don't regret bringing our puppy into our lives though because we love him too much. read more

Start to finish the least helpful experience in trying to find a new member of your family.... we entered the store to be completely ignore by the clerk who was busy watching this afternoons episodes of cops. Not to be deterred, we know it's not the puppies fault for bad customer service. We reviewed the prices of the puppies and found there was one that fit all of our needs and promptly asked if we could play with him. The clerk denied our request because "You're not serious buyers." We explained that we were indeed looking to buy a puppy. He said that, "You're not serious buyers unless you plan to buy a dog today." We bought a puppy here in 2008 that at first seemed perfect. As she got older her antisocial and fearful tendencies seemed to sound like other puppy mill dogs. Then she developed terrible seizures that we are still medicating her for today. When we finally did more research into the "USDA Approved" breeder in her file, we found that the breeder was shut down for being a puppy mill. Today was the first time my boyfriend and I have gone into this pet shop, we were just stopping by to look and say hi to some puppies thinking we could interact with them. As we walk in we see all the puppies in their "baby cribs " behind a glass enclosement. The first thing I notice is that these poor puppies have absolutely no beds to sleep on just A thin bunched up baby blanket on top of a cold grate.. all were sleeping and no one asked us if we needed any help. I don't think this type of shop should be operated, as well having these puppies in that type of environment. read more

I have not bought a dog here, but when I spoke to the owner he recommended a breed that he did not currently have, based on my family situation and the best interests of the prospective dog. To me, that demonstrates a sincere concern for the animals they sell, over immediate profit motives. I gave four stars based on my fairly limited experience, but I was quite happy with how my questions were handled and the owner's knowledge and professionalism. Our puppy has been healthy with specific behavioral traits such as , LOVES to PLAY, LOVES to sleep in my lap, unless husband is home, then she LOVES his lap, LOVES to get treats for going outside, LOVES to kiss and play with our other dog, loves toys. We were unfortunate enough to be convinced by the owner to pick up a Lhasa-coton that was bred poorly in Missouri , which is known for puppy mills. The dog was very fearful and aggressive. Last week, after 2 years of dealing with biting and aggression, we had to surrender her, at a huge emotional cost. But the situation was getting out of hand despite investing in good training, Stores like this are propagating poorly bred dogs and helping puppy mills. My sister recently purchased a English Bulldog puppy. I was present for the purchase. The owner recommended taking the puppy the first week to a Veterinarian who he suggested to honor the one year warranty. The precious pups is located in Edgewater , MD. The veterinarian is located in Baltimore, MD, an easy 45 minute - one hour commute. The place is far from Edgewater, unkept, unprofessional, and the Veterinarian recommended that we bring the puppy back to the owner because he felt the puppy had joint issues. Two consultations with veterianrians , including one who specializes in orthopedics dispute the original Doctor's claim of joint problems. So add incompetent to the list of earned insults. The puppy also developed pneumonia and the Doctor recommended one antibiotic that other veterinarians (unrelated) did not recommend. The bottom line, the referral veterinarian turned out to be a quack and the owner of precious pups confirmed he is a quack. So, why on earth would he send his customers there? Bill, the owner, said it costs too much to send customers some place else. Therefore, he would rather send you to a quack and receive poor care for the puppy then to spend money for quality. You have to wonder what other cost saving quality compromising tactics he is using. He also said the dog has a chip. We will verify that....stay tuned. read more

Sadly we've discovered that our puppy, that was purchased here is a puppy mill puppy. Please do not make the same mistake I did. Just ask any vet about all the issues you will have. read more

Just because the puppies are in 'cute cribs' and ropes others into buying their pups, does NOT mean these poor dogs don't come from puppy mills. Sure, you have a healthy, happy puppy now, but I would like to hear how healthy they are in 5-10 years. I know of one dog purchased from here who has a lot of health issues. NO reputable breeder would let their puppies be sold in ANY pet store no matter how friendly or nice the place is. I appreciate the other comments from people who say they would never support other pet stores, etc, but honestly you were tricked into believing this place is any different, simply because it's clean and has cribs. The parents are STILL off in puppy mills, and most of the dogs they sell are still 'mutts' (if you'd like to call them hybrids, that's fine). I am not against dog breeders, quite the contrary. But this place is no different than any other pet store. read more
