With current prices he could easily gouge customers and charge what everybody else is charging. Prices were great and owner changed my mind on my purchase. I found John to a non BS stand up guy. I'm willing to pay a little extra for John's knowledge . I know in the long run John has saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars in wast time ,aggravation and ammo. I went to John for a scope not knowing exact what I was after. Not a fan. While the owner was chatting it up with his customer/buddy, i lifted one of the guns on display and he loudly scolded me to not touch anything. Ok, but not like I was reaching behind the counter or something. When asked about a particular pistol I had an interest in, he showed me one afterwhich I asked him about pricing and price matching. He exclaimed he wasn't interested at all at trying to compete. "If you want their stuff then go there." Real crabby apple of a guy. Too many purveyors of firearms to be treated in a surly way. John is a great guy....very helpful and gets back to you right away...I honestly feel bad for giving a poor review. But, sorry John, your prices are too high. After buying a S&W M&P .22, I found it at American Shooting Center for $100 cheaper. Also, don't expect to pay for your purchases with a credit card and not be charged an extra 3% for credit card processing fees! Sorry John, but credit card processing fees are part of doing business and you shouldn't try to pass them on to your customers. Bottom line...before you buy from Precision Arms, shop around and find the best deal. If Precision Arms can't match the price, I would suggest purchasing elsewhere. And if you can't pay with debit or cash...expect to pay 3% more for your purchase. read more

I came here because I was interested in a firearm for home protection and as a hobby. I asked about the Glock 19 but the owner showed me a Beretta he had on consignment. It had allegedly never been fired and the discount of $250 off the retail price appealed to my frugal side. The owner was very knowledgable and helpful with the purchase. He answered all of my questions and was pretty patient with me even though the store was busy. Big plus here. However, I had a problem with the firearm shortly after its purchase and it turns out this shop puts absolutely no warranty on consignments, where Duncan's in San Marcos offers six months on consignments. I feel if you sell an item in your shop, consignment or otherwise, you should stand behind its quality to some degree. I was really let down by their unwillingness to take care of me and will be reluctant to buy from them again unless it is a new item. read more

Extremely overpriced firearms. Very knowledgeable owner though. Just be prepared to pay MSRP, if not more on firearms you purchase there. Ammo is also expensive. I bought my first rifle there and didn't regret since he was so knowledgeable. But after purchasing several more firearms from other dealers I would not purchase here again due to prices. read more

Came here for a Private-party-transfer (PPT) of a pistol after the corporate retail automaton's at Turner's San Marcos turned me down due to their corporate policy. John is very patient and knowledgable, will not try and sell you what you don't need, and everything was smooth as silk. Thanks John! The owner is a very experienced and talented gunsmith and specializes (but not only) in precision long-range rifles, if that's your thing, this is your place. The kind of custom builds he had laying around and was working on made me just kind of stand around and stare at stuff and ask a bunch of questions. Depending on how busy he is John is more than happy to share his encyclopedic knowledge and vastly extensive experience with you. Of course you will get more out of him when he doesn't have to finish a $6K rifle by tomorrow. The craftsmanship and skill that go into building a long range precision rifle are not equal among all gunsmiths, even the good ones. read more

just remember, don't pick up a gun, don't touch a gun, hell don't even look at the guns.. don't ask questions and while you're at it, just don't go there, and save yourself the time. Walking through the door you'll instantly feel like your presents isn't welcomed. I get it if I had walked in being loud and arrogant (I would respect someone for responding to arrogance with caution when pertaining to guns). Reading other reviews it sounds like if you're his friend cool, but if you are not already his friend then he isn't interested in making any new ones.... The place is small. Not a big selection but have some of the more popular guns. I went in afew times during covid. Everywhere was sold out and extremely overpriced. I was able to find a glock 26 and they had more in their selection. John was great to deal with. Very nice guy good attitude. Ive met many of these shop guys who just seem to hate dealing with people. Not here though i would definitely keep shopping at Precision. These guys aren't Big5. This is a great "hole in the wall" gun shop that can get ,or do, you what you need. If you want a BB gun or a Camo T-Shirt head over to Dick's. If you want a great firearm, especially a long gun, then head over here. My family has been working with these guys forever. I signed up for an account just to write a review on how terrible Precision Arms in Escondido is. I went in to have a scope mounted. The guy initially quoted me $50 but said he would look for some rings and get back to me. He called me the next day and said it would be $110. I agreed even though that is far more than the service should cost. He let me know that he would order the rings and would have it done within 3 days. The weekend plus 3 business days went by without a call. I called after 5 days to ask about my gun. He said he hadn't ordered the rings until 2 days prior but that he would have it ready in 1 -2 days (Thursday or Friday) Thursday and Friday went by with no call! The next week rolled around until Wednesday when I drove the 30 minutes to his shop to ask about the gun. It just so happened that UPS had dropped the rings off less than 20 minutes prior. How convenient... He mounted the rings and I was able to pick my gun up the next day. I went to get my gun first thing in the morning just as I had told him but had to wait for 20 minutes while he B.S'd with a friend. The friend offered twice to allow me to take care of my business but the owner Jon ignored him and continued to shoot the s$#@. After 20 minutes I had the opportunity to pay and be on my way but not before the owner insulted my firearm and scope by calling them cheap. I know guns and a $900 scope is not cheap. Regardless, I will never shop at Precision Arms again. The owners services and products are substantially overpriced. The owner is rude and offers customer service worse than Wal Mart. I have been dealing with Precision Arms for more than 8 years. This is one of the premier shops in the area. I have bought several rifles and a revolver from these guys. I have always gotten good service and advice from the folks there. John is the type of guy that would prefer to loose a sale rather than sell junk, or have a customer waste their money. Your Previous Reviews 1/24/2013 Edit » Precision Arms, the place seemed nice enough so I went in to Purchase a PTR MSG91SS. When I bought the gun in the store it was complete as it is in the sales brochure complete with a Harris Bipod attached to the rifle. Please see http://www.ptr91.com/pro.... I didn't have any reason to believe that a bipod didn't come with the rifle. I bought the rifle on 12/19/12 and picked it up on 1/2/13. You can well imagine how the prices of assault type rifles appreciated within this short time period. However, when I went to pick up the rifle the Harris Bipod was missing. I asked him about it and he stated " The Bipod didn't come with the rifle" So I gave him the benefit of doubt paid my balance and took the rifle home. I thought about it and reread the sales brochure and and came to the conclusion if it was missing I should be entitled to a Harris Bipod. So I started a investigation into the whereabouts of the missing bipod. I called the PTR factory. The PTR representative informed me that they have a extensive quality control program and all items are checked for completeness before shipment. Especially the flag ship of their product line the PTR MSG91SS. He said I could rest assured the gun was shipped complete with a Harris Bipod when it left PTR in Connecticut. I called the distributer that sold the gun to Precision Firearms and they assured me that they didn't even open the box. In any event, I called John at Precession Arms and informed him of the information above. He told me "A bipod didn't come with it but he would refund my money in full when I brought the gun back" If you think about it, that is not a deal by any stretch of the imagination as he would resell it for way more than I purchased it for. The gun appreciated by $500.00 at that point. He then called me back and left a message on my I phone and said "The tag said it didn't come with a bipod and he didn't know what happened. The gun MSRP is $2700.00 and he sold it to me for $2500.00. He would be willing to sell me a bipod that would work on the rifle for $295.00. If I wanted to work it out call him back" I didn't see the need for any further communication. I did look thru the case and never saw a tag or anything in regards to the status of the Bipod. I think I have a pretty good idea of what happened to that bipod. As the saying goes "It is what it is". PTR was the gem in the whole affair and offered to sell me their latest and greatest bipod at cost. To them, I say Thanks. Everything worked out in the end. I sold the rifle due to pending California legislation ( made $500.00 ) and transferred the rifle using a reputable FFL dealer with the help of Yelp. I am interested in purchasing a Barrett MRAD 338 with a U.S. Optics Scope that will be compliant with the new California firearm legislation. John is wonderful and very knowledgeable! My friend and I (two women) visited Precision Arms today for the first time. We know very little to nothing about guns but were interested for home protection. John spent a lot of time with us, showing us all the different options. He showed us revolvers and semi-automatics. He showed us how to properly hold the guns and the process of loading (fake bullets) and shooting. John told us the pros and cons of each type and even offered that we could accompany him to the range to try actually shooting different guns. He couldn't have been more patient. I am a firm believer in supporting local businesses. In needing to purchase 3 guns for an upcoming trip our family is planning, I decided to buy locally from an independent. Upon a quick yelp search to find a local dealer we came upon Precision. As a local business owner myself I understand that customer service is the most important thing in standing out. I was in this shop today at approximately 3pm. And unfortunately didn't catch the workers name (I will not use the term gentleman due to his rudeness) he was a fairly tall man if that helps in identifying him. I'm not sure if he was having a bad day, but regardless, his blatant rudeness to our family was not attractive. When asked a question we felt as if he thought we were stupid by his sarcastic response. Needless to say we were in and out of this shop in 3 minutes in search of a friendlier experience. As a customer I expect to be treated kindly. I don't mind if I'm spending $1.00 or the almost $3,000. That I ended up spending today at another shop. Customer service is what makes a business owner successful. The other gun shop will continue to get my business on the excellent customer services family was given today. I hope the owner of Precision reads this and by vague my description can identify this employee to hopefully give them a class in what customer service is. I would want someone to tell me if my business didn't perform to the highest of standards. read more

First off, I have been shooting since I was 8 and started buying firearms when I could in the early '70s. I have been in many many gun stores over the years,some good and some bad. I read all of the positive and negative reviews here and on other sites about Precision Arms and decided to go and see for myself. I am really having trouble finding anything negative to say. John was cordial, answered my questions and put up with my stories. A great guy. Inventory is great and NOT like the "Black Rifle Only Stores" A traditional gun store in a modern setting. Prices are very much in line and slightly better than other dealers in the area. I did make a purchase and am very pleased with the deal I got. This is the traditional small, family owned gun shop. The kind that is dying out all over America and the kind that anyone who supports need 2A needs to patronize. John does business on the level and he will not steer you wrong. I try to give this shop as much of my business as possible whenever I can and a lot of my friends do too. He has a lot of odds and ends but if you ask him for something special order he will usually give you a VERY competitive price because he knows it's not going to sit on his shelf for six months. Some interesting consignment items there. Bring cash if you want the best price, accepting credit cards costs money. Most retailers tack an extra 3% onto ALL of their products to cover credit fees. John does the opposite and only charges you the CC fees if you actually use a credit card. I pay cash for everything and appreciate the savings, especially on a $2k or $3k purchase. read more
