I came back after 2 hours, and my car was still sitting in the exact same spot it hadn't even been moved. Before leaving, I specifically told Rey that it was very important for my car to be ready on time because I had a flight to Europe to catch. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to matter. If you're considering using this location, I highly recommend reading the reviews first. I didn't want to waste my time writing a review, but after this experience and seeing that I'm not the only customer complaining about the same issue I felt people should know what to expect. I took my car to the pep boys at 2633 East Tremont avenue in the Bronx yesterday to buy four tires for my car. I was told it would take 2 hours and this was after taking off time from work. Literally 5 hours later I discovered that my car was done on my own because I saw it out back - no one told me anything. It was hardly anyone of them than myself in the waiting room all this time and I heard loud shouting and arguing going on in the repair bays so I have no idea about the mechanics or their mindset. Frankly I have zero trust it was done correctly or that the tires were ever even balanced the way that they were supposed to be. I'm going on a very long drive up to New Hampshire and back this week and when I called their complaint line was told that someone would get back to me in 48 hours - but I need to have this actually addressed so I can have the tires that another location removed and balanced and put on properly by Monday morning. No promises are being made to me that this will be done in time or how that leaves me if I am driving long distances on tires not properly installed or that they will take any responsibility for shortened tire lifespan. I got excellent service at the 21st St (Long Island City) Pep Boys for my older car on two occasions recently. The first was installing a tire and the second was more comprehensive work. On both occasions, Rey K. was the customer service rep. He communicated everything about the repairs up front and offered a fair price. The work was done efficiently and expertly using high-quality parts. I think it helps if you take advantage of their computerized system and order your repairs on the website, then call ahead in the morning to make sure they have the parts, before you go there. Came here and dropped off my rental car for a tire. Just 1 tire. On top of taking 4 plus hours to get approval from the rental company, they took another 2 plus hours just to change the damn tire. I had a repair done at one Pep Boys location, which failed to resolve the issue. A second repair at another location repeated the same unsuccessful procedure, compounding the problem. Despite multiple emails and a frustrating phone call with corporate--where it was clear no one reviewed my service records--my car remains in disrepair. Since October 10, 2024, Pep Boys has failed to provide a resolution or even acknowledge my concerns. Their warranty period has now lapsed, and I've lost hope of being compensated for their repeated errors. I was waiting to pay my bill for my NY State Inspection, put my cap on the middle counter so I can take off my jacket (mind you I'm at the left counter waiting for Chris, the manager to get off the phone so I can pay my bill) and Brandon at the counter immediately said "Get your hat off my counter and had a nasty attitude toward me, the customer even though he wasn't handling my transaction as Chris the manager was. Mansfield/Ontario Ohio Scam I took my Subaru Forester there for new tires and a battery last Saturday. I was quoted a little over $1000 on the phone for both but when I got there, Anthony told me that price was only for the tires. I should not have ignored this red flag, but I did and I allowed them to take the car to put tires on it and they told me it would be done in about an hour. After an hour and a half I received a phone call saying that they just started working on my car and that four of the lug nuts were cross threaded, and they wanted hundreds of dollars to fix the studs. The last people that serviced my car was the Subaru dealership and I've never had any issues there before, so I was fairly confident that Subaru had not crossed threaded. I went back to Pep Boys and to stop the service on my car and I told them I was no longer interested in the new tires. I've had family members have issues with services at Pep Boys, but never tires. I was worried that they were now doing the same thing they had done to my Family member. My family member previously took a vehicle to Pep Boys for service and was told their turbo was cracked and it would be thousands of dollars to fix, but when they took it to another mechanic, there was nothing wrong with the turbo. I also had another family member that took the car there for service and Pep Boys said there was several things wrong with it and my family member ended up paying hundreds of dollars and later found out that the parts Pep Boys replaced were not the parts that needed repair. But like I said, I've never had any issues getting tires, but I realize now that Pep Boys scams people. After the technician, Anthony, put the wheels back on my car I asked him to confirm exactly how many lug nuts were cross threaded, and on which wheel. He said there were two cross threaded on the drivers front and one cross threaded on each rear. I took my car to Buttons today, they're great by the way, and he was found that I now have seven cross threaded lug nuts. I believe Pep Boys cross threaded the first four lug nuts to get additional hundreds of dollars on my service. However, I do have proof that they cross threaded at least three additional. I have the technician, Anthony, from Pep Boys in Mansfield Ohio on camera saying only four were cross threaded so he crossed right at minimum and additional three. read more

I attempted to return a core today that I purchased end of May. Had gone away for a bit and the previous store manager said I can bring it in whenever to get the refund. When I came in the sale rep who I believe was named sal told me I would have to come.back when another manager is present during the weekday. Something nearly impossible for me to do. He inquired with kevin the general manager on duty who also stated there was a time limit for me to return it and he was sure it's past due. I expressed my frustration and stated I cannot come back with this thing I didn't understand why I couldn't be reimbursed as I was told. He stated they don't know how to do it and the manager who charged me for the core no longer works there. I asked for the corporate number to which I was told "I don't know what it is." I needed this to file a formal complaint. Your staff should not only know how to perform this basic task. But also definitely know the number to your corporate store so that general complaints can be filed. Total lack of professionalism. The short: If you don't know about cars, I would not bring your car here; this is one of those shops that will try to trick you into getting things you don't need. Whether it's malicious or due to incompetence, the end result is you will most likely be overcharged. The Long: Brought my car in bc it did not start, they diagnosed my issue as the starter + ground wire + and battery, and then recommended spark plugs as well. Quoted around 1600 initially, when I hesitated they said they could just do the necessary work to replace the starter battery and ground wire for 1200. My usual mechanic who was out of town knows my car and promised me I only needed a new battery. I had them replace just the battery - they tried to tell me there's no guarantee my car would start. Charged me 360; 260 for the battery and 100 to give me an incorrect and overcharged diagnosis. My car starts without an issue with just a new battery. read more

I had a nail in my tire so I bought 2 new tires to have the tire w/ nail replaced. I wanted to have the 2 best tires put in the back and 2 new tires to go on the front. After 3 hours of my car being at the shop I got a call that my car was ready so I went to pick it up. After I paid and was given the keys the same tire with the nail was still on my car and was flat... $200 and 4 hours later my car is just as bad as it was when I dropped it off ?? Lol it's a joke! After waiting 40 minutes in the shop the problem was resolved but when the guy pulled my car out of the garage he almost hit me with it... It gets better! I have been to this location for 3 years, it was a scam. Please avoid. My car kept having more problems every year I went back. I spent thousands of dollars every time for inspection. They told me my brake was broken because last year someone else at Pep Boys did something wrong to the brake and they had to re-do it again and I had to change two tires etc. I took it to a top Yelp rated Auto Shop in Astoria - completely different story - just need to switch a part of the brake, no problem with the tires. I would have had spent over $1k at Pep Boys but instead, it only cost me $120 for a very satisfactory service at a smaller good service auto repair shop. I won't mention their name because it would sound like advertising. I was a loyal, unsuspecting customer for years and got chased away. No wonder your Yelp rating is down in the yellows. (More specific on the brake - your associate told me the reason why my brake was not working was because someone else at Pep Boys used a poor quality material last year (not his responsibility because he was not there) and all he could do was to replace it with a better quality one (and more expensive). Do not go here! We dropped off our truck for service(oil change and new break pads) and the only thing they were able to do was change the oil after 4 hours! They had the courtesy to call not to give us an update but to let us know that our head lights had to be replaced. We discovered that our head light bulb was DAMAGED in the process of them replacing it(see picture)!!!! Of course the mechanics played it off that it wasn't them! I like going to Pep Boys in general because everyone who I've ever had an encounter there has always been a professional. They always worked with me to make sure that what I am paying is fair. The last time I was there, they were able to use coupons that I didn't even know was available to bring down the price of the work that was being performed to a level that I can afford. Throughout the process, someone called me to provide status of how long something would take. If there was a delay, I was told that there is a possibility even though in the end, they were able to return my old Nissan Altima 2005 back to life at the original time they estimated. The important thing for me is that they were transparent and set my expectations. Matthew at the LIC location is great to work with. As far as the space is concerned, plenty of parking (albeit its located in a busy street). The waiting area is a good size and always clean. I believe coffee is free. The bathrooms are clean. I wouldn't necessarily recommend staying there to wait for your car if its going to take a significant amount of time. Like I mentioned, they communicate well, so you are better off going home if you can and wait for word on your repair. read more

I called and spoke with Angelo, who said the shop was closing within an hour at 7pm. Fast but not friendly. I've been here 3 times for either an oil change or an inspection or just to get something for my car. Each time didn't seem to be easier. First my inspection. They didn't want to do my inspection, telling me that my tint was too dark. I protested with them and they told me I needed to speak with the people that did my tint to confirm otherwise my car would fail inspection. So as I was driving to my tint spot, I just went somewhere else to get the inspection done. I did come back to do my oil change. They charged me an extra $15 from the last oil change I had with the claims that I needed to put full synthetic oil in my car. While I know full synthetic is better if it's not necessary, I don't want to pay the extra. The salesman told me if I opened a pep boys credit card I could save on my oil change... They took no responsibility, and didn't even offer any kind if compensation or refund for the issue. Writing this review for my boyfriend because even I'm irritated at the moronity of this place. 6 hours to fix a flat tire yesterday - 3.5 hours in the tech got the wrong part, another 2 hours for them to get the correct part and fix it. He left with the "low tire pressure" signal on - tech said it should come off in 30 mins. Well it didn't it. Today my boyfriend is there and the manager says he has techs working on two cars at once. HE WOULDN'T BE THERE IF YOU MORONS FIXED IT CORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME AROUND. No one should have to wait for poor service. I took my car in for an oil change, state inspection and alignment. 1. No one asked me what type of oil to use. My car has never had synthetic oil nor does it require it. 2. All totaled this oil change cost me $118! Four months ago when the oil was last changed, it cost me $55 total at another service company. 3. I get a phone call that you need new brakes. Rotors and pads. Really? The brakes were fully serviced and rotors and pads were replaced in March of 2021. I KNOW that I have not driven over 15k miles since I had that done. Brakes are good for at least 25k miles or more. And if there is a problem, I would take it back to the person who did the repair, because either the parts or the workmanship were faulty. 4. They said I need a new battery. Its at 12.5 and its supposed to be at 13. Honestly? Battery going to die tomorrow? No? Then I dont want it. All I hear from the other end of the phone is "but but but". No is no. I will take it back to who did the repairs originally. "But but but....". No. Do what I authorized and thats it. 5. They did not fill the wiper solution container. Every other place I have had service done, this has always been a courtesy when having repairs done. Not at Pep Boys. They didn't even ask if I wanted it filled for the price of a gallon of fluid. 6. The store front/customer waiting area is terrible. What is up with the drop cloths hanging from the ceiling, blocking off all the floor space? Mismatched chairs. No TV or even muzak. No free wifi. No complimentary coffee or a vending machine. I've been to the one in Haskell NJ The one on Route 46 The one in Clifton NJ!!! And the service I got was not pleasant whatsoever! If you need work done!! Took my car here a few days ago and told them the noise that the brakes were making. They proceeded to fix the front brakes and I foolishly trusted them. The noise was still there so I took it back and they said I needed to change the rear brakes, so I did. The noise is actually worse now and I can't help but thinking that the brakes were completely fine and never needed to be replaced. They did work great before and they work great now but that scraping noise is still there and even louder. They conned me and I'm a sucker, what can I say. read more
