I really appreciate that they take the time to come to vegfest and educate people about the work they do to help goats and offer classes to owners of goats on how to care for them. I hear the goatolympics is a great way to spend a day, but it continues to be on my list of things to do. The costume contest sounds amazing. I did finally make it out to the rescue for one of the Open Barn days. It seems they schedule a few each summer and you can drop in and get your picture with some goats and learn about the valuable work they do. We took a small child who seemed to enjoy himself and I personally enjoyed taking a variety of selfies with some of the cutest goats. I also really wanted to purchase a sweatshirt to support the organization and plan to do so in the future. There was a variety of volunteers on hand to answer our questions. Did you know that goats pee on their own head to attract a mate? It does make me not want to pet them so much. I loved seeing Elvis who has a condition that causes him to hop on his legs, but is still adorable and the perfect companion for pictures with small children. I do wish we would have known to bring some snacks to feed the goats, but some other visitors were nice enough to share their apple slices with us. Definitely check this out and support the goats!

We really wanted to know the proper way to care for goats before we just jumped in. So glad we did. Ellen presented a totally honest, in and outs, good and bads, hands on learning experience. We have decided we will get goats, but it will be a while. We need to get our property set up in such a way that both the goats and our property will prosper. We are going to save and put up the proper fencing, shelter, and get a stock of good grass hay in. In the meantime, I will be calling Ellen tomorrow to see about volunteering. I have never seen such a clean rescue facility. What a great way to learn. If you are thinking of getting goats, or even if you already have a few. This class is the way to go.

The front desk…read morestaff was really friendly and helpful -- they took their time and pointed me toward some sweet dogs that seemed like a good match. While I was there, I noticed a little pug and asked about her. They told me she wasn't available for adoption. I could see why -- her butt was prolapsed and there was liquid poop and blood all over her kennel. She was panting, whining, and frantically trying to get out. It was really upsetting to see. I spoke with the manager, who told me not to worry, that they had it under control and the dog was fine. I left feeling terrible. I came back a few days later and the poor pug was still in the same condition -- prolapse, bloody diarrhea, the whole thing. She still looked miserable. I'm really concerned that they don't have the animals' best interest at heart. A prolapsed rectum is painful, and there was clearly blood coming from her. I just don't understand how a person could look at that and think it's okay to leave her like that. This experience has me seriously questioning the level of care the animals are getting. I wanted to support the shelter, but I left feeling heartbroken and worried. I'm still looking to adopt a dog, but after this experience I don't feel confident adopting from here.

I tried again two days later, same experience happened. Finally a day later they told me the cat I chose was already gone and told me to just make an appointment whenever I see a new cat arrives. I did but then the lady said I can't make an appointment because the cat just came in, need 72 hours. She can't guarantee I would get the cat though. I don't want to waste more time, I went to a different shelter where people know how to run the business. I got the cat!

That said, our experience was deeply concerning. Our dog has since been diagnosed with bilateral hip dysplasia and elbow issues, which has been heartbreaking to navigate. I am not saying that is puget sounds direct reflection but it means something .. When we arrived at the home, we were invited inside, but the conditions were extremely dirty. The dog was not present when we arrived, and we waited approximately 40 minutes for the owner's daughter to bring him. He was handed to us and carried rather than allowed to walk. Once we left and placed him on the ground, it was clear he struggled significantly--at four months old, it appeared as though he had little to no experience walking. His hindquarters were completely shaved while the rest of his body was not, which raised immediate concern. It appeared he may have been sitting in his own waste and not regularly cleaned. He was also dyed yellow; our veterinarian later informed us that Lime Sulfur Dip is commonly used to treat conditions such as ringworm. His ears were blackened from what appeared to be long-term lack of cleaning. During the long drive home, we had to roll the windows down in the middle of winter due to the strong odor. The medical records we were provided were handwritten on paper and barely legible, with vaccinations written in by hand and explained as being difficult to read because the "ink was out." While the owner was kind, she appeared to have significant mobility challenges and was unable to walk down the stairs, which raised concerns about her ability to safely and adequately manage multiple dogs. I regret not writing this review sooner, but I felt it was important to share our experience. I truly hope that other dogs were not treated similarly and that they are all healthy and well cared for.

The resources and the good intentions are definitely there at Horseshu. That being said, I had a several expectations that were not met. I feel that a beginner's ride should include a quick 5-10 minute safety overview before riding, an explanation of what the ride will consist of (i.e. "We will ride around the arena for 5 minutes until you feel comfortable, then head out to the trail for one hour, then circle back to this arena."), some time getting to know the horses and being introduced to their names and personalities, time for photos in the woods, and a partially-narrated tour with information about local flora and fauna. None of these amenities expectations were met, much to my disappointment. Therefore, I feel that the ride was not a good value. Our guide was callous and resentful. He used curse words several times which for me was not a big deal, but if I had been visiting with my family (and/or children) it would have been distressing. It's possible I caught him on an off day. I had to ask for nearly everything including just getting the name of the horse I was riding.

The store is bright, clean and well organized, but I have to say for someone who washes her Service dog once every week or two paying $44+ for a self service dog bath seems insane to me. In all my years of washing service dogs I have never paid more than $20 and most of the time I'm offered a Service-Dog discount to somewhere between six and $12. Max $18. Also, I was looking for cotton balls and Q-tips, etc. to be able to dry out and clean out my dog's ears, which they had none of. So in summary, I brought my own shampoo, washed my own dog used one towel and it cost me $44 & a back ache. Part of the reason I go to the self-serve places is because I don't want to hurt my back, but I could've used a hose for free and been in the same place. I offered suggestions as I departed, but they seemed to fall on deaf ears, or the clerk seemed to have heard it all before and kind of brushed it off. Even if I lived in this town, I would never go back to this place because it's simply not a match for me.why should I work that hard and pay that much money just to need a chiropractor?
