Well.......... Wanted to give my local business a try, so brought my car for repair work. Brought the car in on Wednesday. I attempted to book online, however the website was not accepting the repair inquiry, something to do with their site's Domain error, etc. They car was not looked at until Friday, and then I was given a quote for $1, 199.00 for replacement of two rear spring coil replacements on the following Tuesday. Car was finally ready for pick up on Thursday........ The owner was nice enough, however they are obviously overwhelmed with work, with just 3 mechanics on staff (including owner). He stated that they were really not was taking new customers due to business being so busy with his past and current customers. Not sure why they publicly advertise their services then? Two days later my rear brake lines were leaking. (these brake lines were in close proximity to the rear coil springs) While I was not comfortable with going back to Preferred Auto and Tire, I brought the car to another mechanic for review. I will not go into the details about their analysis and the final outcome of what they found. Additionally, through conversation with my regular mechanic in Newton Massachusetts, the repair charges for the spring replacement might have been a bit inflated My mechanic specifically deals with foreign make automobiles and are privy to foreign care part costs. However, it was a learning experience for all, and a lesson well learned about the auto repair shop industry. Going forward I will stick with my repair shop in Newton. It will be worth the one hour trip for some peace of mind. Sometimes "shopping" locally is not the best option........ read more

When I come pick up my car, they only did some of the job and don't honest the flyer price. When I point out what the flyer said, the owner, Dean, just ask me to get away. Called and asked if they could help me fix my front right tire that had a nail on it and to look into my instrument control cluster LCD screen and to see if they could replace it with the replacement screen I already bought and brought in. They said they will take a look at it and let me know. Dropped the car off then I get a call saying they couldn't fix the screen and I said ok I'll go pick up the car. When I pick up the car I noticed that they didn't even check the instrument cluster at all just turned on the car saw the screen turn on but not show anything and said "yep this whole thing needs to go" so they said it'll cost 1k and they will have to replace the entire instrument cluster and reprogram it. I said no way it can be that much. I did only 10min of research and found the actual problem and just decided to fix it myself. All I had to do was fix the screen and voila the instrument cluster is fixed, took me only 15min and $80 to get new parts. They didn't even attempt to go in and check anything. They just turned on the car and looked at the screen from inside said "yep it's not displaying anything" and just left it like that. Such a waste of time to bring the car in and have them not even check it or diagnose correctly. read more

I took my car to Preferred Auto because I've had good service there previously. The dash lights were on and I also had a slow leak in my front tire . I called several times and was told they needed to replace my gas tank , I asked three times if they fixed the slow leak on my tire they assured me they had. When I went to pick up my car they again assured me the tire had been fixed The gas tank had been replaced but the tire had just been filled with air. I called again , brought the car in with the same problem , the slow leak in the tire I waited for the car and paid 35.00 to have the tire repaired . I parked the car and didn't need to use it for a few days , when I went to use the tire they had fixed was flat. I think I am done with Preferred Auto ! read more

I had worst Machenic experience at this place. The owner Deen & his employee Makela both are rude, liar and arrogant. I brought in my sprinter van which I use for work for transmission issue for which they charged me 2k and while my van was there I also had the problem with rear a/c for which diagnosis Deen charged me 200 and gave me estimate of 1k to fix the problem. As my van was already there I agreed to have it fixed and left it with Deen. They kept my work van for almost 2 months for repair and kept giving me bunch of baloney & finally after keeping it for such a long time Deen made his employee to call me to inform me that they don't have time to fix the problem and she advised me to come pick up the car at my earliest. Also she told me to clear the balance over the phone and told me the van is ready for pick up. When I got there to pick up the van they still had not put together the interior a/c housing and other parts. long Story short they made wait almost 2 hours at preferred after telling me that the van is ready to go. These people don't even have decency to apologize. Worst experience ever. read more

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Was here once for an oil change and the the staff was very rude. I just thought they were having a bad day so didn't give it much thought. Tried to get an inspection sticker here today but the woman at the front was extremely rude, dismissive and ignorant. I asked if they have time to do an inspection today and she very rudely replied "yea" and shouted something into the garage and walked away. The staff in the garage then closed the garage doors leaving me outside standing. Then she walked back my way and proceeded to walk past me without saying anything. All I want is a fair price from someplace I can trust who's not just trying to scam money off me (dealerships). I don't feel Preferred pushes you towards repairs simply to empty you wallet. We've been customers here for at least the past 8 years and have always felt we've been treated fairly. These guys have treated me really, really well. I took my car in with the complaint of a water leak. It was explained to me that water leaks can be hard to diagnose and that they would do their best to get it done. The first time I walked away and paid much less than I thought I would have to, but unfortunately the first time didn't quite fix the leak. Dean and his crew worked on the car tirelessly until it was fixed. Dean was great on explaining the work that they did and how it would help. Also, they covered the expenses for all the work done after the initial trip there. That is customer service you don't always get. Also, funny thing is that my friend's other car battery died early today and we needed to replace that as well and we needed it ASAP or we would get stranded on the highway later. Lisa gave us a great quote on it, but the battery that we wanted wasn't available, so we went with the other brand. Dean dropped by and installed the battery himself for us. Cam shaft & Crank shaft seals replaced along with oil line cleaning and some other work. Car is running great, more 'oomph' in the acceleration, check engine lights all off, no funny smells. I was told to come back after 100 miles of driving, so they can recheck their work and make sure everything is sealed up and complete. read more

My first experience was an oil change which the women who I can't remember her name explained a couple things that needed to be fixed but we're not something that needed to be done right away, but to watch out for a noise. 3 months later the noises started. Dean who I delt with on my second visit was very honest with me and not pushy. He gave me tires for a good deal and threw an alignment in for free and replacing my light bulb. Although the bill was hefty, I was very happy with the service and getting a couple things for free. I can't remember the last time a mechanic threw a couple things in to help a customer out. This is the best auto-service shop I have been to in recent years. I had an AC issue which even the dealership could not diagnose after a day of looking at it. The dealership quoted $4000+ to rebuild the whole AC system, and suggested that I trade in the car. I found Preferred Auto after a search for a used truck. They had one that seemed to be the right price and I went to look. They gave me the keys to scope it out but the truck wouldn't start. I discussed replacing the battery with them and they agreed to do that and promised to put four new tires on it at no extra cost. Also if I came back next day, I could use dealer plate to bring it to my own mechanic for a check out. The next morning I came back.. all promises were kept and the owner was very prompt about helping me. I took the truck to my guy..he like it, but noted a few small things that needed fixing. I took his evaluation back to Preferred and showed it to the owner. He agreed to go through the list and repair each item and to get the paperwork ready by that afternoon. I returned and found he was true to his word, all repairs were done. I gave him a check and took the truck and the paperwork. All good from end to end. I was surprised to see the reviews here about the owner and staff being rude or ripping people off. All I can say is that I had the opposite experience. I did not have any extensive work done, so I can't speak to expertise, but I thought they were unusually pleasant to deal with and did the right thing in every instance. read more

The owner came out and ran his fingernail across my wiper blades, this is done to strip them, so you have to pay get them fixed. After my BMW was worked on here, it had nothing but problems. AVOID. So I have been going here for a few years now. The first time I went in it was great. Work was done and price was fair. The second time for a o2 sensor that I had to have replaced twice in the first 4 months. I had a oil change and tune up done and i asked if they could look into a noise it was making. Was told they drove it but couldnt hear anything (it was loud and obvious,but whatever) was told when i bring it back they can look into it more. Oh and thwy had the car for two days " because he was understaffed so i had to have the shop helper do the work" dean's word. OK so not even a certified tech worked on my car. I know my fault from this point on. I removed a socket that was left in the engine bay after it drove me crazy for a week before I found it and the under belly plate shield was missing bolts that I fixed myself. So now it's a few months from that point and I go to do the brakes on the vehicle and 4lug nuts are finger tight (luckily Noone I love was hurt or someone would have had a visit) the 5th one is on so tight that I needed to heat it to remove. So now it's 8 months from this mess. I need my ball joints done asap and they could fit me in. So I am not thrilled but I bring it on, fingers crossed. I need to call 2 times thru out the day to find out what is going on with my truck. I asked if when they are under the truck can they look and see if they can check my tierod ends that should take 5 minutes tops for a trained tech. So I pick up my car. This is where I start to lose my mind but manage to keep my cool. I am what feels like a lecture from the owner Dean about do I know how he stays in business ? (a real good question) and points to a sign stating that I need to make a appointment for him to do work. Wtf. I am a return customer incase he forgot. The customer service sucks. Oh and he tells me a woman came in and gave him crap about a headlight or something. Never making eye contact and fiddling around with some paperwork. Oh and the guy that pulls out my truck stands and wiggles my keys in my face because I am dumb founded by the Rambling story about how he shuts off after someone gives him a hard time. So hopefully he has a good day or your car may not be fixed, I guess that's what he was getting at. They didn't look at my tierod because when I got home I simply climbed in the snow under my truck and wiggled them and they moved... that's all I needed them to do so I didn't need to climb in the snow and look myself. The nerve of me asking a "mechanic" to do mechanics type work, I guess. So I am moving on to a new shop and hopefully I can find one that I can trust. read more

Originally I was pleased with the work done here and Dean and his crew were always personable. But the more I went for simple repairs like a brake job, the more odd things wrong they started to find. I own a Toyota which typically has little go wrong and suddenly repairs were needed on things you never hear of having to be repaired. Ok, maybe just my bad luck. But I also recommended my daughter bring her car here and now she was in the same boat...more repairs, repairing things they thought they fixed and now having to come back to fix it again, and trying to charge my daughter for stuff they never really fixed right in the first place. When her car would not go into reverse, Dean asked her "how much she loved her car", because a rebuilt transmission would be over $3500, more than her car was worth. She had someone else work on her car and he fixed an earlier problem that Preferred couldn't figure out (basically gunk build up was choking off air flow and her car idled rough and hot) and also got her reverse working. All for under $400. I can't positively say they were deliberately ripping us off, but my gut says so. Needless to say, neither of us will be back to Preferred. read more

Absolute crooks. My father in law was brought there by AAA a year ago for a transmission. He paid $3k for the transmission. 11 months later the transmission went. He had to pay to get it towed and a rental car. Upon picking it up they said he owed $500 even though it was under warranty. If he didn't may it the warranty was over. 2 days later, 2!, it went again. Once again my 80-year-old father in law was stranded in the dark on the side of the highway. Once again he paid to have it towed back to precision and had to pay for a rental. 2 weeks later it was ready to go with his $500 bill waiting for him. No one would tell him why it failed. They gave him his keys and dismissed him. They not only did not honor their warranty, he had to pay for 2 tows and 4 weeks of rental cars because of their terrible work. They should be shut down and thrown in jail! They have already been reported to AAA, the better business bureau and next is the attorney general. read more
