The shop is dirty & the office was a hoarders paradise. I overlooked the mess, persistent to buy locally in Santa monica. Big mistake. They charged 250$ to install the backup camera I provided. I had to return the next day. The R back light & R turn signal malfunctioned. They argued, there was nothing wrong. I left to walk my dog. When I returned it was fixed. They gaslite me, again, saying there was nothing wrong with it. As I was leaving, the owner stood at my window & asked for 50$. ??? Adding insult to injury; My convertible top stopped working. The shop did not return the boot shelf to it's original position. Google instructions led me to the boot. The shelf was detached ,laying at the floor of the boot. Not able to manage the Google repair instructions I will have to take it to another shop for repair. Do NOT make my mistake. read more

I brought my son's razor electric trike in for service. While its a bit hard to find (entrance is in an alley), and it took longer than estimated (and I had to call to get the update that the repair was done), the repair quality was great and very reasonably priced. I had him repair a very complicated Audio Research amp (Classic 60) for my best friend, without adequate schematics (AR changed parts, etc over time and didn't have all the info for a technician). Now like new. I just had a Nakamichi 7A cassette deck repaired included cracked spindles (unit is about 40 years old) on a regular maintenance repair for typical worn moving parts. I've been chasing down a weird bug in my '96 Volvo wagon that would cause my power locks to constantly lock and unlock--months of googling and going to a couple of Volvo specialists to no avail--I didn't even want to drive the car , the problem was so annoying. Finally, I was referred to Sam and his crew at Precision by a trusted mechanic but to be honest, I thought "how/why would a place called 'Precision Sound' be able to fix this problem?" so I sat on the idea for half a day. Fortuitously, later that day I was in the neighborhood and so popped in to see what they thought of the problem. They looked at the car for a couple of minutes, asked a couple of questions, went and looked at some schematics, and were able to replicate the issue at will, which gave me some confidence that they (in the course of about 15 minutes) were able to narrow down the problem. Lo and behold, they were able to fix it by the next day--I would have paid twice what they charged, I was so happy to get the issue fixed but what they charged was very reasonable. I had a really great experience with Precision Sound. J.R. Helped me with my request to have a "hot" 12 volt adapter installed into my Volkswagen Jetta. They were able to install it for me within one hour and they anchored the adapter in a perfect spot on top of the shelf in my glovebox. The workmanship was flawless! I bought a BOSS 550B car stereo unit to replace my malfunctioning Chrysler 200 factory audio unit some months ago and needed someone trustworthy to install it. I searched several car audio shops in the Santa Monica area and came upon Sam and his crew at Precision Sound & Service. They were very helpful and courteous, so I had them install my BOSS stereo. A few months later, after a software issue, the BOSS factory sent me a replacement unit, so I took it back to pay Sam and his team to swap it out in a re-installation. I have a 1990 Toyota Dually 10 foot Van which I purchased from Penski in 1994. I had a TeleTrac Vehicle Locator installed along with a Code-Alarm with pager and a Motorola Speaker/Microphone adapter for my analog Motorola Micro-TAC flip phone. Later I had that Speaker Phone removed and replaced with the newer version for my analog Motorola Star-TAC. Then I went to a Digital Star-TAC, and later upgraded to my current Motorola HF1000 Blue Tooth. About a week ago entropy finally took over and defeated my 26 year old alarm. All the old wiring was still stuffed up behind the dash of my truck along with a bunch of other added equipment which is still in use. Precision Sound & Service came highly recommended, so I took it into them and hoped for the best. I knew this was a mess and dreaded having someone digging around in all those old wires. They did a first class job with the installation. They cleaned out the rat's nest of old wires and all the other stuff still works. I am so pleased with the excellent job they did and the new Viper Alarm they sold me is easy to use and works exactly the way I wanted it hooked up. I was prepared for the worst and I got the best! I went to three different auto sound places to try to fix my Outback's B&O radio & screen. It had "delaminated" and a known issue among this particular head unit. The Subaru dealer wanted over $1400 to replace, if they could get a replacement. The other more known repair shops in Santa Monica also wanted to charge a lot with no guarantee of success. I went by the reviews of Yelp and Google and took it to Precision. They may not have the most "business like storefront", but everyone raves about them and now I know why. They took the time to locate the parts I needed rather than replace the unit. There were some hiccups along the way but every time I had a minor glitch they saw to it to fix it quickly. Very thankful to Sam and his crew for fixing what is effectively a factory defect and should have been recalled by Subaru. Fair and honest came up in the review summaries and I will certainly attest to that. read more

The best. Imagine if your papa and brother ran a sound place. They are so nice and so fair and so reasonable! Years ago, I went there for a hookup for my (then new) iPod, and Junior did a terrific job for a fraction of what it would have cost at a fancier place. Today, I went in because my speakers were shorting. Turns out, my cable was bad. This time, the Dad took care of me and gave me a new cable and tested it out and drilled some holes in my iPod and iPhone case so the larger cable head would fit in there. All for 8 bucks. It's hard to find. There are no visible signs, and it's kind of in the alley. But please please seek this out for any sound needs you might have. Here's a helpful hint: it's across the street from Yarns Unlimited on Pico, which has a HUGE sign. So look for that and then cross the street. read more

Sam and his son at Precision Sound did a fantastic job repairing my turntable. I broke a wire in the tonearm while changing out the cartridge and totally screwed up my system. Sam ordered new wires, took apart the tonearm and totally rewired it for me. They called and communicated every step to keep my expectations on timeline, parts and price every step of the way, and finished the job faster than expected. Now, as others have said, this place doesn't look like much, it feels a bit like a junkyard in the back of an old house. But, trust me, these guys are pros. Sam not only fixed my turntable but lubed up the motor and expertly balanced the tonearm... feels like a totally new setup. Keep in mind, this was a pretty high end (about $1K) platter. Long story short, don't judge a book by it's cover. If you need professional stereo repair services on the west side, these guys are tops. read more

Sam and J.R. installed back-up sensors in my new car. Not only were they about $150 less than the other quotes I got, but they couldn't have been nicer. Took me to my office, picked me up after the repair was done. They also took a small panel from my car so they could match the color and took the sensors to a nearby body shop to be painted so they blend in with my bumper. They instructed me on the use of the sensors and made some adjustments to make sure they were working perfectly. I am a very happy camper. I highly recommend this shop. read more

I've been going here for years. They do great work and are super honest. They have done work for me before for $250 that I'd gotten quoted $2000+ for at a fancier place that said "you need a completely new set of wiring" - PSS pointed out my 20-year-old speakers just had dry rot and replacing them with the cheapest equivalent would restore sound to previous exact same quality. $180 set of speakers, $70 of labor and I was done. Then yesterday I thought I needed to replace my front speakers b/c of a static noise they were making, but the PSS tech just pointed out that a BMW-installed left-right balance dial mounted below my (after-market) stereo was dirty and created the noise, then redid the wiring to circumvent it since I can just use the balance knob in the strereo. Problem solved. He worked on it for an hour. No charge. I got my replacement car stereo there too. I've always been very happy with this place and their honesty. This place was suggested by a mechanic friend. Am I glad! My 2015 Boxster had radio and rear camera issues. Sam and J.R. Called around to dealerships and determined all was needed was a software update. The rear view camera works perfectly now. Getting into rear of radio unit means taking apart dash and console, a laborious and delicate task. Many plastic clips, easily breakable. All this was done in one day! Car looks exactly like I left it. For $300! Dealer would have been so much! Don't let the modest appearance of this place put you off, honesty lives here. read more

i have a touch screen navigation with satellite radio and a backup camera put into my car and in my opinion almost everything was done poorly. 1. they cracked the center bezel that i paid $400 to have modified and refinished to look like carbon fiber. when i pointed it out the guy told me "it cracked because the plastic is thin" the owner wound up taking $230 off the $630 installation cost. 2. the sensors for the navigation and the sat radio were installed under the windshield vent like i had asked but were left dangling into the vents because they did not fit under the vent cover without modifying the vent cover. which all it needed was for the vent cover to be ground down by about a quarter of an inch. 3. the zip ties that held the backup camera wire were not trimmed. 4. an interior trim screw was missing and when i asked where it was he came out and installed a completely different screw which tells me he lost it. it looks different then all the other interior screws. 5. the screws that hold the center console down were installed in the wrong holes which did not fit therefor they stuck up by 1/4 of an inch. one of the screws heads had been sheered off and was just left sitting in the hole. 6. the car was left filthy. finger prints everywhere. pieces of plastic were left on the floor. the windshield was dirty. 7. the head unit was not mounted flush and stuck out on one side but not the other. 8. the rear camera has an option for lines or no lines, they were left off because "that is what most people like" he should have picked up the phone and called me to find out what i wanted. 9. a hole was cut into the center console for an ipod cable and the edges were left sharp with no rubber gromet or anything to protect the cable from getting cut. overall i am very unhappy with the "professional" install. i would have done it myself had i known this was the quality of work i was going to get. i would not recommend this place and i certainly will not be going back anytime soon. read more

Came in because my radio stopped working. I checked the fuses in my dash but neglected to check the fuse box behind the battery, which ended up being the problem - didn't take them more than 5 minutes. Now I'm a ditzy girl in my young 20's and JR easily could have charged me the $85 for the inspection and could have upsold me on a new radio but no, JR said since it took so little time that they weren't going to charge me. They let me know the fuse was blown, replaced it for me at no cost. That's good people. Now this place was packed, they're lot is packed with cars and they're always busy. This is the place to come upgrade your system or get your system checked out if things have gone haywire. read more

My multidisk player was skipping when I played CDs so I called them up right away. Junior came out quickly and was able to help me disconnect my player from the system. He picked up my player and brought it back to the shop. He called me back promptly the next day with a diagnosis and estimate. He even explained exactly what was wrong with it and how they were going to fix it. The repair time was pretty quick, only delayed by having to wait for a part that needed to be shipped in. Junior brought back my player and made sure that everything was working well before he left. Overall, the repair was quick and simple. Junior did everything for me, saving me from a tangled mess of wires and trips to their store. I just called them, and before I knew it, my system was perfectly playing music again. read more

This is a rather funky old-fashioned shop, hard to find unless you know exactly where it is. Once there, the service could not be better. Sam took in our old Nakamichi stereo system, which had a loose connection and a speaker hum. He told me it would take 3-5 days to look at it and let me know if he could fix it and what it would need. Just two days later he called and gave me the good news that he could fix it but needed some parts that would take a couple more days. At the end of the same day he called again and said the system was fixed. I picked it up, and it works like new. This place is a real "find," and I cannot recommend it highly enough! read more

This guy JR is a thief and should not be running a business. I took my truck to have a stereo module installed. He quoted me $80 for the part and installation. I made an appointment for the unit to be installed and showed up on time. He had his employee install it in 40 minutes and charged me more than he had quoted. I ask why he was charging me $179.79 when I was quoted $80. He said the labor was $85 plus tax and $79.95 plus tax for the part which cost $35 wholesale. This is what happens when you don't get the detail straight and you trust that they keep their quote and word. I'll never return to this shop. read more
