Their customer service (one individual, George in particular) is extremely hostile and unprofessional. Not only did I have my appointment rescheduled 4 different times, when I came in for my final appointment I was told that I had the wrong time and the person was unavailable to complete the service. Rather than being apologetic, George began to raise his voice at me and insist that I had the wrong appointment time. I am a teacher and have the same schedule every day. There is no way that I would have scheduled it for the time that George insisted because I am literally TEACHING IN THE CLASSROOM but nevertheless he persisted. My 2014 Honda Civic needed its annual NY state inspection before my wife and I took it on a road trip to visit family. We were on a tight deadline. Mike assured me that he would get it done and have my car back to me in time, and he totally followed through on his promise. It turns out that my car had an issue with the rear shocks. Mike called me right away and gave me an extremely fair price. He knew that I needed the car back and that I wouldn't have had time to shop around. I've been bringing my car here (and to the body shop) for a few years and have always found them to be quick, honest and reliable. I'earve had minor work (inspections, maintenance, fluids and brakes) done here over the years and have always been happy with the work. I think everyone has a little anxiety about getting ripped off when they bring their car in to have work done; it's hard to find a place you trust. I've definitely found my place in Precision. I typically have a good idea as to what I need before I bring my car in but Val has always been good about explaining what they find and what the cost is going to be before anything is ever done. Just for recent routine maintenance, code pulls, etc, I received a phone call and explanation for anything they thought needed work and we aligned on next steps and cost before hanging up. Work is down pretty quickly and thoroughly. They take the time to reset your oil and inspection counters and do all of the little things I've seen missed, even at the Audi dealership. I'm actually surprised at the negative reviews. I think a lot have to do with communication, on both sides. There will be times when both sides aren't completely aligned on what the situation is, so it's important to slow down and talk it out and fight the compulsion to just "yes" things without knowing what the deal is 100%. Yes, there are cheaper shops out there, but this is one of those cases where you really do get what you pay for. Peace of mind is worth it. read more

I just visited Precision Auto Works for the first time. I live nearby and needed a state inspection and an oil change. Mike was extremely transparent with the pricing and he did a wonderful job! I initially thought $119 was a bit high for a full synthetic oil change (not TOO high but just a little bit more than what I am used to paying.) However, the car feels GREAT! Im a longtime customer from the old location of Precision. Wasnt sure what to expect with the new one. You hear bad things about franchises. Boy i wasnt disappointed. This winter was a bad one and i hate to say it my car fell into neglect. Thank goodness for val and michael over at precision. I came in for a flat and val quickly found out why. Turns out my car was not up to code. I wont go into the details of what was wrong but val went to great efforts to fill me in and as it was a flat i came in for how he could help me out on the cost. As it was something i needed a consensus on (its my wifes baby and we just got hit with some surprise expenses as of late) we had many phone calls before the work could even begin. Val a trooper didnt drop a clean polite demeanor. Even after searching the car several times for a missing wheel lock key (turns out the guy who helped me on site misplaced it). I used the restrooms while i was there. Clean comfortable lavatories. Whole space was a great one for waiting. Even got a considerate follow up call from val to see if i made it alright as i had a long trip with the car. Wait did i mention they helped me out with pricing since i was on a very tight budget? I'm extremely disappointed with my experience with Precision Auto Works. I scheduled an appointment on Monday, the appointment was confirmed on Tuesday, and I received a reminder on Wednesday for the appointment time of 9:45 AM on Thursday. After driving to the location stated in the reminder email, I was informed that the correct site for inspections was on the other side of Long Island City. Upon arriving, I was curtly told that the inspector was not in today, that I would have to be without the use of my car for an additional day if I wanted it to be inspected by them, and that I should have called ahead to confirm my appointment and didn't it mention that in the confirmation of the appointment. I don't particularly mind that the inspector was unavailable as life is uncontrollable. I think failing to reach out to customers with scheduled appointments that they have to be cancelled is reflective of a poor sense of responsibility towards customer service and suggesting that the onus for the issue is on the customer's end is indicative of a subtle contempt for the customer. On this basis, I'll be sure to avoid dealing with Precision Auto Works in the future. If the management of Precision Auto Works is so concerned, I think it would behoove them to ensure the following. First, ensure that the information provided in customer facing emails is clear and unambiguous. Second, all service sites should be able to check a customer appointment and verify that the appointment can be held (which would have made the fifteen minute trip to the alternate site unnecessary). And third, it should be a standard policy if a customer's appointment cannot be held, the customer should be reached out to as soon as possible so that they can reschedule and make any necessary arrangements. I think these are all reasonable measures and don't unduly burden staff while helping the customer in the case of an unavoidable issue on the part of the business. read more

Honest, reliable auto shop in LIC with excellent customer service. I was first introduced to this shop when I had to get my car inspected after an out of state purchase. When it came time to perform scheduled maintenance for the car I was hesitant to use a local shop instead of the dealership since the car, a 2017 Mercedes C300, was new and expensive (at least for me). I decided to take the car in and was very happy with the result. Mike and the other gentleman there were knew exactly what had to be done and even had licensed Mercedes software to reset the Service indicator when it was done. Mike was also kind enough to explain how they were able to source authentic high quality parts for the service and how they licensed various computers directly from manufactures to service cars correctly unlike other shops that cut corners. I've used numerous mechanics over the years so I know how hard it can be to find a trustworthy mechanic. When I first moved to Long Island City I was a bit worried about finding a reliable shop in the area but after my two visits I can confidently say that I recommend this place for anyone looking for auto repairs. Last week I was at my Volvo dealership getting my scheduled maintenance and was told that it would cost a ridiculous amount of money to change my rear brake pads. I called Precision as a consultation and was told by Val that the price is crazy and to get parts myself from the dealer because they couldn't get them since the car is very new and that they would install and just charge me labor.
