No one goes to a mechanic without some feeling of dread, especially when it's your transmission that is in need of repair. It's one of the most expensive repairs and while you are struggling with the cost, you are always left hoping the mechanic isn't taking advantage of your lack of knowledge. Ted and his wife are absolutely fantastic and couldn't be more honest and down to earth if they tried. I had been having problems with my car for months. 3 warning lights would come on when I was driving. I took my car to my usual mechanic and they repaired what they thought was the problem, however, it did not repair the problem. I brought it back and they tried something else, but the warning lights persisted. I then thought a fresh set of eyes might solve the problem, so I brought my car to a garage near my office and they tried their fix, but it did not work. I was told that if their first fix did not work, the problem may need a costly repair. I was talking to a neighbor and relay my concerns about whether anyone could fix the problem and he suggested Ted's Tranmissions and General Repair I dropped my car off and within an hour they diagnosised the problem. They recommended I bring it to Sullivan Tire for an alignment. None of the other shops had suggested an alignment, so I figured at this point what did I have to lose. I got the alignment and I am now light free! I would recommend Ted's to anyone who is having getting answers for a problem with their car. They are wonder diagnosticians and I am sure they would be great at repairs, it they could have repaired my car. read more

I write this review with great trepidation. The last time I posted a review of an auto repair place, it became impossible to later get an appointment there. But the thing is that this place is the sort of place that you'd drive by a million times and never stop in. I know because I drove by it at least a few times a week and thought it looked sketchy. And that's why we shouldn't judge books by their covers. This place is far from slick and shiny. But what it provides is fantastic quality service. I was going on a trip and needed an oil change desperately. Like the car was experiencing these mini lurches which made me realize that maybe I shouldn't have believed those articles saying that you only have to change your oil every 100,000 miles. Well, Ted took care of things, and he squeezed me in at the last minute. That was the day before Thanksgiving, and the car has never driven more smoothly. Just fantastic. read more

My family and I have been taking our cars and trucks to Ted's for years, and I must say, I don't have a bad word to say, which if you know me, that is hard to believe. Ted, his wife, and his staff, are the most honest, professional, courteous people we have ever met. Anytime a family member or I have called with an issue, they had us drop off car that day and had answer that night or the next day. I can call and say I hear this noise and try to explain what it is, and how I explain it, is nowhere near what is actually wrong with the car, but they always seem to pinpoint the problem immediately, and it does not come with a $10K bill. With our schedules it's hard to get there during the day, and they make it possible to drop off our vehicles any time of day or night. The costs of repairs at Ted's does not break the bank, and the service is impeccable. Ted's transmissions is a top quality transmission shop run by the owner's. They are very nice honest people that will give you a fair price for excellent work. We needed a transmission replaced and additionally had a very tricky electrical problem. Ted took over after we took the car back from a Honda dealer that did not figure out the issue with their own Honda model. Ted got it repaired along with the new transmission much to our relief as this car went through two different shops before we sent it down to Ted's Transmissions. Ted's Transmissions is simply the most honest repair shop I've ever encountered. We had a problem with our 2003 Toyota Rav4. We dropped it off, and Ted's called us to tell us the bad news - the electronic control computer was blown. Instead of soaking us for thousand$, Ted's told us that the problem was common in our car, and suggested that we contact the dealer to see if we were still under the extended warrantee. Ted's transmissions was excellent. Would definitely recommend them. My transmission was messed up and was slipping. I called them when they opened and was able to get my car seen that day. They told me the issue and gave me a few options. They had already looked for a used transmission that could replace mine. He also had looked up the price of a new transmission. He was very honest with me about my options. Told me that the price of a new transmission is probably not worth it because of the value of my car. My car was 10yrs old and had about 100k on it. He ordered the part and got the used transmission put in. Car runs great now. I was extremely happy with the prices. I thought I might have to buy a new car because it might not be worth it to sink money into my car. His prices were very reasonable and I would highly recommend them. read more

Ted's is great. It doesn't really get any simpler than that, but here is my story. I live in QAG down the street, and so I wanted to take my car to somewhere within walking distance since my fiancee cannot drive without accessibility controls (so she couldn't pick me up if it was her car getting fixed). So we took it in since it had failed inspection and I saved up some money. They were very honest with me and told me an itemized list of what was wrong, how much it would cost to fix, and that it was worth more than the value of a comparable car. They did not charge me for the look at it, and even took the accessibility controls off for free. Very classy people. Next, we buy a used car, and I don't trust the dealer's mechanic (nothing against them, just I don't know them), so I take it in to Ted's. They look it over for me, make sure I didn't get a lemon, let me know what they checked, and again didn't charge me for the labor. I am very surprised this hospitality exists! Now they aren't pushovers, so don't expect a free lunch, but I was super happy that they were honest and prideful so I will definitely be taking all my warranteed, major repairs to them instead of the dealer even if it means the hassle of mailing in a rebate. Only criticisms are that it is sometimes hard to pull into their back area to drop a vehicle off, they need a buzzer to let them know when you arrive, and they need to call sooner when they are done (both times I had to call them to find out). But that is all small stuff compared to other chain maintenance guys that rip you off in the south shore. Woo! read more

Exceptional service and phenomenal work. These guys took incredible care of me and my car, and I echo all of the reviews on this page. My story is that I purchased a restored 67 Camaro and noticed some clutch issues upon taking delivery of the vehicle. At the referral of another trusted mechanic, I brought it to Ted and he and his guys dove in immediately. They found some issues with how the car had been rebuilt, and talked me through everything they found and what would be required to fix it. Ted even walked me through photos he took of the problem areas, and I walked - make that drove - away with a vastly improved car. And when I had a follow-up issue, Ted tackled it and now I've gone from white-knuckling the steering wheel every time I had to shift to now enjoying every second I spend in my new/old car. Ted's Transmission could not have come up more clutch in my time of need after my transmission went in my Grand Cherokee two days before Christmas. I had never needed major work done out here since moving to eastern mass years ago so, I was unaware of who I could trust without paying to much to have the car towed two hours east. I was recommended to Ted and I couldn't be happier (in fact, I should give them a 5 star rating for recommending Ted's!). Given the timing with the holidays and weekends, the turn around time was very fast. Ted's does free estimates, as well, which was awesome. He went through to make sure I did indeed need a new transmission and that there wasn't the possibility of a simpler fix and he even assured me before doing so that I did not need to have them do the work after the estimate if I chose not to. I moved forward with Ted's and he was able to get a replacement transmission with a year warranty in a very timely fashion and for a very fair price for parts and labor. Ted suggested I come back after a few weeks of driving so he could check to make sure nothing was leaking and everything checked out. Was told that I might have transmission problem by manager at Firestone. Brought it to Ted's and given a estimate of $200. Dropped car off week later and was told it needed less work than originally thought and the charge was only $100. In this day and age it's a pleasure to deal with honest people. I recently bought a used Pontiac Solstice for a summertime fun car. Because they are no longer made, they are difficult to find, and I settled on one with low miles in PA. Test drive went well, but after I'd purchased it and headed back to MA (of course) it started to make a pretty intense whining sound from the rear end. I went to a couple local repair shops that I know, but was eventually pointed to Ted's Transmissions. Ted is great -- super nice, very honest, and tries his best to keep the costs down. Unfortunately my repair required a full replacement of the rear differential, but the repair was done for a very reasonable price given the severity, and the car is running great. read more

The very best shop I have ever been to hands down. Ted was recommended to us by our neighbor who also happened to be a mechanic (retired) but he told us he was the best guy in town and he was right. Ted worked on both my Jeep and Honda and he did amazing work. He rebuilt the transmission in my Jeep and replaced the torque converter among other things in my Honda and we have been so happy with everything. He was willing to diagnose the problem for a really reasonable rate which anyone who has had transmission problems knows that is hard to find. He worked quickly to get us back on the road and kept us informed every step of the way and tried to give us the best options. We will miss him terribly when we move because it is just so hard to find someone you trust, but I really really mean it, Ted is awesome. Ted is one of the good guys! read more

This past Xmas eve I was on my way to Springfield to visit inlaws,after going through toll in Weston, heard God awful thud , pulled into a small construction site , knew transmission was blown. Had car towed to dealer & day after Xmas was hit with a 3900.00 estimate. The car is a 2006 escalade with 88000 miles and there was no way I was going to spend that much . Had seen great reviews of Teds on yelp and decided to give him a call. The Monday after Xmas the car was at Teds. I got an estimate for repairs which was considerably less than the dealers. On New Year's Day Ted called and said the car was ready. The service and price I received was outstanding.I don't want to have transmission problems,but if I did I would never consider anyone else than Ted.
